I all,
I'm wondering if it's feasible to somehow trigger screen lock to be disabled when a music app is active?
I know you can do this with smart pairing of Bluetooth devices but I was hoping to be able to do the same for when I'm playing music through my car's auxiliary jack / over the phone's speakers.
I've done a fair bit of googling but haven't found a solution.
I use llama app on my phone to trigger events and have tried setting a trigger using the music app to trigger the screen lock to disable but it doesn't work.
Any help appreciated!
Only thing I can think of is to turn the lock screen off in Settings....
Power amp has its own lock screen..... And I think giggle plus fits does

I haven't tried tasker - I as it's a paid app, I was hoping for confirmation that it's possible before paying for something I may not use.
I'm hoping for a non app specific solution as I use spotify and google play music, so changing music apps would only partially fix the problem.

I'm keen to not have to manually turn it on/off each time if possible.

Afraid its a manual off/on. I don't use a lock screen, unless I'm traveling.

Hi all,
I'm wondering if there's any alternative ways to put the Nexus 7 (or any Android device I guess) to sleep/wake it up. I'm thinking something along the lines of an app that forces the touch screen to stay active but turns the display off so you can use touch input to activate wake/sleep.
Might be a bit of a stupid question. The reason I ask is because my N7 is mounted in my car and the power button isn't easily accessible.
Cheers for any tips..

Not sure if this helps but I have a case that I bought for my N7 and when I open it and close it the screen turns on and off.
Here it is http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...ASIN=B008D2POAS&linkCode=as2&tag=newyormus-20

Thanks for that but nah, it's mounted in my car dash so a case won't fit..
But that give me an idea.. does sliding a magnet across a specific point on the screen turn it on/off? That's the idea with the smart cases right?

Yes,
The magnet is somewhere to the bottom left of the device (i would say to about a quarter from bottom up and on the black contour) . If you can add an sliding magnet (make sure is weak) then you can lock/unlock screen.
Nfc tags dude i wonder if they would work

I know some kernels can enable touch wake. I imagine it can incorporated soon. On my Galaxy Nexus, there's an app I downloaded that allowed a specific screen swipe to wake the screen.

Hey man. I used to have an awesome app on my very first Android tab years ago. It would turn the screen completely black (via home screen or notification icon) without actually putting it to sleep. Because it wasn't really asleep, a double tab would turn the screen back on. I CANNOT FIND IT FOR THE LIFE OF ME! Anyway, after reading your question, I searched for an hour, because I could use something like this for my setup in my car.
So, I found something that turns the screen both on and off, and actually works on my N7. Search for Proximity Screen Off. I installed the free lite version, and it works. I found out the screen won't turn on though, unless you disable your lock screen. Play with the settings to your liking.
Oh, and since we don't have prox sensors, you can use your ambient light sensor. Good luck, lmk if it works for ya.

It's called PGM Nexus. I almost don't want to give up my Galaxy Nexus (but I sadly still plan to) just because of this one app alone...it is so godawful nice to be able to swipe, or simply double tap the screen to fire up the screen. Unfortunately this app apparently requires some deep voodoo to work as its kernel related, and applies strictly to the Galaxy Nexus. I know a bunch of people have already started bugging the developer to make a version for the Nexus 7, I'd suggest piling on. :fingers-crossed:
It's apps like these that make you realize how superior the Nexus devices are at getting really good customized software over other devices.
I do wish there were some other options for the Nexus 7, like using the front camera as a proximity sensor of sorts to detect a handwave, or simply shaking the tablet.

Hello. I'm not sure if it helps you, but for turning off screen I use Nova Launcer (alternatively you could use Apex Launcher - as far as I remember, it has gestures in its free version) with Screen Off app by Katecca. I've set Nova Launcher to react to swiping up screen by executing Screen Off app. So I have to turn on screen by pressing button, but to turn off I just swipe up screen.
Best regards,
Artur

Hi folks,
My wife and I both have N4s. Mine doesn't do this but whenever my wife unlocks or locks her phone the camera clicks. We both had NSs before our N4s and her NS did the same; mine did not.
I can only put this down to a carried over setting or an app that is causing this but I can't find which one. Before I wipe her N4 back to factory settings can anyone tell me how to trace the culprit?
I have been through all her apps to find those that combine permissions for " Run at startup" with "Can take photos and videos" and have uninstalled those that do but after rebooting the camera is still clicking.
Any help would be gratefully received.
Thanks in advance.

