Marshmallow 6.0.1 and having custom ROM - X Style (Pure) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I saw that there was a update being pushed for my phone and its marshmallow 6.0.1. I currently have my phone rooted+bootloader unlocked and custom rom trupurexmm 2.4 installed, will I be able to receive this update automatically? Or do I have to undo all this stuff I did to my phone? What are the improvements with 6.0.1?

You definitely can't take the OTA, or it won't succeed anyway, with a custom ROM/recovery. You would have to go back to stock. As far as improvement or changes, I don't know.

Are you sure it's 6.0.1? How do you know that?can't find anything regarding 6.0.1

CyanogenMod is on 6.0.1 I believe. Not a whole lot of info on it that I could find, but I do know that you should NOT take that OTA if you're rooted, etc... Just wait for TruPureXMM to be updated and include it if it doesn't already.

I want to upgrade from MLG to NC2 too. However, there is no direct way to do it at the moment.
However, if you are still at A2, you can use Safestrap to switch between MJ5 and NC2 (Please don't flash NC2 aboot.mbn!!!!!!)
Yes there is just do the mj5 restore that is in this section then follow one of the guides on how to install the ota

As Jerrycoffman said. . . .
Restore back to MJ5 using this guide - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2559715
Don't root using the last part. It removes knox which will block you from being able to update the phone.
Next there will be a OTA to install its around 60mb. This is NB4
Lastly, just download kitkat OTA that's available. This may take sometime because it is a larger file size.
A lot of people have had issues installing the Kitkat OTA (including me). It fails at a certain percentage.
If you have this problem just follow this guide to fix it - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2701062
Make sure you back up any apps and files you need before starting this
Honestly instead of upgrading to official KK, why don't you just root and flash of of the available KK rom which is so much better than stock. Unless you don't care about the custom rom and root, you can follow what other has suggested to get the official OTA. Once you update thought, no way to get it root anymore

There is absolutely NO reason, if you follow instructions correctly, to accept the official update. Been there, done that. Glad I returned my OFFICIAL 4.4.2 phone and got another one to keep root on!!!

Isis can work on kit kat. I had it working but changed to wallet out of principal

Best solution:
Go to Best Buy and ask one of the Samsung people to get you to stock, in less than 10 to 15 minutes you'll be in OTA Kit Kat.
No reason to have OTA kitkat when you lose root.
I use ISIS daily with the following mod

Has anyone successfully retained root from 4.3 to kit-kay 4.4?

I've seen several posts on using the leaked 4.4. Has anyone successfully retained root after 4.4 ota using the official 4.3 currently rooted? I really don't want to install safestrap or the leaked 4.4 .
Also,
Whats the big deal about 4.4? Should I just freeze 4.3 to keep root?

Read. It really is a very special release and everybody that's running a rooted note 3 should be on it.

Everyone retains root. You have to be rooted to install it and the rom is already rooted.
It's really good.

If you want the already rooted 4.4, I'm pretty darn sure you MUST use safestrap. Otherwise, you are stuck with the un-rooted leak.
Yeah. Safestrap and the rooted leak is the only way to go.
I see what he is asking now. Has anyone who was running rooted 4.3 taken an official OTA update to kit kat and retained root.. Seeing as the official kit kat OTA on Verizon hasn't happened yet, nobody can say.

Yes this is exactly what I am asking. Thanks
I like the phone the way it is and have tweaked a few things with xposed and so I want to keep root. However if there is a wonderful new feature on 4.4 that I can't live without then I might need to figure out 4.4 root.
For now I am just going to freeze the update service.
Actually the official OTA is probably going to be very bad and we may not be able to do as much with it. May not even get root. The leaked version is tweaked for performance, and already rooted, and has some features that would never be in an official release. I highly recommend you go ahead with it and forget about trying to be the only guy on here that wants to wait for the official leak and possibly loose root in the process. You won't get much help rooting it when everybody is already on a rooted kit kat. Nobody is going to waste time with it.

Only ones you don't want. Every app I have works fine on KK. Good devs have already updated their apps.

From what I read a while ago Root Keeper does not work with 4.3. I checked and that is still the case. I can only assume it also would not work for 4.4.
I did read that SuperSU has a preserve root function. I think somewhere else I read you temp unroot then preserve root. After taking the OTA you enable root again.
Something like this.

I know but there's not been an OTA yet so how would anyone know if it works on the OTA?
Sent from my SM-N900V using Tapatalk
The leaked version is a gold mine! It allows you to go back to 4.3 at any time via odin where as the official will not allow this. I am currently running leaked version and it is flawless. You dont have to have SafeStrap active after installing it just need to have it installed. I havent even opened SS since installing the leaked 4.4.2 update.

This is the second reason for asking. If people ota upgrade that have root and want to experiment then they could post their results here. So I believe I need to ask this before people start accepting ota.

updating stagefright patch without unrooting?

I was thinking about installing a custom rom that would have that patch already in it????
Is there a way to use samsung smart switch to install the update? When I attempt to check for software update on my phone, it actually tells me the OS has been modified and try using the smart switch....
Finally, if unrooting is a must, when I go to root, can I follow the same exact protocol as before, or must the developers update the root packages first?

I have a towelrooted S5 with a slightly debloated stock lollipop 5.0 (BOD3) and I successfully patched stagefright with FlashFire and this fix.
The Detector App says "Not Vulnerable". Knox is still 0x0. No unrooting necessary.

Updates after rooting?

So I checked that once I am rooted, I will no longer get any official updates. Is that true? Any workarounds for that?
If I am on stock rooted rom, then how will I receive updates?
Anyone?
You won't. ..that's the point of rooting...an update is likely to break the root
Do we need to freeze anything to avoid an ota before we know it's safe?
Sent from my SM-G928C
So what's the option to update after rooting? What does the general majority do?
You wait for a dev to take whatever update was released to dissect and tweak and wait for their release.

Hello. As I know you wont get OTA update, you can flash original updated firmwares via odin(downloaded from sammobile.com). At the other hand you can flash custom roms which based new firmware, your choice. Thank you.
Ok so effectively, its better to put custom Rom as they will provide updates regularly.. If I install official firmware everyone a new update comes, then again I'll have to root it separately.. That is just irritating.. So better to go to custom Rom then! Thanks!

Android 7.0 flashing question

Hello, I want to flash the 7.0 update yet I'm uncertain as to which build I'm supposed to use. I'm currently on MTC19T but don't know which I'm supposed to use from the factory images " 7.0.0 (NRD90T)" or "7.0.0 (NRD90U) ".
I'm currently on PureNexus ROM with ElementalX kernel.
This is about the Nexus 6P.
Use the latest (NRD90U).
I was wondering if you're on a custom 6.0.1 ROM (DU for example) if you can just clean flash up to a 7.0 ROM? Or do you need to first do a flash-all.bat of the NRD90U from google or something like that? Idk how simple moving up to nougat is.

You can clean flash a 7.0 rom, however you need to flash the matching 7.0 vendor.omg as well.
