Why I picked the S6 over the M9 - Galaxy S6 General

Let me start out by saying, I wanted the M9 to be the phone I wanted it to be, sooo bad. I have had a M7 Dev Edition since launch day, used it primarily on AT&T. I have now switch to T-Mobile and the M7 does not have all of the required bands to be fully compatible, so it was time to upgrade for me.
I bought the M9 early, directly from HTC and got the dev edition. It has full support for T-Mobiles bands and has the upgrades I have been needing ( Faster, microsd NO BLOAT ).
I still could not help read all the hype over the S6, so I bought one of those as well, just a regular S6, IDK why, but I was not a fan of the edge look.
I have both now for weeks as T-Mobile was selling them ahead of everyone else.
From testing both as daily drivers I have concluded the S6 is the best route for me, the software combined with Samsung's own processor is flawless, nearly 0 lag, even with the bloat I found myself liking the S6 more and more.
What it came down to in the end was a few things;
1. Signal - There would be places as I was driving I would have LTE on the S6, and the M9 would only get Edge. Not even H+. It seems to me like the antenna on the S6 is better, so many places the S6 would get signal where the M9 wouldn't. Places as I was driving, where the M9 had an "X" ( No Signal ), the S6 showed 2 bars of H+.
2. Camera - Yes the camera CAN produce good pictures, but you have to be standing still and have the the steadiest of hands, I went to a concert and zoomed all the way in with the M9 and I could see the screen shaking from my hand shaking, due to its lacks of OIS. Tried the same thing on the S6 and it was steady as could be, no shaking, perfect picture. I have a big enough hand I use both phones with one hand, if you are a person who uses both hands, maybe pictures won't be that bad for you.
3. Wireless charging - No more ports breaking, lol. With how cheap the technology is, I don't use the wall charger ever. I found a few QI chargers at Radio Shack when they were going out of business for 5 bucks a peice. Get to work, place it on the pad and don't worry about it.
Trust me, I kept trying to talk myself out of the S6 for my sheer love of HTC and the design and feel, but overall daily use the S6 outshines it. I hope next year they bring their game back, as I heard right after the M9 launched they re-organized a bunch of staff.
What I will miss, the front facing speakers, Samsung should know how much sound is when speakers are facing you, but none the less, tis one feature I will miss on the M9
This is just my opinion, and the decision was not easy, but day to day the S6 won me over.

I tend to agree with you. Even if you take away their respective cameras the S6 just brings so much more to the table. That combined with the fact that Samsung has managed to make the S6 so fast performance wise means that it could be a long year for HTC.

I have a S6 edge sitting right next to me. I used it for a week and it deserves high praise. Samsung really hit it out the park.
I had to have a M9 for some reason. I had the M7&8 and wanted the 9 even if it was a miniscule upgrade.
So far I'm trying to find reasons to like the HTC more because I will only keep one.
I'm liking the Sense UI, body and build, and that's about it so far. The battery feels worse and the camera sucks. I hope these can be fixed through updates.

Lol...that desperate huh.

TLDR

If it is a question...then...
Must be your first htc.
Things get better few months later with otas.
I still don't understand why sammy doesn't invest on design. Then the software itself twz is too boring.
But well, just my opinion.
I don't even bother of saying to people what to buy or what is the best, unless i got a nice payment for it
I forgot, sammy focus their marketing for Women and kids, i m none of them

Yes, I agree touch wiz is very ugly. Sense is the premium Launcher. All guy's want it. That's the reason to change to htc to.
powered by SkyDragon ROM

Have both of them using as daily drivers, and using them about over a week. so I have somme opinions
From now on m9=htc one m9, and the s6e=s6 edge
M9 over S6E
1- Playing games on htc is much more fun than the s6e
2- Listening music is better
3- speaker quality is better (two front facing speakers, you can hear detailed sounds even in candy crush)
4- Battery life on m9 is better than s6
5- Easier to use with one hand
6- Blinkfeed
7- Sd card support
S6E Over M9
1- Screen quality is way better (amoled vs ips)
2- Camera quality (unmatched on the market )
3- Wireless Charging
4- Fingerprint Scanner
5- Build quality ( for me glass is better choice)
6- Fast charging
As you can see guys these list are primary for me and i am happy with my devices. Both devices are wonderful and easy to use. Both have their advantages and disadvantages.
The only disappointment is M9's camera. Although its 20.7 mp, it shoots crappy photos and i don't understand why htc still using toshiba sensor.
These are my opinions and i am not writing this to slander any of them. These devices rocks!!!
Thank you.

