Hi, I am going to buy ZE550KL. I read in a review that sound output from loudspeaker is very low. Is it true? I use loudspeaker a lot in my phone calls. Will it be a problem for me?

If you turn off ASUS AudioWizard, the sound of loudspeaker will be low.

How low is it (a comparison with something would be great)? Can it fill a room? I own a Galaxy S advance and the sound on it is so low that sometimes I can't even hear the ringtone when I am near the room the phone is kept in.

I can't make a compare but the loudspeaker is pretty loud with max volume and activated AudioWizard. Sound can fill my room.

Thanks. One last thing. Is the phone call audio output via loudspeaker good or not? Most of the time I am taking calls on loudspeaker.

I can't say anything about it, I used loudspeaker for call for only one time. Loudspeaker worked fine though.
Flash dolby n speaker sound will be loud then
Got the phone and I am using it for quite a few days. The loudspeaker is fine. It's not too low as mentioned in reviews. It's lower than some smartphones like Moto G. But it is still loud enough to fill the room with Asus audio wizard. I found this phone better than Moto G in many ways and for the price I have to say I am impressed with it. Only downside is the Camera which is average in inadequate lighting but hey for the price I paid I really can't complain. ZenUI is awesome. I am coming from Touchwiz which is crap and laggy compared to ZenUI. Call quality is also really good. Overall Excellent phone. For those having doubts about loudspeaker's capability just don't doubt and GO FOR IT. I recommend this phone for the low price and the quality and functionality it provides
Edit: I forgot to mention the amazing battery life I am getting on ZFL2. 5 hours of SOT and 2 days standby which will only get better when it gets Android 6.0 with DOZE. One of the best battery life I have seen in an Android phone.

Can some of you tell me the sound quality of the N1 when your phone rings and the ringtone starts to play? Or if you are playing music without headphones. I have had the G1 since day one and recently bought my wife the MyTouch3g and the audio quality was day and night (MyTouch kicking the G1's ass in quality). Can anybody tell me the difference between the N1 and the MyTouch or the G1?
Thanks!!!
Seems pretty impressive to me, used it a few times and could hear it well, even from the other rooom I could hear it well. I have a G1 and mytouch and as far as I can tell its a lot louder.

Whew - I was worried it sucked - Thanks!
Got my N1 tonight - you weren't lying - sound is very impressive compared to the G1 and MyTouch3g
This baby sounds great & better than my past WM devices!
Oh, is there a market player or update to play my ton of wma music files?
My N1 is MUCH quieter than my Hero was. It sounds decent for ringtones and such, a little tinny but not bad.

Was your Hero really loud with bad sound quality? I never cared for extremely loud devices (It seemed grainy and poor quality). I prefer medium to loud but with excellent quality. And how MUCH quieter??
My Hero was louder than this phone... not obscenely loud, though. It WOULD get loud enough to distort when playing music/ringtones at max volume, but lowering it one notch eliminated it.
I kept my Hero at about half volume for the ringer, and it was perfectly audible from the next room or when I had music playing in the car, things like that (not loud enough to be uncomfortable while at home or hanging out with friends, though).
My N1 is clear, although tinny like I said, and will not distort, but that's because it can't get loud enough to. At max volume my N1 still almost can't be heard from the next room with nothing else going on, you'd have to know what to listen for.
It's clear, and when I have it way up I can hear it, but it's not loud enough IMO. This may just be my unit, as others are apparently not having this issue, but I am.
The speaker is ok. It's not as loud as my past Nokia's (which had the best speakers), but it's about on par with the iPhone's speakers. It's pretty clear, just not loud enough sometimes. Although if the source volume is quite high, it can get pretty loud, such as playing a video or music. For some reason the ring tones are innately lower in volume.

I noticed that too about the ringtones not being as loud - Sounds like there's a need for a volume hack (no pun intended).
coming from Touch pro 2, I'm a lil disappointed wit the max volume on the nexus, but I'm sure there wit be a way soon 2 bump it up some. It is very clear though

yes sur. It's just as clear. Out the box, it was a lil louder than the Nexus. But after I put a Audio boost par in it, wow. Kept the quality and was loud. I rarely had the volume all the way up.
Hello,
I was just reading a review on Hemorrdroids.
http://hemorrdroids.net/htc-desire-hd-review/
in the review it is quoted that the external speaker was something your mates will laugh at as the quality is that poor ?
I am hoping to upgrade to this phone in a couple of weeks. I was just wondering if that is that statement true ? I do use my external speaker sharing you tube videos with my mates at work. I can't imagine it being that bad.
Cheers for your help !!!

if you are familiar with the other HTC phones such as the Desire and Nexus One, then this is pretty much the same on the HD. Quality is "bearable", but it is simply not loud enough. Max setting on the Desire HD is approx60-70& of Milestone Speaker loudness.
Yep, its the worst I have had...but the quality of the phone makes up for it.
Well its not good but to say its really bad.. when you use dolby mobile its okay.. and when you use dolby mobile on headset its AWESOME!! best i've ever heard on any phone / mp3 player
Yes I can confirm that. I just got mine, first thing I tested is external speaker volume, media playback sound, ringtones, etc. For the so called media abilities touted for the DHD I have to say the exernal speakers for both sound quality & more importantly loudness is pathetic.
I have a normal Desire, a iPhone 4 & a Samsung Galaxy S to compare it to right here I'm afraid to say its definately not in the same league as the latter 2 & even the Desire which I find quite tinny seems to go louder.
Maybe someone will make an audio hack so it goes louder!

