How to brick a S6 Edge + Without root ? - Galaxy S6 Edge+ Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello,
I know my question is a little bit awkward but I want to brick my S6 Edge Plus. I'm not root, so I can't erase some sys files.
Do you know a way to brick it ?
Thanks in advance,

It's a matter of warranty, I need to brick it in order to make the warranty work (my phone is frozen, need an exchange). I have several bugs (sometimes the mic is working, sometimes it's the BT), but I think they will refuse an swap if after a reboot the phone is working fine.
So I need to brick it (so when they will reboot the phone it will hang), and then the warranty will applied.

Download another firmware in sammobile and install with odin. Example if your model is 928f you can put 928g of c and that brick your phone.

But flashing a different firmware doesn't trip the knoxx counter or the warranty one ?

Sammobile firmwares are stocks and don't trip knox. But you can wait for someone nows more.

I dont think this is correct, i remember reading a thread about flashing stock firmware over a phone with carrier specific firmware (to get rid of all the bloatware) and that knox would still be tripped

try to reflash your firmware and remove usb cable halfway in the process of flashing. =) complete brick, but they will just reflash it on service center, they will not replace it unless its a hardware issue

Thanks a ton for the reply so did the svc center void the warranty and does this mean we will have to wait till chainfire or someone can find a way to make triangle away work on the I9500.....I kinda feel sad for the exynos variant isnt there any way to root the device without losing the warranty..

Your counter will still be raised and the status will still show modified, if they see that they may void warranty as it is not in original condition.
I am rooted. My counter is at 0. Link to stock rom with root is below

Flashing this via odin doesnt trip the counter.

[Q] Binary Counter

Hello guys, i have recently bought a Samsung Galaxy S4 I9500. I switched from ios to android and i am loving it so far. I have a couple of questions: I want to root my device. Does this affect the binary counter? Also if i have a problem with my device and i have warranty, will i be able to format my device (un-root)? Also will this affect binary counter? I don't want to loose my 2 years warranty. Thanks!
PS: While i was on IOS i received a lot of support on reddit but when i asked for android stuff, i never got any response. Is this the right forum for a beginner like me?

1)Yes rooting will affect your binary counter.
2) Yes you can unroot your device to gain back warranty.
BUT the binary counter is HIDDEN!
So you can just reset the STATUS(which is official for stock n custom for unofficial)
There is an app called Triangle away which resets this counter but it only available for i9505 n not for i9500.
you have one more problem that is Knox In some service centers do not pay attention to it, but in others lose two year warranty on the phone

Yes absolutely a problem. I forgot to mention it. If any unofficial stuff is flashed then this knox pox is triggered.

First have a look on the stickies of Knox discussion. You wont get official software updates if you trip knox(as recovery is custom aftr rooting) n there are knox friendly rooting methods. But I dont really care about knox and after rooting it is upto you that you aint flashing anything wrong or not following the instructions. All the best.

I personally am currently with stock firmware
Twice my phone was in service for Knox experiments that I did
Had twice to change the motherboard, but it was replaced under warranty because I have a version that my phone and just motherboard died and there is nothing to see in the Samsung service centre
Knox is a major obstacle
The choice is yours

As I said previously that you should know what are you flashing and what will happen after it. If you flash anything by not following the correct procedure then you ll pay for it. I rooted my s4 3 months ago and immediately took a backup of my OS through a custom recovery. This backup helps me if something gets wrong. And I really dont care about about Knox because what you lose is only OTA updates and nothing else. So after rooting even you can backup your OS n stay on stock as long you want. Choice is yours. All the best.

As stock recovery of the phone changes there will be no OTA updates for that device it ll say THE DEVICE SETTINGS HAS BEEN CHANGED or something similar to it. And stock recovery is replaced by philz touch or cwm while rooting. And side by side this knox pox is also triggered.

If your warranty will be void depends strongly on in which country you live. There is no yes or no answer.
Flash anything but an official Samsung package through Odin and it will trigger the Knox flag and change the device status to Custom. OTA updates will stop.
Re flashing an official Samsung package afterwards will change the device back to Official and OTA updates will resume. But the Knox flag will still show as triggered. Theres no way to reset it.

[Q] What is the safest method to root my Note 3 ?

