How to change QWERTZ keyboard layout to act like QWERTY? - BlackBerry Priv

I just activated a Blackberry Priv. However, i now notice that the lovely hardware keyboard is QWERTZ layout instead of QWERTY.
How do you switch the language/layout of the hardware keyboard? I cant find any information on this with google - only information on other blackberry devices. I don't get it, since I have the keyboard set to US English in the settings panel. There doesn't seem to be any other option regarding the layout?

My keyboard is QWERTY as it should be.
1) Did you update Blackberry apps from the Play store? If blackberry apps don't show in play store, then just search for "blackberry" in the play store and all needed apps will appear and update button will show.
If you have already done the first step, then go to settings>language & input>blackberry keyboard settings>input languages and here might be an update to the specific language.

I've updated the blackberry software, but still no options seem to effect the hardware keyboard. I can change the layout of the software keyboard, but it only seems to apply to the software keyboard.

By the way, do you see the on-screen keyboard when physical one is open?

No, I don't see software keyboard on screen when the hardware keyboard is out. Am I supposed to? That seems like it would be undesirable. I see just three suggested words along the bottom of the screen.

any luck with this? i would love to change freom qwerty to qwertz and have actuallz physically changed the keyboard already... but the setting to change it is missing

Same here. Just bought BlackBerry Priv with psysical qwertz and found that there is no tweak keys for that. I would like to change these letters virtualy, to press z and get y and opposite. How to do this. Help!

This will help solving it, install and swap y and z https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=innerlife.keyboard.multilanguagekeymapredefiner

just wanted to comment and say this helped me a ton with my key2 thanks so much @Mr.PeterAmgad!!

Thanks, this worked! But now the number 7 is mapped to the Z key (alt + z), and alt + y brings out parenthesis. It's not a huge issue, but it seems there is not way remap alt + y so it will output 7 as it is in the original layout.
Also it seems there is no autocorrect available at all when using this keyboard? I was relying on autocorrect to put the right accents in Spanish, I can't seem to be able to enable this again even if I switch the language to Spanish.

In the end I created a custom QWERTZ to QWERTY keyboard for AnySoftKeyboard. It solves the issue of having Y mapped to parenthesis and Z to number 7 I mentioned above.
I made them for both English and Spanish (the Spanish one lets you write "ñ" by pressing "n" three times).
I also made a custom build of AnySoftKeyboard that make predictions work with the Key2 hardware keyboard. But if you just want the remapping, it works the fine with the official AnySoftKeyboard, just predictions don't work unless you use the on-screen keyboard.
Only tested with the BB Key2.

Hello raymccoy,
i tryed your workaround, but its not working on my Key2. I installt the Anysoftkeyboad from Your attachments and your languages apks. But my physical Keyboard does not change the layout. Can you tell me the steps to install?
Thanks
Marc

it does not work for me either. it does not remap anything, furthermore it crashes

I have to correct myself! it works, but it's necessary to install the last version of the app (from Playstore) to prevent it from crashing... AND it's necessary to show the virtual keyboard, otherwise physical keyboard remapping will not take place. Thankfully, the virtual keyboard can be made really tinyn so it will not be too invasive on the screen (see screenshot). Tested on BB Key2.

WATCH: Big Full/Semi Qwerty installation HAZARD

The semi-qwerty keyboard cab file is available if you google it. However after installing it, I realize the accent key on my physical keyboard does not work anymore.
This is the answer I got on the other forum:
can't be help, because the key actions are defined according to the keyboard layout, and the default layout which includes the accent key is being overwritten by the cab file. You probably can revert back to stock keyboard layout and the semi-qwerty/full-qwerty/phonepad SIP, but you probably will lose the T9 function.
alternatively, use the symbol key to type the accent characters.
Does someone knows how to solve this problem so both Full/Semi Qwerty and physical keyboard work together.. especially cause i'm using Croatian letters čćšđž
THX
I just realized I have the same problem. Maybe someone can help us have both accent letters and Touch HD virtual keyboard...
Is this only registry problem or maybe have to change some dll? anybody?
Up! Maybe someone has an idea.
nothing to do?
blackstone keyboard is the best but we wan't to resolve the accent issue...please help!!
nothing?
You could try this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=479464
Doesn't mess with the àü key.
Ok, I tried that keyboard, but it doesn't restore the accent key functionality. Maybe after a hard reset, but I wanted to avoid it.
Same problem here. Blackstone keyboard does my "au" hardware key unuseful - it dos not work.
Also T9 does not work with hardware keyboard.
I think HR is the only way for me - and you at this moment
Would SPB Keyboard 4.1 work without messing up the accent button? Is it any good?
I have the same problem, but with the Touch Diamond 2 keybord. It's really annoying
I had to lose all my data to update the firmware. After that I tried the SPB Keyboard and it's really good. It has layouts for a lot of languages and the accent key works.
ive used version 1 of this and it did not mess with my keyboard. this is the new version that just came out. i havent tried it because version 1 is working good enough for me.