Ring volume is not that great I'm afraid.
I'm the reviewer...
I just find it so annoying, look at the San Fran, £99 and it's speaker is FAR better. Come on HTC!!!
The speaker is rubbish, it's just not loud enough. You can't even hear the GPS talking in a car lol.
If you want to see how sad it is, ive just updated the video thread with it in the bugs/problems sections a guy had some laugh with it.
to be honest the sound quality through the headphones is far more important to me. I guess it depends how you use the phone. Im just glad that people say the quality through a good pair of headphones is awesome!

im skeptical of how awesome it is, ive been spoiled with sound quality with my cowon S9 and Q-jays IEM's, im hoping that the DHD will sound on par with the cowon however i doubt it will be
awesome compared to iphone/ipod ....now that i can see
Speaker is woeful
I can also confirm that the external speaker is really disappointing. I criticised the original Desire for poor speaker volume and the promise of Dolby Mobile and SRS was one of the deal breakers in choosing to upgrade to the HD.
The ringtone selection is limited because you need to look for ones that are naturally loud. Forget watching some videos on the awesome screen when you can't hear the audio. I guess SatNav is going to be difficult too.
I use MixZing to improve speaker output for music when earphones are not nearby. But unless a hack appears to increase native volume, it's going to be a problem for a lot of people.
As a plus point, sound through ear/headphones is very impressive. Still needs a volume boost but perfectly acceptable for music playback.
Reminds me of the streak when i got it on 1.6 the speaker was quiet and made odd noises when put up full then came 2.1 its louder and clearer....Quite possibly a retarded software safety limit implemented.

this is a deal breaker for me!
i thought with the SRS and all other crap they advertised that the speakers would be a bit decent! i have the n1 and the loud speaker and earpiece just total crap even with the hack to make them louder...
been missing a lot of calls cuz can't hear the phone (don't like vibration) ringing and when listening to the other side i try to find a quite place to listen to them as if i raise the volume the sound become very high pitched ..
damn you HTC i though the loud speaker would be at least like the ones in the EVO which is quite good!
a 50 bucks Chinese phone has far way better speaker than this crappy 700+ phone
hmm maybe most HTC's employees are bats! use high pitched frequencies to communicate
Can anyone compare the loudspeaker with HD2 ? HD2 seems even too loud for me.
Are you satisfied with the external speakers on the Desire HD?
Everyone please answer the poll so we can get an accurate idea of what Desire HD users think about the external speakers.
I've read so many post on how bad their speaker is, but I must say, either I have bad ears, or I'm lucky, and got one with a great speaker. No problem making it loud enough, and I can even make it too loud. All without any crackling, or distortion. I love it!

I guess it may be a 1st batch issue then. If your speakers really are good it would mean that all our speakers are faulty. If this is the case it's a warranty issue, so we could get it fixed.
Could you make a video of the sound, preferably comparing it to another phone?

Yep. I post it as soon as I can.
I can hardly wait!
I have a DHD from the first batch and the external speaker sound is not loud enough (even on max.) and the sound quality is poor.
Not happy.
I'm getting similar sound quality from an over 2 year old TouchPro.
Contacted HTC support and all they advised was to remove battery reboot and check volume was set to maximum.
Told them that had been done - no reply since...........

Already posted in the other thread, but considering I registered here just to complain about this speaker, I figured why not post again here
Speaker reminds me of an old Nokia that I sent back within the first week of receiving it. Except it's worse. Tinny and crackly. HTC can do far better. I'm still undecided as to whether I'll keep the phone as a result. I've ordered a bluetooth headset just to deal with this issue, but now I read that it's having problems with the BT headsets too!
can't you use DSPmanager and increase the volume of the loud speaker? We have full root after all.

