Noticed this today while a friend was messing with my phone while it was standing on the table locked.
He pressed the lock button, the screen showed up with the clock, wallpaper and stuff.
My phone has a pattern lock, so he was unable to access the main launcher screen. But he was able to pull the notification/status top bar and do stuff like change brightness, disable wifi and bluetooth and so on.
To me it does look like a security flaw. Is there any way I can block that?
Thanks everyone!
I see that. But when i try to open anything, my pin code is required. Do you have a screen lock pin set up?
Edit. Ok i see what u mean. Quick settings can be changed, but not the settings gear icon. That requires a pin. Huh!
This is bonkers! Some of these may even potentially involve more serious security concerns, but in any case there ought to be a way to turn off this access. I do not want to allow anyone to change my Wifi network, Bluetooth device, open a hotspot, use the flashlight or even change the volume while it is locked - especially since I can instantly unlock it myself with a fingerprint.
This is really crazy indeed. I hope Google fix this on the next Android release or even let the users decide if they want this or not. I really don't want to root my device because of this but I don't see another option right now.
i don't like that a potential thief can turn off DATA even though the phone is locked.
I think this was meant to make toggling wifi, Bluetooth, airplane mode, flashlight, do not disturb easily accessible.

ARGH! Any way to disable the Start Menu's "Lock" button or make it not appear?
I had an interesting problem that basically results in all data loss if it happens. On a particular Blue Angel I was working on, the touch screen somehow lost its calibration. In attempting to get to the calibration menu, the wonky screen somehow hit "Lock" on the bottom left corner of the Start Menu, and the device locked. Since the touchscreen became uncalibrated there was NO WAY for me to touch the tiny area and slide it properly. Thus I could not unlock the device even though LOCK is something that I NEVER EVER USE. I had to hard reset and lost all data. In WM2003, this would never have been a problem! I imagine if someone does use device lock, a screen decalibration incident would result in all data loss too which is unacceptable!
I tried the classic style lock screen which requires less precision but it still involves the need to touch a specific screen area in order to unlock it.
Is there any way to get rid of the Lock option in the Start Menu competely? A registry key perhaps? I want NOTHING to do with the device lock feature, it just seems to cause more problems and data loss than anything else. Any suggestions?
I believe that I have seen a post or two regarding the soft keys for the Start Menu. I'll see if I can find them.
On a side note, please refrain from opening new threads with questions. There is a Q&A thread at the top of this section for this kind of inquiries. I will transfer your question over there. Thanks.
anybody figure this out? i really would like to know
Lock sucks. If you have the phone locked, and get an incoming call - it doesn't unlock automatically, and there is no way to unlock it on the 'answer phone' screen.
So - you cannot get an incoming call if you use lock.
i dont even use it. i use pocketshield but i dont want the lock button to turn on PS, i want it either gone or to have it set up as a "back" button.
Has anybody managed to get rid of that damn button ? I have been looking around the forum for ages and still can't find a way to get rid of it.
Hello everyone,
I hate it when my phone decides to call people all by itself. I've since found that my pattern unlock no longer works. It first happened with the CyanogenMod 4.2.9.1 and still happens now with 4.2.10.1.
I can disable the lock, edit a new pattern and re-enable it and it still chooses not to lock. Pressing the home key just brings me back to the home screen when the phone is asleep. It seems to remember the pattern as if I try and change it I need to get the old pattern right until it lets me make a change.
If anyone can help it will be much appreciated.
This video is highlighting a new feature of Android L - trusted devices. Basically, your phone doesn't lock itself as long as it's connected to trusted devices via bluetooth.
I'm more interested in the other smart lock feature shown in the video, though not really explained. It's called trusted faces. Anyone with a Nexus 4/5/7 try this yet? Can anyone confirm if it works differently (hopefully better) than face unlock in previous versions of Android?
Ya it works fine .I am loving it
I wonder if I can do this with my device and my Glass...

You can do this with tasker. I have it so my phone does not lock when connected to my home WiFi, etc.
Also if you have xposed installed then no lock home works as well.

