I guess the answer that you will get from everyone in this Z2 forum is getting Z2. If you ask the same question in HTC forum then they will suggest you getting M8. At the end of the day it's still your decision. Best way to find out is to go the the local shop of put your hand on the devices and feel it for yourself. Good luck with your purchase.
If You want camera for more than just Instagram (which already ruins photos by itself), Z2 all the way. M8 camera isn't bad, but it is really sub par most of the time compared to their competitors.
But, remember, the good hardware/software is only part of a good photo. The photographer makes the most of it. ?

If you want good camera and outstanding battery life, then the choice is only one among those two - Z2.
You will not be able to check the batch until you open the phone and no one will allow you to do that before you buy and even so, I don't think anyone will exchange just because you want a different batch.
Whatever batch you got, if it works OK just keep it and don't care about this batch talk.
Mine has a bit off centered camera in the shell, front and back one, but it does not affect photos so I do not care.

If you care about the camera then Xperia Z2 is what you should be after as it has a far superior camera and battery life is the best when compared to current flagships.

The Z2 isn't perfect - but if you're looking for a good camera and a long battery life this phone is AMAZING.
Speakers on the M8 are fantastic! A friend of mine has one and I'm loving the speakers on it. though I prefer the design and durability of the Z2. I've dropped my phone a few times and haven't had any problems with the waterproofing or something like that due to the drops.
Well I'd choose the z2 all day. But its your choice.
You mentioned the battery life if that's the case the z2 has an unbelievable battery life I managed to squeeze out 12 hours of On Screen Time the other day which is incredible.
The other point you mentioned the camera. Well according to many htc m8 reviews ive seen the camera is the m8s biggest dissapoitment.
The z2 camera is very impressive though probably not the best cameraphone out there but still impressive.
I think the z2 would suit you and nope i have never had any issues with my z2 i think a lot of them are exaggerated.
I have both and you wont be dissapointed in either. Camera and battery is way better on z2, not to mention waterproof. M8 is nicer to hold and easier to operate with 1 hand, also sound output is wonderfull. Both devices are great, but for me z2 is just better overall package.
I had the m8 and currently have the Z2. They're both great devices but, for what you want, the Z2 is quite a bit better.

Huawei Ascend Mate 2 <---- perfectly match your requirements.
I am using Z2 and thinking of buying HAM2 as a backup/tablet-phone.
Cheers,
Doesn't the M8 have problems with SD card read/write access, even when rooted? To me, full SD card access is a must (Damn you Kit Kat, you c*ck blocker!)

Best battery life: Z2 > M8 > GS5
Performance: M8 > Z2 > GS5
Camera: Z2 = GS5 (GS5 is better in daylight and Z2 better in indoors and low light) > M8
I first got a GS5 and I quite loved it for its camera, features and erognomics but it was horrible at maintaining a stable LTE signal at my office and that would drain the battery pronto. Other annoyances about it was the comparatively laggy and slow UI, especially coming from a nexus 5, and it's low-light blurry camera shots (these issues may or may not have been fixed via firmware upgrade). Had it for around 10 days.
I then got an M8 and really loved it for it's build quality, speakers and fast UI - faster than the nexus 5 even. It held the LTE signal well and had good battery life, lasting me a full day. Unfortunately it's camera was beyond awful and beyond my patience and was thus unacceptable for me. Also, like the M7 before it, the M8's UI was too sterile and boring for my tastes. Had it for around two weeks and got bored.
For me, the Z2 has been the best overall package of the three with that huge battery, potentially great camera and good performance. I've had it for 2 months now it has the best of both the GS5 and M8, along with the best battery of the bunch. The camera is capable of producing phenomenal results in any lighting conditions, the battery can easily last me two days and beyond, the UI is quick and pleasant to use, the screen is bigger and nicer than the other two (IMO) and I love the build quality and water-resistant features. The speakers also fall in between the M8 and GS5, and are good.
It's not as easy in the hand as the other two though, but if you can get to hold it for yourself and find it acceptable, this really is the best all-round phone in the market IMO.

I think this depends on the shop your go to and/or country you're in. Everytime I've been to buy a new phone I've always been able to inspect and have a close look at what I'm buying, the trick is don't be afraid to ask and if they refuse then you tell them you wont be buying. With distance selling, you should have at least 7 days no refusal exchange/refund so long as the device hasn't been used with a sim card but again depends which country or shop you buy in/from.
I own both the devices, I prefer Z2 as my daily driver due to the camera.
Z2 wins in camera and battery life department.
M8 is smoother. But I like being able to go from sleep to snap within seconds.
I prefer Z2 solely for its looks(I have the white version) and the available customizations.
Thank you guys for helping me. Guess what? I got the z2 last night and I am really happy with it way better than my s5 glad I sold it. Now some case and screen protector shopping to do ?

