Loose charging port - Galaxy Note 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Any tips on a loose charging port cause whenever i charge my device the micro usb just moves around a lot which keeps uncharging and then it charges again?

Fortunately mine isn't that loose. Maybe you could upgrade to a Samsung case making wireless charging available.
BTW: Don't know how difficult it is to repair the USB port yourself.

Charger malfunction...

Hi! Some water spilled over my charger. Being unaware of that i plugged it in to charge the phone and the charger made a popping noise and stopped working... My phone is working, im charging through the usb cable but my laptop doesnt see the phone anymore so i may transfer files... The USB cable just charges the phone...that's it... What could i do?
that popping noise was your charger going BOOM
buy a new usb cable/charger
it might be a good idea to buy a new battery, but if its not damaged then dont bother

[Q] Samsung Galaxy S5 Won't charge?

I've had my S5 for about 2 months now. and i've been having charging problems? My phone only charges when it's turned off. And does it at a very slow pace. When i turn it own, it indicate it's charging but it's going down.. Now it's not charging at all..... I check my usb voltage and the max was 1800 and it would switch from 300 to 1100?
This makes me believe it's the usb cord. Because i haven't dropped it, bent the ports. no water damages. nothing it just stop.. making me think its the usb or the battery. What is your insights on this? I am always on business trips and don't have time to send it in for repairs. please tell me its the usb cord or battery not the port or hardware?
I've also done 2 factorys resets so it's no hardware issue. i don't know how much this helps but someone told me to take the battery out to see if it would turn on. it didn't. this is a new phone that shouldn't behaving issues.
Have you tried to use your USB cord to charge other phone? Did it charge correctly? If it's yes, then try to buy a new battery.

Your description of the situation is murky. Are you charging from a wall adapter or from a computer USB port? It sounds like the latter and the problem may well be on your PC end or a bad cable e.g. have an intermittent connection. Or you may simply have a high app draw e.g. high screen brightness, processor use, gaming, etc that exceeds the current available from your USB port.
Your statement about USB voltages doesn't make sense. The nominal USB voltage is 5 volts. If it was anything near 300 - 1800, something would be on fire. Possibly you are referring to current draw in mA. But even with that assumption it's unclear what you are describing.
It's almost certainly the USB port, cable or battery. Perhaps a damaged USB port if it has been abused. It's unlikely to be the actual power circuit inside the phone. You haven't provided enough detail to really narrow anything down. Try charging from a wall charger or at least a different computer. If it works, then your port has an issue. Next try a different cable to see if the cable is obviously bad. Testing the battery without proper equipment is harder, but if your battery life is notably short or erratic then suspect the battery. Perhaps borrow a battery from a friend to try and rule out a bad battery.

It's got to be software.
My son and I have the same phone. My S5 will only charge powered off. So I'm constantly swapping batteries with him which obviously rules out the battery or any powering cords because his is fine with either battery and cords. Time to upgrade

[Q] Nexus 7 short circut damage help, please.

So, I apparently did something very stupid with my new Nexus 7.
I have a few 1 TB external hard drives, which don't get enough power via an OTG adapter from the Nexus 7 to run. So, I purchased a two into one cable -- that is, a cable that combines two male USB A plugs into one Micro USB B plug so that a USB 3.0 hard drive can use two USB 2.0 ports to have enough power. I had planned to use this to enable use of the hard drives with the Nexus 7 while traveling by plugging one cable in the tablet and the other into a charger.
When I got the cable I tested it by plugging one of the USB A plugs into my Nexus 7, and then I plugged the other into my computer's USB port. The Nexus 7 promptly shut down, the computer complained of a power surge on the USB port, and a distinct smell of melted plastic came from the computer's USB port. I guess the combining cable didn't combine so much as it just acted like a double headed male A USB cable and shorted things out?
The Nexus 7 refused to restart afterwards until I it plugged it into its charger. It works now, mostly. However, if its battery charge is above about eighty-seven percent then it always reports that it is charging, regardless if it is plugged in or not. And if I plug it into a computer while it is reporting that it is charging I have to restart the tablet to get it to connect to the computer -- I guess it thinks it is connected to a charger and doesn't bother checking for a data connection unless restarted.
The level where it stops thinking it's charging varies somewhat -- I've had it still claim to be charging all the way down to eighty-two percent charge, and by repeatedly opening the battery app over and over again I have been able to get it to notice that it's really not charging all the way up to ninety-one percent, but no higher, and I have to open and close the battery app an increasing number of times for every percent that it goes up over eighty-seven before it will notice it's not charging.
Any idea what kind of damage I'm looking at? How to fix it? Whether I can get the warranty people to fix it free of charge? If yes, whether they will send me a new one or just fix the one I have? Whether it's worth getting fixed since it mostly still works, and doesn't really bother me as long as it doesn't get worse?
Nothing?
Nothing from anyone?
Try replacing the internal USB plug? About $25. Easy to do your self.

Galaxy S8 charging problems

Hi! I'm new here.
Yesterday I got an used S8 in great condition... but, except charging the device, all is ok. When I plug it in, it says charging, but Charging (USB), and not Charging (AC), so that's why it takes about 3-4h to charge the device fully. When I plug it in to my laptop, it does NOT get recognized. It's only charging with a current draw of ~500mA. The charging port itself does not look like if it is having some bent pins or it is not filled with dust etc.
What could be the problem?
I can't root the device as it is not getting connected with the PC, I was hoping that I could increase the current draw to at least 1,5A with a custom kernel, but I don't know if a kernel like this exists for the S8.
Appreciate any help. Thanks in advance.

So, I ordered a new charging port. I hope it will work. As Odin does not detect the device, it's sure that the charging port is busted.
I'd try cleaning the port even it doesn't look too bad. I've had similar issues many times in the past and it's always been crap built up in the charging port even if it doesn't look that bad.
I'd scrap out all the crap in it with something just to be sure. Dirt, dust and lint build up in the bottom of the charging port and get compacted in there from plugging in the USB all the time. I use a threading needle and use the thread eye end to clean mine but you have to be careful. Best to use a non-metal device if you can.

Well, I did change the charging port, even then it still refuses to "fast charge". I don't know what to do now.

Cable replacement

it's been 4 or so yrs and the original red usb cable has been failing me a lot lately. as you know, cannot fast charge without it
it's just not snapping onto the port despite both the port and the plug being clean of debris.
do you know where i can get a replacement cable that can fast charge?
