Thanks a ton for the reply so did the svc center void the warranty and does this mean we will have to wait till chainfire or someone can find a way to make triangle away work on the I9500.....I kinda feel sad for the exynos variant isnt there any way to root the device without losing the warranty..

Your counter will still be raised and the status will still show modified, if they see that they may void warranty as it is not in original condition.

I am rooted. My counter is at 0. Link to stock rom with root is below
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2317105
Flashing this via odin doesnt trip the counter.

[Q] Stock installation with Knox 0x1

Hello everyone
I am now on CyanogenMod and I'm kinda sick of this "clean Android" and would like to go back to Samsung's TouchWiz.
The problem is I tripped Knox to 0x1 when I moved to CyangoenMod.
Can I go back to Stock or the Knox won't allow?
What procedure do I need to do to go back to stock?

Just download and flash regularly? Without any TriangleAway or things like that?
And what about this Knox?

Yup Just flash the stock rom and you should be fine and about Knox , dont worry about it because your phone is already voided , nothing else you can do about it until someone figure it out to reset it..and about the triangle away you can use this once you rooted your phone so that your Binary will be reset.

So after I install the stock I don't need to use Triangle Away?
Will I be able to receive OTA updates even though my Knox is 0x1?
Hi,
forget OTA updates,
and use always Odin for the updates.
It's better and faster
Yeah I know about it but anyway, will I be able to get OTA updates? And do I need to use Triangle Away after stock installation?

If you root without tripping knox then it's still good. Enter download mode to check knox. Knox 0x0 means ok
If it says 0x1 then you're boned....
odin mode current binary custom
system status custom
knox warranty void :1

If you want to get updates you need to wipe your device after flashing stock rom.... Make sure everything is backed up, go to download mode, press up volume to get to download mode and flash the rom with ODIN....

Your knox counter is 0x1.
This mean that you can say goodbye to your warranty, or not. Depending on country where you live.

Most likely the warranty is gone, Knox warranty void 0x1 means you have installed unapproved software on your device. Samsung will use this to deny warranty claims...
There is no way, currently , of resetting this. The bounty, last time I checked, was over $3000 US...

I'm from Egypt and I called the service center to confirm. (Does the warranty voided if I rooted my note 3. The answer was yes)
Sorry for the bad news, also I wang to know, you mentioned that the stock rom for Egypt is available in sammobile and u can fladh it. But its not true as the available version for Egypt is yhe Jelly Be 4.3 and yoy can't downgrade from Kitkat 4.4.2 to Jelly Bean 4.3.

u mean i can't for now flash the 4.3 via odin,and i have to wait till 4.4.2 ?
oki what would happen if i flashed the 4.3 over the 4.4.2 and what is your warranty agent ? mine's union group and i think they don't care about that am just bothered coz i wanted to trade with a 4g version and even if u had serious problem in your mobile here in egypt they might not fix it they will easily say bad use etc like they did in s3 death of motherboard and anyway it depends on the agent
My warranty agent is MTI.
For the other inquiry, yes you can't flash the 4.3 via odin as once you upgraded to Kitkat 4.4.2 you can't go back words as the boatloader has been upgraded as well.
The warranty is useful as you might have a hardware failure and if u did some noise they will fix it for you.

[Q] Binary Counter

Hello guys, i have recently bought a Samsung Galaxy S4 I9500. I switched from ios to android and i am loving it so far. I have a couple of questions: I want to root my device. Does this affect the binary counter? Also if i have a problem with my device and i have warranty, will i be able to format my device (un-root)? Also will this affect binary counter? I don't want to loose my 2 years warranty. Thanks!
PS: While i was on IOS i received a lot of support on reddit but when i asked for android stuff, i never got any response. Is this the right forum for a beginner like me?