Congratz! Welcome to the greatest flagship club.
I thought about going back to my M8, turned it on and while that screen is supposed to be one of the better ones out it does not look as good as the Z2 does. I love how the Z2 screen looks. I think the sound quality issues might not be as bad as I thought so Im keeping it. Pictures Ive taken with the Z2 blow the doors off the M8. Only thing I dont care for the glossy back panel on the Z2, if I wanted a glossy iPhone I would have bought one of those.
Let me start out by saying, I wanted the M9 to be the phone I wanted it to be, sooo bad. I have had a M7 Dev Edition since launch day, used it primarily on AT&T. I have now switch to T-Mobile and the M7 does not have all of the required bands to be fully compatible, so it was time to upgrade for me.
I bought the M9 early, directly from HTC and got the dev edition. It has full support for T-Mobiles bands and has the upgrades I have been needing ( Faster, microsd NO BLOAT ).
I still could not help read all the hype over the S6, so I bought one of those as well, just a regular S6, IDK why, but I was not a fan of the edge look.
I have both now for weeks as T-Mobile was selling them ahead of everyone else.
From testing both as daily drivers I have concluded the S6 is the best route for me, the software combined with Samsung's own processor is flawless, nearly 0 lag, even with the bloat I found myself liking the S6 more and more.
What it came down to in the end was a few things;
1. Signal - There would be places as I was driving I would have LTE on the S6, and the M9 would only get Edge. Not even H+. It seems to me like the antenna on the S6 is better, so many places the S6 would get signal where the M9 wouldn't. Places as I was driving, where the M9 had an "X" ( No Signal ), the S6 showed 2 bars of H+.
2. Camera - Yes the camera CAN produce good pictures, but you have to be standing still and have the the steadiest of hands, I went to a concert and zoomed all the way in with the M9 and I could see the screen shaking from my hand shaking, due to its lacks of OIS. Tried the same thing on the S6 and it was steady as could be, no shaking, perfect picture. I have a big enough hand I use both phones with one hand, if you are a person who uses both hands, maybe pictures won't be that bad for you.
3. Wireless charging - No more ports breaking, lol. With how cheap the technology is, I don't use the wall charger ever. I found a few QI chargers at Radio Shack when they were going out of business for 5 bucks a peice. Get to work, place it on the pad and don't worry about it.
Trust me, I kept trying to talk myself out of the S6 for my sheer love of HTC and the design and feel, but overall daily use the S6 outshines it. I hope next year they bring their game back, as I heard right after the M9 launched they re-organized a bunch of staff.
What I will miss, the front facing speakers, Samsung should know how much sound is when speakers are facing you, but none the less, tis one feature I will miss on the M9
This is just my opinion, and the decision was not easy, but day to day the S6 won me over.

I tend to agree with you. Even if you take away their respective cameras the S6 just brings so much more to the table. That combined with the fact that Samsung has managed to make the S6 so fast performance wise means that it could be a long year for HTC.
I have a S6 edge sitting right next to me. I used it for a week and it deserves high praise. Samsung really hit it out the park.
I had to have a M9 for some reason. I had the M7&8 and wanted the 9 even if it was a miniscule upgrade.
So far I'm trying to find reasons to like the HTC more because I will only keep one.
I'm liking the Sense UI, body and build, and that's about it so far. The battery feels worse and the camera sucks. I hope these can be fixed through updates.

Lol...that desperate huh.
TLDR
If it is a question...then...
Must be your first htc.
Things get better few months later with otas.
I still don't understand why sammy doesn't invest on design. Then the software itself twz is too boring.
But well, just my opinion.
I don't even bother of saying to people what to buy or what is the best, unless i got a nice payment for it
I forgot, sammy focus their marketing for Women and kids, i m none of them

Yes, I agree touch wiz is very ugly. Sense is the premium Launcher. All guy's want it. That's the reason to change to htc to.

