What's the deal with Android 10? - Asus ZenFone Max Pro M1 Questions & Answers

Hopefully someone, possibly a dev, can clear this up. I've been wondering this ever since the first A10 custom rom came out for the X00TD: Why do all A10 roms suffer from the following problems? I remember testing more than a dozen different ROMs and all of them suffered the same issues. Issues that weren't present on stock, mind you.
Issues that I noticed:
1. Mic quality was consistently all-around abysmal. Even if you amplified the mic volume through custom kernel settings, the horrible quality would still remain. I found that the fix to this problem was to download the ASUS Sound Recorder app that comes with the stock ROM. Simply having the app installed fixed all the mic issues. To this day, I still don't know why. This isn't the main point of the thread but I would appreciate it if someone has, at least, a theory.
2. GPS was absolutely horrible. Time to first 3D fix in clear weather with no obstructions took roughly a minute and a half (tested with the GPS Test app). Sometimes shorter, sometimes MUCH longer but consistently more than 20 seconds. Too often would I open Google Maps, get ready for a drive and have it not detect my location because it hadn't gotten a fix yet. Even after getting a fix, if you stopped using the GPS for a few seconds and moved a few meters away, it would take excruciatingly long to get a fix again. I've tried editing gps.conf and numerous other solutions but, at the moment, this issue still remains unsolved.
Honestly, these are the only two that really bothered me and if it weren't for the solution to problem #1, I would've stayed with stock as these, combined, are huge deal breakers. With that being said, I should reiterate that these problems DO NOT occur in stock and have never occurred.
On the other hand, these problems are completely absent from Android 11 roms. GPS locks on instantly and is equal to stock performance and microphone is clear and flawless without needing to install Sound Recorder. Why is this? Why all these problems and why aren't they present in Android 11? Please, don't hold back any technicalities as this intrigues me very much. Cheers!

You need to use a specific version. IIRC I used version 1.9.0.45

[Q] Recent Apps wrong size

Hey all, I haven't found this posted anywhere, but does anyone else experience this bug? It's been here for every iteration of CM7 I've tried (and I've virtually flashed every nightly and went through several wipes over the course of the last few months, big props to the team)
The Recent Apps window occasionally is too small, but sometimes it works! I've turned off compatibility mode. It seems to happen often with landscape mode.

Again, it doesn't happen every time, just sometimes.
There's a thread somewhere regarding LCD density....Search it. If I was at my puter I could post the link but im on my phone.

So here's the deal with that.
It's a thing CM7'ers are stuck with.
If you change to 160 dpi, it will fix it. Assuming you're running the latest market and maps, 160 should be okay.
A solution most of us have done is install Recent Apps Plus and starting from step 1, replaced the default recent apps. I like it more with the volume control and all
To change to 160 if you want, go to system/build.prop w/root explorer or the like and change the line that is about halfway down from 161 to 160, and that will fix it.
You could also try turning off compatibility mode in settings >applications >development, but I've had limited success with that and the recent apps popup.

I'm currently using ' More Recent' to get around this problem. Its simple and so far has worked without any problems: https://market.android.com/details?id=com.britoso.morerecent&feature=search_result

S4 mini (any version) Lollipop issues

Seeing that there are a lot of posts in L topics that mention the same problem, and only 'pollute' topics with useless stuff I thought about making this thread.
This is UNOFFICIAL and I just want to make it 'easier' to fix problems some users are reporting, well least try to put all 'useful' tips into one topic.
All I'm expecting is:
-Post your model i919(0/2/5/7)
-Baseband version (don't forget region)
-kernel
-Lollipop ROM you are using
-list issues you have
-list any fix that has not been posted in this thread before that might help fix some common problems (for example losing audio in call)
-any additional stuff that might be relevant
For lurkers: If a fix helped you, hit thanks, if not - post your solution or wait until a fix
I'm going to start:
-i9195
-I9195XXUCNJ6, europe
-3.4.0-aosp-gdae987b (included in CM12)
-cm-12-20141211-UNOFFICIAL-serranoltexx.zip
-in call my mic stops working (but mostly with pre3 kernel, going to see if it works better with kernel included in cm12)
-did full wipe today, installed clean cm-12-20141208 and upgraded a few hours later to cm-12-20141211
Wrong post. nevermind.
WiFi has lately started going to sleep when the phone is being left idle for 20-30 mins even though I have set it to always stay on. This issue made me get away from CM11 and it's very frustrating to encounter it now here as well. The issue came along with the build before the 11-12-2014 one.

Is this a stage fright patch? Or a lollipop update? I rather stay on kitkat since lollipop was a mess. I use it as a wifi device and its never been connected to Boost.
Here's the end result
The update hangs quite a bit around 77%-90% (phase 1) then it goes into phase 2 and finishes the update.
strange I can't find info about this patch ..
are you seen something new after update?

me neither. if you can tell by the timestamps on my screenshots i was looking all over the place. it is snappier but that could be a placebo. also, i don't know about call quality or mobile data since i basically use it as an iPod.