I too, like the OP, wanted m9 to be good. Bought it a few weeks ago even with no local warranty (m9 not released officially yet here in Indonesia).
Played around with it for 1 week, before I concede and bought the regular s6.
I hate touchwiz. Still do. But that's about all I have to endure. The rest are just sublime.
Edit:forgetting the lack of external sdcard option on s6.worked around it by turning on flickr auto upload (I don't have huge apps or games on my phone)
I chose m9 at first because it's full HD not QHD, thinking i'd rather have a good battery-life than a feature i can't really enjoy. Seriously I cant really see the difference between QHD and FHD screen at 5-5.2" screen. By staying with FHD screen I was expecting at the very least m8-level 6-7hr SOT battery life. However I was wrong. My M9 never surpass the 5hr mark SOT whatever I did (without crippling its smartphone features too badly). My s6 can get 6 hours SOT with wifi, and around 4.5-5 hours on mixed wifi and patchy LTE signal.
Loved the high resolution m9 camera in daylight, but sadly i rarely use my camera at daytime. Most of my usage are from 6pm onwards (which is why i loved my UP m8 so much). Again, s6 caters my night time photography need.
This is not a post bashing m9. I'm a fan of HTC really. Just whoring myself temporarily to the friendly Korean neighbor, hoping somehow the issues m9 have would be ironed out in the near future through great software updates. If so, i'll be gladly sell my s6 and keep an eye for a used m9.

The S6 is better in almost every way except the speaker of course, and this year build quality is a toss up.

If SG6 is so cool.. Why im having tonz of pm to port Sense 7 over it

I have a S5 and a Z3C. S6 was never an option for me, it takes too many features away, but I 'm not arguing it may be the best phone of the year. I also wanted something new and had never tried HTC. So I went with the M9 and I love it so far, it's like this phone has a soul. I knew that I would get an imperfect phone when I bought it (cheap, got an offer) so I 'm not disappointed.

Question is, why didn't people just buy the m9 if they like sense 7 so much
Sent from my SM-G920I using Tapatalk

Again my first original post was just an opinion, this was not my first HTC, I have had the M7 Dev Edition since launch day. Simple day to day uses, functions etc made me pick the S6.
Like I said in my original post, I tried to find any reason for me to keep the M9, I like sense over touchwiz but even with updates, you can't make a camera function like it has OIS when it doesn't, not to say it won't improve..
Lack of sd card is minimal for me, I have an unlimited data plan, upload photos/videos to the cloud and you don't have to worry about space.

They do, but they don't spam or get paid for promoting like Samsung using kids, students and girls. Maybe bad paid in a basement. In poors country it's a known activity, but to me slavery. People should be free.

Why did you opt for the M9?

So with the most incredible & ultimate mobile phone you'll ever ever experience (Galaxy S6 & Edge) according to most reviews why did you opt for the M9?
Mine stems from the M8 and the experience I had with it, it was for a large part very positive, from the stunning design & build to the Audio and speedy and great looking ui.
So I now have the M9 a very solid device and yes it resembles the M8 but with that nice and subtle twist. I opted for the M9 because I knew I would continue to get the same joyful experience with some added benefits. I was right and despite the optics not being quite on par they still produce fine shots.
Sense 7 is nice and the theme manager us fantastic.
I just much prefer the HTC audio experience and having the SD card expansion. The build and feel in hand is fantastic. If you look at the M8 development it continues strongly with ROMs .
Yea there are negatives like any other device but for me it was the better choice.

90% of my phones have been HTC's from the 6700,6800, touch pro, touch pro 2, Evo/3D/LTE and M7 then i decided to jumpship to t mobile and get a Nexus 5 after a year with my nexus i just missed the HTC Build and software, yes i am one of the few the prefer Sense over Vanilla. i could've haved gotten the M8 for cheaper but unlike most people i preferred to focus on the internal upgrades rather then the external design. Also the M9 will have more support then the M8 (the whole 18 month support thing). only thing that let me down was the main camera but after tweaking it a bit thanks to XDA im satisfied once again.

That's quite the HTC Collection I have had many devices from Samsung, Sony, Lg, Apple, Now HTC so a broad range.
So the build & Ui is what drew you back?
This is understandable and one of the best skins for android and I had the Nexus 5 because at the time a song and dance was made for vanilla and I thought I would give it a shot. I liked it quite a lot as it transpires but sense has that same zip and retains some nice features.
Thanks for your input & yea with some tweaks the camera is really not that bad (just perhaps not as good as yes the S6 and it should of been better) but for everything that the M9 offers I'm happy
1. Love sense 7
2. Love the m9's design and build
3. Love boomsound
4. Will never get a samsung/iphone ever!!!

