you have to flash an ni2 kernel first i suggest just downloading the application for it just search ni2 kernel flasher apk

That's all I have to do?
I don't have to flash stock kernel before I get out if safe strap?

I appreciate the help. I just want to make sure i do it correct the first time.
I had someone tell me " You need to flash the NI2 kernel first, then reboot. This should get you into SS. Look for NI2flasher.apk
You will also need to flash your build kernel (OG5) BEFORE you exit SS."
Is this the correct way or just flash like you said ..?
thanks again

I mean they're the same way mine is just the first part but the stock kernel one
Here's what you do flash the NI2 kernel either by the app or in download mode with Odin or using flashfire then it should restart and you click the recovery button and it goes into safestrap then you flash what you want And flash the og5 kernel and restart

Yes you flash NI2 then you do whatever you wanted to do in safestrap usually I flash Roms and stuff that's why I said that but you don't have to then when you're done you flash the OG5 kernel to be able to use the phone again and yeah if you flash a different ROM you'll lose the stock ROM but you can always just flash it back if you don't like that ROM or you can keep it if you like it its all up to you and may you're fine

yes you can make a backup in it and yes you have to flash the ni2 to get to the ss and yes you can use a backup you made from it i believe ive never used the backup function and you should always be able to get the splash screen to come up if you wind up hardbricking your phone some how all you should have to do is flash the boot.img and that should fix it then flash the ni2 kernel and go into it but ive never hardbricked it and yes you are able to install a custom rom using SS all you have to do is go to the install tab in it and install whatever you wanna install and and flash the regular kernel and youre good to go

Hey so my question is I can get into safe strap via app on my rom but in the tutorials, I see people being able to do it via splash, why does my splash screen not show up like the rest? My specs are the same as him except I am using ss 5.01
---------- Post added at 09:06 AM ---------- Previous post was at 09:03 AM ----------
I want to be able to instantly boot into it when my rom is corrupt from improper flashing so I can easily restore and try again properly

As far as I know you can't do that but if your rom or something is messed up all you have to do is boot into download mode and flash an ni2 kernel and it'll pop up

Did you check the MD5 before flashing? Are you absolutely sure the ROM your flashing is compatible with your device? Were you on the latest MF3 firmware before you started flashing?

it appears you have flashed an ATT rom for the i337 and not a Rom for the i337m -- you now have several options to restore your phone
1. flash the Loki'd fix to allow the kernel and rom you flashed to boot your phone or
2. flash a cutom kernel that does work with your phone such a Ktoonz kernel (read the install instructions, for your i337m you need the TMO version of his kernel) or
3 download the stock firmware package for your phone, I'd recommend MG1 either from a link on xda or from samMobile or Samsung updates and install using Odin -- this will completely reset you phone and then you can worry about root and custom recovery after
If you do decide to install fresh factory stock MG1 I can recommend using CF-root to root the i337m and then installing Philz Recovery rather than regular CWM as it installs more easily and plays nicer on the i337m in my experience.
Remember each phone is different but do not attempt to install ATT designed roms on your i337m unless you have the loki patch also on your SD card ready to flash also.
There are many great roms available that do fir the i337m and are specifically set up for our phone.
But first, let's get you out of the download loop. EIther of the 3 options above will do. Personally, I would recommend the Odin install of the stock MG1 firmware and start over with a factory reset and a clean phone.

okay got it back to stock, now quick question for the philz do i flash the .tar with odin? or do something else with the .zip?
Its not the ROM that's incomparable its the kernal your using. Find one for a i337m then flash it immediately after you flash your ROM and see if it works.

so just to go over the steps to make sure i dont mess this up,
so i flashed to the origonal versoin with odin
that worked
then i rooted it using CF root
now i got 2 files from philz and i'm not 100% sure what to do with them, i got a .tar what i assume i flash with odin and a .zip i'm not to sure what i do with they are both named philz_touch_5.15.0-jfltecan.tar.md5 and philz_touch_5.15.0-jfltecri.zip
then once i get into recovery i know how to flash roms, its just this whole kernal thing thats got me confused.

READ THIS FIRST:
MAKE SURE YOU DO NOT HAVE THE MF3 FIRMWARE ON YOUR S4. THAT IS THE MOST IMPORTANT THING TO DO RIGHT NOW. IF YOU DO, DO NOT ATTEMPT TO INSTALL A CUSTOM RECOVERY.
You don't have a custom recovery already that's why. Did casual not install TWRP for you? If not try installing Goo Manager from the app market and try installing TWRP that way. MAKE SURE THAT WHEN YOU INSTALL IT, IT SAYS YOUR MODEL NUMBER EXACTLY! I CAN NOT STRESS THIS ENOUGH! When you have TWRP installed, then flash philz with TWRP and you'll have that custom recovery instead.