Have both of them using as daily drivers, and using them about over a week. so I have somme opinions
From now on m9=htc one m9, and the s6e=s6 edge
M9 over S6E
1- Playing games on htc is much more fun than the s6e
2- Listening music is better
3- speaker quality is better (two front facing speakers, you can hear detailed sounds even in candy crush)
4- Battery life on m9 is better than s6
5- Easier to use with one hand
6- Blinkfeed
7- Sd card support
S6E Over M9
1- Screen quality is way better (amoled vs ips)
2- Camera quality (unmatched on the market )
3- Wireless Charging
4- Fingerprint Scanner
5- Build quality ( for me glass is better choice)
6- Fast charging
As you can see guys these list are primary for me and i am happy with my devices. Both devices are wonderful and easy to use. Both have their advantages and disadvantages.
The only disappointment is M9's camera. Although its 20.7 mp, it shoots crappy photos and i don't understand why htc still using toshiba sensor.
These are my opinions and i am not writing this to slander any of them. These devices rocks!!!
Thank you.
I too, like the OP, wanted m9 to be good. Bought it a few weeks ago even with no local warranty (m9 not released officially yet here in Indonesia).
Played around with it for 1 week, before I concede and bought the regular s6.
I hate touchwiz. Still do. But that's about all I have to endure. The rest are just sublime.
Edit:forgetting the lack of external sdcard option on s6.worked around it by turning on flickr auto upload (I don't have huge apps or games on my phone)
I chose m9 at first because it's full HD not QHD, thinking i'd rather have a good battery-life than a feature i can't really enjoy. Seriously I cant really see the difference between QHD and FHD screen at 5-5.2" screen. By staying with FHD screen I was expecting at the very least m8-level 6-7hr SOT battery life. However I was wrong. My M9 never surpass the 5hr mark SOT whatever I did (without crippling its smartphone features too badly). My s6 can get 6 hours SOT with wifi, and around 4.5-5 hours on mixed wifi and patchy LTE signal.
Loved the high resolution m9 camera in daylight, but sadly i rarely use my camera at daytime. Most of my usage are from 6pm onwards (which is why i loved my UP m8 so much). Again, s6 caters my night time photography need.
This is not a post bashing m9. I'm a fan of HTC really. Just whoring myself temporarily to the friendly Korean neighbor, hoping somehow the issues m9 have would be ironed out in the near future through great software updates. If so, i'll be gladly sell my s6 and keep an eye for a used m9.
The S6 is better in almost every way except the speaker of course, and this year build quality is a toss up.
If SG6 is so cool.. Why im having tonz of pm to port Sense 7 over it
I have a S5 and a Z3C. S6 was never an option for me, it takes too many features away, but I 'm not arguing it may be the best phone of the year. I also wanted something new and had never tried HTC. So I went with the M9 and I love it so far, it's like this phone has a soul. I knew that I would get an imperfect phone when I bought it (cheap, got an offer) so I 'm not disappointed.

Question is, why didn't people just buy the m9 if they like sense 7 so much
Sent from my SM-G920I using Tapatalk
Again my first original post was just an opinion, this was not my first HTC, I have had the M7 Dev Edition since launch day. Simple day to day uses, functions etc made me pick the S6.
Like I said in my original post, I tried to find any reason for me to keep the M9, I like sense over touchwiz but even with updates, you can't make a camera function like it has OIS when it doesn't, not to say it won't improve..
Lack of sd card is minimal for me, I have an unlimited data plan, upload photos/videos to the cloud and you don't have to worry about space.

They do, but they don't spam or get paid for promoting like Samsung using kids, students and girls. Maybe bad paid in a basement. In poors country it's a known activity, but to me slavery. People should be free.
I'm posting this as i think Sony doesn't know what they are doing anymore, they are not in control of their mobile dev department, its a real mess.
After years of experiencing android market, Sony reinventing the wheel every time they come up with something new, the latest example is the Z5 series
they released a device with half a day battery life under fair usage, they are marketing it as a 2 days battery ready
they forgot to add the correct drivers for the bluetooth and wifi, that's why the bower consumption is really high when both left on without connecting to BT headset or Wi-Fi
the camera is far from the expectations, lagy, hardly focus, image optimization is at the worst, extremely noisy, file size is at the highest, please do a fair comparison between this camera and any other mid-range device, even Huawei doing much better than Sony camera, the weird thing is they are selling their camera module to most of the high-end manufacturers, but others knows how to perfectly use this module.
even their own apps like "Smart Connect" it doesn't trigger the required action upon device pairing to a bluetooth for example
Stamina Clock disconnects the mobile data believe me it does
"Adaptive Brightness" is not correctly functioning, it extremely exposure the screen brightness for seconds before it detects the correct settings
sound drivers are sh*^%&t, stereo speakers are not well calibrated, and after every Facebook call or disconnecting noise cancelling headset, I have to readjust ringer and call volumes again
Sony fans stay away please, no need for (my device lasts for full 5 years with only 10% battery) as this is a lie, I factory rest and repaired my device 6 times with all possible settings before I post this, this post is not for you guys, I was a Sony fan, starting from Xperia Z, Z1, Z2, Z3, and finally this sh%^ty Z5P, and unfortunately am an advanced user and i know Sony mobiles behavior
Good luck everyone, stay away from Sony mobiles this year if you care about your money, you won't be satisfied unless you are a beginner, or you have the patience to wait for months for an update to fix a bug and bug another, till finally after ages they fix their firmware.
Be Happy Story Teller

