Everything explained in this thread
You have to remove the chip from your sim card and place it on your SD Card
Has anybody ever tried this method? As I think doing this could possibly damage your SIM card.
i tried to create this "sandwich" too, but if i had compared my first product with the very tiny slot, i have stopped development until now. A sandwich like this isn’t so necessary for me.
This is not my post, but you can see there some pics about the way you have to go then:

I suppose anything not strong enough will avoid the correct contact from the card reader. From my small experience (only made it twice) the SIM position is crucial and a slight misalignment is enough for malfunction.
So:
1 - You have to make the SIM really thin to fit the SIM tray with the microSD, thus "destroying" it for future reapplications.
2 - The microSD is easily reused, just by gently and patiently removing the SIM and glue remains. Also, no metal part from the microSD is harmed.
You can always ask for a SIM replacement or a twin card. I have 2 with the same number and I can do all there is to do with either one.
I don't care about destryoing my sim card it can be easly replaced, worry about microsdcard if I glue a sim card to it how can I remove it in future ? Supeglue is kinda strong
Has anyone had an real success with this? I've separated the SIM contact from the plastic backing and removed any excess. I've trimmed all excess from the SIM contact (so no overlap with the tray) and have temporally stuck the SIM contact to MicroSD card with double-sided stick tape but no matter what I do I cannot get the SIM tray to slide back into the phone because the combo of the MicoSD + SIM contact is too thick. I even tried it without double side tape to see if if would go in but still no joy. Anyone got any ideas because there's seemingly nothing left to remove from the SIM contact or MicorSD. BTW, I'm using Vodafone UK SIM and 64GB Samsung MicroSD.
yes it's working for 5 month now. it's really Hard to get the sandwich into the Phone but it works and can be removed. if anything except the sim chip is removed You have to glue it on the sd. all other isn't strong enough and is too fat. Small drop off glue is enough and the sim can be removed from sd with cutter knife. tested it and sim and sd still working fine... Bend the edges from the sim a little down before gluing it so they don't jam up in the Phone

OK, now I have a big problem. I glued the SIM to the MicroSD using a tiny bit of thinly spread glue and the SIM stuck fine. I then tried to install the MicroSD/SIM hybrid into the phone and it was very tight. I g and jiggled and it JUST went it in with a firm press. The phone recognises the SIM but can't see the MicroSD so I've come take it out and try again but the SIM tray is stuck inside the phone and will not come out. I thought about removing the rear casing to help with this but the screw holding the case is behind the lip of the SIM tray. I have no idea what to do next!!
Would really appreciate some help on this.

I actually managed to release the tray with pliers and a strong thin nail pushed very hard into the release hole. It came free by a fraction of a mm, just enough to get a modelling knife edge into it to prise it open.
I've measured a few other MicroSD's and there are differences in thickness by +/- 0.1mm, which may well be enough to stop the hybrid card going in altogether. My Vodafone UK SIM was also very very slightly domed, not absolutely 100% flat.
The upshot of this is that it's imperative to check that the combined thickness of your SIM plate and MicroSD card will go in happily. I actually tried them together into the tray without any adhesive whatsoever and even this felt a very tight fit. I figured I'd stick them together and see if I could waggle them in - no I couldn't, of course it was even tighter.
This is a precautionary heads-up for anyone who thinks this is a simple and easy solution. In principle it is, in reality it can be a huge pain in the ass. Lesson learned.

