with locked bootloader and MM fully securised.........for sure !!!!!
and no possibility to unlock it for some looooooong time !!!!!! maybe NEVER !
no development are possible ! nothing !!!!! ........completely useless for XDA !!! this forum don't have to spend energy to create a section ..........pffffff !!!!!!!!
And with bad reputation of LG G4 with it's fragile hardware ,with all these bootloop and other .......... i think that too many people will change for others manufacturers ......

Yes and they supposedly move the buttons on the side.....
This is one good reason to jump in another OEM's wagon. For me back volume rocker was the first reason that pushed me to buy G2. And i was kinda disappointed with G4 when i got the hardware problems after 1 month.
Got to consider my next buy.

yes it's sure ..... users like ours are really a "minority" ...but there are much more users who "fiddle" their phone (who search for root,xposed,tweaks,customs.....) than we think .
and this future G5 will be the same as an Apple iphone and others Android manufacturers who will eventualy follow this full securities and locks .

The reason I bought the G4 was that I assumed it would be able to root, bootloader unlock and get a custom recovery for Custom Roms. Unfortunately I have the Verizon VS986 variant which only allows root. LG has been pretty stable and fast, maybe not as fast as the Motorola X Pure Edition which has the same specs but overall I am satisfied.
My contract extension isn't until 2017 so I'm pretty much stuck with the phone until then. I have alot of time to monitor and see who really is looking out for people like us that want full control of the phone and the Rom that is within the device.
..Sent from an XDA modified LG G4 on Verizon..

There's no point in buying a phone, if it's not possible to root and mod it. Period

s7 has rumours of a SD card if so back to sammy for me, root don't worry me my banking and a few other apps I need will not run on rooted device.
Sent from my LG-H815 using Tapatalk

Not bad. But seeing how the G4 is as simple as a phone can get and had quite a bit of issues. I can easily see the G5 being filled with even more with a design like that. Stacking the locked bootloader situation and security on top, probably a no go for me.
Sony is really looking like a good option for the future seeing how they're very developer friendly and provide some nice options for the type of phone you'll want. (Premium, compact, that other third one)

Hopefully HTC this year will make us a surprise for the flagship phone then I will jump back to HTC .

*100 Out of all the manufacturers I think HTC has had the right idea for a couple years. They just can't seem to get the camera right for some odd reason. But if the camera is only marginally better than the M9 there's no question where I'll be headed. G4 dev support is almost non existent and if I can't tinker than its no use to me.

An HTC with a very good camera, why not 12mpx Ultrapixels..., or a Sony with an Amoled screen and finally a good camera which can shoot in Raw. I like my G4, but screen touch problem is not professional at all and I don't have time to send it and get it back 20 days later... Not serious at all about what LG did. Imagine Apple with this kind of problem... And the G4 don't have fingerprint sensor, a big shame, but like I said, it's still a good phone.

Well, then the show is open for some devices with good dev-support. I'm ready to hear, because neither the new Nexus 6P nor Nexus 5X have that amount of development. And those are phones without any problem.
At the moment, there isn't any new "beloved by developers" phone, is it?

Umm let's head over to the S6, Note 5, even the dreaded M9 has way more dev support. And I'm pretty sure the S7, Note 6 and M10 will have more dev support. There is no one "beloved by developers" phone but it seems like we have a good candidate for most "hated by developers" phone. The G4 gets my vote.

HTC has amazing devices but has vastly ignored the camera which is a shame. The M9 is a beast and the only reason that made me not buy the phone was the lackluster camera. I just wish there was a way to confirm root, bootloader unlock and Rom compatibility at the time of a phone release but it's a gamble ultimately.
We will all see in a few weeks at Mobile World Congress 2016 Barcelona.

I'm entitled to a new phone July 2017, so roughly 1,5 years to watch the scene. The G4 has amazing potential, I kinda believe what we encounter is mostly software related issues. LG, still, is a very professional company and I doubt they'd pick suppliers who don't double check their hardware. But: After that, LG is dead. I don't understand why you'd wanna lock out developers. I mean, half the stuff of today's Android was made up by developers and hands down, there is some and I doubt it's only a small minority, who don't wanna wait forever till they receive a bloated update or even worse who have to hope and pray that their device will be supplied with updates in the future.

