Hello all,
Every time I open my camera and toggle front face camera all it shows is a white screen. The options are all there and the rear facing camera works fine. I have googled the issue and cant seem to find anyone with the same issue just people who have black screens or errors saying "camera fail". Here is what I have tried so far:
Clear camera cache and data then reboot- Didnt Work
Rebooted into safe mode -Didnt Work
Wiped the Cache Partition -Didnt Work
Factory reset- Didnt Work
Bought a new camera module and installed it. I then repeated the steps above -Didnt Work
Any ideas why its not working? or suggestions on what to do next?
I do remeber the last app I installed before the camera when bad was snapchat. When I uninstalled it and reinstalled it it did nothing for the camera. I also did the factory reset and the camera didnt work before I added snapchat again.
*UPDATE- I took the phone apart and removed the front camera and reassembled it without it and the phone shows a black screen. When I added the camera back it went back to the white screen. Software issue?

I took the phone apart and removed the front camera and reassembled it without it and the phone shows a black screen. When I added the camera back it went back to the white screen. Seems like the phone is making some kind of communication with the camera.

For some reason my camera wont load. It goes to open the camera, does that funky thing with the backlight and then goes black. No picture, no controls.
It freezes and the only way to get it back is to soft reset it.
Ive tried a hard reset, same thing, tried updating the rom and its still the same.
Is there any hope for my poor little mda, just paid out for a brand new cover too
after some playing its loaded the controls. Still dont get any view from the camera.
Ive taken it apart and checked the ribbon cable is fitted properly and it is.
Somebody please help
camera has now fixed itself. For how long i dont know, very very strange!

all of a sudden my camera has vanished.
touchflo 3d shows the camera tab but the icon in the tab does not work.
the camera shortcut no longer exists in programs and is not an option to add to the start menu either.
it's gone.......
"Camera" is still in the windows file but nothing happens when i tap it.
anything that uses the camera just doesn't do anything when i tap the relevant "camera" button.
I am using the newest stock ROM from HTC and have just reflashed it to make sure that's OK.
It's just gone?!?!

Please try the following:
Download and install Advanced Configuration Tool
Open the program after installing to your PDA, and try changing one of the camera settings Encode photos in portrait mode to no and hopefully this will enable your camera again.
Perform a Soft Reset and then press the camera button a few times and hope it works.
Have you tried a Hard Reset?

i have hard reset and reflashed the ROM but still no camera....
very frustrating. it was there yesterday but today nothing.

i had that problem also
sometime it worked sometimes not, and even when it worked it didn't do well( no focus and errors)
after a while my screen stoped working (just like the camera)
they had to change the motherboard, atleast that was writen on the warranty
i think maybe u have the same problem
HTC UK Service seem to be great. Rang them about this yesterday and they are collecting the phone this morning.
Fingers crossed they can fix it!
Worth noting that the phone had also started turning itself off randomly and not able to turn back on until the battery had been removed for 30 minutes...?!

My New Galaxy S4 shows some problem on camera application. When I open camera it shows a black screen for a long time and after that show a massage " camera not responding. Some time camera work perfectly. After opening camera the the full system will hang. any one can help me..

try testing the megacam from the test code: *#0*#
btw, is this something new or since you got the device?

You can try 4 steps as below:
1. Soft-reset the phone. When the phone doesn’t respond, remove the battery for a minute. Let the phone rest without power then replace the battery and turn it back on.
2. Close apps running in the background. This problem could also be caused by RAM insufficiency, which occurs when there are a ton of apps running in the background. One thing you can do to make things a little easier is to boot the phone to Safe Mode:
Turn off your phone.
Switch it on again.
Right after pressing the power switch, continuously tap the Menu key (the button on the left of the Home key).
Once the phone is up, you will see “Safe Mode” on the lower left corner of the screen.
Now launch Camera once again and see if it causes blank screen.
If the problem was solved by booting up to Safe Mode, then try disabling recently-installed applications.
3.Factory reset. Try doing a factory reset to bring the phone back to its original settings. For those who rooted their phone and installed custom ROMs, you might want to reinstall the firmware.
4. If the problem persists after you do the solutions above, the camera is broken. You need to replace a new one. It is not a hard task. But there are many versions of S4. If you use a wrong camera, the screen will shows "camera failed" while using camera app.

Samsung S4 I9505, Android 5.0.1 - have same issue (black screen for a long time, sometimes works but freeze, and so on)
Soft reset, factory reset, cache wipe, downgrading to 4.4 wont helped

Both the front and back camera were working fine, but suddenly on random occasion, I opened my camera just to see that a message "Unfortunately, camera has stopped."
I thought it was a small issue and restarting the phone should make the camera work just fine. But it didn't! I was in my CM12.1 ROM, and after a couple of tweaking (nothing major), I simply went back to MIUI stock backup, which I had made ages ago hoping it might fix the problem, but even that didn't solve my problem.
But suddenly, I don't know but after hitting the back camera on my palm or whatever I did, the camera started working again...but not for long. It showed black screen again and camera app stopped working. From then on, I am getting completely random error of camera not working. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. Front Camera works fine through all these events.
I have installed CM13 after that. The problem persists, back camera occasionally working.
And yes, sometimes the screen flickers (blue flickering or black flickering). Its a rather odd problem. Does anyone have any idea whats going on? I think am the first one having this problem.
Any replies asap would be very much appreciated.

Sounds like my Asus Transformer Prime. It was working normally but then the camera started having issues. I smacked it a few times and it worked a few times but now it doesn't work anymore. You can Google it as this is a very common problem for this device.

The cable inside the phone maybe not connected... That's why when you smash it, it connected again but not for long....(don't smack it again - it can break the camera lens)

its probably fully broken now. doesnt work anymore after i disassembled the phone once at a local shop. bummer
Hi!, I have been having problems with my phone camera for a whyle (2 years aprox). Since I started using lolipop and marshmallow roms the camera hasn't been working fine. Actually it doesn't even work. I would post some images but this is my first post and XDA doesn't let me, so i will describe it the best I can. When I open the camera app, all I see is white, after a while some pink dots start to appear. This dots multiply all over the screen and thats all I get. If I zoom in this pink dots gets bigger, and look like pixels, like it's some sort of digital filter, and not what the camera is capturing. If I wait long enough, and point the camera into a light, the image gets clearer and it starts to show something. I am now using Dirty Unicorns 10.6. It's a D806 model, but inside the phone, it says it's a D805. I have always used D802 roms.
It looks like is a hardware issue, but everytime I go back to KK stock, this problem stops and the camera works just fine, then when I flash a custom rom after some weeks, this problem starts again. Also I have searched a lot and it seems like no one has this problem. If i try to film a video, the app crashes and it saw "it couldn't conect to the camera" but in the normal mode if I touch the screen, I can see the lens moving, like it's adjusting it's focus
Do you have any idea of what could it be?. I dont know if this is important but I have bricked my phone several times, to the point where one time even the download mode was broken, and when I pluged the phone into the computer, windows detected like 60 particions. I fixed this via pushing some files into the phone using ubuntu, and then doing the same thing in windows with a tool I found here in XDA.