I noticed the MDA Compact isnt listed, but I wondered if anyone bought and used it succesfully anyway
I have one very similar to this, which was bought for my Ericsson T68i- fitted nicely in there. Tried it on my JAM and no joy- the battery would not fit at all.
I believe some people have got it to fit (may be a another type).
Another option that I have seen is where you 'cut' the two sims and then they fit into a single size sim holder in any phone.
I really dont want to cut it :S
Yeah- i didn;t bother with that option. It supposed to be safe to do- as long as you purchase the dedicated cutters (!). They also provide you with a single sim adapter so the 'cut' sim can be use as normal. Gets too expensive though.
Im sure there was a thread here on this forum where dual sim adapter was the subject- try a search and see what comes up.
Also, you may want to check this link out for switching between sims:
http://www.wivit.com/products/SSS.shtml
... to be released very soon.
any able to fit this adapter into their XDA?
bump!
curious to know if this thing actually fits or is gonna waste my time and money...
and no.. i aint want to cut the phone! in any way.... drastically that is...
I've bought this one:
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=6414061281&ssPageName=STRK:MEWA:IT
This requires you to cut the sims; this was straight forward.
Some people say it doesn't work with UK 02 monthly sims; I have one, and an Orange PAYG, and they both work perfectly in the Magician.
It took quite a lot of repositioning of the little cut sims - the multisim works perfectly in a nokia because it puts pressure on the back of the sim to keep it in place. The magician only puts pressure on the very edges of the Sim, so I stuck a tiny bit of blue tak under the metal cover that covers the mini sims, to bulk it out tiny bit, and it works perfectly.
There are apparantely other very similar products eg
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=67966&item=6416678468&rd=1
that use the "STK" menu (sim tool kit) to allow you to switch sims without switching to flight mode and back. However, I've read a review that says such STK cards suck power more quickly than the others. I can't comment - mine doesn't seem to use the STK menu, but it doesn't really bother me.
I also think that when ebaying, unless you expressly search for an STK card, you will get one that doesn't use it.
So: cutting is no problem, just measure twice, cut once etc.
Requires a lot of careful positing in the Magician, so it's best to have a spare phone (eg a nokia) to test it in to ensure it works first, so you know the problem isnt' the sims.
Also, hah hah, I found that removing the battery from the magician for more than a few minutes coursed a hard reset, of course, so ensure you backup before doing this procedure cus you'll have your battery on and off throughout.
Good luck y'all!

are you able to post up pictures?
it would describe a thousand words!
i'm simple.. so cutting the SIM? (in what way)
and also with the double sim... there is no room at the mini backplate to store another SIM there...
pictures will definatley help greatly.
I'm afriad I can't post a picture of the MultiSim - I'm afraid to take it out of my phone!
The device is safe (in the phone), it's just that the Magician doesn't put much pressure on the top of the sim, only the edges (it slides in on "rails") so if I remove the battery I think I will loosen the contacts slightly. It works perfectly in a Nokia, and perfectly in my Magician, but it took a bit of trial and error and a tiny blob of bluetak underneath to keep the mini sims in place!
Have a look here for pictures:
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=6414061281&ssPageName=STRK:MEWA:IT
Basic theory: you know the size of a normal sim, about 1cm high, 2 cm wide? Well, only a tiny bit (about 1cm x 1cm) contains the "chip", so you are supplied with templates that you stick over the full size sim, and then you trim it down. I used normal scissors and sliced carefully, a few mm a time to ensure I didn't slip and dice the chip!
But, follow the sticky template and you should have no problem.
Bare in mind, and don't be alarmed, but you WILL cut through some of the gold contacts! That's ok, they're there just for symetry, not function.
You get something called a "resume" card that allows you to reinsert your mini-sim into a dummy and use it as normal as a single sim - that works fine.
One tip that stopped my heart for a second: you stick the sticky template on, cut down the sim, and then DON'T forget to remove the sticker after! You can't see it (stuck to the tiny gold contacts), but of course you have to remove it
You will have no troubles if you carefully align the template and snip carefully. The guy on ebay will cut them for you using a "stamp" for free, but you have to send your sims to him.
I think it's only worth about 50p of circuitry, but he was the cheapest i found on ebay. I've posted another guy's ebay as well, but remember, STK will allow you to swap sims without switching to flight mode. Mine doesn't do this, but i just switch flight mode on and off to do the same thing. takes 20 seconds.
post again if you need more guidance!

i know with the previous dual sim adapters... if you LOOSE coverage sometimes the sim would switch providers...
1. has the auto switching of SIM due to loss of coverage ever happend to you??? and..
2. (just of curiousity) how do you know which provider you are on WITHOUT checking the status via the RECEPTION/ FLIGHT MODE icon at the top??

Now that would be cool.
jimjamz - sorry for taking so damn long to reply to your question!
I've been away during September, but I don't know how I missed it for SOO long.
I wrote my own today plugin that you can see at the top of the screen here:
The O2 graphic is a graphical representation of my current operator - o2. It also shows graphics for my other operator, Orange. If there's any other operator it shows the name of the operator or flight mode status.
Wivit's is a good choice otherwise

Vijay,
Will you mind if you can share this today plugin with others on forum ??