[Q] DZ from HK, hardware keyboard symbol layout not match with Software???

Dear follow DZ owner:
Just bought my DZ today, and disappointed to find a hardware problem.
1. the "printing" of the symbol on the hardware keyboard doesn't match with the soft keyboard, this creates a lot of trouble for the user who get used to the standard HTC layout. e.g. # is on S key and $ is on D key while on soft keyboard @ is on S and # is on D
2. the strange thing is the symbol output from the hardware keyboard IS indeed still based on the soft keyboard layout, which means what you type on the hardware keyboard is NOT what you get from output on the screen.
e.g. printing of the # is on the S key, however output generates by long press S is @ and the worst is output by pressing FN + S gives #.
I didn't see anyone discussing this issue. Am I the only one that is bug by this problem/issue???
In your second picture, it shows that your on-screen keyboard is the English keyboard ("EN"). Press the soft key towards bottom left and you should be able to select different languages, is there one that matches better in that list ?

Sorry, what I was trying to point out is that, when a key combine with FN its output is not the same as long press on a key.
Will remapping keys help fix this problem?
I'm also using HK version, but I don't use the built-in IME since I type in PinYin普通话拼音, didn't notice that issue.

The reason its like this is simple.
The hardware keyboard has its own design, made to make our use easier (according to the guys at HTC), however this keyboard still runs on the SAME software used to run the on screen touch keyboard this is why when you do things like long press you still get certain behaviours of the touch keyboard.
You will either need to remap, or just simply get used to the new layout, it will happen over time.
@OP: your key map doesn't match your physical keyboard.
@Lennyuk: No.

That's the whole point, the stupid HTC guy think the new key layout will help the user. The truth is they are re inventing the wheel.

[Q] how to change hardware keyboard layout?

Dear all:
I have been able to convert my German X2 successfully into Dutch/Belgian language using the information contained in another thread.
However, I am now faced with Dutch/Belgian language, with a corresponding AZERTY keyboard layout.
The trouble is that the German hardware QWERZU keyboard is now also typing in AZERTY layout and the keys do not correspond.
Question: how can one change the hardware keyboard layout in such a way that it reverts back to the German QWERZU so that I can at least see what I type?
I have searched all over this forum and elsewhere on the net, but found no working solutions so far. The solutions that were offered, do not seem to work.
Has anybody managed in doing so succesfully? If so, I would greatly appreciate urgent feedback as this is really annoying right now. Thank you so much.

you should use the AE Keyboard Mapper to replace the hardware keyboard layout, for AE Keyboard Mapper intentionally a specially designed key mapping almost all external or built-in hardware keyboard or keypad is connected to a Windows Mobile device. You can use it for "localizing" keyboards (if there is no support from the OEM keyboard driver on your language) or just for the mapping of some keys (like the conversion from AZERTY to QUERTY, the addition function by disabling the Ctrl key or application key binding).
my advice, you just visit his WebSite to get more information and also download it ---> http://ae.inc.ru/aekmap.php
Thanks for the hint. Downloaded and tried it but somehow I cannot choose any other layout than Russian. Even if I type in "German" instead of English, nothing happens.
I also tried out hints pertaining to the X1 (changing the registry etc) but these do not work either as the relevant registry lines do not appear. I guess there must be a difference between X1 and X2 in this respect.
All very disappointing I should say.

