S5 and Samsung VR - Galaxy S 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey, it's pretty self explanatory. I heard the VR was as simple as a apk installation. Is it? If so, what ROM supports it, and what apks are required?
Thanks.[emoji2]

Anyone? Anything? I know way Samsung said, buy that doesn't mean it isn't possible. I see some dev stuff...

[Q] IR Blaster on AOSP ROM

I was wondering if anyone has had any luck getting the IR blaster to work on a AOSP ROM'S. Has anyone tested Peel Smart Remote on one, or possibly managed to get a WatchOn apk and get that working on AOSP? Having the IR blaster is the only thing keeping me on TouchWiz at the moment since my TV remote's power button is fried, but I would really like to get TouchWiz off.
Download smart remote from the play store. It works very well.

The $10 one that specifies gs4? And that is confirmed to work on AOSP ROMS?
I don't think it will work. Asop roms delete pretty much ALL added features to the phone. Someone would have to get the apps from TW and see if they work on it. I'm not sure which system app you would need. If I knew which system apps I needed I would test it for you. I have the smart remote for g s4 app

Im gonna try some roms out today. I'll let u know what I find with the ir stuff. I had the s3 and the ir is the main reason I upgraded. That and the battery.

@kyhassen: Yeah, that's just about what I thought. I'm sure if someone dug through TW enough that whatever code is needed for it to work would be found. Could even be something as simple as a call method to find the hardware that gets passed along to whatever app the user is using, which could then be ported into an AOSP to keep that working..
@Mahapederdon: Thanks, please do keep me in the loop if you find something

Yeah keep us up to date on what you find!
The IR code is proprietary. Meaning it is unlikely the needed code will be released any time soon. Its possible someone may reverse engineer the drivers one day, or the code will "open" so all hope is not lost.
Try to back up the apk from stock through Titanium backup and restore it on your favorite aosp rom and see if it works.

Has anyone tried that?
I just did on slim bean it installs and opens but it won't work as a remote I think aosp doesn't have the s4's or drivers.

Ok, so then it looks like someone needs to either reverse engineer the drivers, or talk Samsung into releasing them.

And I just asked Samsung about that, and they basically said no. Anyone know anyone who may be able to reverse engineer it?

So I'm guessing that smart remote won't work.
GS4 on Slim bean and CarbonROM
Hardware support is missing at the kernel level, .apks won't fix it.
It seems to be fully functional on the Google Experience S4 and also CyanogenMod nightlies according to users and reviewers.

Yea, I can confirm it works on the Google Experience S4 rom running on my SPH-L720, tried it out just recently using the WatchON app.
Same here then I tried it on CM 10.1 latest nightly and it didn't work on that but it worked on the Google edition rom.

Smart Remote is no longer on the Google Play Store. Any idea why?

Google wallet

I've been really digging for a modded google wallet for the note 3 that allows use of nfc. The S4 guys have a modded flashable wallet and I thought why the hell I'll try and needless to say that broke NFC and made the phone pretty unusable.
Has there been any promising or working work around I may have missed from other device forums

From what I read it can't be done because of the way Verizon has the nfc/secure element on the sim. My reason might be off but I know I read it cant be done. Isis works as an acceptable replacement

Yes it does.

Does anyone have the corrwct apk? It's not compatible in Google play anymore with the N3. One Verizon rep told me the other day it was.

Possible solution
Unless the device is running 4.4 or CM 9/ 10.1 , the Note won't have the required NFC libraries to allow for HCE. Rooting doesn't rellay make any difference as the libraries were needed at the time of compiling the image file.
Hope this helps

[Q] KNOX app installation?

Of the 4 carriers in the USA to have the S5, only T-mobile says that the device is KNOX compatible. The S5 doesn't have the KNOX app installed nor does the Samsung app store have it. How do I get it? Just wait for a T-mobile update? How did it work with the Note 3 with T-mobile?
Why do you use it?
Sent from my SM-G900P using Tapatalk
From what I read it makes the device more secure. I was able to find it using Root Explorer and doing a search for KNOX. It showed all the files and even one that allows you to install it so it shows up as an app.

I'd like to set up a few containers for different activities, at least one for banking. I'd probably use the other one for secure social communication.

Spritz? Anybody see it?

Spritz
Anybody have this, or know how to enable it on their s5? I don't see it on the At&t version i have, but I want this on the phone and the watch!
It's in the Samsung store if anyone cares. It also works well with the Gear2.

STOCK Music App issue

I dont know if this has already been posted (im sure it has and mods can delete this if need be) but, the stock music app is a battery and RAM drainer and leaker, so much to the point where it cripples the phone into an unusable state. In order to fix this problem, i would recommend switching to Play Music, as it still has SD Card rights and doesnt generate this horrible problem. (This is what i am now doing) just wanted to inform anyone who didnt know/had the same problem i did!

Yeah, we were looking into the same issue here:

Good to know that's it's definitely an issue in the application since we have Exynos version and you have Snapdragon.

Yeah, i was using the app for the first time yesterday during class, and it kept cutting out for no reason. I figured out the solution on the ride home. Play music seems to be working fine though! I dont know if Samsung can update it via samsung apps or play store or if it needs to be via OTA update, but they need to fix it.