I can understand your probable reasons for not wanting a Samsung. However what they have done with the S6 & Edge is great and best that has been produced by Samsung.
However so you take into account its glass & metal trim. I have to mention Sony here for credit as they also use Glass with metal frame, to be fair here if you look at it...
The Z2 is a early 2013 device and has even to date great specs and makes better use of that build being adopted by Samsung. The Z2 has water resistance, retains the SD card, larger battery, but thicker (not a big deal) and front firing speakers.
This is why I can see that reviews are so so good because its Samsung's first ever solid offering.
The M9 is perhaps being evolutionary in approach but what a design it is, and its been refined to a nice level.
I tend to think about the complete picture and yes sacrifices I may have to make in some area's.
But with some reading and experience with the M8 I have to only see that things are early and will get better for the M9 and its flaws. 1 year on and ROM development is strong for the M8 which I'm sure will carry over to the M9, its started already.
So I look at everything and for me, as great as the S6 & Edge are the better choice was the M9.
If you dare living with the best 2015 handheld - get m9 hima and enjoy d'TIME.. again if you're hard-coded by your karma for ****y experience you're departing to any other brand of your choice counter to accomplish what can't be avoided..
Reviews and words are of no avail.. 8)
Honestly thou, I do love the s6 edge design..its best offering from Samsung yet.
Even with the glowing reviews of the s6 and s6 edge, real world usage from actual users differ..3h SOT? Lags and stutters? Not for me

It seems like many are to scared to say that the M9 is a very solid device and tbh a fantastic device.
Believe me as I mentioned I have had many phones and this has by far brought me the greatest joy.
there hasn't been one stutter not even a hiccup.
I believe you mentioned about HTC and comparing the difference between it and the smartphone (which it is) but I get what you mean in differentiating between the rest.
Well been with HTC since the TYTN II, Diamond, Sensation, One S and One Mini..
Tho i was thinking hard about another brand this time, but i couldn't be without Sense. Reason why i was thinking for others is that HTC still kinda disappoints me with every phone they bring out, no logic behind some decisions.. Even tho they ask (on elevate) some things, i think they can use the advantage of having direct contact with fanbase like that into better usage.. Which they don't..
Anyway, still went with the M9 since I just couldn't think being without Sense, i'm so used to it that i cannot go with other launchers.. Plus the phones just feel so solid in the hands.. every HTC phone so far i've had, didn't feel cheap in my hands.. Plus with the extra service i can get through elevate this was basically a no-brainer in the end.
Since i've got it now for a week, i can honestly say that thus far, i haven't regret my purchase. :good:
Been needing to vent my thoughts on this phone and choosing to do it here. Maybe a little harsh, but I think objective. My feelings may change if I keep the device long enough.
Why did I opt for the M8.5?
Only reason over M8- Side power button (nothing a good volume wake mod wouldn't solve). I don't see any clear lead the M9 has over the M8 at this time. And the M8 has GPE roms, a plus for me.
Only reason over S6- Dev friendliness- able to unlock bootloader (even an ATT device) at htcdev and I want to support the company's decision to be dev friendly. Also HTC flagships always have a very popular dev community here at xda. We'll see if they're able to hack the S6 bootloader, if so the development community is sure to follow. That will surely get my attention.
Oh and a 3rd reason- I'm a sucker for new tech and I pay for it. I could head to swappa, sell M9/buy M8 and pocket around $200. Thinking about doing it but I've only had the phone for a few days and i'm going to give it at least a week before I make my decision.
Unimpressed with both camera and battery. 810 cpu doesn't feel any faster than 801 (which I've had on 2 devices), but certainly is warmer. All in all, not sure this phone was even an incremental update, but possibly even lateral.

Its cool all views welcome matey and every user will inevitably have a different spin or take on a particular product.
I don't however see it as you do though, HTC improved the camera and agree or disagree but it's far better than that of the M8 (this is just my in my experience, and my own opinion) secondly well Moore's law dictates that processors will double in speed every 18 months, this doesn't mean that with a press of a button you phone will fly you to the moon
Then there is the build and the more time I have spent the more I actually see the difference and the in hand feel is totally different.
The M9 comes now with 3 GB of ram and I have yet to see a stutter or hiccup, the battery life has been on the better side of average for me at least. As for overheating I haven't came across this (perhaps as I have mentioned in other threads, because I don't game) but I do watch a lot of video and the m9 has been fine.
This is just my honest experience, no the camera is perhaps not on par with the S6 for example and should have been better, but I haven't yet taken a photo that has the mentioned heavy grain/ noise or blur. But I no doubt will, like I have done with my Note 4 lol.
Give it time and if your still not happy then best of luck with whatever device you end up with buddy

I like your enthusiasm. I'm sure HTC would appreciate your viewpoint through those rose colored glasses as well.
We've definitely had different experiences with the camera. I'm a bit of a shutterbug and if i'm going to take pictures it's probably gonna be with my Canon 6D or Gopro anyway so not really worried about it.
I'm surprised you've owned an M8. Your review seems to come from someone upgrading from an S4 or M7 (and for those of you, this is a worthy upgrade- don't get me wrong). Judged on its own merits the M9 is a great phone. But for anyone that's actually owned an M8 it surprises me that they would see this phone as a worthy successor. I think that's my main point. That's what I want to share with any M8 owners thinking about pulling the trigger on this phone- you're good where your at. Repeat, grass is not greener lol. Don't let the numbers game get you , ie 810 vs 801... 3GB vs 2GB... the user experience is about the same with certain drawbacks I and many others have mentioned.
In defense of HTC, the M7 and M8 were both huge leaps forward vs the previous model so I guess we were due an incremental update. But considering they were struggling to stay afloat not too long ago I'd say their next flagship probably shouldn't be so incremental.
But I appreciate your thoughts Duncan.. I especially have to give you credit for pulling off this statement lol:

I fell in love with the M7 and but had it stolen halfway through my contract. My contract ended last week. It was a toss-up between this and the S6 but ultimately I had to have another HTC and despite its flaws, I'm loving it so far. Just hoping HTC pull their fingers out and update the firmware to fix the battery and heat issues.

This is a nice retort like it dude and your views are both welcome & appreciated however ultimately we are all humans with varying views and opinions.
Not in reference to you but we are now in a world dominated by sheep and a case of nod and agree seems to be to the liking of many but that kind of political so will move it back on topic.
No your right its not as huge as say the the S5-S6 for example. However Samsung had to make huge sacrifices to produce such.
The Z2 is the better option and please don't have a pop at that shooter (yes it has it flaws to) however its a 2013 device and boy oh boy have I got some amazing shots with it, and it makes better use of its all glass build.
So to the M9 should one upgrade? which the device is meant to be over the M8?
Well its a matter of each individual and their own opinion. For me the M9 is subtle in many ways like the build. I have compared the camera's and the m9 is miles ahead but behind the S6. I am no photography expert though so even someone with a basic grasp will see the M9's camera as extremely flawed. However for my eyes every picture I have taken is clear and without blur or noise.
The latter is obvious to anyone so this is my take so far. I will no doubt see this noise/distortion as I progress with the camera perhaps, like I did with the Note 4 which had amazing reviews, but I after time still got some grainy pics with that one, depends on many factors, the M9's shooter will no doubt need tweaks but for me its better than the M8's but perhaps I need to test further.
Overall I'm content with the M9 and if no one shares my views or opinions of it, you know that is perfectly fine, I under no circumstances wish or need or even want anyone to nod their head and agree with me.
All that matters is it a worthy upgrade for me, yea it is, it has a base storage of 32gb, build is refined to my liking, the camera is fine for me, audio is fantastic, sense 7 and the theme manager, its fast & fluid.
The recently announced M9+ should of perhaps been the the M9 as it has many upgrade additions like the 5.2" qhd, fingerprint scanner etc.
You would have to be a die-hard HTC fan to buy it ahead of S6 and the impending G4 and Z4.

Why should we all be like sheep though? Let's all buy the S6 or Z4 or the G4.
Can people not accept that your neither a fanboy or die hard HTC fan.
The S6 is not without compromise nor will the G4 be or the Z4.
We all like what we like and I happen to enjoy the M9 (Its far from perfect and it has its flaws that's for sure).
But can buy what we want without a label being attached, that's what makes the human race diverse "we have our own minds and therefore opinions" and able to make decisions based on these.
And if we are happy with those Decisions and freedom of choices then that's all that matters.

Going from M9 to S6 Edge....almost

I consider myself an HTC fan. My last non HTC was iphone 3g.
So I got an S6 Edge using of those "Try a Samsung for $1 for a month" deals. I have been slowing bring the S6 up to speed for the last few days adding more apps that I use and finally switched over the Sim card.
I think I am a convert.
The screen and camera alone is worth it...the M9 has that soft button and by not having those the useful screen real estate of the s6 is so much more. The edge is gimmicky but cool. The AMOLED is the way to go....it can be kept so much brighter and crisp without using more battery.
The slap in the face of all M9 owners with the A9 having not only OIS but also AMOLED...is just salt in the wound. Seriously does HTC even listen to owners gripes.
The battery of the M9 is better, not having bloatware is better, I like the SD cards (though Lollipop onwards does not seem to favor external SD). The speaker sound on the M9 is richer and I use the speakers a lot for music, but the S6 is louder. Sense > TouchWiz (themes can help with that). Front Camera is better on M9.
But, the S6 charges very quickly (0-100% in ~1hr), the finger scanner is very useful. more screen. For the value S6 is kinda expensive.
I tried keeping both with me, but found myself favoring the S6. Even without cases the S6 is just too damn sexy to hold. Has HTC lost me as a customer forever?
I understand what you mean, I have an M9 and my girlfriend has an Edge, so I had the chance to play with both quite a lot. All your observations are spot on, but my only recommendation is to never say never HTC is not an "evil" company imo, they did fall short with the M9 but I still have hope they will treat this as a learning experience and give us better and better devices in the future.
They lose you and just about everyone else if they don't deliver the M10. If HTC doesn't knock it out of the park (Amazing Phone Design, Amazing Battery Life, Amazing Screen, Amazing Camera, Audio Quality, etc.) then their phone business may very well die next year.
My office mate has an S6 edge, and I would say that I agree with most of what you said, it's cool, has and EXCELLENT screen and camera.
But "Sense > TouchWiz" is still debatable.
Samsung did leave their plastic trademark on the s6, but it cost way more to have 128gb storage... I like to customize, so I prefer qualcomm chips... The cam is downer on m9, but I don't use it a lot... I miss x-cam on LG though, best cam on phone for me... =)

