Working speakerphone for Cyanogenmod based Roms? - Galaxy S 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all,
I don't know if anyone has ever figured this out. I have used CM12, 12.1 and now CM13 based roms on my G900W8 (klte) and they are always pretty amazing except some minor bugs usually but I have never had a working speakerphone. As soon as I turn on speaker during a voice call the other end gets all echo-ey and can hear themselves.
I think that it may be an issue of the speakerphone using the wrong mic or something and I have tried playing with mixer_paths.xml with no luck. I hope that someone here might have figured out at least a workaround.
Cheers!

Install lattest soundabout from Playstore
Then changing the Media and Phone Call Audio into 'Speaker' and 'Earpeice' respectively (instead of 'Let App Decide').
Now It will must be solved

I'm also having the speakerphone echo issues with CM 5.1 or CM13 roms... does not happen using stock TW roms. Soundabout sounds like a manual workaround not a solution. Disabling the Talkback service on 5.1 seems to fix it but there is no way to disable talkback service on CM13 unless I'm missing something.

I rebooted multiple times already. You're sure the other end of your phone calls doesn't have any issues? My wife said it sounded OK when I was talking but when it was her talking it sounded really echo-ey and sounded like Charlie Brown teacher voices.

[Q] Volume changes sporadically on AT&T Galaxy S5 - can I log changes?

Hello,
I have a Samsung Galaxy S5 bought through AT&T, and the volume (ringer/system volume from silent to vibrate to loud and vice versa) seems to change sporadically on its own. I'm unable to identify the cause. I put the phone into safe mode, and as far as I know, it doesn't change the volume on its own when in safe mode, so I have reason to believe it's from an app I installed. I currently have Volume Locker installed as a temporary solution. This problem never happened on my Galaxy S3 through AT&T, with no different apps installed after upgrading. I do not have any apps that change the volume profile.
Question: is there a way I can log (in real-time) volume changes and also the apps that put in the request for these changes?

I've never hear of an app like that, but it's most likely turning on in your pocket. The S5 has very high tough sensitivity so even in your pocket it can change things without you knowing.

I thought the same thing too, but I've left my phone completely alone, and it'll still switch sound modes on its own. It has to be an app.
Anyone have any ideas on this app business or logging? In Developer options, there's a setting where I can turn on OpenGL traces...could this possibly monitor actions? I have no idea how to use it and don't know what it does.

Not rude at all. I actually already replaced it once, and it's doing the same thing. My fault for not mentioning that sooner. If asked why not get a different phone, the answer is because I don't want to.

Very Low In-Call Phone Speaker Volume

Hi,
I just got my Nexus 6P. The volume of music is very loud, but of the phone-call speaker mode very weak despite me putting it at max volume while in call.
Is there a fix/ work-around?
Thank you!

Rooting and turning up overall decibals. Though it just sounds like garbage at that point. I have tried it. The speakers are just crappy IMO.
They are great for music, it's just that the phone speakers are extremely weak. Anyone? Help?

I own the phone dude. They are the same speakers. Root it and use a custom kernel to turn up the volume. Not sure what else you think can be done. There is not a separate speaker for only calls.....
I'm not interested in pumping out all my volumes, only phone speaker

Look in your: system/etc/mixer_paths.xml and change all the Digital Volume from 84 to 95 or whatever you want, save, exit and reboot. I haven't had to do this I've been on roms since the 1st hour I received my device. Never noticed the low volume but this is what I did on previous devices and worked fine. Hope that helps.

Since you would have to root to do that, it would be much easier to just install a kernel where you can move a slider to change it. The OP doesn't want all volumes up though. Just phone.
Anyone figure out which one controls just in call ear-speaker volume?

Got me on that one? I've used Dolby Atmos on other devices (Rooted) and it did the same thing? I think what when songs are playing, they'll register higher than half way and you kind of go off of that?
I've never really liked setting up Dolby Atmos, but once it's set up it sounds really good.

Yes I love the sound. But the customs don't want to go higher whether a song is playing or not.

did you finally figure out how to keep it from sliding back down I am having the same exact issue.
Hi,
I have the same problem and done an extensive research about it on the web. There are 10 kinds of people: One who can set the equaliser settings like they want (even above the magical 50% mark) and those who experience the problem, that the sliders slide back to 50%. I belong to the latter ones and I'm really pissed off about that, because I bought the Phone because of its famous sound qualities and while holding the finger on the equalizer the sound IS amazing. But I'm not willing to do this every time I play music, so any ideas how to solve this issue?
Greetings,
Martin
PS: Wow, this site has change a lot, since my XDA Orbit...

Basically you don't have to use Atmos if you want good sound quality. Atmos is only made to be used with the speakers. It uses the secondary DAC, which is worse overall.
If you want good sound quality install Viper4ARISE.
P.S. If you don't mind a very high noise floor you can use V4A+Atmos+AK4490 patch together on a custom ROM. It's probably the best way to listen to MP3s even though the noise floor might be somewhat high.

Dolby equaliser not working

Hello everyone, when I open equaliser from Google Play Music or Spotify I only get a white screen with Dolby surround sound written on top and nothing else appears. Does the Nokia 5 comes with Dolby deactivated or is it just a problem of mine?
Likewise. Not sure if the DSP app is working or not since I cannot compare. It seems to me that it works but has no established controls like the Dolby Atmos app in my other phone. I hope they fix this in the next update.

This appears to be fixed for me now in the latest software update that I received today. I did have to clear the app data though for the MusicFX app before it started working.
I confirm it works after deleting music fx data
Looks like it has been fixed since the release of september's security patch

What's the deal with Android 10?

Hopefully someone, possibly a dev, can clear this up. I've been wondering this ever since the first A10 custom rom came out for the X00TD: Why do all A10 roms suffer from the following problems? I remember testing more than a dozen different ROMs and all of them suffered the same issues. Issues that weren't present on stock, mind you.
Issues that I noticed:
1. Mic quality was consistently all-around abysmal. Even if you amplified the mic volume through custom kernel settings, the horrible quality would still remain. I found that the fix to this problem was to download the ASUS Sound Recorder app that comes with the stock ROM. Simply having the app installed fixed all the mic issues. To this day, I still don't know why. This isn't the main point of the thread but I would appreciate it if someone has, at least, a theory.
2. GPS was absolutely horrible. Time to first 3D fix in clear weather with no obstructions took roughly a minute and a half (tested with the GPS Test app). Sometimes shorter, sometimes MUCH longer but consistently more than 20 seconds. Too often would I open Google Maps, get ready for a drive and have it not detect my location because it hadn't gotten a fix yet. Even after getting a fix, if you stopped using the GPS for a few seconds and moved a few meters away, it would take excruciatingly long to get a fix again. I've tried editing gps.conf and numerous other solutions but, at the moment, this issue still remains unsolved.
Honestly, these are the only two that really bothered me and if it weren't for the solution to problem #1, I would've stayed with stock as these, combined, are huge deal breakers. With that being said, I should reiterate that these problems DO NOT occur in stock and have never occurred.
On the other hand, these problems are completely absent from Android 11 roms. GPS locks on instantly and is equal to stock performance and microphone is clear and flawless without needing to install Sound Recorder. Why is this? Why all these problems and why aren't they present in Android 11? Please, don't hold back any technicalities as this intrigues me very much. Cheers!