It's sure at 99.9% that the LG politic about security will not changed at all... it's getting worse ...
Phones are more and more highly encrypted, blocked securised ........because of very bad terribles hackers who want to steal all android users (datas...) ,that's known ...

EU H815 is unlockable. if G5 EU version is also unlockable i`m more then happy.
locked down provider phones on us market is another story but this is not a LG (only) problem. rate with your provider decision and / or buy free phones on the market!

yes ... all manufacturers will follow in this way ......
and "geeks" like ours will have less and less choice of phone ( otherwise we are forced to conform and and sacrifice by buying a phone like others standard users, never without root ,customs ,xposed ... but just the stock firmware )
The only way will be to buy a old second hand phone with developments........or pray that NEXUS will continue to be easy to hack and unlock .
the begining of the end ??? wait and see ...

Those Waiting for LG to Support Your Model for Unlocking Bootloader, Should Forget It

So...today I sent a mail to LG Dev seeing one other person here, and this is what they replied. I have posted the screenshot. WTF??? What do they mean by previous devices??? This device isn't even 3 months old Goddamn... very mad with LG. Regrets to leave HTC. And BTW where is written which one is newer & which one is older? How are we supposed to know that?? This is cheating....
Not cheating friend. They never promised to unlock your phone when you bought it. Believe me, I know it sucks...I'm right there with you waiting for an unlock myself. This doesn't surprise me one bit, honestly. I'm willing to bet that none of the LG phones sold by carriers will be unlocked by LG in the future either.

Yea I've already told everyone this 3 weeks ago.
I need to decide if I want to buy the G4 in exactly a month from now.
If it won't be unlocked until then, I would sadly wait for the Note 5.
Well that'll pretty much cement my decision to go back to HTC. I don't hate this phone, honestly. It's pretty good and I've had no real issues with it. But (and I'm not interested in arguing WHY I want BL unlock and root. I just do. It's my phone) if there isn't mfg support for the unlock, screw 'em.
Came to the G4 because the M9 camera sucked. I suspect HTC will fix that in their next release at which point I'll go back to a phone that I can unlock and root within 15 minutes of opening the box. Nothing against the G4 itself. It's a solid phone. But I won't be locked down, and while I respect the devs working on this and the work they do, I don't have the patience to wait long term for each LG phone I get. Thought I'd maybe move away from HTC entirely, but...guess not. Oh well.

I ALMOST got the M9...just couldn't get past the camera deficiency it has. It's not even a good camera by 2014 standards...and doesn't come close to the best of 2015. I'm willing to even say it isn't as good as the M8's (and possibly even M8. Problem with it is that this year's camera lacks both OIS (which M7 had) and the second camera for depth or imaging chip (which M8 had), leaving it with just a huge MP count and no hardware help to assist the sensor. Sure, software can do some adjustment, but it'll never be like having the actual proper hardware for the job. So while they will likely update the camera...many times, it is still limited by it's unfortunate lack of hardware assistance and isn't likely to ever match any of the other 2015 devices. Best hope from HTC is the "Hero device" they're talking about for this fall.
Either way, I'm gonna stick with LG till next year's flagship round comes out. Sure it sucks to wait for unlock and root, but I'd rather have the top end camera hardware. I use my phone as my primary camera, so I'd rather have bootloader issues than camera deficiency.

Same here, my phone is my primary camera, especially for vacations. And for the record my wife still has her m8 and my son the m7 and you're correct, BOTH of them take better pictures than the M9 does. We'll see about that hero device. I'm up for another JUMP upgrade in November (I'm grandfathered on the twice a year upgrade plan) so it's possible I could jump ship around then. Just have to see. Absolute worst case I pay this thing off and buy something outright. Dunno yet.
Back on topic though (sorry 'bout that ), my main issue is one of patience. It's probably my fatal flaw...as I said I KNOW it takes time to find and package (for money or free) a stable root exploit. Even longer to find a bootloader unlock exploit usually. This isn't the devs fault by any stretch. I'm just used to being able to quickly unlock and root my device...it's been a REAL long time since I've had to wait for root and finding that LG isn't planning to support an unlock is majorly disappointing to me.
I don't know why anyone would buy a carrier phone, and expect a factory unlock. That's what we have XDA for. Anyway, since we know the phone can be rooted, I'm hopeful that we will see a bootloader unlock, or work around as well. The phone hasn't been out that long, so you just have to have a little patience.

