i have a SM-N900W8 on 5.0 from rogers and want to try some roms, currently its rooted and has twrp installed, i haven't flashed any roms yet.
how do i know what roms are compatible with my device?
i read the first couple pages of the SM-N900W8 thead, it seems to be posted quite some time ago, do i still need to flash kernel and wifi fix? where would i find the correct kernel?

You canbasically flash anything in the note 3 thread as long as its 9005 or 900t (tmobile version) compatiable. ( if it aint here dont flash, n900w8 here using pronesis, best yet as its 5.1.1 from note 5) MAKE A BACK UP FIRST
so i just flash the pronesis rom and nothing else? already had that rom downloaded was a bit confused if i had to also flash kernel ect. any other devices i have owned had there own specific section on xda this not 3 seems to have all variants mashed into one section.

Yes sir just flash the rom, mods if you want are in like post 2 or 3 in the thread and use xposed by wanam for 5.1.1 if u want xposed
If you install and use rom, beware of the kernel if you are so inclined to switch and there are only like 2 or 3 available for note 5 port for note 3. DO NOT FLASH ANY KERNEL UNLESS IT SPECIFICALLY SAYS FOR THIS OR ONE OF THE OTHER NOTE 5 PORTS!! MAKE A BACKUP FIRST. Sorry for the caps but u have been warned just in case you make a mistake.

Hello all. First off I have a I337m with baseband NE1. I never see this mentioned anywhere and wanted to know what I can do with this phone.
I've rooted already (with towelroot) and wanted to get a custom bootloader. I've read and read then read somemore but found too many mixed staments regarding this.
Can I install a custom bootloader (say through goo manager) without worries or is there more to it? Does it completely overwrite the stock bootloader?
Do I need to worry about Loki?
Can we use other carrier ROMs?
Is it safe to say that everything in this sub forum works with my device?
Im familiar with flashing and the likes coming from the S2 with CM10.2 but there are too many varients and mixed statments (old to new methods) and I can't for the life of me find direction.
This is what I know about the i337m, mind you I don't have the device:
You can root using chainfires cf-auto root
Use trwp manager to install twrp
You can flash any rom here and you don't need Loki

I have the same phone on Telus... as far as the "custom bootloader" I think you really mean custom recovery, I use TWRP version 2.7. You can also use Philz recovery or CWM but I perfer TWRP as it hasnt given me any issues. If you load TWRP don't go for the latest version as I have seen guys have problems with the latest and greatest.
Once you have twrp on your phone... before you do anything else... make a backup in twrp of your current rooted stock rom so you have a starting point. In twrp, I like to do all backups to the external sd card as there may come a time where you do a factory wipe... and poof its gone...
In the developement thread... there is a rom called Mapleleaf works very well on this phone... I run it myself with the googy-max3 kernel.
If you decide to flash anything else... make sure it will work for i337m, I have seen people get into trouble flashing things meant for the US version (i337). Our bootloader is unlocked so you don't need saftey strap or loki or other things that the i337 users need.
When in doubt... search the forum... if you find nothing... ask before you do anything strange.
As far as the bootloader goes... try to stay on your current one.. mine is still MK6. Once the bootloader is updated there is no going back... period.....
This helped a lot man, I appreciate it.
So just to clarify, can I use goo manager for the recovery or should I use Odin? And is there any version in particular [TWRP] that I should use? What version are you running?
How do I check my bootloader version?

You can use goo manager or Odin. Just make sure you have the right version. FYI twrp 2.5.0.2 is the most reliable version that I have used for this device.
Tapatalked from California Custom Chrome M&M I337m
If you want an older version of twrp use odin... goomanager will likely try to load the latest version... as for checking which bootloader version you have, download the app phone info from the play store.... here... https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.vndnguyen.phoneinfo&hl=en
my version of twrp is 2.6.3.1 and it works fine... as stated... 2.5 is also recommended by some of the devs....
My bootloader ends in NE1, does that pose a problem - I rarely see it mentioned anywhere? I took the OTA in case anyone is wondering. Basically, can I flash something that's not NE1?
Also, I've been reading that the ROM that's going to be flashed needs to be the same Android Version as the current one on the phone, is this still true?

This will mean you can flash any rom (for i337m) that is 4.4.2 version of android. You can always go up on android version to bootloader but you can't go down versions unless the bootloader is an earlier version. Since most roms are 4.4.2 or higher, I don't think this should be an issue, not many people are looking to go to an older version of android..... bigger... better and all that...

Is this true, bc I have a bell galaxy 4, 4.4.2 i337m NE1 , I want to install a custom recovery,
but I thought my bootloader was locked because its says write protection enabled on the download screen which I thought
meant the bootloader was locked.

