Hey folks I'm looking for a new phone but not too expensive ones.Im thinking Asus zenfone 2 or note 2 or galaxy s4.What do you think of these or do you have any suggestions ?
BTW i9300 is great phone I'm changing this because only and only lack of ram.I tried everything z ram swap file nothing helps. Its sometimes freezing and it makes me crazy. Also if you have any suggestion about ram I would really appreciated

What's your budget? Also I wouldn't recommend another Samsung device. I'll always regret the day wasted my 1 year savings on an s3

I'm thinking 500 dolar max. Also why don't you recommend Samsung :/.What do you think about Asus zenfone 2 ?

With that budget I'd suggest buying a lg g4 or a nexus 5x. Now those devices don't 4gbs of ram but they are certainly beasts and almost lag-free with great performance and decent SoC. I haven't heard much about asus phones but if u check CM's download site, you'll notice that not many asus phones are supported by them which means that if u'd ever want to flash a ROM for whatever reason, then chances are your device won't be supported mainly because of their SoC.
Why no more Samsung? Simply touchwiz, exynos, lack of updates and they usually take too much time to update their firmaware if at all. Also you'd think that a 3gbs top of the line phone would handle multitasking like a beast and that apps would be kept running in the background so when u reopen it'd pick up where you left off without re-loaling the app, but noooo it's Samsung we're talking about here they won't allow such a privilege other OEMs have had since 2012, will they?
Anyway think about the lg g4 or nexus 5x or why not lg v10

Yeah you kinda right buddy. But as you see there is great roms for Samsung in here . especially for s4.I would really glad if s3 has more ram. Also I'm using Samsung for years and touch wiz pretty familiar to me.Thats why I thought like this.About those phones:sadly they don't sell nexus 5x to my country so I can't buy it.But LG g4 seems pretty great. Why don't you recommend Asus instead of LG even it seems better and cheaper I mean I guess I don't have to use ROM if it's that fast and smooth Also thank you for you advices

indecision between i9000 and LG 2X

Hello,
I need some help.
I need (want) to buy a new Android device in the next days.
I was going for the I9000 till today when I discovered the LG 2X I never heard about before, it would cost me 10€ more but it provides dual core processor and better gpu (in the event google will ever use gpu acceleration for the OS).
I would go with that, the problem is that from what I've read here the stock ROM sucks, and the battery with it doesn't last long. But the main concern for me are the custom ROMs since I was going to use them on the galaxy anyway. I've seen that even the cutoms ROMs for the lg are not stable and complete, missing a lot of features and functionalities.
Do you think considering I want the best bang for the buck in terms of performance and OS support will it be better to just go with samsung but basically having half* the performance but HUGE community developers support or buy the better LG and hoping the community will continue creating a stable CM7 at least?
I also wonder why the LG costing roughly the same as the SGS is not that famous, I think that's is the main reason why the development is still at early stages
2x, nothing to think about.
Sent from my GT-I9000 using Tapatalk
i'd get the 2x too.
Sent from my GT-I9000 using Tapatalk
Thank you.
Could you elaborate your reasons since you both have the I9000?
Well, LG really doesn't utilise the tech it contains
Played with the phone for few days and although it's got some nice touches it does not feel snapier or smoother than SGS. I was facing the same dilema you have now few months ago and went with SGS. But thruth to be told I've had SGS before for half a year and knew what to expect. Check the 2x section here on XDA and see whats up with development, issues bugs etc. In the end what ever phone u pick it is what u make of it. Good luck.

i would never buy a product manufactured from LG. pure ****.

I bought it recently, because I got rid of HTC Desire just in time, so I could get a used SGS for the same price. Its a great device, only thing that sux, is the slow internal memory chip, that's why it gets laggy after installing a load of apps. CM7 thankfully puts the data on the system chip.
Besides better, newer hw on LG, I really have no idea why you would prefer 1 yr old device. Smack CM on the LG and that's it. :]
doesn't CM on the LG have problems? like camera, bluetooth, battery?
Seems pretty buggy
Nightly says only problems with AD2P bt audio: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1058254
M8 went from SGS to 2x and is quite happy with it. Installed CM immediately :]
what about the screens? Is the Samsung's AMOLED better?