Yes, can u share it?
Guys,
I've got no ADSL at home, my ISP has screwed my line for a few days, but once it's back up I'll try to send a copy to anyone who PMs me (I'm at work now).
I'm not posting it generally on the board because it's not perfect or finished yet, so I don't want too many people complaing about it etc

Thanks Vijay, nice app.

Has anyone taken their Omnnia 7 apart yet to see if you can replace the microSD card with a higher capacity one?
It's been done on the HD7 so we need a brave volunteer to try the same on the Omnia.
This is really intriguing to me... if anyone does it please take lots of pics!

No, not a normal slot.
In some mobile phones with windows 7, the MicroSD is hidden inside.
You cannot access without unscrewing, and it voids the warranty.
The phone must be taken apart into pieces to find the MicroSD, it is not one you just change for different music all the time!
We need a person to volunteer to take apart their phone!

exFAT disk format maybe?
I have an Omnia 7 testing device and I am willing to disassemble it. But I really don't know where to start with this. Seems that the phone can be disassembled only with special tools that I don't have...
Omnia must have a slot like the HD7?
Got this from a link (I am a new user: so can't post links yet: here's a goo.gl/Vi0e)
While the Omnia 7 has an microSD slot, it isn’t your run of the mill one. The microSD card that comes with the device is essentially locked to the device. If you remove the card, it will make the phone inoperable. I did read a tip that this may change later on, or if you swap cards and reformat then you have to suffer with losing your data, but that hasn’t been officially verified yet. Also someone will probably figure out a hack or way to copy the formatting scheme over to a new card to avoid losing your data, so don’t fret too much about this.
Just got delivery of Samsung Omnia 7.
I'm trying to open it up but I can only get access to 1 screw..the other ones are partially or fully obstructed!
@karthikraman - there is no card locking going on and upgrading memory is fully supported by MS. It just has its own special procedure and consequences. Too many tech writers have been reporting this as if it's some kind of hardware hack special to the HD7. Nonsense, as I said it's supported and designed to work that way.
Manufacturers have decided to hide the cards inside. Maybe they thought that was safer so that people didn’t swap in new cards and complain their phones had stopped working or, if they did the hard reset, that they had lost all their data.
Anyway, all we need to know is whether we can get to the SD card in the Omnia 7 or not. If we can the upgrade ought to work.
@lvoky - Can you post pictures or describe what tools you need?

Well, I can post some pictures later, but generally, as hboos mentioned, the screwes under the battery cover are partially obstructed with the rest of the phones casing... Which means that before unscrewing these, the casing has to be somehow removed. There are no other screws on the phones body, so I guess the plastic top and bottom part of the phone has to be "unclicked" somehow. Or maybe we have to begin from the display, like with iPhone 3G for example...
OK, I have got it apart, but haven't found the SD card yet.
Where the slider is for the USB charger, use a small screwdriver & gently prise the plasic up (with the slider open), gently work your way around to get the complete cover off.
There you will find three screws, once these are rmoved the end will come off, after which you can slide the metal case off. You can then access all the screws.

Taking it apart just now!
Just for clarity...to take the first bit off, open the usb slider and put a screw driver in to take off the plastic from the END of the phone... then everything is easy from there.
is it possible for the microsd card to be underneath the sim card slot or inside the area with the antennae?
Update:
I've pretty much dismantled the whole thing...just need to get the screen off and I can't seem to locate teh sd card.....it might be underneath the samsung sticker?
I have two photos but don\t knoiw hwo to put them up...they are 1.5 mb in size
Right guys,
After faffing around with this...the microSD card must be located just beneath the screen..unfortunately, I am unable to check for sure because the board has connections glued on to the sides for the power, camera and volume buttons..
what a downer

HTC, and maybe Motorola, is known to use microSD card for internal storage in various phones. Samsung, on the other hand, doesn't do that normally. All the Galaxy S phones have flash chips mounted directly on the circuit board. Samsung makes those flash chips, so it makes no sense for Samsung to use someone else's microSD cards.
Nice try and thanks for giving it a go.
Here's more info on the official position from MS:
http://windowsphonesecrets.com/2010/10/29/microsoft-speaks-on-micro-sd-and-windows-phone-storage-expansion/
I said on an HD7 thread that I think they are just being really careful and making sure they minimise potential problems - they don't need the launch to collapse with any Apple-antenna type bad press.
I think I've decided to go for an HD7 and will probably upgrade the memory once I've used up the 16GB.

