Which custom rom should i use! - Desire 816 General

Hi guys,
have been using htc desire 816 for like 1.3 year and it is still working great , just some issues with camera ! anyone else having this problem ? I mean what you do to customize the setting for better performance? I see nowadays a lot of noise in the pictures and not very clear as well! Also thinking of giving the custom roms a try which one is best you think in case of performance & design
What are the must use app to make it stand out , as you can see the device is old and we have to compete with giant devices , so not buying those but using this one to come close in taking selfies and photos and using apps as well.
Also one last thing after the last lollipop update looks like the storage is eaten up by something how to increase the space like before! cause i can hardly install 20-22 apps in total and it fills up!
Thanks in advance and it's good to be back in xda after long time!

I wouldn't use any custom rom, there is no stable one for the device they'r all buggy as hell
use xposed and do w/e you want
as for the storage I use link2sd, it works

Resurrection remix is Fine.

If the camera is your main issue, use Z camera. Touch to focus-snap setting enabled makes It the best &quickest.

Is OMNIA 2 Worth it??

Hi all,
I am thinking of selling my Xperia X1, that still is a great phone, but I wanted something faster.
I am considering Omnia 2, because of the battery life. As it carries the same battery capacity as Xperia, I would like to know how it performs.
My other choice was HTC HD2, but when I heard that I could not be sure it would even last me one day, I started looking for something different.
I want a WM phone, as all the programs I have (like GPS Tomtom) run on WM and I am used to it right now.
When I read some reviews about Omnia 2, I got the impression that the Samsung skin is slow and not very useful. I would like to ask if there are some good ROMS for it that solve the problem, and if you think it is worth moving from X1 to Omnia 2, or should I just go HD2.
Thank you all for the input.
UI performance with rom that my O2 shipped (I8000NIL5) was poor. Every time you switched screen widgets reloaded and this took time - just watch some review video and you will know what am I talking about.
Now I am using I8000NJD3 rom (by the way, it is WM 6.5.3) and UI runs smoothly. It is really a big difference! Plus you can choose between widgetplus and samsung today home screens (like work and life mode with B7610). Samsung's cube and main menu are gone but if you ask me they were useless. Also all the programs are updated but there is still room for enhancements.
For me, battery lasts for 2 days - hour or two of conversation, few messages and some web browsing using wi-fi. Decent performance I think.
Well with heavy use I can not get through all day without charging but that is the story with all phones on market.
You mentioned GPS program. It takes few minutes to get a fix on cold start on a sunny day.
And, when I bought a new phone I was choosing between O2 and HD2 too. Decided for O2 because I got it for ahalf of HD2's price (talking about carrier's price, not retail!). I am pretty satisfied with decision.
I had the same choice as well and chose the O2 over the HD2.
I am happy with my little "Sammy" as well.
Mr Frog
I think my Omnia 2 (i920) battery has only died once since having the phone since December. I use internet and messaging pretty heavily daily. I have no problem getting a day to two days worth out of a full charge.
The samsung widget interface isn't the best, definitely laggy and widgets are unresponsive or disappear at times.. but that's why I don't use it
There are tons of other UI's though, the one I've been using and like the best is throttle launcher..
The thing I like most about Omnia 2 is the swype keyboard, makes typing really fast once you get used to it.
The one issue I have had with this phone is that incoming phone calls or text messages will sometimes go unnoticed. That is because the ringer will not sound, yes even when volume is on full. It seems a lot of other people have been having this problem too.. It happens about 40% of the time and is rather annoying.
If I had a choice between HD2 and this phone I would definitely not purchase this one again. Overall it is a good phone, I am just tired of Omnias (had Omnia i910 too). They seem to be late to market with features and so on, not really ahead of the curve..

Never had this problem. But I have I8000, not I920.
out of the box this phone (i8000) is a peace of **** that you will just want to throw away. But thanks to cookers that issue is solved this phone dose everything you need. Using a custom lite ROM i get around 100MB of usable memory vs the 40MB on stock. I read many reviews on this phone as well and was a bit worried about it but took the plunge and could not be happier, the fact it had such bad reviews made it that much more cheaper when i went to purchase a new phone. So in the end it was a great deal for me and the hardware is still amazing for this phone, yeah it not your 1GHz snapdragon but still good enough. I just hope samsung do not forget out this phone and continue to support it, mainly adding openGL support. They have been very good with updates thus far and now its 6.5.3 so it getting better.
This phone has 2 major problems
1.) Low RAM which can be fixed by using a lite ROM, although i hope future updates reduce the reserved RAM.
2.) OpenGL driver, this phones dose not have any. I did not take this into account when i bought the phone. I thought it would just work and all apps won't have any issues and i was wrong. There are devs working on the drivers like chainfire and they do fix many apps like sences and the such but again its not fully featured drivers.
So if you buy this phone you will have to flash and tweak it to get a everyday usable phone.
p.S wtf how do you guys have swype as the default keyboard?