But Optimus 2x has IPS screen which is also very good.
Optimus 2x or Galaxy S?
As you can see from my signature, I'm in the exact same position. The problem is that the Galaxy S is a very mature device with many stable fixes/kernels and Roms. There is also a large community support.
However, the Optimus 2x has MUCH better specs at the same price. The O2X is very premature as the only 2.3 Rom is CM7, which is very buggy. There have been numerous problems with O2X's as well like screen bleed and freezes/reboots etc. Also worth noting is that the Optimus 2x community is nowhere near as big and lively as the Galaxy S community (I may be wrong, please correct if I am).
So should I get the mature Galaxy S with a lot of support (and SAMOLED screen) or risk the O2X which has less support but better specs?
P.S. Will Galaxy S be able to run all Tegra 2 games smoothly if GPU is OC?
yup SAME situation. And I bet you're aware of the expansys UK price of the 2X

Yep You're physic!
I'm personally learning towards the O2X. There is so much hardware potential that is yet to come from the O2X. In fact, there is already so many tweaks like CPU/GPU/RAM/Audio and video encoder OC as well as Voodoo sound which is still getting developed by Supercurio.
TBH, if you buy the O2X, it'll certainly be more interesting as the Galaxy S has been tweaked right up to it's highest potential but with the O2X, it's yet to come, and that just adds to the excitement of new hacks/kernels/roms that XDA developers are so good at! I personally think that a tweaked Galaxy S is roughly the same performance as a stock O2X (hence our dilemma) but I believe that a tweaked O2X will surpass performance of SGS2 stock AND tweaked.
The problem is: what if the project will be abandoned? What if ICS will never appear on this device? Be aware also that Nvidia has not made their source code available and thus they may never get some things to work on the phone with customs roms. I don't get if the community is "weak" because the product is newer or because people (aka developers) don't think it has a future.
But still the price/hardware is amazing, too bad the stock rom makes it worse than the SGS, basically if the hardware was actually used by LG alone I would have already ordered it.

Never buy LG 2X its crap phone.... I brought one and sold it out in 10 day of use....Its Junk phone...No proper Support & worst Andriod 2.2 laggy phone. Go for Samsung S1 or S2 best phone Samsung gives best ROM's updates
Or wait till October for Nexus prime.
If not GS1 for sure.

Upgrading to LG V10

I Didn't know where to put this thread so I am simply putting it here in general tab.
Do you guys think upgrading to LG v10 is a good idea?
thing sounds really cool except the processor (snappy 808) which is kinda making me think that its just not the time. Especially now that I know exynos chips are providing way better performance but I really like the features and all. Always have been a power user but ended up buying crappy devices. Every device had its down point somehow. Lg g3 has 2k too much for processor scenes and like that.
I don't want Knox so I don't wanna go down Samsung road if there is no development. After all XDA is what keeps devices newer even after 4 years :')
How many of you think/are considering that upgrading is a good idea?
They should wait with "Premium" device for new Snapdragons. Or atleast use 810 v2.0
That's why im waiting for 2016 flagships
Imagine how good the G5 will be, that's my next phone
The best time to upgrade to a newer device is at the beginning of a year. If you're thinking about buying a new device now, manufacturers are going to release their premium flagship devices in about 4 months.
This means that you'll be happy with a new phone now, but you'll want to swap it in 4 months. If you wait, you'll at least get a whole year on a really nice premium device, or if you're like me, 2 years so the upgrade actually feels like a big leap forward
Geme geme
Just Pre-Ordered the V10, Got the G3 on DAY 1 as well, so this will be a Leap Forward me...LOL

Knox is already in Lollipop..at least parts of it. Knox doesn't stop root or development. Locked bootloaders and DM-verity are what is killing Samsung Development. When the 2 biggest carriers in the US lock down their devices so as to make permanent root as of yet impossible, developers will leave for something else. Marshmallow will be even tougher. If you want a future proof device then you should look at Nexus devices. Otherwise wait and see how root and development turn out for the G5.
My lg g3 sucks at lollipop due to minor transition lags in notif tray and stuff, which i dont like. I will leave Lg asap
I am confuse about V10 position.
It is not a PRO like G PRO 2.
It is not a LG G5.
I will wait for LG G5.
I am waiting for lg v10.. This phone is the best phone till now
Exactly , it's a good idea ....indeed
It's upgrate the camera , memory, processor and the screen ...

I would like to check this one out but I have to wait on my company to test and approve the phone before I can request it (corporations...). My G3 is more stable, fast, and usable than ever on XenonHD 5.1.1...
Pisses me off royally that sprint isn't getting the V10, I want it bad!

I was thinking seriously about getting the V10, and even went to the AT&T store to check one out. But considering the $700.00 price tag to buy one outright, I think I'll get the 32GB Moto X Pure Edition instead.

The Year 2016.. Are You Kool With Your Current Device?

