Have you noticed that the Cingular 8525 emits a boatload of RF interferance to almost any device? I've had various cell phones in the past, where leaving the phone too close to a speaker or TV would cause you to hear that occasional GSM/GPRS buzz sound. With my 8525 I can't even place the PDA on the coffee table without it getting into the TV's speakers. If it sits within 10 feet of our 5.8 GHz cordless phone base, we hear it OVERPOWER our home phone conversation. I can't place it too close to my computer speakers either or I'll hear it from the bedroom buzzing away. If I put it near my Sirius radio in the car (which is connected via line level RCA's), I hear the buzz in my car speakers.
If this thing is putting out this much more radiation compared to other phones and devices, what do you think its doing to your brain when you are using it for a phone call. Don't mean to open a new can of worms here, but has anyone had this device cause so much interference with everything? I just have to be careful where I put it, or the finance will scream and yell about not being able to talk on the cordless phone, or hear it in the TV. Her LG Cingular phone can charge right next to our cordless phone base station and you never hear a peep out of it.
This thing emits the buzzing sound quite frequently. I have MS Direct Push exchange e-mail set up, SPB Weather Plus getting updates, as well as an RSS Reader getting updates periodically. I have an unlimited data plan through my job.
Can't say I'd noticed this, more than other phones anyway. I think though your answer is in your second last sentence.

quotes for emphasis. THe buzzing is caused when the phone is in use, either making a phone call or more specifically when using the data part.
I have noticed it on my TyTN during boot, when the radio is initializing, but not otherwise. It does interfere with the stereo in my car when I am receiving email, SMS or when a call is coming in, but that's with any mobile phone (some worse than others).
Well I've had those old Nokia bar phones, a Motorola V300, a Nokia 6103, and my fiance's LG phone (with PTT). While they will emit the buzzing interference if really close to a speaker, tv, or radio, nothing comes close to the loudness and frequency of the 8525. I do understand this device goes out and communicates on the network much more frequently. It seems like it is a very strong radio though. Have to admit, I have more bars in the house than the LG flip phone.
Not nearly as much as my Treo 650
Occasionally I get feed back on cheaper (poorly sheilded) speaker sets - most notable is the baby monitor at home and this weird pair of speakers one of my clients has that, I'm not making this up, tunes in two FM radio stations simultaneously when they are turned off
My Treo, on the other hand, could announce my presence from 30 feet away on just about every small electronic speaker (ipod dock, alarm clock, PC speaker around). My wife finally made me relocate my charging station because the feedback on the baby monitor was disturbing the kids. So in comparison I'd say my TyTN is no big deal: then again I'm in Chicago running on HSPDA rather than EDGE and that appears to make a difference.
I would be concerned- I never used my Treo as a handset for obvious ergonomic reasons but Hermes is far more 'phone like' though I again just do bluetooth all day long.
Cypherstream- are you in a 3G or GRPS area? Mine actually makes less electromagnetic interference than my old s710a Sony. But when I force my 8525 into GSM instead of WCDMA it makes WAY more e.m. interference in my speakers. So I know what your talkin about but check and see if you have a G rather than a U.
Beginning to think this must be a GPRS-band thing that's particularly bad with HTC devices. And I mean they interfere with everything. They can make speakers roar and CRT monitors go crazy.
I recently switched from a Cingular 2125 to the 8525, but unfortunately didn't lose the "buzz". However, I was relieved to learn that my 8525 is as quiet as a mouse when running in UMTS (U/3G) or HSDPA (H) mode. In GPRS (G) or EDGE (E) mode, it's every bit as bad as my 2125, which topped out at EDGE (E).
So, no, you're not alone.
This is a problem with ALL GSM phones... once the 8525 switches into 3G (WCDMA) the problem goes away...
Well our area is GPRS. They don't offer 3G / UTMS towers where I live. Closest place is Allentown. I live in Reading, PA and work in Morgantown, PA.
Just yesterday the TV was buzzing. The phone was on the coffee table!
Just an update to this thread... I went out of town to Vicksburg, MS this weekend and there is only GSM available there (G icon). Anyway, I actually got a horrible nights sleep because of the GSM noise!! Anywhere in the hotel room you could hear it handshaking with the tower over and over (must have been on a cusp of two towers..) At about 5am I put it in flight mode, then two hours later some dogs went crazy and my wife and I drove back home.... Should have just turned the TV off, but for some reason I just didnt....
Speaker Feedback on DEVICE, NOT EXTERNAL
Mine goes into feedback mode whenever the unit checks POP mail. My sync from my exchange server is fine. But whenever it's pulling mail it does the GSM chatter dance.. and I'M NOT TALKING ON SOME OTHER SPEAKERS.. on the PHONE ITSELF! Absolutely unacceptable in my opinion, again the HTC's OWN SPEAKER will feedback on itself.. I was in a Kayak for about 4 hours on Saturday and the darn thing spent 10 seconds every 5 minutes just buzzing and squalking it's heart out.. and there wasn't an unshielded speaker except the one in the phone.. for miles and miles...
Hey guys, awesome forum here and sorry to bug you lot with a problem but I've had my relatively brand new Orange M5000 since around November 06 and I used to use it heavily as my iPod replacement. Now the headphone port is playing up, but I know it's DEFINATELY not the earphones because they work fine with my iPod and my computer. I have to twist and press the headphone about in the port in order to get proper sound otherwise I only get certain frequencies, it loses volume, switches ear to ear, or sometimes switches to the main speakers on the phone.
Living in London, my iPod eventually got stolen 2 days ago (lol, after 2 and a half years of ownership, I suppose I did well!) so I would really like to see how to get this working again. Is my best bet to open this up and give it a proper look? My dad is a fairly good electrician.
Hey guys!
My HTC HD2 is showing some strange behaviour lately. When I go cycling and turn on some music with the music tab (earpieces plugged in (creative ep-830)), it starts switching songs and even switching in to like 1.30 of a different song all of a sudden. Plus it starts calling people all of a sudden. It could be my pocket, which could be thight but I'm afraid not. When I go jogging I'm wearing wide training pants which give absolutely NO pressure on the phone but still it starts calling people and switching songs or in between songs. Could this be because of the accelerometer or something?
I hope somebody recognizes this problem and is able to assist me.
Thanks in advance!
Any help guys?
Come on, surely someone must know a solution?
I don't know a solution, but I've had the problem and found the following helps.
face the screen away from your body. it seems that body heat can activate the screen. I find that in a suit jacket having the screen facing towards me can cause the problems you indicate.