'Expect' no. 'Hope' yes. Plus remember I'm coming from HTC where they're unlockable out of the box. Didn't occur to me that LG would flatly refuse to do it. My own fault, but what can you do?

Well typically I'd agree with you, however this one's LG's decision. TMO doesn't have any issues with unlocked bootloaders. If it was Verizon or AT&T I might agree with you.

Ugh, HTC. I agree with you about their cameras. I started out with the M8 last year, but that camera sucked hard. My wife already had the G3, and when I saw that the devs were confident about rooting/unlocking, I got rid of the M8, bought a G3, and rode it out until it came to fruition.
Is there anyone here who work with LG? I need them to 'deliver' a message..
Here's the thing.. I started with LG G3.. it was a great device and I really love it.. specially the camera.. very nice quality.. and I absolutely loove the root on this thing.. I can switch ROM that I like and add other customization with root ability of course (xposed, adblock, etc..)
And there's the new LG G4.. basicaly an upgrade to LG G3 wich I found very significant upgrade from previous device, LG G3.. without hesitation I upgrade it right away (seeing my lovely expericence with LG G3 before).. But here's the thing.. altough is a wonderful device, I'm very.. very.. very.. very dissapointed they not releasing the root for my device (H818P).. If I known this sooner, I will NOT buy LG G4 and stick to my LG G3..
Soo my 'message' to LG is very clear.. release the unlock, or this is my LAST experience with their phone.. PERIOD.. I heard they are now preparing the LG G4 Pro next year.. well, if they still not releasing the unlock for LG G4, they can forget about it.. well at least from me.. I'm soo done with LG
Think you all have to be patient. There will be a developer who will get it unlocked.
At least I guess. Has there ever been a phone not unlocked?

I had both, so I was willing to stake my bet that both took better pics (though admittedly I've never had the M9).
I'm right there with ya on waiting sucks.....probably why I've never bought a device this early in it's "life". I usually get it after it's been out for a few months and has at least root.. I was in the unfortunate situation of my Note 4 becoming so unstable on 5.0 that it was hardly functional....would have to reboot 3-5 times a day average. Got the G4 because I couldn't take the idea of having an apple-looking device in my hand LOL

No unlocked bootloader means less development on custom roms

I'm not saying they don't care about you, but lets face it...they don't care about you. If you don't buy another LG, that's what....1 device per year? Maybe two. Consider this...we have what appears to a few hundred users on the G4 thread. We're probably not 1% of the total sales of the G4....and probably never will be. LG is going to look at "the masses" (aka people who don't xda, have no idea what root is, and wouldn't know what to do with unlock), which is like 99% of the users. They'd rather focus on the next update to the G4 or the next model they release, as if they can make it better than Apple or Samsung's next iteration of the smartphone, they can gain thousands of unit sales. Not to mention, this more than likely is a CARRIER driven situation than an LG driven one. Carriers don't really want us being able to remove their ads and other bloat....they worked hard to fatten our phones up!
I think it's a crazy situation that a carrier can decide that YOUR payed device is locked because of advertising bloatware.
Glad to live in a country with freedoms.

It's not because of carrier bloatware. It's largely because of warranty and support. 98% of the people out there aren't going to unlock the phone even if it's able to unlock.Frankly the carriers don't really care about those of us who want to unlock it...we're not a big enough amount of their revenue to matter. Which is why the carriers (well Sprint and TMO anyhow) will usually let you unlock. Like I said, this one isn't because of the carriers (aside from AT&T and Verizon probably). This is about LG not wanting to provide the unlock.