Only I920 has Swype preinstalled.
ohh i wonder if i can get my hands on a cab
Thank you very much for the input. It was very helpful to see what users think about their devices. It makes me sad to see such a great phone, with an OLED screen and a big batterylife, with such poor software. I like WM phones, and I do not think I will switch to android that fast, but the only usable WM phone is HD2 and that has a battery life of an hybrid car (2km just on battery). If you use it moderatly it will not even last you one day.
I hope that this phone will at least have good gps tracking, better batt life, and that with a custom rom it will be faster then my Xperia X1.
If anyone wants to add something new about this phone, just post it here.

Many here currently using kydkylin sence ROM although its a bit slow still a lot faster then stock, just avoid using the music tab if you want to keep RAM usually have 50-60MB after full day. Or if you want the litest ROM there is tw2 JE1 gives around 103MB on boot.
Thanks a lot.

I posted answer in this thread you started.
As said there, roms mentioned there are made by Samsung but can't get them via PC Studio, so I don't know if I can say that this is official upgrade (decide by yourself ).

I quite agree with most points made here, but there's a lot more to this phone than what you get out of the box.
Once you've registered on this and Modaco's forum the possibilities are virtually endless with the i8000.
When I first got this phone I nearly sent it back because of the lagging and I fancied an Android device( I still hunker after the Galaxy S now ) but I have stuck with the i8000 and I am very happy with it thanks to the great people cooking roms out there!
Omnia II is wonderful
I think this phone need excellent people to cook for it. I'm waiting for Energy ROMs to come.
* The camera is realy nice with alot of features to make nice pictures.
* Video recording is wonderful with 720 pixels recording. "I used daiamond, touch pro & HD from HTC. I will tell you it is wonderful and the difference is big.
* The samsung applications are nice and you will see tha the samsung taste is there in all applications. Sometimes you will forget yourself as being using WM!!. It is another taste.
* The battery is really having good life of more than one day for sure
* The processor is 800, the screen is much better then that of HTC.
* Samsung is producing official firmware nearly every month and although it was originally coming with wm 6.1 but it is officially upgradable to 6.5
* with the new firmware coming last July the free ram is nice. With good cooking it will go more.
* The performance is rely fast and rarly you need to do soft reset.
In summary, When excellent cooking coms to this device it will be more wonderful.
Thanks

Could anyone recomment a ROM with my "needs"?

Hello everyone and greetings from Denmark
Ok, I´ve asked in the german pocketpc.ch forum, and noone could help me, so I´ll try here (maybe someone can help me out here)
My "needs" for Android NAND rom:
- no Sense!
- fast
- stable
- the new Camera (not the one with focus on the outside)(the one with all those fiddly settings ^.^)
- should last at least 8 houres at heavy use (48 houres in standby/minimal usesage
I´ve tried a lot of roms through the last days, but none of them fitted my needs.
The one which come closest was: MarkinuX HD Extra Clean V1.71
But that one startet lagging after af few days =(
And I dont want to update my rom every few days, I need a rom which can run without performance issues, lagging and "need for update" for at least half a year
I´m desperate, and I hope some of you can help me =)
Thx and good night
BeeJay
Ultimate droid? From my past experiences, it was one of the best if not, best non sense rom for me.
I have no idea what camera you are referring to, but it probably has the stock android camera.
If you are referring to a camera which takes pictures that fill up the screen, has features such as vignette, depth of field, posterize, vintage, etc, you may be referring to a sense camera app. The sense camera app cannot be ported to a non sense build.
Just to note, no android build for us can last 8 hours on heavy use, none.
I don't think you can get a rom with virtually no issues around here, but all of them are good enough for daily use.
MarkinuX HD Extra Clean V1.71 had an uptime of 75 houres at minimum use (about 2 houres of "not standby", all the time 3G, pushmail 30 minutes, some facebook checks a day, about 20 minutes of gaming)
That was really impressive!
Yes, I think I mean the Sense Cam =/ Too bad, but nothing essential
I dont want the "old" Andoid cam, where the focus is set on the outer side of the (my Droid hat that one, sucked like hell)
After an update it had focus in the mid
Would you mind to post a link to the rom u recommended?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=958953
There's a link to it. however don't be jumping onto it just yet. I haven't used non sense builds in a while so there might be a better non sense build. Just wait for people to reply if you can.
You could try a Cyanogen Mod ROM and maybe use a camera app like 'Camera360' to take pictures? Doubt you'll get that long out of the battery though.