Nice unbiased review. Appreciate it.
Also, are you charging the m9 with quick charge 2.0? Because HTC stock charger is not a quick charger.... whack I know lol
Personally i wouldn't but thats me, whatever floats your boat.
I'd just be weary of their OS, it's heavy and not the most serious environment, HTC is much sleeker so (at least for me) keeps it looking much better and in my opinion more efficient.
The grass is always greener, it's for that reason i've always come back to HTC as you can see from my previous phones. The S5 was their last great phone, it had everything, development was spot on too.

I have an M9, but I still dream for something else. The M9 is a mediocre phone.
What makes it a bad phone for me is the camera, display and the outdated sense UI.
Unlocking the bootloader is BTW something nice but HTC scares people not to use it in order not to void the warranty.

One M9+ Supreme Camera

Hi All,
I decided to take the plunge and buy the Supreme Camera edition of the handset, just to see if there is any dramatic improvement in camera quality, from the original M9, which I eventually returned for build quality issues!
Took delivery about an hour ago and first thing I noticed is that the build quality on this handset is considerably better than the original M9 that I had on launch. Tight gaps and flush screen, so very pleased. Over the weekend I will give the camera a proper test, to really see if they have made any dramatic improvements.
First up though, and an embarrassing question to ask, but UK English is not an option for the language pack on this handset. How do I download extensions for this, so that I can select UK English for the phone language? I thought it would be obvious, but I cannot find a way to do it?!
Thanks
please let us knowabout your findings!
So the weekend is over. ...can you or would you post your review or opinions about the camera ?
I really want to upgrade from my M7 ....has it since May 15 .....still kicking .
Please do answer . Thank you .
Still waiting !
I wonder if we can s-off this one and get roms from M9+ to work on it, the problem with non-flagship HTC phones is that they have nearly zero custom roms
Your language pack issue?
I have the M9+ and isn't it quite easy to change language? Lol
Settings->Language & Keyboard->Language
And voila, you can change the language of your phone. At least that's what I did. Tell me if it works for you.
Hi I've done it on mine bought it from Hong kong.
You can s-off with sunshine tool.

Yes, it has got the play store.
Can i install this camera on any phone.
I will buy the M9+ SC only if it gets custom roms. This phone is a perfected M9 but htc is not promoting it at all

Dont waste your money on it
"One M9+ Supreme Camera Edition allows you to capture your best photos in all situation with built-in 2nd generation OIS and industry-leading focusing technology (Laser AF & PDAF)"
This how HTC describes the M9+ Supreme Camera on their website, and I was stupid enough to believe it, so I went ahead yesterday and made the worst decision ever, trade a Note 5 for this piece of [email protected] Focusing on this thing is almost impossible, colors are always off, the camera app becomes so sluggish with the slightest shake. I lost hope in catching a good shot of my 3 years old daughter.
Add to that a below than average battery life that takes more than 2 hours to fully charge. Then comes the processor, that cant even handle the slightest games like Yahtzee Online and Domino!. I had to go into Developers mode, then turn on the High Performance Mode, which made things a bit better yet affected the already bad battery life. And dont try to watch a YouTube clip at 720p+ reslution, it will empty the battery and shut down before you are done from the phone.
Now I have to live with atleast $150 loss or else I would end up banging both my head and the phone till they crack open.
Oh !
Is it so !
So sad.... I thought it is the perfected version of M9 .
This has started a new thought ...should I now invest a fortune in coming HTC One M10 or go for SGS or Note series phones....
Thanks for your sharing.
Well... it depends on the point of view... I was using HTC phones since Kaiser (TyTN II) and now I have M9+ (not the Supreme Cam model)... I can do good pictures with it, good enough for a phone cause otherwise I'd use Nicon 5300 cam
And I do not really understand people swearing on the battery life... I am using the phone as handy office, calling, sending SMSs and Emails, even playing Fallout Shelter from time to time when I am bored, GPS, Internet... WiFi and Bluetooth connected almost all the time... All I need... Yet I normaly end up with 60-70% at the evennig and I do not bother to recharge during the weekend when I do not use the phone too much...
I even tried Asphalt 4 and it was running with no hiccup...
Damn... what's wrong with you people?
P.S.: I think I would never go for something else, not Samsung in particular, because I am totally happy with M9+...
That's very perplexing .
I have HTC One M7 Dev Ed...with a new camera .... and it captures great photos. Outperforms many of today's so called big shots in terms of looks, sound clarity, screen res , software support ...it can go on and on.
I am also a loyal HTC customer....have owned xda II, xdaIIi, Universal ,HD,HD2....
I am also not comfortable with other Samsung like phones...have used Note2 ....hated it....but...
Let's see what HTC delivers ...fingers crossed.