Upgrading to LG V10

I Didn't know where to put this thread so I am simply putting it here in general tab.
Do you guys think upgrading to LG v10 is a good idea?
thing sounds really cool except the processor (snappy 808) which is kinda making me think that its just not the time. Especially now that I know exynos chips are providing way better performance but I really like the features and all. Always have been a power user but ended up buying crappy devices. Every device had its down point somehow. Lg g3 has 2k too much for processor scenes and like that.
I don't want Knox so I don't wanna go down Samsung road if there is no development. After all XDA is what keeps devices newer even after 4 years :')
How many of you think/are considering that upgrading is a good idea?
They should wait with "Premium" device for new Snapdragons. Or atleast use 810 v2.0
That's why im waiting for 2016 flagships
Imagine how good the G5 will be, that's my next phone
The best time to upgrade to a newer device is at the beginning of a year. If you're thinking about buying a new device now, manufacturers are going to release their premium flagship devices in about 4 months.
This means that you'll be happy with a new phone now, but you'll want to swap it in 4 months. If you wait, you'll at least get a whole year on a really nice premium device, or if you're like me, 2 years so the upgrade actually feels like a big leap forward
Geme geme
Just Pre-Ordered the V10, Got the G3 on DAY 1 as well, so this will be a Leap Forward me...LOL

Knox is already in Lollipop..at least parts of it. Knox doesn't stop root or development. Locked bootloaders and DM-verity are what is killing Samsung Development. When the 2 biggest carriers in the US lock down their devices so as to make permanent root as of yet impossible, developers will leave for something else. Marshmallow will be even tougher. If you want a future proof device then you should look at Nexus devices. Otherwise wait and see how root and development turn out for the G5.
My lg g3 sucks at lollipop due to minor transition lags in notif tray and stuff, which i dont like. I will leave Lg asap
I am confuse about V10 position.
It is not a PRO like G PRO 2.
It is not a LG G5.
I will wait for LG G5.

Exactly , it's a good idea ....indeed

I was thinking seriously about getting the V10, and even went to the AT&T store to check one out. But considering the $700.00 price tag to buy one outright, I think I'll get the 32GB Moto X Pure Edition instead.

H870DS Bootloader workaround?

Hello,
So I got the H870DS version without knowing about LG's policy on bootloader unlocking so I was really disappointed when I learned that I can't unlock my phone.
A friend of mine got the European version and he doesn't care much about unlocking his phone and I was wondering if I could use his phone's id and imei to generate an unlock.bin file and use that on my device, my initial thought was that it wouldn't work because somehow the key should be unique to the device but still I wanted a second opinion on this just to be sure.

I understand that you have gravitated towards Android because it has the customization support, and we are all very happy to welcome you. But it is these kinds of posts that put off the developers. Please read the G6 thread and search for your specific model. If it is locked, it is locked. Sell the phone and buy a Samsung, or a OnePlus; or wait patiently for an unofficial workaround. I'm sorry for the post but I'm feeling desperate. I had the OnePlus One for 2 years and I loved it for the customization, different roms etc. I really like this device that's why I want to avoid selling and it doesn't look like LG has any intention of offering an unlocked bootloader for my device version
Well better do my homework next time I'm gonna buy a new phone.

Man, I feel you. Even I was about to order this literally yesterday. Then I saw that the support LG offers is not just pathetic, but non-existent. Are we supposed to think of their devices as flagships, when we aren't even getting full ownership of the device after paying the full amount upfront? This is the reason its rivals are doing much better, even after LG uses the "latest" tech.
Anyways, I ordered the OnePlus 5, and that will be my first Chinese smartphone. I am very skeptical about the OP5 as well, cause it is hardly a flagship (no expandable memory, no water resistance, no dust resistance, easily overpriced by $50), but what can you do?! The smartphone market is really pathetic since 2015. Consumers are so stupid and jump on the bandwagon like a bunch of sheep. I am coming from a Samsung Galaxy S4, and none of the smartphones have impressed me since 2013, except maybe the S8, which is way too overpriced by at least a $100!

From what I understand they don't offer bootloader support for the asian version because they're afraid that resellers may load bloatware or even spyware on the device before selling it and so you're sure you're getting a safe out of box software experience this way and I guess the majority of buyers won't care about unlocking it thus hurting more "advanced" users.
The OnePlus 5 seems decent although they have indeed overpriced it a bit for what it offers but I've held different OnePlus devices (One, X, 3) and their build quality is nice and the unlocked bootloader will prolong its lifespan by quite a bit through custom roms.