You sound like a fairly smart and technical dude so I'll give u the benefit of the doubt and try to stay constructive.
There are a number of quirks with the Z5P that we all wished were not there, just like there are many quirks with every single phone in it's first months of release
There will be fixes for the MINOR bugs you are mentioning and there is no reason to blow it out of proportion like a teenager on her first period. I mean if Smart Connect, adaptive brightness(no issue here), Stamina clock and readjusting volume after FB call is you idea of "STAY AWAY FROM SONY" issues, I think you have some serious unresolved ones. Not trying to offend you, just a friendly observation.
As far as camera, battery and wireless drivers(?!), you either got a faulty device, or you are smoking some fine dope and I want in on it
Camera pics (low light especially) made a pal of mine switch to Z5 from an iPhone. I was at a party on Saturday and people were borrowing my phone to take pics and send to themselves afterwards. As objective as it comes. .
I haven't switched off BT or WiFi ever since I became a Sony user(Z, Z1, Z2). Z5P does noticeably worse than my Z2, which was a power stamina beast, but it still holds up to the two day promise Sony makes (~4 hours of screen time, stamina mode - On, wifi/BT - On, adaptive brightness set to medium). I easily start a morning with 100% and last to next day evening. I am not a power user and rarely play games on it, so if you do, I can see your frustration. The Snapdragon 810 is infamous with its power starve.
As for the "tons" of links with bad feedback, it is true for every single piece of hardware. Simple human behavior is that they rarely write on a forum about a positive experience.
My advice is, write down all the issues you are having, send back your phone for a warranty service (even invent a few if it helps your case) and see if they can swap it.
Otherwise you can keep whining and badmouthing, it's your choice, but it's also no way to live a life Put a nice smile on and make it better
Cheers

I'm on the fence on choosing a z5premium or a iPhone 6s plus. ..which one do you think I should get? How's the front camera on the z5premium I'm into social media and use snap chat alot so I want a good selfie camera. .as well as a good rear camera and how long do you guys think the next premium model drops ?
Which version of the premium do you have? Is it dual? Is it E6883? I wonder if bugs are only in certain versions of the phone. Especially the battery issue. I got the dual E6883 and I feel like the battery is not lasting how it should.

Both have a good front facing camera. The Sony one captures a little more (wider lens) but the quality is not different enough to drive a decision. Right now, before a Firmware update, you'll be happier with the 6s Plus.
After Sony releases a couple of updates, I think the Sony will be the better phone.
The rear camera is better on the Sony but that is subjective to my picture preferences. On the objective side, Sony's lenses are much wider and capture more of the scene and it has a camera button, which I wouldn't swap for anything. the 6s Plus does have OIS tho. Videos tend to be a little less shaky.
pick the one u like in your hand. I am not a fan of apple's product line but that's on a personal level so I can't recommend against it.
gd luck
P.S. If you'r not in a hurry, my advice is - wait till spring. The Z6 line will be a lot better. Rumors are there will be 5 screen sizes to pick from and lot of goodies. And in case they suck, you can grab the Z5P cheaper. The only reason I got mine was a random Black Friday promo for 50% off

Probably when the marshmallow update drops soon it will be alot better huh? Yeah the camera button would be nice !! i wanted a rear camera closest to a dslr so the z5p is probably that. I heard the z5p has a better stabilizer..Do you think a new model z5p will drop soon? i guess thats my main concern, i dont want the phone to depreciate after Christmas and i know iphones dont hardly do that haha. Hows your battery life ??

edit: Do they still have that black friday promo? lol and i should probably get a iphone 6s plus then since i can easily resell it for alot (seem to hold value). i found a 6s plus 128gb for $700 new
Nah, was just a 12 hour promo on a Swedish provider
If u want to hold value, iPhone would be a better option. U'll be happy with both.
Battery is fine. I miss my Z2's marathon stamina but I easily get two days and it will get better with andro M.
In the end, its a lifestyle choice, dude. They cover different needs and have a different customer base. If u want pretty, shiny and easy to use - go 6s Plus. If u want to tinker, customize and a more real experience in a tougher shell - its Sony. Go play with both of them in a store.

