Hi all, I recently purchased a nexus 6p, very impressed with it, great phone, the only issue I have faced is when I ejected the sim tray, the little handle on the sim tray has a slight free play, in experience I have never come across this on my nexus 5, 5x, and other phones I've owned or put a sim in. Please confirm with me and check if ur sintray handle has a very slight free play, thankyou.

I did not notice anything funny about mine when I put it in. It's nice and snug now too. I tried to see if it would wiggle with my fingernail but it is solid. If you think it feels defective though trade it soon so you get in the replacement window.

That's weird, mine feels solid too, and had a snug fit, but just when I took the sim tray out it just wiggles very slightly, its not much of a major issue to hand in for replacement, if it breaks then I will. Thanks for ur testing.

Hey guys...this is my first post in here, so please go easy on me. So, i have been in love with The nexus 7 since the day it was released. I have seen all kind of videos/reviews and thought that it is a perfect fit for me. But what i'm scared about is the durability of Nexus 7's screen. I have been hovering over Xda and specially in the Nexus 7 forum and found a lot of criticism regarding its screen cracks and poor build quality.
The thing is I live in Bangladesh, where i wont be able to enjoy any warranties or guarantees(actually I will get a one-day replacement warranty and that's it). Also, it is highly likely that i wont find the necessary equipment to fix it myself. I found only a single case cover for the Nexus which is the poetic brand slimline(Is that any good ? ). Nexus 7 16Gb version costs around $320 here
All this makes me doubt to purchase the awesome gadget and rather settle for the sub-standard Galaxy tab 2 7.0 3G which costs around the same.
But then again...i feel like I wont be able to happily enjoy any other set as i have been in love with Nexus 7 for the last 6 months. So, as u guys can seen that i'm real in pickle. So any advice will go a long way for me. Is Nexus 7 really worth the risk ?
Thanks.
Just don't drop it, any screen can crack that way. Also get a screen protector, the glass does scratch relatively easy.
Fun story. I got an 8gb nexus from the first batch that were made. But I don't currently live in the US, so I ran a huge gamble by ordering one and having my family send it out to me in Asia. Worked *perfectly* until I went back to the US for Thanksgiving. Then, somehow, I blew out the speaker. I was able to get in touch with Google and get it swapped out in under a week, returned to Asia with my new 8GB (no magic upgrade, drat) and we've been happy ever since.
I don't think it's really any risk. The majority who complain about the nexus are a minority of the owners.
Also keep in mind you will hear more horror stories from pissed off owners than stories of folks reporting zero issues

Well that is true and reassuring.
I'd say go for it. As for screen cracking for "no reason", I always wonder just how much truth there is to those stories. I've been perfectly happy with my nexus 7, and it has none of the "so common" problems.

My friend got his 16gig N7 the day it came out and has had zero hardware issues with it. Gotta give credit to magiconthetire as well, he hit the nail on the head. When things go wrong it's the end of the world. But when things go right, you won't even know anything is happening at all.
Also I picked up the Poetic Slim case you mentioned and I really like it. The only draw back is how close the case comes to the bezel on the edges of the screen; if you have big hands or don't hit the bottom navigation bar or top notification bar at the right angle...the case sort of gets in the way. My solution to that is using a stylus for more accurate precision. The stylus also makes typing significantly easier, especially if you use gesture typing such as Swype, SwiftKey Flow, etc.
OP if you know someone you trust in Europe, USA, or even Australia. Get them to buy the tablet for you and ship it out to you. Even with shipping it will be a lot less than $320, if it breaks for something that is under warranty send it back to them and they can return it for repairs.
Cheers Danny

I've only had mine for a couple of weeks and so far no issues here. This is under pretty heavy use as well, as I take my Nexus 7 with me everywhere that I go. The case works really well though, it has a snug fit on the N7 so it doesn't move around inside of it at all, the smart cover that turns the screen on when you open the flap back has worked flawlessly, the hand strap for the back is really nice for using it in portrait mode while laying in bed or for just holding it up during prolonged periods, and the landscape stand is a little tricky to figure out at fist...but works just fine once you figure it out. I'd recommend some kind of sound toggle app for your notification bar as well, because the case does make it a bit of a pain to reach the physical buttons. But that's not really Poetic's fault, the way the buttons angle down with the curve of the backside of the tablet makes them kind of annoying for any case that doesn't have the same slope on it.
As far as stylus' go, I heard good things about this one and it was still fairly cheap...I just got it in the mail a couple of days ago but so far, so good:

The thing is i need to wait for 3-4 months to receive any accessories for the nexus 7. So, meanwhile i need to live with the poetic brand as its the only one around.

I have dropped mine a few times from different heights on different surfaces and its fine. But if you drop it right it will probably shatter, just get a case. Something like this if you are really clumsy.

Asus have international warranty for it.
Beamed from my Maguro.
If you ever want to buy a case throughout the internet I'd be more than happy to help a fellow owner out and re-ship to you!
I don't want to persuade you not to get one because I love the n7 and think everyone should have one, but i just broke my second one. My daughter dropped the first one and the corner of the screen shattered. I didn't have insurance because I've never dropped or lost a phone or laptop or anything, so it cost full price to replace it.
I had the second one in my back pocket, bent down, and screwed up the screen. My pants aren't tight but my butt put a little bit of leverage on the middle of the screen and broke it. When I turned it on later, the screen has a discolored line through it and a pattern of random lines on each side and no normal picture. The screen glass didn't crack, but the screen internals must have. I paid $50 for insurance so I hope it will be replaced with no hassle.
Long story short, I'll never use an n7 without a protective case again, and I've never used a case on any device.
Thanks a lot guys....I have taken all the advice into consideration and have found a satisfying solution. Gonna wait three months and buy through a friend in US.
Edit : How can I close the thread ?