Its not the camera clicking. I'm guessing she has her sound on and what she is hearing is the unlock and lock screen sound. You can turn this setting off and on under Settings>Sounds>Screen lock sound
Hope that helps! Don't wipe her phone cause it will not fix the problem

Anyone with the S7 confirm that Google now always listening works when UNPLUGGED AND SCREEN OFF? thanks
Nope. Only on the lock screen with the display is on.
S-voice however does work from the lock screen while display is off.
I remember with the Note 4, Google Now needed S-voice to work from the lock screen with display off. I have been trying to those same settings on the S7 edge.
There are settings in Google Now to allow listening from any screen. But I believe it will only work if the screen is on OR the phone is plugged in.

I find it extremely annoying when playing a game, every time I touch the screen the capacitive lights come on. Is there a way to disable this while playing games? I downloaded an app called Galaxy Button Lights that allows to shut them completely off (I just want them off during gaming). It has gotten to the point that I am seriously considering returning this phone. (Still have my G2). What are other peeps doing?
Thanks!

Game tools just disables the buttons doing their intended action. They still light up and even give tactile feedback when pressed after they are disabled via game tools.
sorry....nevermind

Been using since s6 and works perfectly. Mine are always off because I know where they are and like mentioned above, disabling while playing is the other side to stop funtionality. Hope that helps!

Is there a way to disable the home button from being on all the time? I can't for the life of me understand why this is a "feature". I am always turning on the display when I pull the phone out of my pocket, or it turns on in my pocket. I really dislike this and would like to turn it off. I've already set the sensitivity to lowest.

Go to settings -> lock screen and security - always on display - content to show - choose "clock or information"
Then go to
settings -> display -> navigation bar - turn off "Unlock with Home button"
in this menu, also decrease the sensitivity for hard press so you don't accidentally activate it
Even with the icon turned off, That area is still a way to unlock the phone but requires a hard press after doing the above
there is a setting under display to keep screen turned off inside pocket, that should solve your problem.
Thanks for the info guys. I have already done all of that. I was hoping for a way to just turn it off.

Seriously this is so annoying. I've already changed those settings as well and it changes nothing.
settings -> display -> navigation bar - turn off "Unlock with Home button" seems like it would be a the obvious way to disable it but it does nothing.
There are 3 options in always on display. Make sure you change off the default which is "clock or information and home". I didn't have to change the sensitivity and can unlock by pressing the screen without the button being visible. This actually got me to look at always on again and schedule a screen the works for me.

This must be fixed in a future update! I have also changed all of the above settings and my phone turns on in my pocket dozens of times a day and my battery life has been awful because of it. I like the pressure button, it really cool to use it to go home from any full screen app, but why can it be used to turn on the screen when it's off? There is a power button on the side to turn it on!
for me, turn on that unlock feature doesn't help anything
is a software problem I suppose
I have same problem,
it unlocked it self in my bag several times. First time I didnt have pattern lock, so it went to whatsapp and sent some picture to a friend of mine.
Next time I had pattern lock, but it went to upper menue and presses wifi and gps off.
So this problem is really bad, I am just thinking to sell my S8+ and to buy a conventional smartphone with a normal button.

I've had similar issues. It has turned in in my pocket and taken a bunch of blank photos. There really needs to be an option to disable the button completely, the hardware buttons works just fine.
I've found that enabling the option "keep screen turned off" to keep the screen off in dark locations like pocket/purse in display settings along with the lowest home button sensitivity helps though.

It is true, also in point of fact the keep screen off in pocket never worked for me going back several Samsung phones. A lil sweat is all it needs, btw trying watching a movie in the shower, some stray hot water drops will register as touches as well even though no one is touching the screen. Keep stuff like this in mind before you outright call people liars.