2 days seems amazing, on my s6 edge plus i sold i got around 10hrs only with probably 2-3sot. Guess i gotta think this through lol... do you have any camera samples? or any samples on instagram or something ?
Thats quite disappointing. People here don't like it when they get "only" 4-5 hrs SOT on the Z5P

loads of samples and a decent review

As objective as it comes. .

Thanks man for your reply, but when you pay around $850 to get a Z5P in my country -with no warranty BTW-, and after days of waiting for it to be delivered to find out you've paid this for a downgraded version of your current device (Z3) which lasts easily for a day with heavy use, most of issues were fixed (except for the call and ring volumes and Smart connect actions), battery smooth UI, no lags, fair camera, ...etc, imagine the impression man, paying such amount of money to be downgraded to half a day battery usage, software issues here and there, practically same camera results.
add to this, being in a poor country, no Sony support, all the above issues are hidden to the normal user, advanced digging needed to reach out for solutions, this is not like a teenager on her first period, this is called disappointment

Im originally from Bulgaria, mate. I don't have to imagine. But being from the third world you must also be aware that the lowest quality batches get send there and you need to be extra careful. As far as warranty goes, there is no such thing as "no warranty" with a big name brand. You can always send it to a Sony service center outside your country. You just have to communicate that through the correct channels. I managed to do it with a Nokia and a Samsung in my teens. You are a big boy, you'll figure it out
Now the disappointment part. It's not the feeling I am referring to. It's the process you are going through to handle it. This is a forum where people come together to be helpful/get help. Thanks to topics and posts like yours it is becoming a mundane and unhelpful place where people come to vent and whine without really seeking a solution, which makes it a less helpful place. Essentially you are making the world a ****tier place. By a very little amount of course, but it contributes
What was wrong with posting in the Q&A, troubleshooting section, explaining your problems and ask nicely if people have the same and what could be a solution?
Also don't be mad at Yolo. He has the right to be frustrated, just cannot express it very well.
I have the 6853 and honestly it works great... The camera is definitely better than the iPhone 6S+...my wife uses that and I took a ton of pictures using both...the Sony is considerably better...no phone is perfect but right now I don't think there's anything better than the Z5P...Android M will be out soon and it will only get better...the one thing that Sony is wrong on is Battery....as a heavy user, I get one full day usage, not 2...but its usually hovering around 15-20% when I finally put it back on the charger...another thing I noticed was that Sony's quick charger is slower than others...I have a $9 certified Qualcomm quick charger I got from Amazon that charges the phone from 2-3% to 100% in one hour...and I get it up to like 70% in 30-35 minutes.
Only battery drain a little bit too fast other then is perfect for me.
Before z5p I had use moto x prue ,nexus 6p, lumia 950xl but I feel z5p is better one
i've used the z, z1, z ultra (still have this beast), z3, z3 tablet compact, and recently got the z5 premium.
I've never gotten a lemon in any of those devices, and none of those problems happened to me before.
the z5 premium's performance is blowing all those out of the waters now so I guess I'm just one lucky son of a gun

I am still using my Z1 and it has never had a single issue in over two years but I am contemplating getting the Z5 Premium in black.
How would you rate it next to the Z1, take into consideration that o have not used or owned any other Z series device.
Would it be a massive jump and difference in user experience, in a positive manner?

I'll be brutally honest here. Go with the iPhone. It's the best phone for social media. I've been using the Z5premium for a little longer than a week now and I can tell you that the front facing camera is definitely not as good as the one on the iPhone. It also doesn't take pictures as fast as the iPhone does. However I will say that the Z5's rear camera does take better photos than the iPhone, albeit slower due to post-processing.
There's also a weird glitch with the camera when taking videos of extremely detailed subjects on Snapchat. I don't know when this will be fixed, but I do know that it looks distorted and really weird. I wish I could show you a sample, but the snap was a few days ago.
This is not to say that I don't love this phone though. For more reasons I like this phone better than my iPhone. There are just a few things that the iPhone simply does better. But hey, no phone is perfect.