Hello All..
Can you believe 2016 is here..
My Note 4 running the Rapture ROM is ( and will continue to be.. ) Heaven On Earth for me as far as, my needs in a Cellular Device are concerned..
But.. what about you? does the S7 with it's possible return to having a Micro-SD Card slot and the incredible Snapdragon 820 CPU Engine give you justification to invest another $700.00 - $800.00 into the Latest & Greatest?
Have Mid-Level devices reached a point that , they have enough horsepower to suit your needs?
For You.. Has your Galaxy Note 4 run it's course?

I'm good with my note 3 and 4 atm, note 3 on darth stalker and note 4 on kyubi rom dx heavy debloat. I used to go years in between devices before the note line became popular, now with the note 6s sure return to sdcard I'll most likely support it when it releases.

honestly yes I enjoy my note 4 and the DOK2 firmware has made my T3 feel much better than DOG did. I am planning to keep it until dev stops for it. I am starting to worry about my tablet Z though it is getting real slow after its update to 5.1.1
as far as the S7 goes no.. TBH and I cant believe I am saying this but until companies like Sammy and Sony and HTC provide updates for devices as long as that A company it will be hard for me to justify spending that much on a device.
Thankfully the devs keep many devices alive but still manufactures should in a sense stand behind there products and make people want to say YES my next device will be from X I have had great experience with them. My original T got the 5.0.1 update and it turned into a turd. That made me very concerned for the future of our phone, thankfully DOK2 which should have been here sooner did improve things for everyone on T and T3 from what I have gathered so far
No I hate android but I hate OS X more. I wish I would have taken more coding classes when I was younger so I could develop Windows Phone Apps. I LOVE the WP system and just how they designed everything.
If I didnt have a side job that required me to use Android or OS X I wold be rockin the WP.
No no no. This piece of garbage is last Samsung bloat ware I will own. Vanilla Android is the answer for me from now on. I know I know, root, de bloat and custom rom and it's great. No it isn't. Stop fooling yourselves. Samsung is as bad as Apple. Give me my pure Android please.
Yes
If there is no microSD in the next Note, which there probably won't be, then I'll be moving on to a larger screen phone. Huawei has been showing off their 6" Mate 8 which should be announced at CES in a couple of weeks, and it looks good. They seem to making an effort to try and get their products into the US, and their recent products have been well designed.

I will be going back to nexus. Got the note 4 on a whim, its a good phone for normal people. But I regret getting it. I hate how Samsung makes 8 versions of the same phone. Development it always so fragmented.

I agree with this 100%. I personally dont think it should take an act of god to flash international or unlocked firmwares/roms. I would love to turn my carrier note 4 into an unlocked and get the international update from Sammy not one that goes threw T-mobile

You see, I was once young and foolish. just kidding. To each their own I guess and you and your kind are probably why these manufacturers keep pumping bloat ware ridden phones every other month. I don't look for an operating system to excite me. Give me an OS that runs smoothly, conserves power, and is easily upgradeable, let me be in charge of excitement. I will make it exciting.
Im good on stock 5.0.1 COG2 rooted and debloated running good and no issues. Wanted to try DOK2 but seems like to many issues and root is not up to par in my opinion..Happy New Year
Yeah I plan on staying with my note 4. I like my IR blaster for 1. Also the time are cool my 128 gb sd. And basically I'm not that impressed with the new devices out there . I also see so many new cases out there to tally change the look of my device. . So all I'm getting is the gear S that's al I need .
Yep until note 6 comes out with sd card slot. If not i am going elsewhere.

I am for two reasons: 1. Lack of better options, and 2. I just got a warranty replacement this past week and being more selective about the apps I install, running a new ROM, a fresh battery and my trusty 128 GB micro SD have increased my overall opinion of the device.
It is a bit disappointing that there's still no competition for the N4 with a micro SD and removable battery (well, arguably the LG V10 I suppose) at this point, but I'm pretty happy with the refurb N4 that I just received.
The Note 5 failure was helpful to my perspective. Last month, my wife took over my Note 4 and I could have bought anything I wanted- I looked hard and long, and bought another Note 4.
I think we've hit a wall. I don't see another smartphone on the horizon worth diving into my wallet for. The only thing that will perk my interest is a screen over 6 inches on a unit with a removable battery and SD options.
Still loving my Note 4, and still nothing that entices me to upgrade. There's a rumor of a 6 inch variant of the S7. If that happens, I think the Note 6 would also be 6". That would be nice, but I'm not sure it's enough to make me want to upgrade. These phones are expensive, so an upgrade has to have substantial improvements. My Note 4 still has a long life ahead of it I think.
Right now I'm running [DOK2] TEKXodus HYBRID N4 URv5 12/03 NOTE5/EDGE/S6/N4 LOLLIPOP 5.1.1 > TEKHDway! Rom and I'm loving it. Best Rom for the Note 4 910t I would say (In My Opinion).