Yep, LG and its code of ethics has hurt developers and hardcore users big time. In one way I guess you have to agree to it as well, because it is indeed great to see a firm that cares about security and user information safety (unlike the OnePlus which blatantly takes user info, but can be avoided after installing a custom ROM, which is why we buy Android smartphones )
I am hoping to not think of any other device for another 2-3 years at least. If the new OnePlus that's coming out later this year or early next year is good then I'll definitely exchange the OnePlus 5 for that. Smartphone buying has become hectic!

He thinks my model being the Korean one is gonna show problems soon lol, oh and he has the white color which I really don't like because it makes the black line between the body of the phone and the screen noticeable.

no oreo update for the E4 & E4 plus?

so ive been reading moto will not be updating the e4 or the 4 plus to oreo. is this true? if so ill be getting another device, theres no excuses for this. i swear ever since levono bought them they have gone downhill. looks like no more moto devices for me. even a 4 year old iphone still gets updates.
Unfortunately the days of Google's Motorola is over.
As far as I'm concerned, they have completely abandoned the Boost Mobile variant. It's November and we're still on the May security patch... dafuq. But that's Android, no real rules. OEMs do as they like without any concern for their users. You kinda roll the dice when you buy Android phones. I have a 2 year old LG Stylo 2 that was patched in September with the September/Blueborne patch.
And if you're like me, and are concerned about support, security and longevity, buy an iPhone, I did (iPhone 6s Plus) and have not looked back. I buy Android phones to play with, nothing more.
id get a 6s but they are too expensive for the age. I dont need monthly patches but they could of at least gave 1 major update. im not in a finacial position to buy a high end device. looking into a nokia 6 or honor 6x. even those will get oreo. this will be my last moto device.
Boost was pushing these bad boys out for $39 for a while. So I didn't expect any updates. Grabbed the virgin mobile one for my wife, she loves it.
For security patches, there are a bunch of ROMs being built by amarc78. But no CDMA support yet (Sprint, boost, virgin) but gsm is a gold mine of up to date ROMs.

the phone is more than capable of running oreo, thats what upsets me. moto has done this too many times in the past. i know i have alot of roms to choose from but it would probably help the devs out to have official 8.0 roms and a kernel to work with.
Someone will make an Oreo ROM for this, its just a matter of time.
In mediatek version there is already one dev working on Oreo ...in a month or two Oreo will come out

If you use GSM sure, but if you use CDMA you're SOL.
But - IMO I don't believe we should have to resort to custom ROMs to have updated security. No matter the cost of your device.

well you are comparing the support of a budget line android with apple ...if you had a one plus five o samsung s6/7/8 Note etc etc you would have all sorts of roms and support comin at you from all sides
the moto e4 cost like 100$ max bro and that ain't what apple is charging
overcharges perhaps not then but they don't offer any phones at a price point i want to pay for a phone with closed sources and locked bootloaders
you certainly wont be flashing no custom rom on apple devices anytime soon .....the max you can do is theme it with some limited jailbreak apps

*no worries bro everything is cool*
it's none of my business bro but did you really think your actions through properly when you bought yourself an iphone 6 then give your kid ( who you love i presume ) a device you don't want cos you feel it's security is compromised ....just sayin bro
kids come first for me security wise ...i think with root access and various mods you can secure your android phone and that's part of the fun and why i spend time on xda ...
i used to have some ios devices like 3, 3g , 4 , 4s and then i got tired of having a phone that is always exactly the same style wise ...there have been improvements for sure but never for that price ...anyway i digress
enjoy your iphone bro its a good phone but i just don't understand why you gave your kid the e4 or why you didn't buy a good ( higher class) android device if you had the money to start with
or why you come back to moto e4 forum if you dont have that device anymore and gave it to your kid because of security concerns
i understand you are a themer but are you theming for e4 or android or apple
either way bro no offense intended . keep well and all the best but i still say if you compare price / quality and the open sources and unlocked bootkoader e4 is a good devive and for people on a budget buy one and join us to flash custom roms and have fun here on XDA . The more device owners the more support .........the phone is kickass for a phone of 50-100$...
it can do almost everything an iphone can just a little more slowly
peace :good:

Wait-a-sec, the Boost Mobile variant of the E4 is also a GSM-capable phone, and can be unlocked via unlock code, rooted, installed with latest custom ROM and security patch, and use with just about any carrier, right?