i ended up ordering a 6s+ on ebay haha thanks for replying back! I know exactly what you mean, they haven't optimized the camera yet for snapchat i had that happen with my old g4 ..only way to fix that is to use the 3rd party snapchat app called "casper" it allows you to use original camera app. idk what it is but iphones always tend to have the better front camera even with being a lower resolution. Main reason i did not get the z5p is because there is rumors with the z6 plus/ultra coming out soon so i would rather stick with something that wont depreciate yenno

How does it hold up today? Is the overheating really that bad? I had LG G Flex 2 before with SD810 and honestly it wasn't that bad, i mean sure it was throttling in games but nothing excessive..
Is it true that the original charger does not support Qualcomm Quickcharge and need to buy it serarately?
Im planning to buy this Aukey charger, maybe anyone used it? https://goo.gl/O6gZLi
What else.. are there any issues with this phone that most people encounter (besides the overheating)?
My first smartphone was HTC Desire and honestly everything in between was failure and dissapointment, cant wait to get back to HTC. :good:
Overheating has more or less been "fixed" with software updates, I've had the pleasure of using the phone from Lollipop again and was able to experience the insane heat (60c) while running GPS making the phone too hot to hold. If you stick to later versions like Marshmallow or Nougat, I don't think you'll experience that kind of heat.
Yes, the original charger does not support QuickCharge. Do not bother buying one, I've got one and it doesn't charge up 60% in 30mins, it does go up faster but more like 30% in 30mins which is really not significant improvement IMHO
The M9 is a good device, and I love my phone. But I wouldn't recommend one, because of its rear camera, and battery screen on time.
You are better off with HTC 10. Better camera, better processor, better battery, overall a better package for some extra cash.

HTC One (M9) Really heated very quickly and consumes the battery very quickly.Bought here https://ru.aliexpress.com/item/HTC-...32702635815.html?spm=2114.41010308.4.2.VwOENs But for such a small amount of money it's a good phone!
Hello, i was also thinking about buying a HTC One M9. Im looking for a phone that is like HTC One M8 but better. I want for example stereo speakers and IR Blaster. Micro USB is nice because i have a lot of those cables everywhere in my home.
Hmm, did the HTC 10 have IR blaster?

No, the HTC 10 does not have an IR blaster. If you absolutely need an IR blaster, I'll recommend you to get the M8 over M9 actually. The M9 is really luck of the draw, some may overheat, some won't. It's safer to assume that you'll get one which overheats anyway, and when that happens, it WILL throttle everything. (Mine doesn't overheat in games but in navigation and apps which requires GPS, it'll overheat like crazy.)
Otherwise, I will recommend the HTC 10 over any of it's predecessor.
A friend of mine just bought a used HTC One M9 off of ebay in decent condition and what appears to be a great (and possibly replaced) USB port just last week for $129 USD. He is suffering from poor battery life and it is likely the battery is about ready to die (and having replaced the battery in my M9 only a month ago, I now know the difference between a battery that is going crap, is crap, is dead, is new. lol). If you are willing to perhaps do some aftermarket work and replace the battery, possibly perform the thermal mod talked about here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/one-m9/general/overheating-try-to-thermal-paste-t3232759 and replace the USB port, you can really get a great phone for a decent price right now.
The real question is if you can even find a solid, new OEM battery atm, and that is a big question mark. My buddy is getting his battery off ebay from a reputable seller from Hong Kong (shipping it to the US), so it will be a few weeks before we have it on hand to install. I am going to do a video on everything I do to his phone, so I'll be posting that in the future after we're done.
However, if you want a phone that is simply ready to go, and you have NO plans to root/unlock bootloader/install 3rd party rom/etc, and just want to use the stock HTC experience and hope that an aftermarket used M9 is going to last... I DO NOT recommend this phone simply because I think many people sell them off when the battery life starts crapping out.
If you are willing to replace the battery, possibly the USB board (way easier to do then the M8 was), and also perform the thermal mod.. install a 3rd party ROM like Lineage 14.1... then I highly recommend it if you are willing to put in the work. Its a fun phone to mod, if not tricky. I think the camera is okay on this phone, but I am not a photophile and really don't care about amazing photo quality.
I got M8 which got just 2GB ram/32Gb Rom but no 4G, consider buy the M9 for $136 refurbished phone. I think Htc make solid device this M7,M8,M9, battery normally it's pretty solid for Htc phone I think that's HTC reputation. So can't be so bad I would think. M9+ also worth considering but come with MTK Cpu/Chip. HTC 10 is now $330 32Gb Rom, I can't find 64Gb in Asia yet, Any know where I can buy one online?
Hello, me to I am planning to buy an M9 or M8. Now I have One mini M4 with Insertcoin ROM and it still works quite good for daily use but the camera doesn't work and the plastic chassis is broken...
Reading some user's advices it seems that M9 is not so better than M8 and it has overheat and battery problem, the camera also is not as good as M8. Do you think that today the best is to buy M8 than M9?
I would like to install some good Rom for battery life.
Of course M10 would be better but it is still to expensive...
Thank you for your help!
Thanks
I have used the HTC One M7, M8, M9 and the 10 and in all honesty the M9 was the least enjoyable experience of them all, but that was a general comment about 2015 phones.
Having that said I gave my HTC 10 as a gift to my brother in law for his birthday and I'm waiting for the U11 to come out in some more stores here in my country, which is expected to arrive with the 6/128GB model in the next weeks and I've been using my old M9 while I'm in the waiting queue.
Right now I'm using the latest update available (Android 7.0 with April security patch) and while the heating issue has been fixed by the most of it, it still feels a bit warmer than other phones but the experience it's not much different from the Galaxy S6, which I also owned for around 4 months. Performance wise probably the M9 will be better because of the newer android version and security patches, and more RAM for multi tasking, I'm usually a bit over 2GB so that means under same circumstances I'd probably be getting more app refreshes on the M8, and the M9 is also slightly faster maybe.
Camera wise the M8 was better in low light, the M9 has a very slow shutter for night shots and you need to keep the ISO under control, but daylight photos are good in context with the cameras of its generation.
Battery wise I can't optimize much because I'm running stock unrooted ROM, but enabling aggressive doze with one time permission escalation and Greenify and blocking Facebook background processing using the same method through app ops I use to get around 4 hours SoT in around 14 hours cycle, which once again it's pretty comparable with what I was getting with the Flat Galaxy S6 with a very similar usage, but maybe slightly higher brightness. I use auto brightness with low stats on the bar
I'll try Lineage OS later now that I heard the camera it's functional and see if battery life improves, but if you're are aware with what you're buying and the price it's good it's a phone you can use, but I'd recommend other options as well because 2015 phones were all a mess, I sold the S6 because I was as disappointed as I was with the M9 and the G4 it's not in a better spot in my list either, I used all of them.
Thank you DeadPotato for your reply and for sharing your experience with M9.
Maybe the most important parameter to me is battery life. As M9 seems to have a slightly worst battery life then M8, I will pick maybe an M8 on the bay even if it is an oldest model and it's less fast than M9. Hope it is the right choice to me
Ciao !