I wish I was exaggerating, because I loved the screen, speakers, and mkst importantly the fantastic design and build quality.
The battery got better on the 3rd day, I guess it was calibrating, maybe?
But the bad performance stucked with it, and every time I wanted to play these basic games, I had to switch on the max performance mode, which affected the battery life greatly.
After losing my temper and faith in this phone, I ended up trading it for the A9 32gb, and I am loving it. It might not be better than my old Note 5 or S6 Edge, at least on paper, but I definitely feel like it is the best phone I ve ever had, although I wish HTC gave us a louder speaker sincs this one is so freaken weak.
Battery life is brilliant, averaging more than 5 hrs of sot, and using Samsung's fast charger gets it from 0 to 100% in around 80 minutes max. Performance is amazing, and the camera while not the best, is still very reliable.

You must have known before purchasing man, M9+ have low-mid cpu-gpu, that's not its highlight. You can find those components on a Xiaomi Redmi Note 2/Meizu MX5 and this is saying all.

I am not a heavy gamer, that's why I took the risk. But I never knew it won't handle basic games. All in all, I am glad it all went this way and ended up with the A9, because I am loving it.

Preordered the HTC 10, But Also looking at the s7e What to do?

Hi everyone. I apologize if this type of post is not allowed. I have been mulling over the s7e SNAPDRAGON and the HTC 10 for the past 2 weeks. Id buy the s7e on swappa so price is the same.
The biggest things for me are software feel, camera, and battery. I like stock android alot. So the htc 10 looks sweet. But then theres samsungs theme engine. Now Im coming from and S4 so theming was light if any. What I'm seeing from the s7e blows my mind. The only reason I used to room my s4 was for different themes so no root on the 820 doesnt bother me especially with the new theme engine. The fact it themes everything is amazing. Not sure if the HTC 10 does this or not but with stock android look its not as important but it would be nice to change it up every once in a while.
The camera on both of these phones look amazing. Expecially the low light. I know the s7e is a little better in low light but its not a huge enough difference to completely be the deciding factor for me. The focus speed on the s7e looks absolutely insane. I do like the over saturated look of the pics on the s7e but not the yellowish tint. Video also looks very stable and not shakey. The htc 10 looks to be on par with video.
Battery life looks like something the s7e beats the 10 easily. Ive seen the 10 get anywhere from 4-5 sot. The s7e 820 seems to get above 5 hrs sot? right? anyone chime in on this. On reddit and the forums its hard to tell sometimes if its exynos or 820.
Does the s7e ever get hot or warm to the touch? my s4 feels like a burning rock in my pocket sometimes lol. Hows tw lag? is it alot better than it used to be? or is it just good out of the box then it shows up again?
Speaker quality isnt a huge deal as all i watch are youtube videos or plug my phone into my car.
Updates are another thing that bothers me also. HTC has a very good record of updating phones fast. Samsung not so much. Well more so the carriers. The htc 10 i have preordered is unlocked. The S7e Id get is Tmobile variant. Id try to get exynos but Id like to get a phone with the manufactures warranty. Also hear the exynos is hard to get repaired as Samsung doesnt like to repair it in the USA.
The whole usb c vs micro doesnt bother me much but I do like that C seems to be more sturdy and durable.
so what doesnt everyone think I should do? Whats your experience compared to what Ive heard? Are my thots right? to servere? am I way off? All imput is welcome Anyone here in the same position or leaving the s7e for the 10? or just decided on the s7e over the 10 and why?
Thanks guys! :fingers-crossed::good::good:
S7 Edge Pros:
- Bigger screen at the same size (which is a really big deal)
- As far as camera and battery goes, I think the S7 Edge has a clear edge Dual-pixel tech in a smartphone is a very big deal, Canon still saves this technology for their very best cameras.
- Battery - 3600 vs 3000 mAh - enough said.
- Screen efficiency - AMOLED vs TFT (that's why you get great SOT on the S7 Edge, but poor standby times on the SD820)
- Wireless charging if you want to protect your USB port over time.
- Much better technical support if you need it (hopefully not). Much better country presence.
- If the Always-On Display will ever be upgraded to display all notifications (not only missed calls and SMS messages) this will be a huge pro
HTC 10 Pros:
- Always-on fingerprint sensor. The fingerprint sensor needs home button press to work on the S7, which is stupid in 2016. It should be always-on. So I have it disabled, if it would be touch-only I would enable it.
- Speakers (but I don't care for this).

thanks for the reply How has ur experience been with touchwiz? Any lag? do you have the sd820? what sot do you usually get? Screen size isnt a huge deal for me .3 inches. Id rather have the battery life instead of AOD. Im not sure if id use wireless charging. The extra charging option would be nice incase but i always worry that the battery degrades faster over time with wireless charging. Having to clock the fingerprint home button is a negative for me. My s4 made an annoying crunch sounds when it was click. Its it a more shallow click now? Same for me I dont care really about speakers so there moot on the 10. Also for me its sense ui and faster updates vs Touchwiz and slow updates.

