Hi there, I have been a member for a while now but never posted before!
I have followed many of the hints, tips and suggestions on this forum and have had a great time with my O2 XDA mini s but now find myself needing more help !
In fixing my mini s stylus issue I voided the warranty. A couple of weeks ago a colleague managed to knock a screwdriver into the empty battery compartment. I was swapping the sim card but got called away. The screwdriver pierced the sticker giving the IMEI number and damaged the electrical component under it. The component is labelled 3R3.
After calming down and restarting the mini s, all was ok apart from the backlight which would not work at all. I took my phone to a local phone repair shop who had it for a week then said they could not fix it as it needs a new mainboard - typical !
I have spoken with O2 who will charge me £17.50 to send my phone off to a company called A Novo who (I was told) will then send it back unrepaired as the warranty is voided. Totally pointless.
Does anyone know where I might be able to get my mini s repaired or has anyone got a broken mini s with a good mainboard they are willing to sell me ?
thanks
If you send it to Anovo they can quote you for a non warranty repair, this way you will know whether its worth while paying for the repair. BTW Anove are based in Norwich. I believe there is a link form the o2 xda web site that has a contact number.
Hope that helps
LB
LB,
thanks for the reply.
I have had a hunt through the o2 XDA site but cannot seem to find any reference to Anove. I have even googled them and not found anything like.

thanks - i'll get straight on to them.
Has anyone else used them? If so what are they like ?
Cheers
These people seem ok.
I did not actually need to use them in the end so I can't tell you what they are like, but give them a try.
They are authorised repairers for HTC models.
If you contact them and explain the fault, they will give you a quote before they carry out the work.

Good Luck!
If nothing works out for you, I've got a almost like new main board lying right here on my desk! I purchased a damaged wizard to grab a part out of it i needed for mine but the main board is still in perfect shape. I could sell it to you with or without the camera, your choice. PM me if interested.

Apex laptops are overpriced and most definatley NOT HTC authorised - most of their 'parts' come salvaged from broken units. Check their website. Then go elsewhere...!

Depending on where you are in Yorkshire, you could take your device to Bulmers second hand shop in York on a wednesday or saturday and ask for 'Dave' - big guy with glasses. He does board level repairs on xda's but is usually quite busy.

Apex laptop
Apex laptops do not use parts from broken pda's. They come direct from factory. I bought a new XDA II case and it is perfect!
i would highly recomend them.
they are not overpriced either. they say if you find a price cheaper elsewhere they will beat that!
check it out http://www.apexlaptops.co.uk/HTCspares.htm

Ok, then why do they have Qtek 2020 boards listed - if they came direct from HTC they would have no reseller rom flashed to them. Trust me, I know. They alos charge £295 for this board! MORE THAN A COMPLETE DEVICE.
They also list the housing at £25 and the front bezel at £30, battery cover at £15 and aeriel cover at £15 = £85.
I sell the complete housings on ebay for the himalayas / alpine for £25....and they are the entire housing inc the battery cover!
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=130015502288
So you don't think that much of a massive markup is overpricing? £85 from them or £25 from me. Hmmmmmmmmmmmm............
So, I state again, they are OVERPRICED.
Richard

Hi folks,
Allow me to intoduce myself.
I am the Service Manager for a UK based laptop and PDA repair company, Apex Laptops. With regards to the PDA repair side of our company, we specialise in mainly iPAQ PDA's but are finding a large number of people wanting HTC repairs.
We have tried many sources to obtain parts, the most unhelpful being 02's actual XDA repair center, ANOVA.
We are trying to find a company or people who would like to give / sell their broken / unwanted HTC's to us. Working or not, we do not mind.
If you know or have any information which may be of use to us, we will certainly be most grateful.
Thanks for your time and hopefully look forward to speaking to you soon.

I tried Apex Laptops with no success. I emailed them with the details and received an email back saying someone would be in touch soon. Several days later I received another email asking for a little more detail. I sent the reply and have heard nothing since. I even emailed them with prompt for my estimate! Just nothing from them.
On the other hand, fluffcat1 and Dave in York have been more than helpful. I can recommend them both

LMAO!
Obviously making no comment about a specific company here, but as a general statment...
Should a person, say, a Service Mananger, for a company visit a forum, not disclose that they work for said company, while making comments about them, you would think "hey, that's immoral". You could well be right.
Should that person LIE about the company, say for example, making a false claim that they are a customer of said company and give glowing FALSE praise, you'd probably be inclined to wonder about just what kind of a business it is. You'd be right to think that. That hypothetical situation would be incredibly shady, outright immoral, and quite possibly an illegal business practise.
A little flag should also be waving in your head saying "hey why does this hypothetical person need to pretend to be a satisfied customer? surely if they are an honest and trustworthy company they will have actual satisfied customers, and have no need to lie and decieve."
Shold said manager at the company in one thread be calling for people to send them broken phone parts for use as spare parts, yet in another vigourously (while lying and pretending to be a customer!!!) deny that they use parts from broken phones... you'd just be thinking "WTF! Why aren't these people being invesigated by the local coppers?" That'd be a fair question.
In this hypothetical situation, I would advise people to seek the advice of the local trading standards or police, to determin the legality and correctness of this deciet.
Of couse, as I've stated, this is all hypothetical and unrelated to this thread. No idea why I've posted it here, sorry. We have NO such immoral persons falsely claiming to be satisfied customers.
I apologige profusely for this post that is unrelated to the thread and the posted comments within.