Hmm, I'll try this out, but also I've had it in a bag once like this: http://www.essaco.com/images/product/images/11576.jpg , but it showed the same behaviour. I'll try your solution because I indeed always have the screen facing towards my body.
Thanks for your help! I'll report the results soon!
Im also having this situation.. Very annoying, the HD2 just calls people. It's a bit expensive for me now, as it happens really often.
I just got it last week, and now it does it often.. :S
its not the screen guys, its your headphones. the remote-control connectors in the plug input is receiving some signals it shouldn't. try wearing a different set of headphones and see if the problem is still there.
I had also same problem on one of Energy ROMS. Strange thing was that it occured ony when my headphones where connected.
Once when i changed them into HTC ones and installed never energy rom problem dissapeared

Only seen with some headphone plugs and not all. If you make sure they are well fitted in, and clean the contacts as well as you can, you should be able to make them work (happened to me once with a pair which wasn't used for long - oxidated contacts - and a car radio cassette adapter's plug which wasn't fitted all the way in). If you can't you just need to try another couple of headphones.
by the way, this also happens when the headphones are inserted or disconnected from the device... would be nice with a fix to disabke the remote control input completely!
So I have an audio out cable in my car, and when I have pandora or slacker radio running it skips half of the song, or my voice dialing starts up and my music stops. Really annoying.
I don't hit anything on the screen, or any buttons... It does it on it's own.
Anyone having this issue?
Anyone have a way for me to fix this?
Mine does the same thing, only reason I won't buy Pandora for more hours. Always tries to do it's 6 allowed skips. I've even had it try and dial someone. Only thing I've found is turn off the screen, don't use blue tooth, and that seems to help...after the 6 skips!
I use slacker and I have not experienced any issues like that. It actually works flawlessly for me unlike the other streaming radio apps that rebuffer constantly.
I have almost everything disabled on my phone except 3g to maximize battery life.
I use Pandora with the radio out cable in my car and I have noticed no issues other than the normal buffer issues I have when driving through areas with low signal strength.
I played Pandora for more than two hrs last night and it worked perfect
my wife and i both have the htc incredible and i know exactly what u guys are talking about. cause my wifes phone does the same thing. but "knock on wood" mine doesnt do it. when we have it plugged into the car jack it does all sorts of strange things. and she had told me about it and i laughed at her and said ohh u just dont know what ur doing. but i saw it for myself this weekend. and so i tried mine and it was fine.. so i dont know if its some setting or app thats causing this issue or its a hardware issue. but if someone knows the answer please let us all know.
What's happening is there are 4 contacts in the headset jack... standard on a phone, but different from a regular mp3 player. Shorting some of the pins together is how the phone works with a headset that has a button in it.
The cable is likely not getting a great connection, maybe its not plugging in all the way or something... Whats happening is that occasionally it is shorting out and then not shorting, which causes it to think someone pushed the button on the cable... Maybe try taking the back cover off and then try it, see if it still happens...
Another thing it could be is if the back cover isn't quite on all the way... the first ring of the cable is attached to the back cover, then from the back cover to the phone through that metal ring in the cover... maybe its a bad connection there... but easiest to test with the back cover off.
Ok, so for an update (a little late i guess)
I called Verizon, and it's covered under my 30 day worry free. I'm going to be getting a brand new phone, so hopefully it doesn't have the same issue.
is there any way to disable the voice dialing, or any type of commands that are sent from that shorting portion of my line-in area? I just don't want to uninstall the voicedialing.apk
Maybe a little more help for you
I was going to mention the same about the cable control connections, but here is somthing else that might help: I noticed that my plug has a rather large outer rubber jacket that is interfered with by the car cradle, a plug with thinner or maybe shave yours down so it does not rub the car cradle hole will help.
Yep, I HAD this problem, then noticed it was doing it while playing mp3 also. Then I noticed whenever I moved the cord it would start acting up. I plugged in my head phones and Pandora/mp3 everything worked so I bought a new audio cord. It now works perfect!