I have the Exynos.
I never hated TouchWiz and I think it is ok, no lag whatsoever, but I use Nova Launcher solely because I need double-tap to sleep. But I do have a dark theme set overall and it's great. Theming is a major plus.
The difference in screen size is big, around 20% in surface area. I had a 5.2" LG G2 and it's very noticeable.
The button clicking sound is bad enough and the press is not shallow. Home button is also raised (stupidly, should be sunken) and it could click in your pocket if you don't have a proper case. But I found a workaround, I hold the phone in the front pocket with the upper part down, this almost eliminates the issue.
About the updates, I don't really care, because it works really well as it is (except for the last update which ruined battery life for Exynos and made it similar to SD820). However, for the record, the International version received like 3-4 updates since launch, each brought something new (some good things, some really bad things).
Coming from someone who ended up hating touch wiz, I really dig it this time around. It's so much closer to stock and cleaner. They did good with it this time. I'm also coming from the HTC One M7 and M8, and I have zero interest in the 10.
The camera in the S7 blows away the HTC. I've seen a lot of screenshots of the HTC, and that and the S7 next to each other, and the HTC is actually fairly grainy. Pretty unacceptable, especially the last 4 phones, new one included having a bad camera. The S7 pictures are incredibly clear, the best I have seen on a phone personally. And the low-light is crazy.
The speaker on the S7 is actually very loud and fairly clear.
The screen size is much better on the S7 Edge. Plus the phone is almost the same size, another thing I hated about the HTC phones, they waste sooo much space on the phone.
The Edge places app is pretty convenient. It sets different settings on your phone based on location and/or WiFi/Bluetooth. Works great for me since I always forget to silence my phone when I get to work.
Can't say much about battery life in comparison since I have not read any real, long-term reviews on the HTC. But my S7 Edge gets nearly two full days in between charges on the regular.
Updates... I don't agree with you there regarding HTC. I have NEVER gotten an Android update within their 90 day BS. And that seems to be solely for new Android versions. Any updates to Android seem to either come way later than that, or never. My One M8 updated to Lollipop in March '15, then didn't get another update until December-which was not to fix anything, just Stagefright. And Lollipop did NOT work well at all, and HTC left us behind and wouldn't fix anything that was broken. That's where they really lost me.
Anyway, my $0.02

Well, their lack of doing something new for one. The M7 I think looked the best and was the best size. The 8 just got larger without much added to screen size. The camera was really bad. And this new one seems more of the same to me. All they did was chamfered the back, otherwise is identical to the M8 and M9, then they changed the front to look just like every other Android phone now, except the top and bottom bars are obnoxiously big.
Honestly, the biggest is definitely them leaving us in the dark with updates and letting our phones go on not working right indefinitely. You just can't decide to stop supporting your phones and customers if you want to stay in business. The M8 didn't even need the latest Android, it just needed HTC software fixes to make it work, but those never happened...
Anyway, to each their own. The 10 may be a bada$$ phone. I'm just really loving this Edge.

Honestly, just go to a store and play with each of them. Of course it's always personal preference.
S7E.
Why?
3600mah vs 3000mah
5'5 vs 5'2 display
Look of the s7e to me is nicer.
posting on the S7E thread, i guess you will get more positive for the S7E than the 10?
that being said, S7E for me. best phone i have owned.
Same. ?
If you want ROMs, root, and Xposed get the 10 or Exynos S7 edge.
If you were thinking s7 or m10 I'd probably say m10 but we have the edge and this phone is the best you can get, so I'd say S7 Edge no question.

Due to HTC being only 5.2 i've gone with S7E bigger screen but i still hate TW.

Why I'm not selling my U11

Figured I'd start a thread for every one keeping their phone since there's a few about selling them. Share your thoughts.
I love this dang thing!!
I originally bought it even tho my M10 wasn't paid off figuring how much better could it be? Well the 10 is in a drawer.
Lots of storage over my 10. I can now store my flac files on the internal instead of having to get an SD card.