Lovely phone. Lovely lovely lovely.
The thing is, if one rotates the phone in your hand so the rear of it is facing you and gently tap in the top left of he case, I hear a small rattle, almost like something is not seated properly or someone's not tightened a screw up.
Anyone else got this? Funnily enough I'm not too fussed about sending it back because in the past (with my Nexus 7) they've been very quick.
I have it too. But it's not too loud. If it happens when I shake the phone too much. I hardly notice it now.

Camera focus is what it's said to be. They all have it to some degree (including non-nexus phones).
Interesting, and thanks for replying!
The chap on the end of the phone at Google Play Support said there was a known issue with a rattle nearby the sim tray but this was "new to him". He's arranging an RMA so if the replacement has the same problem I'll just have to lump it - until the GoogleMotorolaNexus comes out
someone else might have asked,
Maybe?

It's common to all n4 phones. Your replacment will do this too. Hope that helps.
Hahahaha awesome collection of threads. You're probably correct. My first thought was the gyroscope for some reason. Anywho...
The rattle that a lot of people have is not the camera focus,it is much louder and much easier to recreate. It is a part of the sim card ejector, if you take it out and look, you can see it move with the rattle.
I can add pictures of the double taped box if anyone wants but basically it looks like my Nexus 4 replacement box has been opened and re-taped again. The first Nexus 4 I had shipped had only one set of black tape to seal the box but my Nexus 4 replacement has had the tape taped over as if the box has been opened. Has anyone else received a box that has had the first set of tape taped over? I sent google an email and the person I talked to told me that the device is in fact brand new and they do not sell refurbished devices.
Also, the sim opening tool bag looks like it has been opened and re-taped as well except not with an extra piece of tape this time but with either the original tape that came with it or another piece, but the bag is damaged as if it has been opened already. Anyone know what is going on with this? I have a feeling they may have checked the device to make sure there was nothing wrong with it, like the problem that made me send it back in the first place but I would really like to know the reason for this.
Please, anyone, if you have had the same thing happen or know why this has happened, please let me know!
Thanks for your time and interest.
Just check for scratches / problems. If it seems/ feels and responds well then don't break your head over it. If you have even the slightest scratch though, then do something about it. Otherwise I don't know if it matters

Well how else would the Fed have been able to install the tracking/eavesdropping software that is now monitoring your every move.
Honestly , mine didn't even have a sticker - bought before yesterday. But alone the fact that it had that front and back sticker (which after removing good luck putting it back on perfectly). left me with some confidence. I was worried at first but after seeing the state the phone is in I thought who cares as long as it seems new and has no scuffs/scratches. I can't stop emphasizing on how much I love my first nexus phone (3rd - 4th android phone). Simply gorgeous.

As the title says, I'm on my 2nd 32gb aluminum 6p and unsure of what to do next.
The first had numerous problems, random reboots, crashes and NFC issues too. NFC would only work intermittently and only in contact with whatever it was exchanging info with. Other NFC devices just had to be close.
The replacement came yesterday but the screen is so yellow and still NFC issues.
I know where to place the phone for NFC and have no troubles with my N4 or N6 but as I say, it works intermittently only and only then when moved around.
I really like the phone, camera, fingerprint reader etc but after 2 models with issues I'm not sure whether I should try a third.

Thanks - the yellow is too off putting, its really strong. The NFC is really bothering me, is it weak in this phone? I've found others with similar issues on the net. If I could have a 6p with fully working NFC, no lags, reboots or holdups, and no tinted screen, I'd be very happy.
Just RMA it: I am on my third one because of the yellow/pink screen issue and the new replacement has it. This one probably will go back and then I am done with it and will wait till next year's model. Still loving my N6 though, despite weaker camera and lack of fingerprint scanner and slightly wider form factor.
In regards to your NFC issue. Do you try putting the visor near to the NFC device? I get better results that way.

My position too, I'm even using the N6 now and it's the new camera and fingerprint sensor from the 6p I'm missing most. As stupid as it sounds, I'm considering a different size or colour 6p. OK, that itself won't solve anything, but kind of going off the aluminium one now!

Yep, tried all areas of the visor plus the exact spot mentioned on the instructions - which seems to work the least best of all. That's concerning, having nfc problems with both devices. I've eeven tried my own NFC tags at home. N6 and N4, no problems, both reliable and work 100%. N6P, both models, a few times at best.
These aren't cheap phones. If you're not 100% happy, return it.
Thanks - I've had another chat with Google, they've said that the colour is a known issue and to give it two weeks to resolve itself which im not entirely happy about to be honest.

Thanks - that might well be what I do. Funily enough the yellow screen one is a little less yellow today! Still, whatever the problem is even if it does resolve itself, it doesn't make you think well for the build of the device.

I know I know what a noob question we have here ! it's just I am new to nano sims , I received my galaxy s7 edge yesterday, I took my old sim today to a near mobile shop to have it cut and when i went home i tried to install it but it didn't fit inside my phone I tried with some pressure but it just didn't so I had to cut a little bit more of its width and apparently I went so far now its length fits in the sim holder but its width is short...what I want to say is the sim doesn't stick to the holder it's loose , I took the holder out several times to make sure that the sim didn't fall inside the phone and it didn't, I am a little bit obsessive can a loose sim card affect phone performance? causing lag, bad signal, whatsoever?
MementoM said:
I cut mine at home and mine also needed to be shaved a bit for it too fit and now it's smaller and also does not fit in the sim tray perfectly. Mine still acts the same I get better network speed with an AT&T phone and a little less with an international model. I wouldn't be to worried. You should see my SIM card its trashed it looks uneven and the gold data part is all scratched up.
