Hello, a friend just got the Moto G4 Plus.
He wanted to root the device but wants to receive OTA updates as well.
Is that a possible thing?
Maybe with with systemless root?
The simple answer is YES and No {Yes} if you unroot+ uninstall xposed+ and flash stock recovery than you can update your phone. {NO} if you can't do it above mentioned step ) P.S. Flashfire doesn't work.

Hey guys. Just got a G2 and I haven't really messed around with rooting or custom roms in a few years. I was wondering if it's possible to root and load a custom on this phone? I just got one earlier today, it has the latest OTA and it seems like a good phone so far. Is there a definitive guide or thread somewhere? I took a look and I'm not fully understanding all the terminology. Thanks!
Download and install http://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g3/orig-development/root-stump-root-lg-g3-sprint-verizon-t2850906 (Stump Root)
It will root your device with one tap.
After rooting download SuperSU and install
And for recovery download AutoRec http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2715496
Looking to buy this phone soon but I was just wondering about a few things. Im buying the canadian variant G935W8.
1. Can this device be rooted on nougat as well or only marshmallow? Im buying it brand new so I think it will probably be running the latest firmware.
2. Is there any issues with unlocking the bootloader? Is it neccesary to do so if you want root and custom roms?
the bootloader is not locked on the w8 as its the exynos variant and yes nougat can be rooted its the same as 935f

Thanks. Also another question I had. If the phone comes with marshmallow and I root it will I be able to install nougat roms directly or will I have to update the bootloader and modem? In that case would it be better to update it to nougat first and then root?
Updating your phone would cause you to lose root anyways as the file structure on nougat is completely different then marshmellow.
Rooting also prevents OTA updates, so you would end up having to install nougat manually.
I suggest you upgrade your software then root it. You can use systemless root from magisk. Using TWRP just flash the latest magisk file and you are rooted. The file will automatically root your phone as part of the installation process.

If you get it with MM (highly unlikely) just don't do anything and you should get an OTA notification otherwise you can download Odin, google it as I don't have a link and nougat from here https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=457095661767144483 and you can flash it yourself now rooting is a little different then it used to be do a search on the s7 edge for the info on that
the reason is yes you will need to download the BL not sure about modem but you might as well do it too
I just rooted my G935W8 running 7.0 by following the instructions in the first half of this video.
I am on 6.0 Marshmallow due to Moto X Pure not being updated. I am running stock. I really want to be able to see the emojis that my friends send me. If i root and flash Nougat Emojis? will that prevent me from getting the Nougat update via OTA?

Don't get your hopes up for nougat ota anyways...? But jokes aside you can root with magisk and still be able to take an OTA, but I dont know if it's risky, someone correct me if I'm wrong, but i was looking at this thread.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/apps/magisk/ota-updates-magisk-t3476091/page1
Since magisk is systemless, you can get the ota, and from what I get you can flash it with flashfure, but that's over my head, you'll have to do your own reading on that I don't know if you use any apps which use safety net right now(pokemon go, Android pay, Netflix, etc...) But if you head over to the magisk forums the latest stable version is v12 but it doesn't pass safety net. If safety net is necessary for your needs you'll have to flash the latest beta, and then flash away with the nougat emojis!!!
Hope this helps, let me know if you have any questions, and I think after taking an ota you'd have to reflash magisk to gain root again but you'd still have the emojis without root anyways.
Edit : as I wrote that last line it occurred to me...you only need an unclocked bootloader and a custom recovery like TWRP to flash zips! Check some guides on how to unlock the bootloader and flash twrp. So you wouldn't even need root as you don't need to touch the system partition. I hope the above info is useful info anyways, but for the emojis, head over to the TWRP site and check the Downloads for Clark, flash twrp, and then flash the emojis!
Hello, I'm on the fence here.
Here I sit with my dear moto g4 play which I am about to root.
The only question standing in my way is regarding future nougat update (In case Lenovo actually releases it).
Below are my questions.
If I only root my phone now will I be able to get OTA once I restore the stock recovery?
I do not wish to try new roms but just have the root and be able to easily get future nougat update when it arrives, what would be the best way to do this?
I have the LG v20 996us rooted with SuperSU running the latest update US99610n I want to switch to magisk but I don't know if I can can somebody please give me an answer and is it very difficult if it is possible at all with my latest software.
