Droid Turbo 2 Carrier unlock - Droid Turbo 2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm a VZW (USA) customer, and will be traveling to Germany this summer. I called Verizon on an unrelated issue, and while I was on the phone, asked them to unlock the phone so that I could use it in Germany. they (admittedly) new rep quickly told me that the phone comes unlocked, so I wont have any problems.
Is this correct, to everyone's knowledge? Droid Turbo 2 (a VZW brand exclusive) ships sim-unlocked? I guess I'm a little surprised by this...

Yes, it works with other carriers. Verified. But only on GSM networks.
Sent from my XT1580 using Tapatalk

So I can buy a Droid turbo 2 and use it on AT&T immediately? Has it been confirmed to work on all GSM bands?
Sent from my XT1095 using Tapatalk

yes verizon phones are unlocked by law, you can use it on att and tmobile on the states or any carrier that supports the bands worldwide, works here in mexico with telcel, movistar and nextel (at&t)

[Q] Is the RAZR M SIM Unlocked From The Factory?

Most of Verizon's world phones are SIM locked, and you either have to get it unlocked, or use Verizon's SIM card. I figured it would be the same for this phone. However, I read somewhere that the pre-release version is unlocked out of the box. I'm guessing by pre-release, they mean the one that was given to the press at the launch event.
Anybody know if all the Ms are unlocked from the factory? Specifically, what I'm after is to find out if they can be used on AT&T or T-Mobile in the US without any modifications. The earlier Motorola world phones needed modifications to do so, but it's worth a shot to see if this maybe is different. Just being generally unlocked saves a step, too, but if someone can provide the information on whether it is unlocked for US bands, that would be great.
I can confirm it does not allow calls using a US T-Mobile SIM. It does show the voicemail indicator and my t-mo # correctly in settings, but I think its just reading that from the SIM card itself.
Doesn't verizon unlock after 90 days good standing? I know for iPhones they do. Might be something I'll try in a few months.

Thanks for the info! I'm not sure if that is the typical behavior or not. I forgot what my Droid Pro did before I unlocked it.
Verizon usually does unlock it if you've been a customer for more than 90 days. They still won't let you use the US networks, though...just international ones. Hopefully P3Droid and his team will work their magic on this one. I know he already ordered a Dev Edition of the M.

It sounds like it is SIM unlocked since it's reading from the T-Mobile SIM at all. I believe all the Razr & Razr Maxx officially come as SIM unlocked from the factory, so I would guess the Razr M would too. It still has the network block for US GSM networks, but that's different than the SIM card.
I'm interested in getting the Razr M to replace my Droid Pro, so if anyone could confirm, that would be great!

That could be, and maybe it's just Verizon's policy these days, considering the iPhone 5 ships unlocked (and the iP5 has no US band lock, either). Hopefully someone can try it with an international SIM when they travel and let us know.
Now that a few people have gotten the Dev version in their hands, any differences on that one as far as the SIM unlock goes? Since Verizon doesn't sell that directly, maybe Motorola left the US bands unlocked on that one.
Is The RAZR M SIM Unlocked From The Factory?
Is there anything new on this?
Sim is Unlocked, it will read any sim but US-Sim seem to be Radio Locked.
Which u can bypass by an Aussie Radio. And then u can use it on T-Mobile or AT&T
I will be able to verify in 1-2 weeks if it will work on an International Sim with out any modification.
Sending my GirlFriend her Razr M to Germany so she can test it on O2.
Yeah, it's unlocked, and you can use it on T-Mobile and AT&T with the Australian radio, but nobody has been able to consistently get 3G on either carrier.
Does anybody test the phone outside of the U.S?
Any word?

I can confirm that everything works internationally, tried in Italy and Singapore. Also, the network in italy was on the 900 frequency band, so that works for sure, haven't tested 1800 but I don't see why it wouldn't work.
Does it mean that all models of razr m are factory unlocked? I know there are 3 versions of razr m XT905, XT907 and XT902. Just wonder if I can unlock my XT902.

Every US carrier should be selling the Moto X unlocked to start with; not sure about overseas (where it's sold). That's a pretty suspicious feedback pattern.