That's good to know, I use Tasker normally to switch from Mobile Data to WiFi when arriving home and vice versa.
Trusted face works good, but I wish it would allow multiple faces.
The face unlock seems to work a bit better than in previous android versions... you don't know it's looking for your face, you just swipe to unlock and if it recognises you then it just unlocks, if not, you put your pin in.
I'm having trouble with tasked though, my old method of removing the pinning when connected to my wifi doesn't seem to work... neither does turning off the mobile data... I think it's just that tasked may need an update
I just tried this on my other N5 after seeing your post. The only time I can't get it to work consistently is in very dim/dark lighting similar to the way its always worked. The differences in the way it works on L vs earlier iterations is that it is extremely fast almost instant and it never shows the camera. It's constantly looking but in the background. There is small icon bottom center that changes from a person avatar (to tell you it is looking) to an unlocked padlock symbol to confirm it recognized you upon turning on the phone. Hope that helps. The trusted devices works wonderfully.
So does this "smart lock" only work with bluetooth and NFC? I hoped (and thought it was implied when the feature was first shown off) that you could also set it up to bypass the PIN unlocking when connected to a trusted wi-fi network, but it looks like it only works for bluetooth and NFC. Which kinda sucks for me, because I really don't use any kind of bluetooth things, nor do I have anything that would work with the NFC aspect of that, either.

How would you have xposed running on L?
Is there a way, to use WIFI as an smart lock device? I mean maybe it is possible to use Tasker to simulate an connectet bluetooth-device if i am connectet to my wifi?

I have Tasker setup with Secure Settings to toggle PIN lock when I'm on home wifi, and it doesn't seem to work correctly on L for my N7 2013. The setting is set to NONE in the security settings, but I still have to enter my PIN. If I manually go in and "edit" the setting and select NONE again, then it doesn't ask for my PIN. Once I leave home and Tasker applies my PIN again, if I return home, I have to go manually select NONE again or just enter my PIN.
Not sure if that's a bug with Secure Settings or a bug in L. The setting is changed, but it doesn't seem to register. I guess I could understand if it did something like, require the PIN for unlock the first time after connecting, but that doesn't seem to be the case. I used Trusted Devices on m Moto X 2013 with the bluetooth in my car, but trusted devices are cleared when you disable PIN lock. I use the same profile to turn off the password on my phone when I'm at home, so it clears my trusted devices every time I go home. I use my phone pretty often, so the lock doesn't usually set during the day. My tablet sits on my desk at work all day and I have to unlock if I use it (30 minute lock delay), but at home I am on my tablet most of the night while my phone sits unused (but it doesn't lock, because I'm at home..).
Either way, something isn't working with L and Secure Settings on my Nexus 7.
You'll now be able to add trusted places to smart lock.

Amazing
i'd like to use it to unlock the phone with bluetooth paired headset or NFC, unfortunately i've 4.3... do you know if ther is a mod for 4.3?
Just be aware that if you have ANY app that turns off your screen (for example, Gravity Screen, which can detect you putting the phone in your pocket or face down, and automatically shuts off the screen), the Google API also forces that app to lock the screen as it shuts it off. The lock that the app will do cannot be circumvented by Smart Lock, and you'll have to enter your passcode every time.
I just got the location-based update for smart unlock and it's great!
Sent from my Nexus 6 using XDA Free mobile app
the only thing that sucks about smart lock with Bluetooth, you can't control the distance. My pebble watch goes 30 meters before Bluetooth drops. That means at work i can go to the bathroom and someone still can bypass my lock screen

I use Trusted Devices for my Nexus 6, but I don't use the other business. The face unlock can still easily be beaten. You can even just hold up another smartphone and get it done. The trusted devices is *really* nice. The only two things I use it for are my car and the sound system in my bathroom. Those are the only 2 devices that, when I use them, I know my phone is right there. I don't have it set up for my Android Wear watch, since I don't want someone to be able to pick up my phone from my desk at work when I'm 20ft away and play with it, and I don't use my home wifi because it extends all over my yard...so if anyone just picks up my phone anywhere within 100ft of my house they can use it.