There are 3 or 4 others. Just clean cache dalvik too and update any miui on another.
The standout features are,
1 Pulldown bar has a data toggle that actually works.
2 The best network usage monitor I have ever seen.
3 Its small, only 70 to 80 Meg update.
4 You can customize anything including fonts and all icons.
5 Its own built in music player downloads song lyrics which are played on screen as you listen.
6 Has its own legal market with apps we never see.
7 Has its own Dev site.
8 You can have as many screens as you want(12 for me) and no performance issues.
9 Text appear in a jump out box for quick reply.
There are many more standout features making miui the is of choice.
Good luck again.

Exept for the unusable Android 2.0 camera with the focus on the outer side of the picture, wich makes it unusable for me!

[Noob] Rom Advise neede

Hi all
As in title i need some advice to change rom on my le pro 3.
The point is that I've always had nexus devices (4 and 5) and the latter stopped working. I've loved that plain and simple android so much that i never even bothered to change roms on those devices. So now i bought this Leeco Le pro 3 since I am not willing or better can't afford to spend so much money on those new pixel phones.
And here is the problem: I would like to install a rom as similar as to that "nexus" experience possible. Just plain android with no extra stuff I don't (think) I need. I'd then just download the apps I was previously using from play store.
Do you think there is something out there that could do the job?
Thank you very much
Well we have the Lineage team working on roms, we had a great rom the GTX ones but trolls got the OP pissed, in my opinion the battery on this phones is much better with the stock roms rooted and debloted, i get something like one day and some hours of battery life, I only use twitter, FB and hot spot when i need too, is also connected to BT streaming music when on the road. I tried using the Liniage and slim, and some how battery suffers im not sure why, but eventually those devs will figure it out, I came from the 6P and nugat screw up that phone badly, the UI on this phone gets a little to get used too nut IMO is worth the change.
Give stock rom a try. I also like very clean roms but this stock is really good, just install nova laucher and customize it like the new pixel launcher, it gives you a pretty good clean android experience, with some little tweaks.

Hi Cubanghost and thank you for your answer.
For now I did a backup of whats in the phone as it arrived. I might have found something here and it looks like the closest stock android experience that is available to me. The "grossoshop" version I have is just too confusing to me so I think I will just try the one i linked above and if it is not satisfying I will revert to the original and try to get used to it.

Not a problem i was lost on the IU for about a month since i was so used to my 6P but now i cant tell you the relief i have to move away, also the idea the Engineer had was also a good one i have nova swiping up like the pixel launcher. but i also heard good things about the chinesse rom's and battery been awesome. go for it and welcome to the LeEco family, this phone does not disappoints IMO.

IS it worth Rooting ?

I just bought a Sprint V20 and so far I have been looking through the roms and non are without bugs or problems. Which rom would you guys use and is it really that much better to root the phone over stock ?
Mine was lagging horribly and the battery was draining really fast.
I rooted and it has been so much better.
DevDigital's Sprint roms have been flawless for me. Not a single hiccup.
Just don't factory reset within twrp or you'll end up in a bootloop. Not bricked but aggravating.
I've had mine since Black Friday and still haven't rooted. I'm enjoying the phone despite the lack of data tethering. Is there a way to set the wide angle camera as the default camera so that 3rd party apps use the wide angle rear camera instead of the current primary? I'd enjoy the phone that much more if that were possible.
For me it's worth it just for adaway.

There is no way. At least for Tmobile's variant. However, it only take a second to either zoom out or just click the icon and it will both take you to widescreen. I find zooming out easier for me. I dont know why
I personally only root to control programs that we should be able to control anyway (aka facebook), I get annoyed at how programs continually relaunch themselves without my knowledge.
That being said at this time I haven't rooted mainly because I've only had the phone for a month and I want to make sure that the phone works properly for at least 6 months.
Right now I am running greenify to attempt to control apps that think my personal phone is their playground to do whatever they want.
If I was younger and not dependent on my phone for a lot of things (business and organization) I would try other builds people have made but since I need reliability above all I personally tend to stick to stock builds.

I may try this soon. I just hope DevDigitals Sprint roms are stable. I use Black Player as my music player for the gym and the camera is awesome for my Cruise I'm taking in April.
It still looks like people are having issues with DevDigitals rom. The data and texting issues. Are all these issues solved in V6.5 ? I use my phone for work and cant take the chance of it not answering a call or a text. Is the new V6.5 working as a daily driver for Sprint users ?
no issues at all on 6.5 for most.....
people sometimes don't read/search anymore
I did post once that I was having data issues but it was no fault of DevDigitl's great rom.
It was my wifi wasn't shutting off and I had previously signed into xfinity wifi. Every time I got anywhere near an xfinity wireless connection, (which is every other house in Boston) it would try to connect.
I'm still learning LG. Been on Samsung for a long time.
I firmly believe the rare connection issues are user error. Once the rom is installed you just need to click update profile and then update prl once.
It's worth rooting
Settings/Developer Options/Tick on "Force GPU Rendering" this should make this beast smoother/snappier" If root available try L Speed/Entropy/fstrim apps found on Play Store! LG V20 & LG G5 are snappy beasts, well optimised with Snapdragon 820 and is better than Samsung.
my LG-V20 was also laggy and draining battery quickly. i finally rooted my phone and it is 100% better i am currently using Maximum OvrDriVE Rom. its extremely nice. so if anyone else has the lag/battery drain quicker i suggest rooting your phone should fix. its been about 2 weeks and still doing great also so.
If you want a stable amazing ROM the NotSoStock ROM is the only option....
Don't hesitate just do it. You won't regret it.