Looking to buy OP 2; couple questions

Hello.
I'm looking for a new phone, my budget is around 320 USD and therefore OnePlus 2 has really caught my eye. I've found a deal for 300 USD and I'd like to ask a couple questions.
1. The OnePlus 2 sports Snapdragon 810. I haven't heard much about it, but isn't SD 810 infamous for its issues with overheating? Is overheating an issue with OnePlus 2? Can it be completely resolved by flashing a different ROM/Kernel?
2. I plan to have this device for a longer period of time, around 3-4 years. Is OnePlus 2 a viable choice, despite the fact that almost 2 years passed from the release? Will it be able to hold off for that long, in terms of ROM support and general performance/usage?
3. How satisfied are you with your phone? Would you recommend it to me?
Thanks in advance.

1. Snapdragon 810: daily usage is good (I'm not a gamer at all): Messenger, Fenix (Twitter Client), WhatsApp, Facebook through Chrome Dev: everything is good. Yes, just good. Not awesome.
2. Long period of time ? Hell no. Look at OxygenOS update(s) for example. Well. we still don't have 7.x as OnePlus 3 / 3T already have 7.1.x. ROM support. Maybe custom ones yeah, but I think that's all.
Also, Grarak, which is one of the maintainer of LineageOS for the OnePlus 2, seems to stop build ROMs, as announced here. This might be an issue in future, even if there is some developers on this phone.
3. Satisfied ? Not at all. I bought this phone because I had an invite back in time there were still some, and I though hype would be the same as OnePlus One. But very disappointed with phone.
Just go for 3T, or if you have time, wait for OnePlus 4 | 5 , rumors say OnePlus might announced it soon.

Thank you very much for the detailed answer.
I'd like to look back on some questions:
2. Well, I was probably planning to use custom ROMs exclusively, I'll see about that. I didn't expect much from OygenOS to be honest. The thing about Garak seems worrying though.
3. I'd really like to go for the 3T, but I'm restricted by my budget which is around 330 USD. Do you have a better phone to propose?

You could search for the LG G4 for example, which as a Snapdragon 808, 3GB of RAM, Sdcard and QHD Screen, around 325-350$. Be sure, if you buy it, to check for an unlocked one (no locked bootloader for example).
If you search, you could be able to find a OnePlus 3 (just 3, not 3T), under 350$.

While G4 is certainly an interesting choice, I'm hesitant when going for it since I'm worried of all the bootloop issues that were reported to occur. I also think that I could use a little bumped-up specs.
Thank you for reminding me of OnePlus 3. Since there are small differences between 3 and 3T, I'll try and find a deal under 350$. If you have any online shops to propose, please do so.

Thank you for reminding me of OnePlus 3. Since there are small differences between 3 and 3T, I'll try and find a deal under 350$. If you have any online shops to propose, please do so.

You could have a look at Swappa which is a platform where users sell their used mobile. There is "partnership" with XDA, so this site can be trust.

Sadly there are no entries for my market (Europe). However, browsing Ebay, I found a listing claiming they have a new OP 3T 64 GB at $352 "in perfect condition". The seller states: "Bought as Anniversary present. To be honest it's a lovely phone if you like Android But I wanted an iPhone. My wife thought I'd like this instead. Used for 2 hrs around the house and that's all. "
How legit do you think this is?
Oh yess man! I've been using the device for quite awhile now and yes I won't recommend it to u now. It's good but not awesome, just good! Moreover, the software updates are kind of on a standstill now however Custom roms are abundant.
At this point of time, within your budget, I would rather recommend you to go with a device with a sd625! Excellent processor with an exceptional battery management, no heating no matter what you throw at it! Xiaomi Redmi Note 4, Lenovo P2 or the upcoming Moto G5 plus ( supposedly to come with Dual Pixel tech same as in Samsung S7) are a few to mention. Moreover, Xiaomi Mi 5 (comes with SD820) is a crazy good phone to consider if u can get your hands on one! Highly recommended!!

Thank you for the reply. I can't go with the Mi 5 due to it being incompatible with my network. What do you think of the Lenovo ZUK Z2 Pro? It looks like an absolute beast to me.

