nexus 7 2012 Usb otg and charging - Nexus 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi everyone
I've just been given a nexus 7 buy a family member who doesn't need it anymore.
I will mainly be using it to watch films. I understand the tablet is able to use USB OTG which is how I will watch films, what with the limited memory of the tablet. But has anyone managed to get it to charging at the same time?
Thanks in advance everyone.

HDMI In for Nexus 7?

Hey all i was kind of wondering if there was an adapter that could go into the micro usb port on my N7 and transmit HDMI in to it from an Xbox 360...I am an avid traveler and gamer and like to bring my xbox with me as well as my N7 every where I go and wanted to see if I could use the N7's crisp screen as a monitor (though it would be small obviously). Anyone know of such an adapter? I have been searching on Amazon for something like this but was not sure how to tell the difference between a standard HDMI output micro USB adapter to one that received input. Thanks in advance for any help I may receive

Short answer... no. Definitely not with any cable or adapter... as for wireless... I'm about 99.9% sure the answer is also no... not without setting up some sort of in-home personal cloud gaming server using your own game console then stream it over the air and sync a controller to your n7... lol that would be awesome... but afaik no such thing exists

[Q] buying Nexus 7 - newbie help

Hey there, i will be buying my first tablet - Nexus 7 (32gb) as i will be using it for gaming, reading, watching TV shows/movies etc
My main concern was regarding connecting storage devices
1. How could i connect the tablet with a USB Flash-drive? could i use an OTG USB Connector to sync the two so i can get data from my flash-drive via the tablet? is there a specific one i should get or any should work and where can i buy one. is it compatible?
2. As there is no HDMI input, how can i connect the tablet to my TV, if i wanted to show pictures on the TV. Could i get the MHL Cable HDMI connector, as i saw best buy carries them.
Thank you

yes this supports usb otg cable and it works flawlessely and you can also stream movies from usb flash drive
just google it how to use otg cable on nexus 7
and for the hdmi i doubt i heard that this tab doesnt support?? but still not sure
You can attach an OTG cable. You can either do it rooted or you can get apps to help you stream data from the external drive. Many people like to use Nexus media importer, though it's a paid app. People buy from 80 cent cables to $5+ ones and work fine. Just read reviews on what you plan to buy.
There is no HDMI support though in 4.2 update that is coming out soon, you can stream to your TV if you get an adapter.
While I love my N7, if you are huge on media consumption, you might want to look at the kindle fire HD. The only downside is that you are stuck in the amazon ecosystem but it has the HDMI support.

The above is only a rumor.. Its not confirmed.. Matter a fact there is some speculation that the device is not capable for full mira-cast encoding.

[Q] HDMI output from Nexus 7 ? Is it possible at all ?

Hello, I have a Google Nexus 7 tabled and I like it very much. The only flaw I see is the screen colors but for budget tablet is is ok.
I have a question: Does Nexus 7 supports any microUSB to HDMI cable ?
I have read numerous posts in the internet about how Nexus 7 does not support neither HDMI or OTG - but I have a OTG cable and it works great, mice, keyboards, flash drives and even a 1 TB external hard drive work great on the tablet.
So I bought this cable: http://www.ebay.com/itm/2-1-5ft-1-5...912&pid=100015&prg=1085&rk=1&sd=230893786628&
but after I received it - I can't make anytong to make the cable work.
does anyone have any info on how to make it work or is is a possibility at all to have HDMI output on Nexus 7.
thanks.
As far as I know, n7 doesn't support any kind of HDMI out. As they have labeled that item as for the nexus 7 they are wrong... Correct me if I'm wrong.

Nope, sorry but there is no way. Unless no way known to me...and believe me, I made a very wide research!

Games from USB OTG

Hello xda!
I want to buy from Canada an Nexus 4 16 GB. I think if the phone doesn't have a sd slot, i will have a problem with the memory :crying:
My music, films and other thing like this i will keep on dropbox or other app like this, i think. I heard if i have a usb otg and a stick, i can put my music, films and games on it! I know the music and film work great for that, but i can run games from usb otg? I think will be awesome to do this!
Please tell me if the usb otg work on Nexus 4 and if i can to run games from an usb!
http://www.amazon.ca/Micro-USB-OTG-...&qid=1365257026&sr=8-1&keywords=Micro+USB+OTG
This usb otg is compatible?
Thanks!
P.S. I don't know what to do! I want a new phone, because my phone is very, very old..but i don't have a tablet and Nexus 10 is perfect for me! And..nexus 10 with usb otg..
I belive Nexus 4 is best for me..My budget is maximum 350-400$.
I'm not from Canada or other country who have Google Play, but i have someone there and i want to buy me that phone for me! I want to know the price exactly. I know the Nexus 4 8GB is 300$ and Nexus 4 16GB is 350$, but exist other taxes or the transport is too much? How to buy the phone "from lower price" ?
And..the Nexus 10 32GB is awesome, but i don't have money for this!
Thank you! :victory:
P.P.S. I think I can buy the phone from America, but not so sure!
The Nexus 4 currently does not support otg out of the box. Due to it's hardware limitation it does not have enough power to power an otg cable. You will need to root the device and flash this custom and a y-otg cable. You will also need an external battery pack to power the otg feature as well.

Projector use with HDMI adapter

Hi guys,
Has anyone tried to use projector with a HDMI adapter plugged to Nexus 4? In work I use projector with my laptop for powerpoint and I was curious if it would be possible to do it on my Nexus 4.
There is one on amazon for £24, but before I buy it I would like to know if anyone had any experience in using it and how good the battery drain is, image quality etc.
Have a nice day guys and enjoy your Nexus 4
Yep, I use mine all the time. Mostly to play games or watch netflix but it should work with anything you want to do.

The method of connecting your Nexus to a projector via HDMI will be pretty much the same as if you were hooking it up to a TV. You need to make sure that the HDMI adapter you are looking at buying is a Slimport adapter, and not an MHL adapter, just in case you didn't know. As far as battery drain, you do have the option to plug in a charger while using slim port to help mitigate drain, but it's not required (unlike MHL where external power is required). I cannot comment on real-world expectations though