I search in sharp and sprint webpages but there still show s4081 as last update.. for now I will not update my phone bcs I don't want to waste my chances to unlock bootloader or root if some one find a way...
Maybe???
I just got it too my phone won't install it cause me battery is to low but, I'm pretty sure its a patch to fix the multimedia message problems . too small of a file to be lollipop .or maybe it's a straight to SD patch idk probably one of the two..lol.
Just updated. Touch feels more responsive but it usually does after an update. Here's to hoping it doesn't crap out again.
Compared to the last build it has a new kernel. So far the only thing I've noticed, is that instagram doesn't auto play video with sound, (finally!) like it should. Before it would blast the speakers whether you tapped on the video to turn off/on sound.
It fixed my MMS problems.

Fresh Nougat install very laggy

Hey guys
I installed Nougat the other day and it was extremely laggy, for example it would take about 5+ seconds to unlock the screen after a successful fingerprint read. This evening I decided to do a completely fresh install to see if it could have been some old files from 6.0 causing it. Unfortunately not. The lag has returned again.
Even pulling down the notification drawer is very laggy. It's almost as if the phone is trying really hard to do something and doesn't have enough resources to do what I'm asking.
So my question is, what should I do? Is this a known problem? I don't really want to downgrade back to Marshmallow.
I did try and search around on these forums and a general Google search but nothing really came up.
Thanks!
This seems to be getting worse. Feels like the CPU is constantly maxed out.
Does anyone have any idea what could be causing this? I really don't want to wipe my phone again to downgrade back to Marshmallow but I might have to because it's rendering the phone almost unusable.
For reference I'm on NRD90U
Here is a screenshot of the battery stats:

Hi !
Actually i have the same issue with my 6P on a clean install too and i'm very regarding concerning the smoothness of a phone (and that why I sell my galaxy s6 for the 6P).
Before nougat, i had the jgcaap CM rom, and it was always buttery smooth !
Now with nougat, just pulling down the notification drawer struggle too, and don't feel like before. I can definitely feel some lag in scrolling in instagram or even the app drawer..
I think i'm going to roll back to CM 13, and wait for CM 14
Mine is smooth. No lag at all.
Maybe a rogue app ?
Any way to easily see what app could be causing it other than removing all third party apps?
You could try Cool Tool and have all displayed labels: CPU usage, frequency, Ram and Most Ressource-intensive process checked.
If it's CPU bound then you might find the process. If it's IO bound then you won't find the process.
If rooted, you could also check logcat, dmesg.
Or reboot in safe mode.
Last would be to factory reset to make sure it's not a hardware fault. And do not restore apps immediately..
Try rebooting to safe mode to see if the problem goes away...

I've been on Nougat about a week and it's been very smooth for more with the exception of a few apps that I had to clear data for to get working properly. I restored some of them with Titanium Backup so I'm sure that caused the issue. Nougat itself has been very smooth and responsive though.
So it turns out that Tune In Pro radio app was the culprit. I used to use it as an alarm, but I noticed that as soon as I set the alarm on it, the phone started lagging. Thanks for everyone's help! Much appreciated!

Most stable up-to-date ROM for h870

Hi volks,
I tried some roms since my warranty period is over.
But I can't find any 100% satisfying right now.
Hevoc was a desaster, lineageos proved better, but there was no fingerprint sensor and huge bettery drain, which is critical for me. The most fitting so far is Pixel experience. But this ROM does not support instant tourch with long pressed powerbutton, which is very useful for me and USB connection to the computer seems corrupt.
So what ROM do you suggest?

Hi @iCuba, the issue answering your question is and will always be highly biased due to individual experiences. That said, my suggestion is to stay on LineageOS 14.1, that's what I use since long time. I do tried version 15 and 16 but I had a couple of issues that were show stoppers: camera not working and too many random reboots.
Tha bad news is that the ROM is not being maintained anymore in XDA, see this thread.
The good news is that you can compile it by yourself and that security patches are still backported, so you will have a certain degree of extra security.
As per my experience, note that I don't use Google Apps in my phone, and I use the phone very seldom. I install a few apps with f-droid and self-host all my services. Also, the fingerprint sensor works, and I have no battery drain at all, check these screenshots, 4 days is very very good for me.

Hi knzor,
thank you very much for your time to create this detailed review of your personal experience with Lineage14.
Since no ROM fitts completely to my needs until now perhaps I will give it a try at the weekend. I hope it is not that difficult to compile my own version of lineage. I lost my interest in computers a few years ago, since one problem creates a nother and updates seems to make things more worse than bevor.