Ya Z2 pro is a pretty good device! But i don't think that it has much software development! And the Camera is mediocre too. Performance wise, its a beast.

Agreed. I don't use camera that much so it's fine for me. I wish it had more software development than it, but even then, it seems to be extremely good out of the box (software-wise). So yeah, I'm in kind of a dilemma now, cause I need a device that will last 3 years or more. Also I can't go with Redmi Note 4 or Lenovo P2 because they don't have the required bands for my provider.

Then my opinion is that u must wait a week or two and buy yourself a Moto G5+ it will be having the same multipurpose fingerprint sensor (the one Lenovo uses), a class apart camera, much faster updates and vast dev community and this time they are even implementing moto voice feature which was earlier enjoyed only by the moto x users! I am not a moto fan though but this device looks promising!

Seems reasonable. I might as well wait for G5+ and buy it when it becomes available. Thank you once again.
Take my advice and don't buy it.
So did you go for the OP2?
The G5 looks like a good alternative!
no save your hard earned money and buy a better phone, this is already a 2 year old phone and its not worth buying anymore, otherwise if you find a new one for just $50 bucks go for it otherwise forget this phone even existed.

Is anyone concerned about optimization?

So as I'm sure everyone here is aware given XDA's articles on it, Samsung phones with the Snapdragon 820 (well, really ALL Samsung phones, but the 820 ones in particular) had some serious performance issues compared to both the Exynos version, as well as other phones with similar Snapdragon processors.
Does anyone have any info or inkling or just general thoughts on whether the S8 series will have similar problems?
Personally, I'm kind of turn, as I was more or less pleased with the performance of my Note 5, but downright can't stand the S7's performance, so I'm kind of torn on what direction I'm going to go with buying the S8 or not.
I always worry Samsung and Qualcomm will screw it up. I wouldn't be surprised if my OnePlus 3T outperforms the Snapdragon S8's.
Yeah, that's pretty much the exact comparison I've been thinking about.
Of course, I don't think it's even possible for a phone to be faster than the 3T is in day-to-day use.

Oh please. I had zero complaints with my Mate 9 when I had it, and my Pixel XL is perfectly smooth as well. My 7 Plus is a hair smoother sometimes, and that is faster than the 3T.
HOPEFULLY Samsung has their **** together this time, especially with the 835.

From my EXTREMELY limited time using the device in store, it seems that Samsung has tightened things up a bit. It's a good bit smoother than last year's 7 and 7 Edge. Everything is noticeably more fluid and I didn't experience any hangs when opening apps.
Anyone else notice the speaker volume extremely low?

Haha, calm down there. I'm not trying to throw any other phones under the bus, I'm just saying the 3T's performance is impressive.
And, obviously, Apple is usually faster than Android in general.

Hopefully we can get some custom kernel and roms with good performance, I hope Samsung can put more effort on 835 S8.

Should I cancel the order and get a international version? Hard to decide when you can get free gear VR.

Did you just miss the last few years of Samsung development? You won't be getting custom roms or kernels unless you get a OnePlus.

Partially true, the S7 has plenty for the Exynos. It's the Snapdragon variant that won't see any support, if it's locked down again of course.

i think even the exynos get a lot of more support than the snapdragon one
assuming how the snap 820 was, the Xiaomi Mi5, One Plus 3, got really a lot lot of custom roms, meanwhile LG G5 and HTC 10 not much, meanwhile the S7 Edge, as i can see in the forum, has nothing for the 820
I assume now the Xiaomi Mi6 will have a lot of custom roms, with the Snapdragon 835, i don't know about other future phones with this besides the S8, but i'm sure the Exynos S8 will get more community support than the Snapdragon One

I'll never buy another Xiaomi. They violate Googles policy and take forever to release the kernel source. They won't even bother until the next model is out. Also, they have below par camera's and are slow with important updates. Their idea of a firmware update is to add something to the calculator, or improve their forum app. Lol. Downloading an entire ROM for that is a joke. Can't wait to sell my Mi 5s Plus.
Oneplus is the best way to go for custom ROM's. I wouldn't choose a phone just for that though, each to their own I guess.

i have a Xiaomi Mi 5 and i won't say that you are wrong lol, the camera is not the best in any means
anyways i'm guided to buy a phone by it performance and no other things, but that is just my case, so i'm good with the Mi5
the Mi 5s has Snap 821 if i'm not wrong? same as the OnePlus 3T, but it seems the 3T has a lot more roms than the Mi5S (and Mi Mix, this phone has Snap 821 too)