Well on the bright side at least we wont have the memory failures prominent in SD-cards Charlie Kindel spoke about.
Sooooooo, I replaced my internal sd card with a 4gb class 10. I used the "cut away the plastic" covering the card method because I was too lazy to take the phone apart. Now the phone will not turn on. Tried placing the original card back in......still nothing. Plug the phone in and I get a battery symbol with a yellow triangle and exclamation mark. Any thoughts?
I pried up the one edge of the piece of plastic that I removed which was close to the contact for the back cover, so maybe I messed up that contact and the phone thinks the cover is not on there? Was there not a fix for the Streak to eliminate the need for the back cover to be on for powering up?
Any help is sincerely appreciated since I now have no phone, which is clearly not going to be warrantied. Congratulations me
Don't know if this helps because it requires what you didn't want to do - take your Streak apart. But a quick look at that tutorial and it seems that the 'switch' for the back cover is not near the internal sd card, so perhaps your problem is something different?
Did you do a reset from the recovery? I believe that you need to di that to initialize the new sd card?
There are a few threads here and at MoDaCo dealing with the replacement of the internal sd card, more reading may be in order.

The innerSD is the black square in the top right corner, slightly to the top and right of the sd card picture (that is the outerSD slot)
The battery cover switch is near where the greenish square in the bottom left corner.
It's possible he might have damaged a trace that connects the switch, but it seems a bit unlikely for it to run exactly where cut and also happened to be the only trace damaged.
You could try installing streakdroid as it ignores the batt cover switch, assuming that's the only issue

