Hello all, I recently received my brothers old Samsung Galaxy S4 I337M and unlocked it with the code provided when asked for after inserting my S3's WIND mobile SIM card. After this however, the phone refused to find the WIND network and would only wind 3 wind away networks which don't work. I spoke to a rep at my local WIND store and he told me that the model of phone I have does not support the 1700/2100 AWS frequencies and that I would need to take it to a flea market or other shop to enable them. I decided to look into this and try to fix it myself, however I have run into a wall after trying everything (including the very helpful guides on this website).
Some of the stuff I have tried:
1) QPST restoring the 337 AWS file onto my phone. This seemed to do nothing and I cannot choose the 1700 frequency in the *#2263# menu.
2) Flashing my firmware back to 4.4 from 5.0.1 (phone is currently still on 4.4 cause I like the UI much more)
3) Towelroot (I don't even remember why)
4) banging my face on my table in frustration
If anyone knows how to make this work I would really appreciate some help!
I assume you tried following these instructions? http://www.windmobile.ca/my-wind/faq/devices#79a34877-c3ee-6924-b2e4-ff0300f64c51 ? If you're still having trouble after that, a Custom ROM (like Dandhv's 5.1 GPE ROM, for example) SHOULD fix you right up, they usually include ALL the APN's/Settings you might need. And your phone will work tons better, and last forever, compared to bloated stock Touchpiss Android that Samsung ships it with.
afaik the WIND tech you spoke to straight-up lied, (WTF a FLEA MARKET is gonna do? Sell it? he likely just wanted you to stop asking questions and gtfo so he could push another iPhone6 and make a commission) there's nothing technical (like frequencies or whatnot) preventing you from switching carriers, so if the Wind instructions don't/didn't work, try 1) a CSC Changer app that has Canadian Carriers (IE WIND) from Playstore, and 2) Custom ROM. I'm not a dev, but I am a Canadian geek with the same device (mine's from Fido) who knows Android some and has been here for a while learning stuff, so I can prolly help out some (at least to walk you thru installtion of a ROM, if you want to try that.) PM me if interested.

Hi All....Firstly I apologise if I'm putting this thread in the wrong section but as a novice please forgive me...
I am thinking of buying the N700 from panamoz.com as it's cheap but they have said there units are imported from the far east and there for cannot guarantee if they will work in the UK...
so my questions to the forum are:
1. If a phone is unlocked wouldn't it work if I put a T-mobile sim in it?
2. as the phone is shipped in from the Far East some Eng(UK) apps won't , work or be available in English UK...if not is there a way to configure the phone for them to work...?
3. Would I need to Install Mobile phone specifics configurations in order for the note to work??
Thanks for your help in advance..
Neil
1. If it is factory unlocked then you should have no trouble using your UK T-Mobile SIM in it.
2. I don't see why any app wouldn't work on it, never encountered such an issue with any Android device I've used. If you do get issues then there's always custom roms .
3. You may have to set up the APN settings if you keep the stock foreign ROM, but that is easy and takes a couple of seconds with a single Google search. Of course custom roms generally have huge APN lists built in and would have your necessary configuration.
Hope that helps.

Remember to make sure it is an N7000 and note an I9220. They are different, albeit slightly.
Basically, I got a galaxy s5 on EE (a uk network) it was all good and fine until it got stolen, whoever took it knew what they were doing as I couldn't track it or look at any location history, they didn't get access to any of my stuff though thanks to my fingerprint but i'll get to the point.
my bank replaced it under home insurance (i wish they didn't) because they gave me a refurbished virgin mobile s5 and i'm with EE. so whenever I reset it on kies it installs all this virgin **** and different APN settings and so on. This has also now stopped me from getting any updates like lollipop, friends that have s5s all have it and i'm stuck on crappy kitkat with disgusting touchwiz. (i came from a nexus 5)
I went on sammobile.com and found an EE firmware (i tried putting a link in but it won't let me)
I tried flashing it and it gets to the last step "HIDDEN.img" and it fails. so from here i'm forced to reset it via kies and it puts all the virgin crap on it. is this because of the virgin csc? and is there any way i can make my phone a completely unlocked phone as if i brought it from samsung or something?
thanks.
Hi guys. Long time reader, been fortunate, but finally have to post a question.
Thanks up front, this forum is very awesome.
We are Verizon customers. I recently bought an SM-930P from a local guy. He's had his phone stolen, he got another, then it was recovered so he sold the replacement to me.
He called and made sure all was good and deactivated it before the sale.
Well from what I can tell, Sprint didn't push the unlock to the phone before he took it offline. From what I've gathered, the 930P is unusual in that it can't be manually unlocked via a code. Correct?
I called Sprint - (aside - boy it is very hard to get to a human being to talk to you if you aren't a customer) - the rep said, oh yes, the EMEI is OK, phone was paid off, we'll unlock it for you.
Yet it does not work.
Symptoms: My Verizon SIM won't work (just says invalid SIM), and when I tried a friend's SIM from their Spring S7 it also didn't work, said it was invalid.
Today I called Sprint back again, and this time the rep - this time it was somebody from the S7 tech group - said that the phone was still associated w/ the other guy's account. Since I didn't have authorization on the account she wouldn't do anything else. So now I have heard 2 different stories from Sprint.
Well, that guy is in the Army and can't be reached now to call himself.
So, I need to have it unlocked, but I'm stuck. I don't care about Sprint b/c I want to use it on Verizon.
Am I correct that the only option is to do a USB direct-connect unlock, like some people are offering as services (through eBay etc)? My understanding is that they manually update the phone so it thinks it's getting the unlock from the carrier?
And although I don't intend to use Sprint - what happens if, later, I or somebody else wants to put it back on Sprint if it has been unlocked this way? Will there be a whitelist issue with their records?
Thanks