i think you guys are all on the right track with this issue. cause i was in the car for a while this weekend "heading to disney" and i was messing with it some more on my wifes phone and i noticed when i plug her phone into the headphone jack. it shows a icon on the top of her phone as if it was plugged into a headset. and when i plug mine into the same cord it just shows a headphone icon.. but like it said her icon looks like a headphone with a mic on it.. so i think vilord is on the spot. im going to have to go home tonight and try my wifes phone without the back cover on it and see if it works. if it still is messed up then im thinking its just a faulty headphone jack in the phone. but she doesnt want to take her phone back cause she doesnt want to have to reinstall all her stuff on a new phone.
Poor Audio over Bluetooth, Poor overall BT reception.
I thought it was my device and sent it back to google, they sent me a replacement and it has the same issue, if im streaming music to any device (Headphones, Speaker, Car Stereo) and cover the top of my phone its like im almost going out of range and the audio goes choppy or off, remove my hand and the audio returns to normal. Google said they have never heard of this issue before and are convinced a third device will solve the issue, i doubt it unless they have a revision 2 model.
Its not just audio, i have a watch that gets notification on the go, same thing, if the top gets covered my watch often says disconnected, take the phone out and within 20 seconds it reconnects.
Clearly there is an issue with BT on this phone, no software update (inc. N preview) addresses it, google seems unaware or uninterested in the problem, i would have addressed it a long time ago but i have been holding out for a fix before i realised how easy it is to replicate the problem.
I also have issue with it. I pair my headphones Phillips Tapster and all I hear is non-stop choppy sound(every few seconds a spike). In the beginning I thought my headphones were giving problems, but it is not the case, becase I have a few other Androids and all work fine. So it is the 6P.
Unfortunately I couldn't find a solution which I can share. I only can share what won't work in my experience:
- Factory reset(wipe);
- Return to stock if custom ROM is used;
- Changing ROMs;
- Killing all other apps except the one which uses the device currently;
- Switching off other communication services like wi-fi;

I can confirm this.
I get this as well. I can't put the phone in my pocket if I use Bluetooth headphones. I've tried different headphones, both factory M and N preview.
Mines not that bad. It used to stutter every minute or so but I turned off Bluetooth/WiFi scanning and fixed that problem. But now it just decided to start getting all staticy when the screen is turned on. Either by me text or phone calls. Haven't figured out why it's only happening at that time

What happens when you cover the top of your phone with your hands, does the audio start cutting out?

nothing happens at all. no change in sounds, no stuttering in play.
I did another FDR the other day. got everything installed again turned off wifi/bluetooth scanning and wifi itself (since im not at home) and works perfect. no skipping or stuttering at all. even the 5 seconds of stutter is gone when the screen turns on. hopefully it stays this way

I have the same problem on my car sound system (mazda 2 2016). I found a solution. I turn on the N6P bluetooth before turning on the car system (in my car it turns on when I turn on the car at the same time). When I have the N6P's bluetooth on before turning on the car I have a good conection at 100% of the times. When I forget to turn on the N6P's bluetooth before turning on the car I have a bad conection at 50% of the times.
I hope this could work on your sound systems.

I have tried 3 replacement phones and each time I speak with Google they inform me that they are not aware of any BT issue. Bull****! I can't wait to get rid of this phone. I have the same issues you have related to BT.

Thanks but i rarely turn off BT, its always available but i did go and try combinations of having it off or on pre connection and no difference, still my phone acts like the BT signal is too weak if i move around.

Thanks for confirming, im not holding any hope on the 3rd replacement either, I have had a lot of nexus devices over the years and this BT issue is unique and driving me nuts and really making me think twice about the new upcoming replacement in Q4, especially if its made by Huawei. Ive also noticed the chassis has started to buckle near the volume buttons.
well for some unknown reason the stutter when screen comes on came back. worked fine on bluetooth all weekend. then this morning i go to use my LG 850 BT headphones...and bam...stuttering. maybe LG pissed off Hauwei and they decided to cause issues with all LG items hahahaha

Apparently all CM based ROMs has the stutter issue when screen is turned on when streaming, something to do with the AudioFX, im back on AOSP ROM, no issue with screen on but still have issue when covering the top of my phone or putting in my pocket. sux.