[Q] Strange keyboard behavior after firmware update

Hi!
My TF101 did its firmware update recently, and I noticed this afternoon that I can't use the QWERTZ layout for my keyboard (QWERTZ keyboard, BTW). I didn't have the problem before.
Everywhere in the settings, all keyboards (asus keyboard, dock keyboard) are set to French-swiss (that's the QWERTZ layout), and the dock is acting like a QWERTY. I rebooted, and search the forum, I discovered some had this problem in may 2011, but I haven't been able to find the thread answering the problem.
I don't know what to do, it's a real problem. I don't mind using any keyboard, even one with completely blank keys, as long as it acts like a QWERTZ. But a QWERTY is a real problem, I don't have the accentuated letters and the ç. (ç is ok, I don't really care, it's not that used, but the é,à,è, ^, etc. are used all the time).
What should I do ? Before the update, there wasn't any problem.
Thanks for your suggestions !
Edit : actually, I got my keyboard back by selecting as default input mode the asus keyboard. Normally, it switched automatically when the dock is connected, but apparently the update changed that. Anyway, I'm still interested in why such a hassle is necessary to remap dock keyboard when it should be doable in the parameters. Or there is something I haven't really understood ? I'd really like to know, I'm interested in these kinds of stuff. Moreover, I need to remap my Vaio P keyboard for the instant mode as no qwertz keyboard exists, but it's a proprietary system, so I guess I'll probably never be able to remap it...

Changing virtual Keyboard on Android

Hi!
Perhaps I'm being stupid and there is a way I cannot find but it's there. But I'm unable to discover how can I set different keyboards for the halo and the virtual one.
I would not like the same actions on both. For example, when in Halo, no autocorrection - specially on another language -, no auto capital letters after period, no space after inserted word, etc...) and I can adjust everything properly with the pal keyboard that comes with the tablet (and probably that will be the best working with this keyboard). But I would prefer thousand times to use the google keyboard when in tab mode, writing on the virtual keyboard. Not only I'm used to it, and it's the ones I use on my phone (so, it's more comfortable to have the same behaviour), but really I like it much more, and also I can have it configured in a different way (with autocorrection, space after word insert, and so on) that makes sense for me in a virtual keyboard, but not in a physical (or nearly physical) one like the Halo.
¿Any suggestion? Would be something that would make my experience with this tab wonderful...
Thx

For the virtual one, while typing mode (cursor on a field) look at the lower right of your taskbar. You should see a keyboard icon click it and set the input methods and settings there.
Yes, thanks, I'm aware of that. I meant to set different keyboards for virtual and physycal, not chainging each time...It seems not possible. It's a pitty. For spanish writing, dead keys are needen for accented vowels (á, é, ...) and it does not work properly in this keyboard on any keyboard but the special TouchPal that comes with the tab. But this is not a very comfortable virtual keyboard (and you have to disable adding spaces or capital letters to have a natural typing when physical). So I will have to change between them each time I change from physical to virtual. Fortunately, I'm doing most things on the halo, so I can manage.

Thanks, but that's not the point. As virtual keyboards there are many that work fine (I use google one, and love it).
The problem is that the Halo keyboard is not a real one, and when not in international English Qwerty (mine is Spanish) does the accented related things in a non standard way (first it drows the special accent character like ´ and then mixes it with the vowel, to give á or é or so. That's not how dead keys really work. It seems like a strange personalization of the keyboard for another languages that only works with its provided TouchPal. So, no other keyboard will work for writing in Spanish with Halo (and mine is physically impressed in Spanish, and I write usually in Spanish, so, I have no other option). But the adjustments, like the auto capitals and correction, added spaces and so (and the own TouchPal, that does not fit me as a virtual keyboard) to make it work fine as a "real" keyboard, are not good for a virtual one. So, I have to change among two different keyboards when I go for laptop mode to screen one.
Google keyboard, as a matter of fact, does fine with the halo. It needs no special adjustments, understands properly how works a real keyboard and a virtual one, needing no special adjustments... but cannot handle the á é í .... characters (basic in Spanish) because of the non standard procedure by the Halo. So, it's my choice for the virtual, but does not work (unless I'm writing english and don't need the accented characters) with halo.
I probably could use External Keyboard Helper to manage also efficiently dead keys (it's so programmable...), but, once again, would be useful just for Halo, but has no virtual interface.
So, I see that there is no option to have two different default keyboard apps for virtual and Halo, and that makes me to have to change continuously between both.
It's a pitty. Don't think that should be difficult to implement by Lenovo, and would have made live much more easy, really...
Thx