Before you go to the bathroom, just touch the lock icon on the lock screen for a second or so, and it will require a passcode for the next unlock.

Good to know and repped. thanks! I have a Moto Keylink coming next week
I just bought the Droid Turbo and I encrypted my phone with a PIN. Now when my phone is in between the screen off and the 5 minute lock time for the pin access, if you press the power button it automatically goes to the home screen. On my 5 other Android phones in between the screen off and the PIN lock out time if you press the power button you still have to slide to unlock. Is there any way to get this back? Or a 3rd party app that will let me do this without disabling the security PIN? I have tried several KitKat and Lollipop lock screen apps but they all remove the pin lock security. I do have the Tasker app but i am unsure how to set this option up. Thanks for any help. If I need to explain the issue better let me know.

I don't think it is available that way with Moto Display. On my Moto X 2013 it doesn't do that either. Because there is a slide unlock on the Moto/Active Display when there are notifications or when the device moves, you slide there to either get the notification or go to the home screen.

I like that feature however, if I press the power button it goes straight to the home screen without sliding to unlock. I dont like that. I want to have to slide to unlock even if I press the power button.

You would probably need a 3rd party lock screen to do that, but I think you'd then always swipe to PIN, after that 5 minutes passed. You can only select one lock screen type on Moto X, so it is either slide OR PIN/Password, but you can't have both. I know what you're referring to, I had it on my Droid X and Droid Razr Maxx, but the only way to turn those on was with the power button. Because the newer Moto phones have Active/Moto Display, I think it works as the slide unlock.
I can say that over time you will use the power button less and less, because you will get used to the Active Display. It's a hard habit to shake, but you'll actually find yourself turning your phone on less to check notifications. On my Moto X I pick it up and see there is a notification (or see it "breathing" an unread notification) and if I press and hold on the circled notification I can see the details. So I can see what the text is, who the email is from, what the tweet is, etc and if I don't care to unlock and view I can swipe left/right to clear it without every actually turning the screen on or unlocking the phone.
If you control the apps that are able to show on Active Display and only places ones you really care about, you'll turn your phone on even less and only for the things you feel are important.
Tasker to add slide to unlock with PIN
I have this reference to use Tasker to do what I want but, I dont understand it. here is the link to the post.

I use Tasker and Secure Settings to set/remove my PIN based on my home WIFI connection (it turns PIN off when I'm at home).
Setup your profile with Tasker first, then create an action and select Plugins (or 3rd party, I forget), and select Secure Settings. You'll have a big list of options, Keyguard is under Actions and Password/PIN is under Dev Admin actions. You'll need to enable Secure Settings as a device administrator in your phone settings.
You will probably need to have a profile that sets keyguard when the screen shuts off and waits 5 minutes, then disables keyguard and turns on PIN/Password lock. Then another profile that resets the status to recycle it once you unlock the phone.
Can you post the step by step instructions. I have never used Tasker before and I am completely lost.

There's an option to Lock Immediately on Power or something. In security settings. Or just reduce your time out.
Really liking the fingerprint scanner and it's position on the Mi A1 - much better than the one under the power button on my former Sony phone
That said, i'm wondering if there is a way to make it lock the phone as well as unlock - I like being able to use it as the swipe for notifications, but would be great to Unlock -> swipe (see notifications) -> hold for locking...
Thoughts!?
Did u even Google and try before asking? This was my first hit. https://android.gadgethacks.com/how...anner-do-almost-anything-with-tasker-0175015/
Thanks. So what happens when my banking app wants my fingerprint and I have that set up?
Should work, just don't press it to long. You should be able to set a custom delay before screen off.
So I can't make this work. Tasker seems to have two options System Lock or Lock. Lock is some kind of manual lock screen, so seems System Lock would be what I want.
However, System Lock seems to be a core level lock that then doesnt allow me to unlock with fingerprint, but needs the pattern...
Is there some other option I'm looking for here?
Screen off? Device should autolock itself seconds later.
Doesnt seem to be a screen off option, only change the display timout (min 7 seconds, so that wont work)