The inner SD Card is just a 'normal' micro sd card, so yes if you remove it you can put it in a card reader.
Whether making sure that the inner card is working properly it will fix your problem is unknown.
If you have not taken your Streak apart I recommend cutting the area above the inner card to remove it. I have done this to two Streaks with no issues. YMMV.
Thank you marvin,
Ill try it tomorrow, hope it will fix the device.
Sent from my Dell Venue using XDA App
The innerSD is formatted in ext3, so you'd need to be able to read ext3 partitions if you wanted to examine it's contents
A few days ago I used TheManii's guide for flashing an image to the innerSD and it went off without a hitch, and solved a small error I was getting when booting into recovery. So if you want to eliminate a variable, I would highly recommend that so you know it has nothing to do with your problem
So this is my attempt to give back to the huge amount of help I received on this forum
TL;DR:
After a few different kind of attempts, this fixed the problem for me: the reflow of the SIM connector and the IC described at http://forum.gsmhosting.com/vbb/f25...already-change-sim-reader-1780363/index2.html . There are a few different things that can cause the NO Sim Card and SIM Card removed problems. In my case it did not start happening after events like upgrades or changing the firmware. It was also initially happening only once or twice a week.
Long story:
I have a T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S4 (SGH-M919). I started having problem with the "SIM card removed" once or twice a week. It was a little annoying and I read about it online. Tried a few software solutions but they did not work.
I read somewhere to try to replace the SIM card and that is what I did. That made things worse... after T-Mobile replaced the card I start having the "no sim card" problem. At the T-mobile store they told me that I would have to send the phone in for a repair... well, out of warranty changing the motherboard could be $300 that is more than how much you pay for the whole phone used on eBay... I asked to restore my old SIM card but the person there told me that they cannot do it :crying: :crying: :crying:
After a little bit of cleaning the new SIM, plug it out and in a few times, the phone actually started recognizing the SIM card but it took only a few minutes before I got the "SIM card removed" modal on the phone =/ The problem just got a lot worse and it was happening every other hour...
Apparently if you read online there are a few things that can cause these errors. Only one seems to be software and it happen on SIM cards that have a pin when you update to Android 4.4.2 (I think) and it was fixed on 4.4.4. You usually know why this happen because you just run an update. If this is the case for you, I would try to work on the ROM/modem firmware. Otherwise it is probably a hardware problem.
There definitely may be different problems that create the SIM card error. You never know. The faster solution is replace the mainboard. Apparently there are people that write in the forums that even this did not work for them.... not sure what the cause of the problem can be there.... it is quite weird.
I spend a lot of time reading here on XDA and other forums. I finally started doubting that it was a software problem and eventually landed on this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OHQaQVLV1U8 - I bought a new SIM/SD card reader on ebay for $7 shipped. I replaced it in the phone. You need to be careful but if you have good sight and some basic phone repair tools, you can do it. I tested before reassembly of the phone. It works ! I reassembled and I got again the "No SIM card" problem :crying:. So I just wasted my time and $7 with no improvement. I read somewhere about a guy that fixed the problem putting duck tape on the SIM connector. It was a problem with a component not fully attached, it may actually work. I tried to put a 3 layer of little rectangular pieces of painters tape on the connector. That helped a lot. I was never getting "NO SIM card" but every now and then I was still getting the "SIM CARD removed" modal. I suspected that since that extra pressure on the connector was improving the situation, the problem could have been that the connector on the motherboard was not solder properly anymore.
I eventually found these 2 threads:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2375982&page=23 (on page 23 there is a guy that talk about re-heating this chip) and http://forum.gsmhosting.com/vbb/f25...already-change-sim-reader-1780363/index2.html (on the second page there is a guy that talk about reflow of an IC).
Anyway, I went to one of the local co-working spaces that has soldering stations with hot guns etc. I solder in the past but in these days phones have extremely small SMD components and it is extremely easy to mess everything up. So unless you are or you know somebody that is very good at soldering, do not do it.
I found a guy there that was willing to help. We prep the board with aluminum tape so we could protect the other components. Only the IC and the SIM connectors were exposed. We did reheat once with the hot gun with low airflow and 300 degree celsius spending less than 10 seconds on the board. It seemed that worked but after 1h I got the "SIM card removed" modal again The whole disassembly + preparation is a pain in the neck but I did it again. We reheated again spending a little bit more time on the IC (20 sec) and a little more on the SIM connector on the board (after shielding the IC). After cleaning some residue of glue left by the aluminum tape, I tested again. So far it is working. Fingers crossed!
An update on this. The problem came back. I was able to restore the old SIM that mitigated the problem.
I did more reheating and resolder the SIM connector. Everything was good for 1-2 week and then back again. Now it also restarts randomly.
The most likely cause are:
Cold joint that cracked.
Some edgy transistors in a IC
Cracked track on the motherboard
The first problem may be fixed with reheating (reflow) or better reballing (but for this you need good soldering skills). If the problem is the second one heating ICs up can make things edgier
The second problem definitive solution requires a new IC (after you identified which one it is defective). This also requires even more soldering skills.
The third one can be fixed by replacing the motherboard =)
So far I am dealing with it tolerating one or two reboots a day and one SIM card removed message. When I am more courageous, I will reflow the whole motherboard in a toaster oven hoping that it does not burn it forever. At the time I will be also ready to buy a new phone...
My issue may be different
I was having an issue for a week or so with random "sim card removed" errors. The reboot would sometimes fix it for awhile. AT&T tech said it was a hardware issue. Well, I took the phone apart after watching the youtube video to see how easy it was. Upon close inspection I could see that the connector for the sim card assembly was just very slightly lifted on the ribbon cable side, I reseated it and the errors went away, While I was in there I put a small piece of duct tape (1/8 x 1/4") on the corresponding area of inner frame to help hold it in place. If you have this issue try it if the phone is out of warranty like mine was. Good Luck.
Well it looks like it is a very real hardware issue. I have replaced the card reader, but the phone acts the very same way. I bought a gophone for use while I get it fixed.
I have found a fix! (so far)
I know this thread is old, but I thought I'd let you guys know I found something that has worked for me.
Like the OP, I hunted the web for solutions. Tried uninstalling various apps, clearing cache, full wipe and reset, dancing naked under the full moon, etc. I even did a full factory reset, and left the phone alone for awhile. Still, the phone eventually refused to recognize the SIM and asked to be rebooted. As an aside, I am SOGLAD that I have multiple backups of my phone!
So, I can say, without a doubt, that this is a hardware issue. I will be back to eat my post if my phone resets again.
Here is the link to the fix that (so far, HYB!) has worked for me: http://forums.androidcentral.com/samsung-galaxy-s4/276524-galaxy-s4-major-problem-sim-card-not-detected-8.html#post4258210
This thread explains that a well placed piece of Double-Sided Foam Tape underneath the back cover will do the trick of holding the SIM ribbon in place and making contact.
Of course, I had no DSFT, so I used a little piece of electrical tape, rolled into a tube and cut to fit. So, there.
That was a week ago.
I have had *ZERO* SIM errors since.