do not use the zip you quoted it is not for your phone
use odin flash the tar philz_touch_5.15.0-jfltecan.tar.md5
now you have stock updated MG1 firmware with the latest baseband
root by CF root
Philz Recovery
Now follow the next steps:
1. set up your google account play store etc.
2.next, go into the recovery and do a full nandroid backup -- this gives you a stable base you can restore when needed
3. go flash a custom rom, I highly recommend the latest version of Goldeneye -- updated, well maintained, great developer, clear install instructions
4. try itt then again, use recovery to make a 2nd nandroid, this one of your custom rom install -- try different kernels, every phone is different and someone's favorite kernel just may not like your phone -- doesn't make it a bad kernel just makes it the wrong one for your phone, flash a different one
5. theme if you want -- this is where your recoveries become important as themes are notorious for not always sitting well and all is ok if you have a backup you can return to
6. NEVER flash a baseband from another variant -- stick with your MG1 from your carrier until your carrier updates stock firmware

well, would like to know your build not baseband
ie, mdl, mf3, mk2
otherwise back to stock thru heimdall, since you are on mac, may be path, never used it but there is info on it thru google searches
also, if possible backing up important info on internal card and reformatting may be another option

Do you still get the Safestrap splash screen on boot? If so you can just restore or reflash. Otherwise, you'll need to use the NB1 Odin and take the NC1 OTA.
Before you flash again, make sure you wipe in Safestrap (all but external SD) and check your ROM. Make sure it doesn't need an updater-script in the All Things MK2 & NB1 thread and for gravitron specifically download the Safestrap version of it.

[Q] What's next

I'm going to flash the new ROM over my 4.4.2 S4 LTE. After flashing this new ROM, what are the necessary steps I should do to get my phone rooted?
Which are the compatible flashing/rooting programs to use for this new ROM?

Yes. That's the ROM I'm talking about. I've just flashed Philipz recovery using Odin and everything looking fine. However, I still get the default recovery and not the PhilipZ version.
Is the 5.0.1 not ready for the present recover like Chainfire or Philipz?

I had problems flashing recovery on stock kitkat. Used a workaround with Nandroid manager from play. But you need root for that..
Maybe try a different recovery. I don't see why PhilZ would be the only one to work with the 5.0 rooting method presented somewhere around the forum.
A recovery has nothing to do with the version of the rom you have flashed.
Uncheck auto-reboot before flashing the rom with Odin.

Will give this a try.
Update - No go with what you have described. Stuck at the end of Odin flashing. Have to pull out the battery. Luckily, phone still can boot but with the default recovery.

Stock recovery

Hi all. I'm in need of the stock recovery file for N910H on stock 6.0.1. Preferably in .tar format. Thanks

I believe that sammobile would have the stock rom, which if i remember correctly will automaticly flash stock recovery on flash.
But what problem do you have or why do you need a stock recovery, if i may ask ?

Flashed TWRP on my unrooted phone via Odin. Worked the first time round, and I was able to clear cache. Rebooted, and I've not been able to boot into recovery since. I can boot into download mode, but not recovery mode. Pressing the right buttons just boots up the phone normally. Haven't got root, so I can't use an app to boot into recovery.

Are you absolutely sure that you flashed the right version? I did the wrong version once since the website van be a bit confusing for some phones, a reflash with the right one with Odin saved me
I want to root my phone but it needs to install a custom recovery, if ever I want to get back the stock recovery...
Does flashing the stock rom replace the custom recovery with the stock recovery?
Sorry I'm a noob
Hi there
I didn't got everything but I'll try to help.
Get latest Odin : https://samsungodin.com/download/Odin3_v3.12.3.zip
Get a stock ROM: chose the right one for you
http://samsung-updates.com/device/?id=SM-n910h
or
https://samsung-firmware.org/model/SM-N910H/
or
https://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/galaxy-note4/SM-N910H/
Get TWRP: https://eu.dl.twrp.me/treltexx/twrp-3.1.1-0-treltexx.img.tar.html
Get Magisk:
https://dl.xda-developers.com/4/4/2....zip?key=ZHiP_JZ9z3O4YQoq9ammlg&ts=1522485842
Flash stock ROM.
Flash TWRP. (Knox 0x1)
Boot to recovery and backup.
Flash Magisk in TWRP.
You'll end up with a rooted stock ROM and custom recovery
Hope this may help

Thanks sir barlu
Another question, does flashing the stock rom ALONE make my phone stable and usable like a new one?
My phone is Note Edge SC-01G btw
I really wanted this phone to be rooted

Take care to get the right ROM or you could brick your phone! All I said above apply to N910H ONLY!
For your device: www.sammobile.com/firmwares/galaxy-note-edge/SC-01G/
Maybe another ROM would fit but you have to find out in the other threads...
Sorry if I can't help you more but there are too many differents versions