I believe M8 would have worse battery life than M9. Because M8 is one year older than M9.
If you really cares about battery life, don't go for both, like other suggested. The HTC 10 would be solid.
Between M8 and M9 , I would go for M9 though.
Hello,
I've picked-up an M8 on the bay two days ago for 100 euro, I hope to receive the phone soon... M9 is about 160 euro.
I think that HTC10 would be the right one to buy, but it is still to expensive, in two years I will buy it
Thanks!
steer clear. overheats & battery isn't great. i hope i'm not too late
I just bought a second hand M9 from gumtree (a classifieds site here in UK)....it was advertised at £50 but got it for £45.....absolutely mint condition, not a scratch or scuff on it. It seems I got an absolute bargain from someone that needed some money fast.
My device gets warm when i'm taxing it but it's more or less the same as my old sony running a 800 processor..... In fact, it's a lot better than the sony. I don't sit there playing games on it all the time though.
I am more than happy with the phone...especially for the price I payed.
I have the U11 since inception along with the S8 (exynos variant) and Oneplus 5. I really regret buying it since I cant even sell it now. I'm left with the choice of selling my other two phone and use this :/

The battery life isnt as good, samsung did some vodoo to make their battery last while viewing youtube, the Oneplus sometime beat the S8 if not on par with it. The lack of 3.5mm is such a hassle, I have my personal in-ear monitor, I use it to listen to music, and everytime I go somewhere I have to carried a pigtail. The phone is so much wider to hold with one hand, granted the oneplus 5 isnt far off, but it is bigger, with a case, I feel like its almost the same as my LG V20. One handed usage is such a pain. Not a big deal to me but when it comes to photography, its hit or miss, sometime it over expose sometime it doesnt. Oneplus have this issue too but the S8 really is a happy medium.
The ****ty thing abuot S8 is the damn bixby functionality. Touchwiz has come a long way, and Its awesome now, but bixby need to die. Oneplus is a good phone with top spec, but their screen cannot touch the S8 amoled, viewing it side by side the S8 just trump the oneplus screen. the U11 have good screen, better than the oneplus 5, in this regard.. Seems like every year HTC push out a phone that doesnt WOW or excite you, just leaving you in a state of euphoric until many of it quirks find it way back to the phone....SHame really, fallen from grace down to here.