Dear Developers,
I've just "hard bricked" a Sony Ericsson E15i (MSM7227 chipset) with a manufacture date of 11W48 while I was messing with the bootloader.
After spending my day on the network, I've found a few trail of people, who were able to recover their phones from this state, which is the total death.
One of them used Omnius for SE with the "Repair S1-boot" option, with a homemade UART cable from a Nokia CA-42. It seems that no other "standard" USB cable would do, because the CA-42 has a UART micro-controller built in. I've found a CA-53 in my drawer, but this article on Nokia cables pointed out, that these have either a "Texas Instrument TUSB3410 RS-232/IR-to-USB converter while some others are using ArkMicro ARK3116T USB-to-UART Controller", which is good, if you have one at home.
Second solution I've found suggests a direct UART cable. As it describes, I need a USB 2.0 to TTL UART CP2102, where CP2102 would mean the chipset. I've learned something about UART, so I decided to buy a "USB 2.0 to TTL UART Module 5 pin Serial Converter CP2102 STC". Is this TTL UART cable, which some folk would call "resurrection cable" or "testpoint cable"?
Here comes the first question: is it good for me?
Lets state that it does. Which software should I use? The two post above suggests Omnius, which needs contribution from my pocket. Is there any free alternative to a bootloader repair with the UART cable I would have? Lets state that there isn't. Does Omnius would do it for me?
Basically I'm searching for more input on this matter, other than the two mentioned post above. I would disregard the use (buy) of JTAG/RIFF for this single scenario.
Any help would be very much appreciated!
I would have looked for or created a meme, but here goes:
If you're gonna mess with the bootloader on a 11w29+ device, you're gonna have a bad time!
No free alternative if you're not into electronics.
I dunno about Omnius. Some people have reported successful recoveries! But there is no definitive guarantee that it will work 100%.
I am going to help you as much as I can because you are one of the very few, who have made it a point to search the threads and gather as much relevant info as possible before asking anything.
Cheers.

Are you really going to? Your post is on 35% about a meme, on 25% about stating you know nothing about Omnius neither the method I'm trying to accomplish here, and the rest is the one I've quoted.
I'm new to this forum, but I bet you just wasted my time and yours too, because neither of us further by 1 nano meter in this matter, but the database has at least two more records loaded for nothing.
Thank you, anyway, and have a nice day!
What I meant was I'll try my best to help you if you face any problem.
I didn't say I know a lot about Omnius because if I provide misleading info, you may fall into trouble and I wouldn't want that.
And if you don't know your way around Omnius (like me) a paid method (the one where you get it unlocked from an electronics store) is your best option. This I'm 100% sure about. So the answer to this:
Here comes the first question: is it good for me?

Is basically this:
There is no free alternative unless you have the skills and resources available at your disposal. The best option is to go by the paid method (the one I mentioned above) IMHO.
Have you gone through this post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=27942435&postcount=205
Seems to talk about Omnius. Doesn't, however, mention it being free or something.
And lastly, I hardly feel I have wasted time for either one of us. If you really wanted to disregard my post (which seems sorta obvious from your post), you did not have to post back. That is wasting time. Wasting time is completely against what I am supposed to do on XDA.
Thank you. Have a nice day too!

Regarding the theme "Repair (resurrect) bootloader SE X8 (E15i) with TTL UART cable", going to an electronics store is NOT an option. I'm waiting for input on this matter: Repair (resurrect) bootloader SE X8 (E15i) with TTL UART cable.

Are you really sure about that - parallel that you stated you know nothing about Omnius and about this method or any other software with the service to flash the bootloader?
I don't know how Omnius works, but I do know that it requires purchasing of credits (which is most definitely not free). I know this because I wanted to use Omnius once when I got my W350i SIM locked.
And it seems you have gone through that single post, which basically means you are familiar with one of the two methods now available to you, both of which require some form of money.
Bottom line: You need money now to fix your phone.

Should I consider a post from a Guest, who says "The phone is dead and beyond any repair possibilities you can try at home.". Actually I know a guy in the neighbor village who can and would JTAG/RIFF the bootloader on my X8, but that would cost money. 20 times more than a UART cable I've just ordered. I like to do things myself, and it's not just about money, but the fact that I was able.
Also, please stop posting about the fact that 11W29+ phones usually lock the bootloader (from USB side). I'm fully aware of that, and as you see it also does not help me.
Okay even if you do it yourself, you need to use some form of money. Omnius requires money, third party fixes require money. You can try Omnius for that sense of self-achievement, but at the end of the day, you will have spent some money. Omnius would do the job for you. There I have answered all your questions (or so I think).

Basically, my knowledge on this matter did not improve since I've presented it, so I think you've answered non of my questions. No offense, but I really want to discuss this with a guy who actually ran Omnius for at least once, or if I go forward, who actually performed a successful S1 recovery with it. On the other hand, there is a software called SETool2, which accidentally can perform S1 recovery through drones - sadly it still needs money, but far less than my third party familiars.

Hi I'm an absolute newby to the world of Android, so i'm probably going to ask a zillion WTF questions please be patient with me
I'm a fresh purchaser of an Android headunit and firstly I would like to know what I actually have, then I'll go looking or asking how to turn on the Coffee maker , Autonomous driving, Automatic refuelling and tire change functions ( the nice man from China told me all these functions are built in) and were inclusive in the price ,he also told me the unit was Plug N play for my specific car.......... well it is now !!!. So here's what I think I have found, the display is marked 8678 4g64g
so I think that's telling me it has a Mediatek MT8678 SoC in it ( but I really have no clue)
The Model/Hardware is A007 ( I know how James Bond feels when Q gives him a new gadget) NFI !!
I have attached photos of the about screen with all the other available information if one or some of you Android apostles can decipher this information for me I would be eternally grateful and promise you the first cup of coffee the unit makes
Cheers Stooooopid
