I have this SM-T230NU with the latest 4.4.2 update. I dont really like 4.4 and lower so i am trying to find a android 5.X or even 6.x rom. I dont have root and TWRP and if there is a ACTUAL 5.x or 6.x firmware I am going to root and get TWRP for that.

The touchwiz samsung stuff just slows it down as i saw. and why is there no custom roms? Well i see that some people are working on CM12.1 for the T230/NU right here so i might as just wait for that or something else to come.

I installed acheron rom, it has trebutched launcer and its smoother than stock. At this moment those who started making cm12.1 are working on cm11 not on cm 12.1. We can expect to see stable 5.x custom roms maybe after 5.1.1 firmware gets relased for tab 4 7.0 wifi only, and honestly i wouldnt count on that.

Okay. I highly doubt that 5.1.1 FW will come out for T230NU model
It'll probably take a while. Blame Marvell. I'm running a StockRom series 4.4.2 ROM, rooted and super debloated. It runs fine, with a few hiccups here and there.

OK... so all the kerneis are for custom roms... so sad... i like stock rom...

This is the new stock kernel for 4.4 that let's you flash 4.4 based stock Roms strait from 4.2. You must also flash the baseband when going back and forth. (I think this is what you asked for)
If youre talking about a modified stock kernel for 4.4, then no. No one has anything out yet. And more then likely won't for a bit after all devices have access to 4.4

If you have the developer edition of the Verizon S5 bought directly from Samsung, then yes you can flash this and CM12. Since you mentioned safestrap I'm going to assume you have the retail version of the Verizon S5, so no you cannot flash this, CM12, or any AOSP based ROM.
hmmmm

To be honest i am not quite sure of it origins we got it in china and the software that came on it before i flashed the Syndicate rom just said g900 so i take it it had some custom Chinese firmware. (see attached) i have made a backup so i can easily flash to its "original" state
Alsi i am in the UK and running three mobile
Edit: also if i can not flash CM12 how can i get a lollipop rom with Nexus style i hate touchwiz i had been using S4 rom with nexus style lollipop and i like it so much better

I don't think this is possible yet. Our only hope for something other than TW is probably the Eclipse ROM but that's AOSP style.
Thanks

The stock is not better because the custom roms are based on the stock.....that is if they are tw based.

Have you tried the GPE roms? It has been the most stable and hassle free rom I used so far.
Or try CM12.1. I use it currently in combination with Ktoonsez 5.1 kernel and it works with no problems. Also it is a lot smoother than 5.0.1

i have the i9500 variant, so GBE roms wont work, and CM12 or CM12.1 are good, but battery life is horrible, and the camera is s***....i tried cm12 couple weeks ago, its smooth enough but the camera i not good, AOSP roms have bad cameras....

your right, but sometimes custom roms breaks some functionality, so maybe its a bit better, i dont know for sure...
Hi I have an unrooted Samsung Galaxy S4 I9505 on Cyanogenmod M11, Was on UK VOD stock but moved to Cyanogenmod which is still on 4.4.4 KitKat but I'm a bit worried about future development of CGM. I read about tussles with other companies and big aspirations for M12 but the regular updates I've been enjoying have died out. not even a lollipop stable yet, I'm beginning to lose hope.
I know I shouldn't be so skeptical but I want to explore other roots (no pun intended).
Currently which rom would provide me with a stable lollipop with regular OTA updates for future proofing my phone?
Thanks v much
Alternatively I guess I could go back to stock to get lollipop but haven't done it in a while Im guessing I just flash a stock image via odin
Those tensions don't really affect Cyanogenmod, though I understand your concern. However, the biggest issue you're going to have is that most - if not all - custom ROMs are built using Cyanogenmod as a base. Realistically, the only alternative available I can think of without going to Touchwiz is Danvdh/Kryten's GPE ROM. Going back to Touchwiz is a dead end. Samsung has stated that Android 5.x is the end of the line for the S4, meaning there will be no Android M unless using a custom ROM.
Thanks very much for the excellent advice. I will give Danvdh/Kryten's GPE ROM a go and see how I go. I'm going to post the link to the ROM thread if anyone is following the same route as me: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2557353
EDIT: I'm going to try http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s4/i9505-orig-develop/rom-cyanogenmod-12-t2943934 first as its CM 12 lollipop which is what I was looking for really but will try GPE if i dont like that rom
Another question... sorry: i currently have CWM on my phone but the CM rom says to use TWRP with F2FS does cwm have this or do i need to remove CWM and install TWRP?

Don't use that version of CM. It's not what you want because it's not updated anymore.
Use this version:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/gal...lop/exclusive-antaresone-alucard24-s-t3066696
or the Official nightlies.
I used the older one but realised too late (
got stuck with no gapps and the bloody thing wouldnt boot into recovery cwm or twrp :/ never had that before. so having to do stock flash It's failed twice LOL
EDIT: got it stocked well thats something at least. anyway tomorrow I'll try again and get TWRP on there properly, it was weird because cyanogemod had installed CWM on there before i couldnt get rid of it :/ so i ended up with no recovery manager doh! Thanks for the link Lenny

Personally I would recommend any android 4.4.4 rom. Stock or custom is your choice.
All android versions after 5.0 doesn't performe good over longer times on the grouper.
I am using purity rom.
I have red that the unofficial slim rom 9.0 was just updated with patched stagefright.

Never heard that you can't downgrade. I was on 5.1.1 and I am now on 4.4.4.
I used wugs nexus root kit or how it is called and went back to 4.4.4.
I hadn't any problems.

You can give it a try. Just have all drivers installed and running and all should be fine.
Are you currently on stock?
If not and you are running a custom rom you can install a custom 4.4.4 rom via custom recovery.
yeah i have always used this device on Stock Rom
just flashed 4.4.4 using wugfresh and now device has become so quick like the way i bought Thanks for the help anything you would like to tell
What's the verdict on new marshmallow roms? Any good or still too new to tell?
AOSP 6.0 is running much better than 5.1.x on grouper, but there are still some minor issues you need to accept
- autorotate stops working after deep sleep
- sound some times stops (can be fixed be inserting a headset for a short time)
- sometimes a bit laggy, but much much better than 5.1.1

nexus 7 2012 will be update to 6.0 by google?
I think best version is 4.4.4, bu, i have some issues on USB dac, because i use on my car. Original lolipop + root + kernel oxydorevamp works fine (most time).
@rgp95: I was referring to the AOSP version provided by Dmitri Grinberg which can be flashed on your own risk.
