Very Low In-Call Phone Speaker Volume - Nexus 6P Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
I just got my Nexus 6P. The volume of music is very loud, but of the phone-call speaker mode very weak despite me putting it at max volume while in call.
Is there a fix/ work-around?
Thank you!

Rooting and turning up overall decibals. Though it just sounds like garbage at that point. I have tried it. The speakers are just crappy IMO.

They are great for music, it's just that the phone speakers are extremely weak. Anyone? Help?

I own the phone dude. They are the same speakers. Root it and use a custom kernel to turn up the volume. Not sure what else you think can be done. There is not a separate speaker for only calls.....

I'm not interested in pumping out all my volumes, only phone speaker

Look in your: system/etc/mixer_paths.xml and change all the Digital Volume from 84 to 95 or whatever you want, save, exit and reboot. I haven't had to do this I've been on roms since the 1st hour I received my device. Never noticed the low volume but this is what I did on previous devices and worked fine. Hope that helps.

Since you would have to root to do that, it would be much easier to just install a kernel where you can move a slider to change it. The OP doesn't want all volumes up though. Just phone.

Anyone figure out which one controls just in call ear-speaker volume?

hahaha,I already did it,and tried all connfigurations, but the volume still hi
lol. Well... is the volume high in just Mediascape?
Try another player or the YouTube app.
Or, go to Settings > Sound & Display > Media Volume ?
volume is high with all programs;and media volume is in minime
In that case, another option is buying headphones that need more juice to drive, or in other words, headphones with high impedance.

Good idea,I'll try...another idea?
If you really can not control your volume at all it sounds like a faulty device, software or hardware i cant say. Try doin a software repair through SEUS.

i think that"s just a software problem, cause I can control the volume music, but the minime volume is a little high to me...i want to decrease just a little, there's no registry entry to fix this?like windows mobile?
Aah!, like I find the minimum brightness too bright at night.
You can move the headphone away from your ear and Ill wear sunglasses.

Maby you need better ripped mp3's then with a lower volume from the start, i noticed it can differ quite much from one mp3 to another so i need to adjust the volume up and down to keep the sound on an even level.

[Guide] Sound fix that works (Omina 7/Focus)

Thought you focus owners might find this useful as well:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1342622
I made it easier for Focus owners (rather than bouncing on Omnia 7 threads/wiki).
To increase overall loudness of the phone (Focus/Omnia7):
Run Diagnosis, type *#0002*28345# to get to the "Sound Tuning" menu.
Locate "Device Gain" (lower part of the screen)
The first value identifies the output. Legend:
2 - ear speaker (call)
5 - headphones
7 - back speaker (default shown)
Standard values for a Focus AT&T/Rogers are:
2 600 -1600
5 400 -1100
7 1200 -500
(you can check by entering the device number and pressing Get).
Suggested values in the Omnia thread (to improve loudness):
2 1000 -1600
5 1200 -1200
7 0 -500
For my AT&T/Rogers focus, only 5-headphones seem to work (it's louder).
Anyone else?
On another note, Roger's speakerphone seems a tad louder that AT&T's, on the default values...

Don't forget to thank ballajalla for his post!
Good idea I wish more people used the different devices wiki's though, makes it so much easier to find useful information.
I stand corrected! (Back) Speaker is also louder, not just headphones as I originally stated. However, NOT if you play in Zune!
So: alarm sounds, notifications, calls/ringtones ARE louder, but playing a song or video in Zune is the same audio level as before! Maybe playing in Zune is on another Device gain value? (different from 2, 5 or 7)
I still don't see a difference in call loudness but that might be me
Everything sounds much better except for Zune video for me as well. Actually playing a movie trailer in an app like Flixster is terrible too. If my volume is under '12' I can't hear anything...have to turn it to max (30) to hear. I would love the values to adjust volume for video playback if there are any. Also has anyone noticed any improvement with sound auxiliary out to a car stereo? That volume seems extremely low also.
Has anybody been able to increase bass through this diagnosis app?

Want to freeze the volume limiter 'Nanny' but can't find it

Just rooted the phone today and DL'd TiBu and am looking for the process that causes the volume to decrease with that ridiculous 'Listening at full volume may cause your head to explode' stupid A warning so I can freeze the thing. Tired of constantly having to increase the volume to full when listening to music and then that stupid warning popping up. What is that process called so I can freeze its azz???

Well, that didn't work. The only thing it changes is no notification it's dropping the volume. It still IS dropping the volume about a third down. That is what I want to prevent, not necessarily the notification that it's doing it but the volume drop. Any ideas how to stop it from dropping the volume when I use Google Music, PowerAmp, Pandara, etc???

I use tasker for that. As soon as I plug headphones in I have it set to move volume to max. I've never found another way unfortunately.

That's one thing I miss about my old Razr Maxx, the Moto task manager that allowed me to change values during certain times of day or during certain actions. Does Tasker work pretty well doing that?? I'll charge my phone overnight at times and when it hits 100% it turns the screen on and it never goes off. And the volume is full blast at night and I'll get a task and I'll nearly jump out of my socks when it sounds.

Volume boost by TricksterMod

Hi Guys,
I don't know if everybody noticed yet, but there is an option in TricksterMod to control the volume. You can boost volume up to 25%.(Or more i think)
I know there are a few soundmods out here, but even by installing them, volume is still low.
Even microphone/camera volume can be adjusted. Maybe good for calls, i have not been tested yet.
So, just want to let you guys know
We can boost sound level in Gravitybox, another alternative.

I have Franco Kernel installed, downloaded Kernel Tweaker from playstore(which is pretty much Trickster MoD). The sound tweaks will be in "Kernel" setting within "Kernel Tweaker" app.
Trickster helped in increasing my in-call volume issues. Thanks

In the Specific tab, there is a button called Sound Control where I upped all the volume levels a little bit and I must tell you that it has made a huge difference. Now I have to reduce my in-call volume since its too loud :laugh:

Got me on that one? I've used Dolby Atmos on other devices (Rooted) and it did the same thing? I think what when songs are playing, they'll register higher than half way and you kind of go off of that?
I've never really liked setting up Dolby Atmos, but once it's set up it sounds really good.

Yes I love the sound. But the customs don't want to go higher whether a song is playing or not.

did you finally figure out how to keep it from sliding back down I am having the same exact issue.
Hi,
I have the same problem and done an extensive research about it on the web. There are 10 kinds of people: One who can set the equaliser settings like they want (even above the magical 50% mark) and those who experience the problem, that the sliders slide back to 50%. I belong to the latter ones and I'm really pissed off about that, because I bought the Phone because of its famous sound qualities and while holding the finger on the equalizer the sound IS amazing. But I'm not willing to do this every time I play music, so any ideas how to solve this issue?
Greetings,
Martin

Basically you don't have to use Atmos if you want good sound quality. Atmos is only made to be used with the speakers. It uses the secondary DAC, which is worse overall.
If you want good sound quality install Viper4ARISE.
P.S. If you don't mind a very high noise floor you can use V4A+Atmos+AK4490 patch together on a custom ROM. It's probably the best way to listen to MP3s even though the noise floor might be somewhat high.