Yes. The VZW Moto X is capable of pentaband GSM with speeds up to HSDPA 42 - or 42 Mbps. Just no LTE outside of Verizon (well, I think it supports one of the T-Mobile bands).

Is Verizon S5 unlocked? Can it be used on T-Mobile?

Hey guys. Is the Verizon S5 CDMA + GSM?
Is it factory unlocked?
Can it be used on T-mobile with everything working correctly (LTE/4G)?

I don't know the answer to your question but I can confirm that the Galaxy S5 that I received from TMobile was in fact LOCKED.
I called the support # and was told that I had to have service and use it for 40 days before it could be unlocked.
I PAID THE FULL PRICE ($720 with tax)!!!
I asked to speak with a supervisor -- after 10 minutes on hold -- no change.
I told the store that I was going to bring it back because I didn't pay $700 for a locked phone. Everyone has been nice but it's locked for policy issues and not for technical reasons. I flew to Canada when I bought my iPhone4.
And, AT&T is worse -- one guy told me 3 months and tech support said it had to be active for 6 months.
>> So, my AT&T sim card is not working in my SM-G900T model.
It is GSM/LTE unlocked (as are all Verizon LTE devices), but I'm pretty sure it doesn't have T-Mobile's LTE bands (or at the very least it doesn't have all of their bands).
From what I have been reading, on a Verizon phone, calls and data using GSM and WCDMA bands would work. But LTE bands are Verizon specific hence would not work.
Tl; Dr Voice /data using GSM/WCDMA. No LTE.

Does this mean, once unlocked, T-Mobile and AT&T versions would work on each other's networks including LTE?
I also noticed that with S5, there aren't GSM carrier specific versions. Meaning they are going IPhone route with making all GSM phones enabled that for that country's LTE bands. Is that right reading?

I am using the verizon s5 on tmobile. It is unlocked and can be used on tmobile LTE. However there are only set modes. LTE/CDMA GSM/UMTS AND GLOBAL. Which means you can't use lte and gsm at the same time (no lte data and voice calls). I usually keep it on gsm, and when I need speedy data I switch it to lte.

How? If you put a TMobile SIM in the phone, or any other foreign SIM, it boots but receives no service. This is in line with almost all other Verizon branded phones (excluding Apple) -- where the phone works (unlocked) outside the US, but won't roam to ATT/TMo in the US.
Pictures please. For the record, my S5 doesn't register on a network with a TMobile or Australian SIM. The Australian SIM in a Nexus 5 roams to TMobile.

This was probably true about a year ago but the recent releases from Verizon, e.g. iPhone 5/5s and galaxy s4 has been fully unlocked world phones. I'm sure there are a few other phones... I think lg g2? I'm not exactly sure. But I have personally stuck my sim(T-Mobile) into my friend's Verizon phones (s4 and iPhone 5s) and they work right away after a reboot. Only problem might be an edit in APN for data and mms. Just sharing my experience, you should check out your phones again.

Not trying to be a jerk, but unless you tried this process in the actual phone in question, then you don't really know if it works. The phone DOES NOT just magically work on TMobile if you put a SIM in, you receive NO service. Now, I didn't go mess around with APNs -- typically those are only for MMS/Data. This is also true for several other phones:
Razr HD / Maxx HD
Galaxy S3
In the past, when the phones were SIM locked, a foreign SIM would prompt for an unlock code before the phone even booted into "normal" Android. That's not the case here -- because the phone is not SIM locked -- but I do believe it is network locked to VZW only when in the US.
For the record, I did try this in my S5. I will be going to Australia next week and will try a Telstra (or perhaps Optus) SIM over there to see what happens.

Yes, I haven't tried it on the s5, but I was pointing out fact that it does work on recent releases which someone confirmed worked on s5 by just plugging it in. I'm also correcting your statement " This is in line with almost all other Verizon branded phones (excluding Apple) -- where the phone works (unlocked) outside the US, but won't roam to ATT/TMo in the US." because Verizon apple does work in the US on T-Mobile and AT&T beginning from iPhone 5. I believe the 4s was still carrier locked.
I was a wireless agent not to long ago, so I know how these things work, not that it magically just works... I'm just sharing you how some recent releases from Verizon has been world unlocked and a few others have mentioned that they just plugged it in and it worked. So good luck and have fun in Australia.

