Hi,
I'm new to this rooting thing, but I'm trying to root so I can tether. How can I root a Moto X Pure already on stock 6.0 from OTA update without unlocking the bootloader. I'm trying to preserve my warranty. Thanks.
You won't lose your hardware warranty

Will the exploit "Working Root Method For 5.0 Lollipop Roms [OE1] [OG5] [OK3] [PB1] [3-3-16]" work on Marshmallow after getting the MM ota (flashed stock G900VBPB1 prior to downloading)
No. Attempting it will most likely softbrick your device, and possibly hardbrick.

Nandr0idC0nsumer is correct, but you still can get root on MM even after having taken the OTA. However you will need to flash back to PB1, root PB1, then unlock the PB1 bootloader; after which you will need to do the MM bootloader Unlock and root method, http://forum.xda-developers.com/ver...t/rd-unlocking-galaxys-s5-bootloader-t3337909
Hello, a friend just got the Moto G4 Plus.
He wanted to root the device but wants to receive OTA updates as well.
Is that a possible thing?
Maybe with with systemless root?
The simple answer is YES and No {Yes} if you unroot+ uninstall xposed+ and flash stock recovery than you can update your phone. {NO} if you can't do it above mentioned step ) P.S. Flashfire doesn't work.
My mxpe is the first phone I haven't unlocked and rooted right away (I've been learning this stuff since my HTC Aria and froyo).
Question: with the new challenges rooting Nougat, would it be wiser to unlock and root now (I'm on stock 6.0) and wait for a flashable zip of Nougat, or wait and take the OTA when it comes and then root?
When I rooted my moto x2 I did so after taking the OTA to 6.0 and it was fine. I understand the systemless root for N is more complex.
Thoughts?
I literally just got one of these. I'm back with Moto after getting pissed off at LG.
I'm thinking I'm going to wait and see. I love the near stock experience with this phone I almost don't need root right now.
Unlocked boot loader wont matter unless lenovo locks the bootloader again without letting you unlock it. The thing about N being harder to root is for phones with locked boot loaders who cant just run full custom recovery...
See, there really isn't a reason not to (TWRP flash a pre-rooted ROM when N comes out if bad comes to worse). Still, N will not make it more/less rootable, so waiting is an option.
Screw it...I just unlocked the BL and rooted then installed one of the tweaked debloat Roms. Lol....didn't take me long to decide.
Hello dear community;
I want to root my Moto G4 Plus without unlocking bootloder. Is there any way to do it? In my Razr I is there any way to do it without unlocking... and both are Motorola.
Thank you
There isn't a way as far as I know - especially on Nougat, there's enforced kernel security defending against root 'attacks' (ostensibly to protect against malware, but rooting seems to trigger the security measures), and any attempt to root stock on a Moto G4 (without first flashing a custom kernel) may cause your device to bootloop. Currently, the safest way is to unlock your bootloader, then flash a custom kernel to bypass the security.
Thank you (Y)
Hello, I'm on the fence here.
Here I sit with my dear moto g4 play which I am about to root.
The only question standing in my way is regarding future nougat update (In case Lenovo actually releases it).
Below are my questions.
If I only root my phone now will I be able to get OTA once I restore the stock recovery?
I do not wish to try new roms but just have the root and be able to easily get future nougat update when it arrives, what would be the best way to do this?
