I have an s5 on AT&T that refuses to send text messages, but receives them with no problem. I've tried everything I can think of (short of a factory reset) to fix it. The messaging center number is correct, changing APN does nothing, I've tried multiple SIM cards with no result, clearing the Messaging app cache and using a different texting app produce no change. It is fully stock on Android 5.1, not rooted and has a locked bootloader. Considering just ditching it and replacing it. Any help would be appreciated.

Okay I've tried everything to rid my phone of the voicemail icon issue. Currently using Golden Eye MJ7 version for my AT&T S4
I've Tried:
-Calling the voicemail and checking my messages (no messages)
First of all my voicemail sounds different and can't get back to stock AT&T Voicemail-Deleting Phone Data from the Apps Settings page in App Manager
-Calling from another phone and leaving a message
-Deleting that message I just created
-Restarting my phone
-Wiping Cache and Dalvik
-Calling ##004# to restore everything to its original settings (didn't work)
I had that happen long time ago. Can't remember if calling carrier fixed it or deleting apk and re-installing?
Did you Google it yet, seems I found some stuff that way too--
That happened to me once, I ended up calling AT&T from a different phone and they reset something and it went away
Call ATT and have them reset your voicemailbox. I tried everything in the xda forums and my icon would not go away until I finally called and had it reset and in 2 seconds the icon was gone.
Call ur number and leave a voicemail. Then check it. Worked for me the few times it happened.

My mom has a s5 that was running the original android version. It began not sending, sending witg delay, not receiving, and receiving delayed sms messages. Also with internet connection issues. I removed apps, cleared cache and app data, cleared cache partiton. Swapped sim cards, and ultimately factory reset to no avail. She ended up taking it to Verizon that told her it's because she needed to install the latest software updates. They installed them, same issues. They want to give her a refurb, I am recommending it goes back to samsung under warranty. Any diagnosis or troubleshooting thoughts?

Ok, so I've had this issue more than once, but MMS had completely stopped working, sending and receiving. The last two times it stopped, I figured it was because I cleared all data for the Samsung messaging app, and the only fix was to reset. And this was after owning the phone for only a few weeks. This time it's been fine for awhile, but suddenly stopped again, and I didn't delete the Samsung messaging app data. Any ideas on this issue so I don't have to reset again, I've done so much since the last time I reset, it would really suck to have to setup everything again.

P.S. it's the Verizon one, just in case you didn't already figure it out.
Fwiw, even though the Verizon messaging+ app doesn't work, textra does. I just confirmed that now.
Also, using the built in messaging app, I cannot even add a picture to a message, it just says cannot attach image.
To start, I'm on Android 7.0 using the September security patch and am rooted.
Never had an issue with this phone before. Ever since yesterday morning I have not been able to receive anyone's text messages. I'm not sure about MMS but I haven't gotten any of those either. The weird thing is that I can SEND texts just fine....and I can also send text messages to myself and they come through.
After digging and researching I accessed that hidden settings menu by typing *#*#4636#*#* into my dialer and looking at the SMSC number which should be for Tmobile, my provider, +12063130004. However, it's blank and I'm unable to change it. Hitting "update" gives me an "update error" in the field and if I hit refresh I get "+12063130004",145 with the quotes and the 145. If I hit update from there and reboot it's still blank. If I put in +12063130004 and reboot it's still blank.
I have data, I can make and receive calls and surf the web. So far I've tried switching sms apps to no avail. I'm currently using google messenger. I've tried removing the sim and placing it back in. I went in to TWRP wiped cache, dalvich cache and data and it did nothing. Finally I reverted to a nandroid I made about a month ago when sms was working fine and it's still not working.
I'm out of ideas fellas. At my wit's end here!
Oh, I should also let you know that I think this all started when my girlfriend sent me a text message that i received yesterday morning. It was the last text I was able to get......she's on a cruise so she sent it somewhere near mexico....I think it made my phone have a massive brain fart and I'm not sure how to fix this bug. Please help!!
No one? I've found nothing on the web..
This may sound obvious, but have you tried using a factory image to return to stock?
Sounds like you've done everything but that.
I suppose you could also try deleting your APN and manually entering a correct one for your carrier. That's helped me in the past on other devices when I've had weird data/service issues.
Funny you asked. I did a full wipe and returned to stock on the latest November build. Still a no go. People still get my texts and I can still use data/make and receive calls fine. I'll try the APN suggestion now.
As far as APN's go, I tried to reset them to default. I even tried deleting all of them except for the one I was using which in the past for other devices helped with certain issues. I then created a custom APN setting that I found on the 6p forum that helped other users with SMS/MMS issues....no help for me.
I can still send SMS,mms, make and receive phone calls. No idea what to do!!!
I have a similar but different issue. I can receive messages just fine. But sometimes when i send messages id say about 40% of the time my message gets stuck at the "sending" and it takes sometimes up to 10min for it to send. I can speed the process up if i go to the secret menu and toggle the radio off and on.
Im on ATT BTW. I thought it had something to do with ATT shutting down the 2G network and the phone getting confused as to which network to send messages on but im no expert its just a theroy.
PS. I had this problem pop out of nowhere. Had it start randomly on PN6 (last build) so i upgraded to PN7 same thing on 2 different versions of the ROM. And now im on SuperAx 7.1 and still have the issue.
Ive always had problems with Nexus's and messages. When i had the Nexus 5 i actually had to warranty it out because MMS all of a sudden would not work at all.
I received one text today from someone. That's it. Not getting all the missed sms messages and not getting any additional sms messages.
Hi,
I did a factory reset on my e4 which I have owned for about a year.
Got me a new phone and was setting the E4 up for my wife, so did a reset & a couple of things have stopped working like they did before reset.
With data on when trying to send photos by text it just keeps showing as sending & they never go through. I even tried sending a very small image file & it would just be stuck on sending.
This was never a problem before I did the reset.
It is running Android 7.11 and being the wife's phone this is critical for me to fix it
This is a puzzler to me.
Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Which e4 do you have? Which carrier? Did you have it rooted? It may need to be provisioned. For CDMA it would be a prl or profile update. Did you disable any stock system apps?
You could try wiping it again and paying special attention to carrier specific parts of setup. Beyond that, it sounds like a carrier/provisioning issue. The stock messaging app is a modified version of Android messages. You may need to go into settings of it and see what is selected (like advanced, rcs messaging).

It's an unlocked phone. One of Amazon phones. Never been rooted. It's not CDMA.
No stock apps are disabled.
What is provisioned?
To the best of my knowledge everything is set just like it was before resetting it.
Everything worked fine before that.
Thank you for the reply

Thanks for the reply.
When I bought the phone new from Amazon, it was one of the Prime phones it was unlocked to use with any provider.
I just put in Sim card from my carrier and everything thing worked no changes needed to be made.
I figured it was going to be the same after doing a factory reset.
I may just do a reset again and see what happens.

Problem solved.
I did another factory reset, but this time I removed the sim card & the ext sd card.
After doing the reset installed the sim card & everything is working like it used to.
It appears doing a reset with sim card in might be a big no-no