sony z2 in 2018.

any one will and still use his sony z2 in 2018 , and why ?
YES because it works perfectly fine and has the developer community support
of course, I actually just upgraded to it from Xperia SP, it has a great CPU, a decent GPU and it still has amazing support here on XDA, we are getting a stable Oreo soon, and I bet we will get android P as well. It even has a very stable MM stock ROM (6.0.1 is the most used android version as of today) the only downside for me is the front facing camera, which was a good choice back in 2014, but now it's definitely not a good selfie camera, I will keep using it I guess for at least a year (or two) before getting enough budget to buy a year flagship...
Yes
Of course because it works like charm even in 2018 and it has brilliant developers that keeps this phone alive with their support

any way to root it without downgrade or use flash things ? like with a soft in my pc like i did with my dead LG G2 ?
tried KingRoot_pc_en but it says conect to internet I HAVE INTERNET !!
I have had mine since it came out. People are still amazed by it. Sure it has drawbacks but for what it was when it released it has aged extremely well. It's the best phone I have ever had for sure.
Me I have one I rooted it and unlocked bootloader and have existenz rom on marshmallow 6.0.1 and I have a 32gb external SD as internal storage so I have 48gb of free space for apps but 11for OS so its 37gb. And my camera is very good and my phone just blazing fast. Why do I need a new phone? This will be my beast for few next years. I may change it when I feel the need of it or just a big change in phone market happen.

Easy but not very good. (*DO IT AT YOUR OWN RISK*)First you need a rooted device second you need app2sd I found it on Google play. The one with a blue droid and an external SD image behind the blue droid. Anyways. I just made an adoptable partition of 25gbs because I can't make more than 95% of the SD card as internal. After that you need to reboot and next you need to repair it the same way you created it but this time select repair. NOTE: creating the partition will erase everything on your SD Card even if it was 1 gb partition. Anyways after repairing you can go to storage in your phone settings and tap on the internal storage partition of the SD card theb tap the options menu and migrate data and confirm it. And now you have more storage than normal but not 100% of what you have for example I have 25gbs from the SD and 16 from normal storage. But I don't really have 41gbs of usable space. But I'm sure that I'm using more than 20gb for my apps only. Anyways some apps may get fps drops or stutter you can move them manually to internal storage (not the partition) to get rid of any stutter in that app. It's not necessarily heavy apps that gets that stutter. For example I had a light game that has stutter and gta sa hasn't any of it.
Thanks, (*DO IT AT YOUR OWN RISK*)
If you want to know where did I get that knowledge it started from rooting the device which was from Android doctor youtube channel and I asked him about that and he suggested me to try app2sd it may help and after i've tried it I could make it real that my external SD card works as internal without downgrading to Android 4.0 kikat just wanted to say thanks to him because he helped me in an important thing of mine. I can still type but you'll get bored, good bye my friend.

I used this guide to root stock .291 https://forum.xda-developers.com/z3/general/recovery-root-mm-575-291-lb-t3435214
You will need to install flashtool on your PC but it's easy enough - the only issue in regards to that is you may have to "disable driver signature enforcement" to install the drivers depending on which version of Windows you're using. If you need any help just ask.
Right now I'm running latest eXistenZ ROM (had to do a fresh install from Stock as was having issues) with EliteKernel v3, kernel UV -50mV to reduce some heat and give better battery life.. Also some tweaks to make it more like my XZ which had stock Nougat - latest Xperia Home app + Serajr Xposed + DPI changed to 400. Finished off with Cyberian camera mod and Viper4Android and my Z2 is probably better than the XZ!
but mine its 6503 those are 66** ...

i thought it was a mod done by developers , any way i stay away from those apps , they may slow the device.

They do slow the device and those apps also contain annoying ads when you're in the app but if you have low storage you can use them to benefit of external sd cards with lots of storage. i think my problem is only with migrating data which makes everything primarily installed on the external sd which slows the phone because its acting like its holding the OS. Or its mainly slow down caused by the app.