The I337M bootloader is not locked. What you are seeing when you boot after rooting is that you tripped KNOX since new bootloaders are closely tied to KNOX so any violation = tripped KNOX.
I have I337M from Telus with NE1 bootloader (4.4.2) and custom Rom PhoeniX. Everything is great except a newly discovered TD Bank App and inability to link my TD Visa to it...
Hey guys,
I'm new to the forum, so I'd like to start off by saying hello. I have a question, I've rooted my Canadian Note 4 using the CF-AUTO Root, and I've flashed a custom recovery as well. Everything is working smoothly, however, I would like to know if there are any cool custom roms that I can flash to make my phone run differently/more effectively?
I've looked and seen a bunch of custom roms, but I'm not quite sure if it's safe to flash it to my canadian device.
Thanks in advance,
-Nick

Nick, you need to give this rom a try, its definitely the best one I've ever tried on three other devices. I'm also on the canadian N910W8 so you need to flash a custom kernel as well for this rom to work as its a for a tmobile variant. Happy flashing!

I have the s5 active g870a 1ang3 baseband. I wanna try more roms. Just got this phone. But only couple say s5a or active. Found one that says g870a but the rom is based off of a different baseband.
My question is what roms can I use. Does baseband matter? Can I install rom that says active supported but doesn't state model? I tried using rom slot cause i didn't wanna mess with the stock rom. But gave me corrupt data when booted so now using stock slot.
I would like to find a lollipop rom. I really liked that on my g2. I loved the battery life and features on the lollipop rom I ran on my LG g2.

You are correct to use stock slot in safestrap, but if i understand cirrdct you want to install things like cyanogen mod, ehich is not an oltion since the bootloader of att devices are locked. The roms you can flash are under the att s5 android development section, and the post title usually states if it supports the s5a

So as long as it says active or s5a it is OK? What about baseband? Cause I have seen 1 or 2 say active or s5s support just has a different baseband number.

You should be fine, if it doesnt work just reflash a backup of your stock.

So I received my N910F a while back. After checking my device for any faulty parts that would need warranty, I have now decided to void KNOX and root/install a custom ROM. Especially now that N5 Kyubi is out and dr.ketans ROM is on its way. Anyway, I have a few questions. If possible answer each one in the same order as the questions
Even though I'm sure that you can't root the Note 4 without tripping KNOX, I thought I would ask anyway. Is it possible/any progress done?
Is there any progress with resetting the KNOX counter? Back when I was using my trusty N2, some files were leaked that would reset the KNOX counter on the N3. I'm not sure if there is any progress since then though for any other device actually.
Right now I'm on 5.1.1 on my N910F. It's unbranded, complete stock, no modifications whatsoever. What should I do first and how? (eg. install latest TWRP/CWM with ODIN and then any ROM you want)
Do I have to change my bootloader in order to flash a ROM? (eg. Kyubi Note 5 ROM)
After installing TWRP/CWM are there any restrictions to what ROM I install? For example, not being able to install a KitKat custom ROM on my phone etc. (like i said I'm on latest stock 5.1.1 atm)
Thanks in advance everyone, I want to clear things up in my head a little!
Is it really that difficult for one of the 75 people that viewed this thread to answer my questions? At least point me to a thread where all is explained with many details. I understand that these questions may have already been answered but I couldn't find them with a search.

I would love some replies.
cyanogenmod 12.1 user here. no, you don't need to change your bootloader. to flash cyanogen you need to flash the correct TWRP with odin first then the cyanogenmod 12.1 nightly and gapps (I use opengapps) through TWRP.
the following post should have all the info you need.

no worries. the cyanogenmod 12.1 nightlies have been extremely stable for me so far, i'm loving the phone.
So I've normally been good at figuring stuff out on my own when flashing custom roms, rooting, etc but it's been awhile since I've messed with it and it seems things keep getting tougher (or maybe it's just me). Anyway here is the story... I am currently running JasmineROM (Android 5.0 Lollipop) on my Verizon Note 3 (SM-N900V), but I was considering upgrading to a version 6 Marshmellow rom like Temasek. One problem is that for some reason, I never installed a custom recovery so I am not sure how to proceed. I guess my questions are:
1. Do I need to downgrade to Kit-Kat somehow to install TWRP, and if so, what is a good guide?
2. What is the best, fastest, bloatware-free Marshmellow custom rom out there for SM-N900V right now?
3. I looked at the installation instructions for TWRP and it says to only use a specific version depending on whether your bootloader is the upgraded kit-kat version or not. How do I know this? Would it be updated since I'm using a 5.0 rom?
Sorry for the noobish questions and thanks in advance for any help!
Easy answers:
1 you can not back rev to KitKat
2 you can not install any custom recovery until you unlock the bootloader
3 you can not install any version of Marshmallow until you have installed a custom recovery because there is no official Marshmallow for the Verizon Note 3
Look in this forum for how to unlock the bootloader.

b. Install TWRP ( I used 3.0.2-0 ) the easy way: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jmz.soft.twrpmanager
c. Install CM13 ( This is the only MM ROM I could get to work on the Verizon network) - http://forum.xda-developers.com/ver...opment/rom-temaseks-unofficial-build-t3364382
Thanks for the help! I managed to figure it out myself after realizing I needed to unlock the bootloader. Thanks for taking the time to post!

idk if miui works with a verizon sim card but im currently running miui v7 and is the most stable, battery lasting, etc etc rom ive tried and i have tried almost all of them
if so i made a couple of threads about miui and how to install on vzw