The same for me, I'm past my first year with the HTC 10 and still have til next May to pay it off lol. Although I still use my HTC 10 for when I am flashing or updating a ROM, I have to have a phone at all times for work. Have you rooted it yet?
This is a good phone but.. There's not much standing for it, good camera but slow in comparison to other phones, speakers are a bit better than on the s8 but they're not that special, display is good but not up there with the best and the minimum brightness is still bright for dark environments, edge sense is a gimmick, the water proofing on this phone isnt that good and ive seen people having problems with their phone due to water damage and basically i wouldn't trust to put this phone in water on purpose and i treat it as a non waterproof phone, the battery is pretty good but not that great for me, The bezels are big, there's no option to lower the brightness in camera app and no option to turn off capacitive key light, htc sense is ok but it has bloatware that you cant install and no useful features.. Nothing special aboit it and i guess the only thing good about it is that its close to stock android and the performance on it is great. Basically this is a good phone but the pixel xl 2 will have better camera, performance, battery, maybe speakers too, design and display, software and more support. Maybe also better waterproofing

Looks like you like to hang with other Samsung junkies and parrot everything they say. You all are so worried we might have a better phone that you always have to come here to snoop and see whats going on, taking notes for all the talking points against HTC. My capacitive keys lights are off. What is this bloat you speak of? HTC allows us to disable and hide any bloat if there is any. Bezels are not even noticeable when using this beauty and at least our fingerprint scanner is in the right spot and has been proven to be much more reliable. Edge Sense is by no means a gimmick, I think we are well past that talking point. Any reasonable person knows not to intentionally drown your phone, and if you do you are supposed to dry it first before using. HTC specifically states this. The battery has already shown to beat the competition. The mics beat all of the competition, 3d audio recording. There really isn't much to complain about this phone some people just can't stand that something might be better than their beloved, super almighty Samsung giant. It's like it's their mission to make sure no one wants to experience it. "LOOK AWAY! LOOK AWAY!" LMAO

It's on the Viper ROM in buttons and gestures settings
That's the beauty of HTC, almost anything is possible. Quietly Brilliant!

Well i know that you can disable them but you have to root your u11 first and i don't want to do that

Yeah I didn't want to either with this beast. It really isn't needed but there are a few things that make it worth it and the main thing that always draws me back to HTC, the freedom of having an unlocked bootloader. Just a few minor things I enjoy like all black theme and apps that require root like the new edge sense plus. To say there isn't anything special about the U11 is just not true. There isn't much you can't do with it especially after the next update.

Did u even read the title of the thread?
Reasons why I'm keeping
1. Solar Red looks AWESOME.
2. Smooth smooth smooth. No stutter unlike my previous s8+ exynos that stutters quite often after 2 weeks of use
3. Edge sense is not a gimmick. It's useful especially after using the edges sense plus app (waiting for the huge official update promised tho)
4. Camera is awesome. Id rather have one lens phone that excels in image quality than a dual camera phone that is only mediocre or even good
5. Battery life is good enough for me. Dual sim, all day mobile data 4g, 6+ screen on time, 20 hours of total standby time. What I did was disable all bloat especially news republic.
6. Did I say solar Red is AWESOME?
7. That speaker.. Really love watching videos on it, good enough for listening music when I don't have my bt speaker around. The included noise canceling earphone is also very very very good. Haven't been using many bundled earphones for previous phones. But this one is a keeper.
8. Never had any problems with waterproofing. Then again I will never believe in waterproofing on a phone since I had incidents with z1 compact, Z3 compact, s5.
9. Fingerprint sensor is EXCELLENT. I have greasy fingers which usually problematic when using fp sensors. Had problems with p10+, s8+, Pixel xl, xzp. 99% of the time it works with this phone.
10. The fact that overall this phone bests everything on the market. I don't have premonitions on phones that comes next. But as things stand this phone is the best bet.

I'll sure drink to this list. The phone is a real pleasure to use and fiddle with.
I've been unlocked and rooted the phone, pretty much I'll stick with it for some periods. That's no perfect phone on Earth when you switched to others you'll find some other problems eventually.
What I don't like is the camera noise though the details is great but it got too much really and do need some more denoise. The size is a bit big for 5.5" too.

And what answer would you expect in the U11 forums? Of course not!

That's for you to decide, but here's my honest opinion. If i was supposed to use any Samsung phone, it would be the Note 8, and that's because of the 6gb of RAM, along with the refinements that are included in Samsun's 7.1 rom. The Note is DEFINITELY more fun that the U11, and that's coming from a diehard HTC lover.
However...I still don't feel that Samsung touches HTC when it comes to optimization and performance over time. I highly anticipate that the U11 will be pushing through the bits and bytes much more gracefully than the Note 1yr from now. Samsung ages horribly, and I'm talking from experience. My wife always gets the equivalent Samsung device when I get my new HTC...EVO vs Epic 4g, EVO LTE vs S3, M8 vs S5, S7 and S7 (got it with a BOGO...regrets....), and U11 vs S8. My phone always comes out on top for a longer period of time. So, I'm not simply blowing hot air when I say that HTC has much more consistent performance than Samsung.
Well, Samsungs are consistently inconsistent with performance...so my statement isn't completely accurate.
