Google Messenger File Renaming - Nexus 6P Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Google should have better file renaming and management by now
Why does Google Messenger do this!
Ok if someone sends me a MMS I do not want the original file name changed!* This is annoying! Even though I know file name data can be renamed before sending, it does help if someone sends me something and whatever they originally saved it as shows up when I download it. Google desperately needs a file manager like (I hate to say it) Samsung, I do miss that from my Note 4 it was so easy to navigate all data and files on the device, but I digress.
Try it yourself if you have another device, take a picture of something and notice the file name, then send it via MMS to your other device and save the file. Notice the two file names are NOT the same can anybody tell me why this is WTF

'Word' not opening new document

While exploring all the software I have found that word will not open a new document and comes up with " a problem with the document was encountered and it cannot be opened" so assume that the template is corrupted. Any ideas on re-creating it, or where to find one?
I had this problem too. You can change the default template it opens by opening word and then selecting menu\options and then change the default template. The one I had been using was "meeting notes" and after I reslected it I havent had any problems since. The templates are stored in the My Docs/templates folder. If you are actually missing one I can email it to you.
That would be thae answer I am missing the entire My Docs/templates folder. I have PMed my e-mail address so the file would be appreciated.
Done, let me know if it didn't work.
Working pertfectly now. Cheers
Mine does this too, but only if I have blank document selected as the template?
Any ideas?
It's ok, its decided to work now

SMS Autocorrect

Anyone know how i can remove the words which my Universal has saved when i've texted someone? There are alot of incorrectly-spelled words which are just annoying when they come up as an autocorrect.
I was searching through the Phone from my PC, and found an autocorrect.txt file. When i copied it to my PC, it's not appearing where I copy it to, even with hidden file view enabled, but if i try to copy again it asks if i'm sure I want to overwrite....whats going on?!?!

Idea: Send non-MMS files in MMS (Mortscript? Legal?)

I have an idea that may be useful, but I thought I would ask everyones opinion.
Most network carriers charge a set rate for GPRS connections, to send emails and other files, and another set rate for MMS.
For instance, if I sent a file via MMS on my carrier, it would be about 50 cents. If I send it via an email it would be a few dollars. Obviously, the more I send via MMS, the better for my wallet. Unfortunately, you can only send a certain type of file via MMS (picture, audio, video)
It has long been possible to embed .rar files in .jpg files. All you need to do is RAR whatever file you want to hide, and then use the command line to embed it in the JPG file. The command is something like:
Copy /b OriginalImage.Jpg + Filetohide.txt.rar ImageWithHiddenFiles.jpg
So, Windows Mobile can run both Pocket RAR and PocketCMD. I have been testing it and as yet can't manage to get it to work quite correctly, but I believe it is possible (I can create the new image with no rar inside, and can also create a JPG with the rar hidden inside but no image loads).
So, first questions, does anyone thing this is legal considering you would still technically be sending a JPG? I wouldn't want to do any fraudulent or illegal as XDA Developers is a safe site. If it is illegal I won't speak anymore of it.
If people think it is ok, does anyone think it is possible to streamline the process using mortscript?
PS I checked Google and the XDA Search, couldn't find any other related topics, so sorry if this has been discussed before.
Interesting idea. It wouldn't be "illegal" (against the law), but it would be most likely against your carrier's terms of service. Of course, those only apply if they catch you .

Is there way to rip this app from Vibrant?

Thanks for this. But I think i got a problem, coz I got custom deoxed ROM - I cannot install it.
is there any way to get audio postcard to communicate via Gmail and not via text msg (MMS)?
i don't have msging on my phone, but do have unlimited data - don't feel like paying $10+ for 2-4 uses a month
but it is a decent option for those who haven't tried it - hit it, camera opens, take a pix, another screen opens for the user to record a voice msg, then it asks who you'd like to send it to
as email addresses are one of the options, i assumed it would email - no luck - found the 8 attempts in the notification window showing me "MMS service not available"

I haven't really messed around with it but if it gives you an option to just save the file then you can do that. THen open gmail and attach the file.
tks for the suggestion, just checked - no option to save
Did you look in the gallery, I use this app all the time with the kids and it always saves the pictures, you don't have to choose save, as soon as you snap it, it's saved. I haven't changed any settings on mine and they save to /dcim/camera (or /sdcard/dcim/camera if using root explorer) Hope that helps.
they're there, but no voice attachment
tks - found "talking photos" on android market, it's a little cruder ie not as polished or as fluid in use, but works
Up!
Anybody got a version that I could install on international i9000 ?
Or maybe somebody got an idea for an app with this kind of funcionality ?

I got the .apk and the .odex file. How do I apply them? I tried to install the .apk manually and it failed. Do I add both files to a zip and flash via Clockwork Recovery?
Use root explorer and copy both files to system/apps folder
try using this tool http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=10223438&postcount=1

[Q] How to turn Handcent texts into a word document?

I recently had this hilarious long text and i want to share screen it over facebook to share. I don't know how to turn a string of texts into a word document that is exportable or at least copy and paste able. How should I tackle this problem?
You could install a notepad app on your phone and hop between the Handcent and the notepad copy and pasting one text at a time. Save the notepad as a .txt file and push that to your PC. Open with an office suite and edit from there.
If you'd been using Google Voice, you could have logged in and simply copied the whole exchange.
Sorry, but the slow bit by bit method is all I can think of right now.

Thanks for the input. I've thought of that too, brute forcing it, but I rather I export this big long thing as a whole rather than ctrl c ctrl v-ing every single entry...
Not sure how long it is, but normally I just forward it, and instead of sending it out, I cut all the txt and paste it into a new msg. Then back out of that msg, handcent will save as draft. Repeat the steps of forwarding and cutting the txt and continue pasting it into the draft msg. Once u got all msges, u can cut that and paste it into other apps or email it to yourself if you want it on the computer...ect.
Will that work for what you want?

Let's just say I have over 100 entries in the thread I want to put up onto facebook...
I don't know how I can cut ALL the entries at once,...
Another idea:
There are several SMS backup apps in the market that promise to back up to Gmail. Maybe you could backup the thread via one of those apps and copy the whole thread from your Gmail account.

hmm. for something that large, idk. Someone would have to create a specific app or something.
Closest i got was using SMS Backup, which turned my texts into an XML file.
Opening that in excel 2007 allowed me to filter by a certain number, and than copy and paste the msgs to a word doc.
Thats the only quick option I could find....sry