1)Yes rooting will affect your binary counter.
2) Yes you can unroot your device to gain back warranty.
BUT the binary counter is HIDDEN!
So you can just reset the STATUS(which is official for stock n custom for unofficial)
There is an app called Triangle away which resets this counter but it only available for i9505 n not for i9500.
you have one more problem that is Knox In some service centers do not pay attention to it, but in others lose two year warranty on the phone

First have a look on the stickies of Knox discussion. You wont get official software updates if you trip knox(as recovery is custom aftr rooting) n there are knox friendly rooting methods. But I dont really care about knox and after rooting it is upto you that you aint flashing anything wrong or not following the instructions. All the best.

Twice my phone was in service for Knox experiments that I did
Had twice to change the motherboard, but it was replaced under warranty because I have a version that my phone and just motherboard died and there is nothing to see in the Samsung service centre
Knox is a major obstacle

As I said previously that you should know what are you flashing and what will happen after it. If you flash anything by not following the correct procedure then you ll pay for it. I rooted my s4 3 months ago and immediately took a backup of my OS through a custom recovery. This backup helps me if something gets wrong. And I really dont care about about Knox because what you lose is only OTA updates and nothing else. So after rooting even you can backup your OS n stay on stock as long you want. Choice is yours. If your warranty will be void depends strongly on in which country you live. There is no yes or no answer.
Flash anything but an official Samsung package through Odin and it will trigger the Knox flag and change the device status to Custom. OTA updates will stop.
Re flashing an official Samsung package afterwards will change the device back to Official and OTA updates will resume. But the Knox flag will still show as triggered. Theres no way to reset it.

[Q] question about returning to stock ROM

My question is this...I rooted through towel root and installed a stock ROM for google play. I would like to know how to return to T-Mobile stock ROM so I can return phone in case of warranty issues.
I'm curious as to the step by step process. I can find the build if I need to. I didn't save the stock ROM in clockwork mod. Its a T-Mobile s4 sgh-m919
Any help is greatly appreciated. If not, its not the end of the world. I just wanted to see if I could do it.

Hi mate ,
As long as you did not trip the knox you can flash a stock rom for your country and carrier from here
http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/1/?model=GT-I9505&pcode=XTE#firmware
And it will be just like new.
You have to use Odin to do it
And even if you have tripped the knox flag you can still flash back to stock.
Many service centers will not look into it and will just service the phone anyway as long as you have stock.
is it possible

You mention " return phone in case of warranty issues." your warranty is void if the knox bit is set if you have a custom recovery or flash a custom rom , the knox bit is set.

Flash with Odin using a PC, yes. I have done it many times.
I do not know what to do if you only have a Mac.
Of course If knox is set warranty is void, but many times they will overlook it. It is always worth a try.

Heres another screenshot from Phone Info app. Now the since this app detects knox warranty void on models like s4, s5 and as far as I know s6, I highly doubt samsung went thru the trouble of putting some undetectable warranty counter and a mid range device such as our S3 neos.

I rooted mine the second day I got it (I got it somewhere around January). So far havent had any problems with it and the knox (if there is one) still says 0x0. That said rooting and flashing custom recovery is still something that may potentialy harm your device so its up to you to decide. Dont take my words as 100% proof everything will be ok. Maybe indeed w8 for a few more ppl to say if they had any problems with knox so far.

You know what after rooting my mobile the first thing I did is to remove the Knox crap from my mobile, they scared me enough but not anymore:good:
I can confirm that re-flashing a stock rom resets the binary counter to official. Happy rooting!

Yep! Your warranty will not be void as long as your device is running a stock rom when you turn it in. You can check your binary counter by going to download mode.

If you flash CM 12.1 , it will trip the binary counter but you can always reset the binary counter with the help of Triangle Away App by ChainFire. Resetting the binary counter and then flashing the Stock Rom will restore the warranty of your device.

I'm not talking about Knox Counter but I'm talking about Binary Counter which every Samsung phone already have and keeps track of how many times a custom firmware had been flashed. And as far as Knox Security is concerned there is still no way to reset Knox counter but fortunately S3 NEO don't have it.