I used the Android Doctor, a quick Google search will find it. Super easy, remote unlock...they will stay in contact with you and make sure your phone works before they charge you. Reasonable price. I've done my s7 and s7 edge. Both work flawlessly. I'm on Straight Talk/AT&T.
Just as an update - yes, after more reading what I learned was that the USB-key approach is the only solution to this.
I went through GSM-Zambia.com - pretty much the same as Android Doctor but slightly cheaper.
That did the trick.
Also FYI - once it was unlocked, I flashed the based G930u version firmware - the one intended for unlocked, non-carrier specific phones - instead of the G930p as intended for Sprint. No problems w/ it whatsoever, seems to have all the radio bands active AND no bloatware.
Only hitch was that I still had to call Verizon and work w/ a tech to activate it on their network b/c if you give the IMEI online to do it manually yourself it just complains that they don't recognize it as compatible.
Ok, I know this will be long, but I'll try to keep it short. Thanks again for your help.
I have an s7 sprint phone, after calling for two weeks and hearing the same tune, they unlocked my phone. I switched to tmobile and have a loaner phone even as of now because of stupid sprint. When I put the tmobile sim card in it says invalid sim card. So, I go to sprint and they said yes it is in fact unlocked. The guy seems really he wants to help, He can't get the t mobile sim to work also, matter of fact there is no options for network apn or nothing with the new t mobile sim card in. You have to put in the old sim card from sprint and there is the options. He even tried to some how change apn there on the spot by swapping sims while the sprint sim gave him options. He typed in all the t mobile info from t mobile site and it says unrestricted network. So he said its prob. sprints software locking the other networks. He said t mobile will have to flash it with their software. I go back to t mobile they have no idea what flashing even is. Unlike the sprint store they don't have a tech room with workers dedicated to working on phones.
SO, basically I'm trying to say my phone shows unlock on their side but i'm not to sure if it's showing it on myside. I can't use my phone at all i'm paying t mobile loaner j7 phone and stuck with an almost brand new s7 that either side has no idea. T mobile says its not unlocked over and over, sprint is saying it is unlocked.
I found a similar post at sprint, but it dead ended with nothing.. I can't post links, but by reading it you may understand more it's on the sprint site titled: samsung galaxy s7 edge SIM unlock
Thanks so much to whom ever can help. Have a nice day. I'm sizzling here

I have a Galaxy S7 N930P from Sprint that I use here in Canada. I ended up flashing the unlocked N930U firmware (the Sprint variant), and all works well now. No Sprint bloatware, full access to my APNs again, unlocked bands, etc. I had to get the new firmware from SamFirm (or Sammobile), connect phone to computer via USB, reboot to download mode, run odin, then flashed the BL, AP, CP, and CSC (not the home CSC...the other one) files in the firmware's .zip using Odin 3.12.7. Worked for me, and sounds like something that might work in your case too. Worth exploring at least
Try flashing the unbranded firmware or if you moving to T-Mobile you can flash the T-Mobile branded firmware too.

Sorry for hijacking the tread - what will happen if I flash Tmo or U firmware into locked Sprint phone?

First off, changing the firmware will not sim unlock the the sprint device, if you do flash to say a tmo branded firmware you will basically have a tmo branded device but still locked to Sprint. same thing applies if you flash the U firmware on a locked sprint device.
It's best to first have sprint unlock the device remotely then flash tmo or u firmware.
I've been on AlphaOmega ROM and want to revert back to stock as I'm selling the phone but I'm a little stuck. I've downloaded what I thought was the correct ROM
VS99520c_01_1110_ARB00.kdz (region VRZ)
and then tried
VS9951AA_01_0122_ARB00.kdz (region VRS)
The reason I'm stuck is I'm getting a notification saying Verizon Wireless does not recognise my sim. I'm in the UK (imported from Hong Kong) and quiet happily have used the mobile network data & voice on various providers though probably not as well as a phone intended for the UK market. It's my own fault for not backing up the original ROM I know :crying:
The other thing is and I'm not sure if I'm imagining this but I'm pretty sure when it used to complain about the sim which it would after every reboot it would say Verizon and not Verizon Wireless and it would still manage to pick up the local bands. Now I'm getting nothing, nada!
So any pointers would be appreciated :fingers-crossed: Am I using the wrong ROM?