I like the phone at the moment.I think it will be a problem to resell it because not so many people are using HTC.Nobody from my friends are using HTC.iPhone and Samsung addicted ?
The only thing I regret about the U11 is its size, but I didn't have any way to test it out before purchasing. It's difficult for me to use with one hand. I still have a couple of weeks to return it for a refund, and really the only newer phone that intrigues me is the Essential. But that device feels like a gamble in a few ways.
I don't see why you would have any problems selling the U11. You may not receive as much as you paid for it, but somebody will buy it. Someone bought my 10 a few weeks ago (with several accessors) for $475 very quickly.
No, I made an informed decision and went with the best option for me.
I like that the phone comes with a USB DAC, I like the sapphire blue glass, I use the squeeze feature multiple times in a day, the only thing I've got slight reservations are the change to the warranty stance over unlocking the bootloader and their updates not being fast enough.
E.g. the new update indicates the display sensitivity issue is fixed and yet the 001 WWE users will probably be waiting another month.
But then again, I'd rather have this device over any of the others currently in the market.

Battery life not good?
10 hours screen on time on stock is easily achieved on the u11?
Wow.... Your expectations must be very high

10 hours...did you shut off everything, turn screen brightness to 0? I can barely get it past 4 hours.
I use my phone typically with everything on, and auto brightness on. I never have a problem with the oneplus 5 or S8 last beyond 5 hours.

I dont have sensitivity issue. All phones works well as far as audio goes, I power my HD800s with a proper DAC/AMP not with a phone DAC/AMP. I cant see any in-ear monitor that cant be power (and power well) with any of these phones, its 2017.

thats the thing, phone usage is based on user to user. I am using the phone the same as my 2 other phones and it cant hang. You can go to any phone thread and there are people making ridiculous claim about their SOT, even in the S8. ask how they do it and they throw out a bunch of things they did such as turning down brightness to 0, some even put phone on airplane mode -_- c'mon man.
Im not which region your in OP, but in UK, you can trade your U11 to CEX for £415 against something else in store or £345 cash in hand.. and I think GAME do something similar.. Or eBay about £350-450 , which isnt the best, but if you dislike it that much.. then better some kind of cash than nothing...
The only thing I dislike about the U11 is that f**king News Republic is forced upon us if we want to use BlinkFeed, and your battery problem is caused by "News Republic" which powers BlinkFeed.. I actually really loved BF on the M8 and M9, it was useful, but Ive noticed that on the U11, NR is constantly waking the CPU when phone is sleeping and when your not even using BF at all, bit like UpDay used to be on the S7E. Im actually force to disable both BF and NR... and install G .Newsstand instead. Also, even when you "unfollow" a topic. like Football, or Chinese Politics.. it actually doesnt work.. I STILL those Newsfeeds
Now to me, BF was a great part of Sense UI.. and disabling it, is a bit like not using the Stereo Speakers or the camera.. its a major part of HTC phones.. So Im not happy either.. When HTC went stock Google to reduce the Bloat on their phones, why didnt they just bake Google News and Weather or Newsstand as BlinkFeed..
Other than NR... I love the U11 and my G6, but these 2 are my last Android phones.. my next phone is an Iphone 7 plus..
Battery life is very good. But excellent with a custom kernel. Get about 7 hours of on screen time.

It's not though... It's brightness set at 50 at auto, normal usage and even social media apps..
I don't use my phone that much that I can claim 10 hours screen off time, but my phone easily reached 2 full days of my normal usage and 6 hours screen on time during that time...
Loving mine thus far. Coming from the S7, my battery life and performance has been pretty dang good. Even before S7 root, it is noticeably better. When considering the S7 root situation of having to use an engineering boot/kernel, and the mess it made with the battery life/performance...it's night and day.
The lack of headphone jack is somewhat disappointing. In reality I don't find myself needing headphones as often any more now that I'm done with college and all that jazz. The only other complaint I have is the lack of accessories for it.

* Battery - my SOT is 6hrs. More than any other phone I had used except for the Mi Mix(9-10hrs). Lots of FB, Viber. Regular text messages and calls. some games.
* 3.5mm - you can't complain about this. You had to know from the start that HTC U11 didn't have one.
* Camera - excellent for me.
* This phone is very fast and smooth I have no complaints whatsoever.