I had a problem with my knox tripped note 3. The camera, video, sound haven't been working despite flashing different ROMs.
After the latest samsung official update the device worked properly. Thank God.
Now I want to root the device but I fear to choose a method that would mess my device again.
So what is the safest method to do it ?
Current Build Number XXUGNH1
Thanks
Are you sure, it's not the opposite: flashing different ROMS made some of the functions not work properly? almost every custom ROM I looked at had some functions not working properly, even factory ROM may have a bug or two.
Anyhow, as far as I know tripped Knox doesn't affect anything except Knox software itself and maybe phone encryption. I'm not aware of many issues with rooting itself either, again maybe with few security related exceptions like OTA updates, unless the owner used rooting privileges to change things around wrong way. I used Towelroot following Effortless instructions, mostly because it doesn't trip Knox, but I guess that doesn't matter anymore in your case, but the method itself is simple and worked well for me.

The problem happened first on Samsung ROM .. A few days before that, I tried flashing a south Korean firmware which was for the 16 GB device. mine was 32. But of course it failed because I didn't enable partitioning option.
I thought maybe this could be the reason.
I tried using towelroot now but it says my device isn't supported.
I think because of the firmware version. So what other method do you recommend for me?

He is suggesting you reflash original firmware from Samsung, but make sure you get the right one for your particular model, also I would suggest full factory reset, before and after the flash. Once everything is working good then maybe try to root again.
As far as towelroot goes, did you follow proper procedure for newer firmware? towelroot won't work with anything newer than middle of June, so you need to flash the firmware, then you need to flash older kernel (released before June 2014), use towelroot to get root, reflash new kernel back.
i am also using note 3 but with tripped knox because i donot have warranty anymore. so, i don't care.

S6 G920F - 5.0.2 Engineering Bootloader (Root on 5.1.1 without tripping KNOX)

Hi
/* I DO NOT TAKE ANY RESPONSIBILITY FOR WHAT HAPPENS TO YOUR DEVICE *\
/* PROCEED AT YOUR OWN RISK *\
This method will allow you to root your S6 on 5.1.1 with UniKernel (NO KNOX TRIPPED).
Engineering Bootloader for SM-G920F 5.0.2: Link removed
UniKernel: http://forum.xda-developers.com/gal...d-development/kernel-stockmod-kernel-t3100395
1. Install Samsung USB Drivers if necessary.
2. Put phone into download mode. Power phone off then press and hold Volume down, home and power keys at same time until you see warning screen then let go and hit volume up one time.
3. Plug phone in and wait for drivers to install if necessary.
4. Open odin you should now see phone’s modem port highlighted in blue.
5. Click on BL tab and select correct sboot.bin that you downloaded above. Then click start.
6. When phone comes back on power off again and put into download mode.
7. Open odin again and this time select AP tab and select UniKernel file and click start.
8. That is it!!! When it comes back on phone will be rooted. To verify that knox has not been tripped go back to download mode and it should still say KNOX WARRANTY: 0 (0X0000)
NOTE: ITS POSSIBLE THAT THE FINGERPRINT SCANNER MAY NOT WORK, SO IF YOU CAN LIVE WITHOUT IT USE THIS METHOD OTHERWISE DONT.
Very interesting, definitely going to a keep an eye on this one. I'm not brave enough to be the first to try though!

You will definitely not be the firts to try this. It is an old guide, the first one was on the g925f model thread. I rooted my galaxy s6 g920f this way, and i didnt trip knox. I do not use fingerprint, so i dont care it is not working. Definitely try this.

I'm new to Galaxy's, coming from Nexus. Is is possible with this bootloader to install a custom rom without tripping Knox? Or is it just for rooting the stock rom?
If i'm not mistaken, flashing custom recoveries or ROM's will trip knox no matter what. You can look into Flashfire by Chainfire for a better idea of a alternative .

You are mistaken, flashing any custom rom will not trip knox as long as you are on engeneering bootloader. I change roms a lot, my knox is still at 0x0, just keep the bootloader.

Root s7edge, exynos G935F

Hello to all.
I would like your kind advices and opinion on the following matter.
I have a stock s7edge, exynos variant (G935F).
I still have one year of warranty.
After the latest security updates and the fact that I can no longer install S8 apps, it got me thinking about rooting the phone.
I am fairly experienced in rooting phones and installing roms. As a matter of fact, all my previous phones are now rooted and updated to 7.1.2
My question is the following:
I do not want to install a new rom. I am happy with the stock one (at least for now ). I just want to root the phone in order to be able to have access to the system files and replace the apks etc.
Is it worth it?
If yes, how can I root the phone? (any guide with recovery files included etc?)
If I root the phone, what things will I miss and not be able to do? (Do I just lose KNOX and Samsung Pay?)
If I want to go back to unrooted state, is it easy, and how can I do it? (any guide with stock recovery included etc?)
Your kind assistance and opinions will be very much appreciated.
Thank you.