You're point being...
I'm trying to decide between buying the Boost Mobile version of the E4 or the fully unlocked Moto E4 off Motorola's website. If both can get Oreo that'd be great. The US-market E4 runs on Qualcomm, probably doable to make a custom ROM compared to the Mediatek processor
If it worth spending double on the E4 by directly purchasing from Motorola?

Oh - hmm, if you plan on unlocking and only using custom ROMs, I'd go for the Boost E4. But if you want to use both, OEM ROM and custom ROM, go for the unlocked.
EDIT: If you could afford it, go with the Moto E4 Plus. It's a much better phone than the regular E4.

IDK - depends on criteria. I like the removable (and easily replaceable) battery on the regular E4 along with lighter weight and higher PPI. Once you wander into E4 Plus territory might as well go for the G5 unless a wando sized battery is top priority.

[poll] Xiaomi A2 Future, is it dead or promising

So i bought this phone since it released in my country, i bought the 6Gb ram version and i was too excited about, Android one phone with great specs according to the price, but i am a lil bit disappointed right now,
The update releases is a bit confusing as we can see what's happening with pie updates.
The development is too slow as there no working twrp and related stuff.
Forgive my ignorance as coming from HTC M8 with its big development from its early stages , this phone disappointed me, but dont get me wrong i am happy with the phone regarding its battery life what annoying me a bit but the fast charger make it up to me.
So based on ur experience guys what do u expect guys and is the fourms going to be on fire soon or is it going to be like that all along ?
its going to be alive for sure, but you won't get first-class support, also for sure. this phone is good for people who are on a budget yet want to have a fairly up-to-date software (including security updates) and don't expect pixel-level support. If you are one of these people, A2 is probably one of the best phones you can get. But if you expect a pixel-level support then you should probably go buy pixel
It will get better, but don't expect anywhere near the support your old phone had, that was a flagship and a very successful one, I don't I've tried a quarter of the roms that were available for my m7
Yu are being given more than just descent specs for a more than descent price but no updates should be fast like google pixel ... well not gonna happen
Software r&d is not cheap as yu can see many here on xda develop on in there spare time and with donations and i dont think even though xiaomi have great revenue and sales they are yet ready to speed up the process (FOR ME UPDATES ARE ALREADY FAST ENOUGH EVEN NOW BETTER THAN MY SAMSUNG GALAXY S7 THAT WAS WORTH 49999 rs)
Moral of the story is = just because yu are given good hardware at a fine price dont expect them to give yu fast software support too ( only if yu have a pixel )
Otherwise apple phones get ios for really long time( enjoy there new emoji in every damn update )

Mates i didn't expect pixel level of support at all, it just i didnt think Android One phone would get low development and update like that,
I can run Android pie on my M8 which pretty old phone now, but u cant run it on my 2018 Android one device, does that make any sense to you mates ??
On the other hand pocophone got it's official TWRP and keep being updated while the price difference is t that much though.

Why the hell are yu guys quoting me when i am making the exact same point that yu made
This is a budget phone not pixel lile ( COMPARED TO MY S7 JUST TO MAKE A POINT and even if my s7 is a flagship it gets security patches at end of each month whereas this MI A2 Gets updated on start of each month and that too sometimes more than one update )
I used to use an OPO which had and to a certain extent still has a lively developer scene (It's been a few months since the first Pie popped in the forums for it).
I don't neither expect nor foresee that sort of activity over here. This is a mid-range budget phone.
Then again, at least, bootloader unlock is hassle free.

I came from an OPO myself. And kind of disappointed with lack of development for now. It's a new phone and hopefully it'll pick up. It's a good phone don't get me but it's a "meh" or "alright" phone after a few weeks. Definitely a forgettable phone. Feel like I should've gone pocophone fone (1)