I haven't tried that, but I have tried PowerAmp music player to boost music.
The result was as I expected: hardly any increase in volume, at the expense of crackly distorted bad sound quality - worse than it was at "normal" levels.
The strange thing is this:
Some apps sounds louder and some is hard to hear.
Have all volume sliders at max.
An MP3 used as alarm sounds higher then one played trough the mediaplayer.
Isnt this strange?
I have been missing calls at work so i bought a Samsung Bluetooth speaker BS300. It has just landed today. It is small and thin and also the sound quality is excellent and loud. I am waiting for the battery now to charge and i will leave a few comments later when i have made and received a few calls with it
I found the speaker was quite poor and sold the phone. Not just because of the speaker, was more that I just didn't feel it was a significant upgrade over the normal Desire.
Anyway, before I sold the DHD I compared the sound against my Desire, a Samsung i8910 and a Nokia N95. Even the old Nokia sounded better than both HTC phones and the Samsung just blew everything away.
I understand there's a lot of sound technology in the phone, but it only works if using headphones. Speaker is just a token affair as far as I'm concerned.
Just to make sure,
I hope there are no complaints related with the quality of the sound with a good set of headphones like Sennheisser or something like that, right?

Thanks for taking the effort, as this could be a major development.
If your speaker really is very good, we can show this to HTC, and they will have to say that this is a warranty issue.
Personally I do really hope it is, because like london_euphoria said: the rest of the phone is great, it's only the external speaker that is a drawback.

Agree. That's why I want to make sure it's a recording of the true quality, not a choppy cell phone recording. Bare with me. I should have it up this week.
I'm pretty curious to know since GSMArena lambasted the audio output of the device when playing via headphones.
How do you guys find the quality? Acceptable?
I find it to be pretty good, even with the earphones that came with it.

How about the speaker where we listen to other people when we are on a call?
And other people hear you well?
People on call sound very clear, and I haven't had any complaints from people while I'm talking to them.
sound quality is fine i have no complaints or issues reported from people i have called or have called me speaker phone is good no issues there unless the volume is all the way up it will distort but that is the same for most phones i beleive
i also have it paired with the sexii SE HBH is800 and have no issues
PS im loving the phone
Tough choice... I wish the screen is 4inch thou. The price point is ideal for an early adopter set.
Just want to add my two bits:
The phone call audio quality is actually very good. I had the Milestone (Droid) before and this is better. The audio quality through headphones is also good.
Where it isn't so good is for speakerphone. I don't use that very often, but if you listen to music out loud all the time, this probably isn't the phone for you (get a Surround!).
P.S. I am also in love with my phone!

Commander Data one question, i dont listen to music that much, but now and then i like too. Do you mean the speakerphone is bad quality or low volume?
I'm also concerned because i use a lot of calls on speakerphone... What are your opinions?
Thanks in advance!

It's certainly manageable. I just had a 15 minute conversation on speakerphone and the other person seemed to be able to hear me fine and I could hear them fine, it's just not excellent. I came from the Milestone, which has a superb speaker. I would say the speaker on the LG is probably half the size so it really comes down to volume. If you crank it, it gets fairly distorted (especially on calls), but at medium volume there is no distortion and you can hear it fine. In other words, it is not a selling feature on the phone, but not a detractor (I had a Blackberry before this and it wasn't as good on speakerphone). Personally, the LG's superior built quality all around is more than enough to make up for a middle of the road speaker. I think gsmarena complained about the speaker because the rest of the phone is truly at premium class and they would have liked to have seen the speaker at the premium level too.
Edit: I should note that the conversation I had on speakerphone had two other people listening in with me and they heard fine.
Thanks Commander
Hi guys,
i need your opinion concerning the call quality . I have read on Android Authority Blog that the tester was not delighted by the audio feature of the Mi Mix .
He write : " Speaking of calls, there is really no other way to put it – the ceramic vibration that replaces the phone speaker is just not a good alternative. Not only because of the nature having just one piece of vibrating material, but also because it is tucked below the layer of screen and ceramic.
There is simply not enough sound emitting from the top of the phone to make calls comfortable to listen to, much less in loud environments. I moved the phone around a lot because I thought I was just landing it improperly on my ear, but it was just not loud enough for my calls" .
What's your opinion ?
Regards.
I've not really had any problem with it, it's initially quiet but if you turn up the volume it's fine. The phone can even be heard when not to your ear.

Yeap, I've no issues with sound so far when it comes to calls.
Music audio is pretty good too. While I'm no audiophile, it does should better than my Note 5 and Lenovo Phab 2 Pro (returned in less than a week of ownage).
I find it totally satisfactory. For sure, it is not as clear as a dedicated loudspeaker but I have had no problems hearing calls. I actually enjoy the novelty of hearing sound come out of the frame and appreciate the technology involved.
Call audio is fine.
The difference is the direction of the audio, it's not as direct to the ear as a conventional phone speaker. Not any worse or better, just different.
As mentioned here, just bump up the volume if needed & you'll be fine.
If call privacy is often a concern in an otherwise extremely quiet environment, a Bluetooth may be in order. In most other scenarios, I'd say it's a non-issue.
It works well for me & I'll take this design w/the added benefit of more display real estate every time.