Mate wrong thread.
Yes, sorry about that. A big thanx to the devs for moving it to the right thread.
So, I made a research and I believe that the best way to root my s7 edge is using Odin, then flashing the latest twrp recovery (3.1.1-0), and then by entering the recovery, to flash the latest SuperSU zip (v.2.82).
Do you agree? Or is it better to use Odin and then flash the CF-AutoRoot??
Also, if I want to un-root the phone, do I just have to flash via odin all the stock firmware files (CP, CSC, BL etc?). Will that also bring back the stock recovery and delete twrp?
Also, will the KNOX counter be triggered even if I unroot and return back to stock using the above method?
Final question is what will I miss if I root the phone? I suppose KNOX and Samsung Pay. Will everything else work as normal? Will I have any problem with the camera's performance?
I thank you very much in advance for your assistance.

Hi
There is a guide here - http://www.droidviews.com/install-twrp-root-galaxy-s7-and-s7-edge-on-nougat-g935fxxu1dplt/
make sure you follow this guide EXACTLY
This is different from other phones!
The only thing you will miss is Knox and Samsung Pay correct everything else will work along with Magisk (hides root from apps such as AndroidPay/banking apps).
If you were to install a custom rom i suggest Superstock (current v2.8) As you can probably tell from the name its an improved stock with battery tweaks/camera tweaks etc
Yes when you flash TWRP KNOX is tripped and there is no going back what so ever even if you flash stock firmware and remove root knox will still be tripped so wave goodbye to knox.
if you did want to go back to normal yes just flash official stock firmware with odin this will remove root and twrp.
(knox will still be tripped though)
p.s you could skip supersu install if you are going to root via magisk instead
if you are unfamiliar with magisk etc i highly reccomend just installing a custom rom (such as the one i mentioned earlier) which comes with magisk already installed

First of all thank you so much for your kind reply, contents of which are noted.
To be honest, if I will flash a new rom, my first choise would be a full s8 port rom, like Konghloi's.
The only thing that worries me is what you said about KNOX not reseting even if I unroot and return to stock. I don't really care about the app itself (I think that even samsung will stop its development in order to propmote "secure folder". I am more concerned that I will lose my warranty since the dealers will know fore sure that the phone has been rooted at some point in the past.

I don't really care about the app itself (I think that even samsung will stop its development in order to propmote "secure folder". I am more concerned that I will lose my warranty since the dealers will know fore sure that the phone has been rooted at some point in the past.

understood, having personally tried all the s8 ports already i reccommend ambasadii's S8 Port (Konghloi is a great Dev but past experiance the ROM's are infested with bugs) I'm currently dual-booting Roms and have ambasadii's as my secondary ROM
About the warranty... if you read the fine print samsungs warranty isn't worth a great deal. it will only cover you for an electrical or mechanical fault that is common with the device. (which if your savvy enough you can fix yourself anyway) it wont cover you for any accidental damage drops/water/cracks etc...
Also you can still take your device to an other dealer to fix your phone for you, they don't care what you've done to it (with payment ofc) just not Samsung.
you really have to weigh up both options
personally i think the chances of device failure is slim and easier/quicker to fix as long as its not an expensive fix like the LCD breaking (which if you dropped it and it broke your not covered anyway)
and the pros of rooting and custom roms heavily outweigh the cons of loosing knox and voiding warranty.

That's just for certain versions of apps.
For example the new AOD apk can be installed without any problem, whilst the new samsung weather apks cannot be installed.
@EasyAndroidPro I would like your opinion for the following matter.
I came across this video on youtube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HUoVKH2zp3g
As you will see in the end of the video (at about 8:15), the guy who unrooted his s7 edge usin Odin, says (and shows) that the "warranty void : 0".
What figures...?

Didn't have chance to watch the whole video just skipped through bits but all he did was flash stock firmware... this will not reset your Knox counter and not give you warranty . He probably did not even root his phone lol all he did was update it. Also I think there is a way to root without tripping Knox but as soon as you flash twrp or custom Rom Knox is triggered.
It will unroot your phone but it will not get your warranty back once it has been voided. Knox is an e-fuse once you break it there's no going back unless you replace hardware
