My mom has a s5 that was running the original android version. It began not sending, sending witg delay, not receiving, and receiving delayed sms messages. Also with internet connection issues. I removed apps, cleared cache and app data, cleared cache partiton. Swapped sim cards, and ultimately factory reset to no avail. She ended up taking it to Verizon that told her it's because she needed to install the latest software updates. They installed them, same issues. They want to give her a refurb, I am recommending it goes back to samsung under warranty. Any diagnosis or troubleshooting thoughts?

I have an s5 on AT&T that refuses to send text messages, but receives them with no problem. I've tried everything I can think of (short of a factory reset) to fix it. The messaging center number is correct, changing APN does nothing, I've tried multiple SIM cards with no result, clearing the Messaging app cache and using a different texting app produce no change. It is fully stock on Android 5.1, not rooted and has a locked bootloader. Considering just ditching it and replacing it. Any help would be appreciated.
Hey everyone. I have the T-Mobile V20 rooted using jcadduono's method. Recently I have been getting duplicate text messages. This has happened with text messages from a few different people but the latest was when I installed the PayPal app and they sent me my security code via SMS. Now I am getting the same text sent to me at random times, 18 times in the last day. Also, when other people send me texts, sometimes I get them and sometimes I get the text from PayPal. I'm pretty sure it's not on PayPal's end since this has happened with other numbers as well.
I have tried clearing the data from the stock messaging app, clearing cache and dalvik in twrp, disabling the stock messaging app and using Signal instead, and a full restore.
Has anyone else had a similar issue? I searched around and could not find a solution.
Edit: Nevermind. It was one of my apps, Root Call Blocker.
Hey I have been having a similar problem. A few days ago I was texting with somebody and they just stopped responding. However we WERE sorta fighting about some stuff so I didn't think anything of it. But a couple days later I started getting ALL of the messages that she'd sent and I'm getting all of them TEN FOLD. like 20 copies of the same message. Then I started getting the same **** from other people too. So I figured it had to be something with my dirty santified v20. So I came to XDA and low and behold here is this guy talking about RCB. Well yesterday I had remembered that I have a license for Root Call Blocker Pro by Fahrbot PRI. This HAS GOT to be what the problem is. So I'm gonna uninstall RCB and try to contact Fahrbot and direct them to this thread. Thanks dude for coming here and reporting your problem. Possibly we will find some more people showing up here and eventually get Fahrbot to fix his ****. Now to uninstall and see if it works.
Edit: This did end up being the problem and solution. After removing Root Call Blocker Pro the phone was still getting weird texts for a while but they weren't multiple copies of the same messages. I booted into recovery and wiped the delvik and cache for good measure. When I booted back up the phone was still getting old messages, however they slowed to an eventual stop. I contacted Fahrbot and informed them that I suspect their program has some bugs on android 7.0 on the v20. When your phone receives an SMS under normal conditions, it will send back to the service provider an ACK response. If the phone service provider sends out a handful of SMS messages to the phone but the phone sends nothing back acknowledging that each message was received, then the provider automatically assumes 'did not receive ACK from phone. phone must be off. resending until acknowledged.
Ditto
I registered just to reply to this thread! I, too, had RCB installed on 7.1 nougat, but kept getting repeated texts or delayed texts. Like, DAYS delayed. Sprint could not figure out what was wrong; but luckily I found this thread, uninstalled, and now my texts are working again.
And RCB was my favorite call blocker :crying:
I have a rooted Nexus 6p. A few weeks ago I flashed the factory images of Android 8.0 Oreo to my 6p. Flashed TWRP and rooted with magisk. For about a week or so everything was fine...then approximately 72 hours ago I could no longer receive text messages from anyone. I can send texts just fine I just can't receive them. I have full bars of service with 4g LTE. I can surf the web, use Facebook and any other app requiring data. I can make and receive phone calls.
I've tried everything. Removed the sim, rebooted, checked APN settings, cleared cache, wipe data, tried various different SMS apps. I even wiped the device and reflashed Oreo via fastboot again. Nothing.
I called TMobile they have no idea what's wrong. I called Google and they were of no assistance.
I'm going to try and flash the last nougat factory images later from Google and see if that helps. Before I do that I wanted to see if anyone here could offer some suggestions I haven't already thought of.
Thanks!