Hey ericm301, it's been a month, are you still error free?
Just to add to the comment about using double-sided foam tape, the original card reader comes with a foam pad that is attached to the connector. When the back panel of the S4 is snapped into place and screwed down the foam pad ensures the connection doesn't loosen. If you replace the card reader with one purchased off Amazon, it usually does not include the foam. The foam tape is the expedient option, but the other option is to carefully peel off the foam from the original and attach it to the new card reader. That foam peels off rather easily, and fortunately peels off in one piece.
FYI, for anyone who cares, my card reader failed in early October. It's now May and I have had no issues at all after replacing the reader and transferring the foam to the new reader.
Hi,
I Had the same problem and already tried every suggested fix on the net, and nothing worked.
i Even sent it to the dealer, and they told me it's a motherboard problem and needs to be changed, but i wasn't willing to spend 250$
I almost threw the towel till i found a post that recommended removing the two screws above the battery
and when i removed them the error stopped, even the heating problem went away.
it's been three days now, and i even tried two different sim cards to try and check if i get the error back.
so far so good.
Please try it, and i hope it helps
I've tried many things from replacing the sim tray to cleaning every single connector on the mainboard with 99% alcohol. None of them worked for me.
Alas, I found a solution that worked for moi!

In my case i've done so many things that i cannot ciunt them already lol
I even replaced sim card tray but with no luck, the sim card reboot error always apears -.- need a new motherboard for sure.
Derp here is my go at it

Hey Mi Lover and other engineers!
You must deal with this problem have
The solution is simple
Without using special equipment
Only the amount of glue!
You must do the following steps in order to get the correct result
1- Pull out the metal part of the SIM card with razor blade

2- Stick SIM card with amount of glue! (just a little!)
attention:
1- This work is very delicate so cut the around of sim card carefully with razor. (careful dont cut ur hand )
2- dont use amount of glue to stick sim card to sd card. (if u use a lot of glue the height of sd card will be increase and u cant placed sim's slot!
3- It's better use 3G sim card to do it (the IC's are smaller than 4G) if you use 4G press and smash edge of sim card to sleep on the sd card!
4- and last guidance is use 128gig smartphone it's difficult way if u are impatient!

Thanks, tried with 4g sim and 64gb sandisk and works well. Used for 2 weeks now without any trouble.
Only the problem is I managed to put them in... it was hard to do so as it was thicker 4g sim. I used little force.
Now I worry how will I get them out (haven't tried yet)
Edit: After another week I tried to pull sim tray out and it came out ok.
Don't try this, I ruined my SD card as well as the SIM card. This works great, why take the risk?

Well I have broken two sim cards when trying to install this way, all was in pretty good visual condition (not so ugly as above) and fits perfectly in the bed with sd card. Seems that sim card is very sensitive to any pressure when is "naked", but this extender is maybe some ugly solution.
The extender fits in my (flip cover) case without any problem and so the SIM card is very well hidden, you can't see or feel it. If you only use a silicon case you will slighty feel a little bump where the SIM card is attached.

I don't know, on my Mi Max I'm still on Android 7 (using GlobeROM). On my Samsung Note 7 however, I'm using a custom ROM on Android 8 in which this option of simultaneously using 2SIM & SD was made available again (I thought Samsung had blocked this option, but it seems Android 8 is doing that...). So, I guess developers might know how to bypass this.

sigh not sure if i want to jailbreak just for this
so far i haven had the need for jail break
i feel android have enough apps to do almost anything