OK Thanks.
It is odd that the apple phones -- and some of the Android phones -- are totally unlocked so that you can use them on ATT/TMobile in the US -- but some (like the S5, apparently) are not. I still am interested to know how some of the other users in this thread got their S5s working on TMobile...

I can confirm the Verizon GS5 is compatible with T-Mobiles LTE network I'm using one now with LTE all you have to do is go to settings mobile network and switch to Global mode some times you'll have to toggle LTE then back to global to get LTE to kick in.
I am able to successfully use my VZ Galaxy Note 3 and my wife uses her VZ Galaxy S5, both devices on T-mobile Edge, HSPA, HSPA+ (21mbps), and LTE (band 4) frequencies. These devices unfortunately will not do DC-HSPA+ (42mbps), but that's not a big deal for us because LTE coverage is good where we live. We have no issues with making voice calls, or sending SMS/MMS, and don't have to switch APN's or toggle between Global Mode or GSM/UMTS mode. We leave them on Global Mode with the correct APN settings.
Here's the guide I followed for both (with correct APN settings screenshots to accommodate for MMS on page 4 or 5 i believe):

It will, it's originally for Verizon lra partner carriers which run on same network types of Verizon itself. cdma and LTE band 13. Some features native to vzw may not work like VoLTE and stuff though.
Can you speak more on the price or how to get one of these @evilryry ?
Would love to get my hands on a non-bloated Play/Maxx if I could.

My carrier I work for, bluegrass cellular, does not sell phones to people who don't have lines of service with us. Can't speak for other carriers. This is a list of carriers partnered with Verizon under their lra partnership, who may carry this phone. Some carriers don't have it.
Bluegrass Cellular; Cross Telephone; Pioneer Cellular; Cellcom; Thumb Cellular; Strata Networks; S and R Communications;*Carolina West; Custer Telephone Cooperative; KPU Telecommunications; Chariton Valley Communication Corporation; Appalachian Wireless; Northwest Missouri Cellular; Chat Mobility; Matanuska Telephone Association; Wireless Partners; Triangle Communications; Nemont; Mid-Rivers Communications and Copper Valley Telecom.
Thanks for the lead @evilryry Looks like the prospects of buying one outright are pretty low after searching a few websites - I need to live in a service area AND sign up for service. It's no wonder they lock down what is nearly a perfect phone hardware wise to specific location services/carriers.
If you find a way to get one, please put me on the short list of people who really want one.

Droid Turbo 2 unlocked?

One of my friends is going to travel to usa, and i want to know if the droid turbo 2 from verizon is an unlocked phone because i live in argentina, i know that it has the same bands here. In willmyphonework says that is compatible.
If you're asking about SIM lock, yes it is unlocked. Personally tested with my SIM card using AT&T in roaming. As you probably know, Turbo 2 has limited LTE bands but has what's needed for Verizon. Also, Turbo 2 has locked bootloader. Moto X Force is usually better choice. The same phone just not for Verizon.
I am not interested in the bootloader, only if it has sim unlock, i know the bands that the droid turbo 2 has, in argentina there is only band 4 for LTE, and also there is band 28 but it is not necessary for work LTE where i live
Verizon hasn't SIM locked a phone since the very early days of them offering global phones. I'd guess that every LTE phone has been SIM unlocked.

You can buy in almost any Best Buy store. There are plenty of them everywhere. For example 1717 Harrison St,San Francisco, CA 94103. Or if you don't wish to go to the city, you can buy it in Milpitas, McCarthy Ranch Marketplace,63 Ranch Dr,Milpitas, CA 95035. You can buy without Verizon contract. Paying full price, of course.
Should also be able to get one from any VZW corporate store as long as you don't care about customization. Third party VZW stores may have them, but from what I've read, they typically don't sell phones outright to people.
I bought (and returned) it in best buy. Only disadvantage is that they have generic black.
So my friend have to say that he want the droid turbo 2 without contract and obviusly with the full price ($625)