I would go get a new SIM provisioned for your phone at TMo for free. Are you pre-paid or post-paid?
I was planning on it. However around 0930 this morning all of my missing text messages came flooding in. SMS seems to be working fine now. Would still love to know the trigger of this issue.

Cool. Likely a carrier/plan issue.
You didn't happen to have an Ad Blocker installed? I had the same issue on a different phone, and that was the culprit.

Yes. I use adaway and adguard. Never had an issue with them not allowing me to receive texts. I'm also running both right now and sms is working fine.
Did you restore messages with titanium backup? If so make sure you have switched messaging back to the default app. Had the same happen to me.

Well adaway definitely was blocking my SMS. As soon as I removed it and rebooted phone the msgs came flooding in.

Adaway is a host file fetcher. It has nothing to do with SMS and does not interfere with it. Try it again. It's the best one out there.
I need some help pinpointing an issue with my unlocked S8 (SM-G950U1) running Oreo (8.0) on Verizon Wireless.
While browsing the web and checking Facebook this afternoon I noticed my S8 dropping dropping from 4G to 3G, then eventually returning to 4G. I restarted my phone a few times, then after one of the restarts, I received two text messages at once. I thought it was a fluke, but I decided to contact Verizon to make sure they weren't having any network problems in my area. I forgot my Verizon password, so I had to request a verification code. I requested two codes, but I didn't receive them. I restarted my phone, then I received both codes. I eventually chatted with a Verizon Rep who claimed they were having no network issues in my area. I reset the network settings, cleared the system cache in recovery, and successfully received a few texts in safe mode. However, this happened a third time and the pattern was the same: Drop from 4G to 3G, return to 4G, restart the phone, receive text messages that were sent sometime prior to the restart. I rushed down to my local Verizon store and got a new SIM card just so I could rule that out as a possible problem. I'm trying to do everything I can before I do a factory rest. I really don't want to hassle with that.
I have been having a problem receiving notifications while my screen is off. This started happening after I received the following software update in early September. This issue has been documented a few other places as well, but I can't find anyone who is experiencing both issues, so I'm left to think the two issues are separate and not related.

Any thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated. (And if you suggest a hardware problem with the radio, yes, I've thought about that, but I'm in denial about that possibility.)
I have a similar issue. I too have an unlocked S8 but on AT&T. I have a new sim and have factory reset my device recently and still have issues with notifications, but SMS send to be ok, it's mostly with Gmail, messaging apps (not SMS) and other notifications. I am in the latest firmware (CRH3). I it's a software issue personally.

Yeah, I'm certain the notification issue is related to the software. I just don't know if I can attribute the text message issue to software or hardware.
My wife has the Tmo Variant of the S10+.
Anytime she gets involved into group messages her phone locks up.
Basically makes it act as if she has 0 connection of the phone, messages wont send, messages cant be received.
She can not go in any app that requires data, it says there is no connection.
She can make calls, that is all.
We have to delete "ALL" messages then it is fine, until she gets a response to the group and its all back up.
I have cleared the phone cache, and messages cache.
I actually clean the phone cache once a day to help. It doenst prevent , but helps it from happening too frequently.
This has just started randomly about 3 weeks ago, not right after the last security update, but maybe a week after that.
We have also factory reset the device.
.
I may add that this only seems to be a bigger issue when the groups are IOS users.
I have done some google searching but couldnt find anything acknowledging a known issue.
Any tips, secrets, or advice will be much appreciated.
My wife and I have the same device, so the next steps is to wipe them both, swap them and see if the same error persists on the swapped devices.
