Hey guys,
I'm new to the forum, so I'd like to start off by saying hello. I have a question, I've rooted my Canadian Note 4 using the CF-AUTO Root, and I've flashed a custom recovery as well. Everything is working smoothly, however, I would like to know if there are any cool custom roms that I can flash to make my phone run differently/more effectively?
I've looked and seen a bunch of custom roms, but I'm not quite sure if it's safe to flash it to my canadian device.
Thanks in advance,
-Nick

Nick, you need to give this rom a try, its definitely the best one I've ever tried on three other devices. I'm also on the canadian N910W8 so you need to flash a custom kernel as well for this rom to work as its a for a tmobile variant. Happy flashing!

Hello,
Just as the title suggests I am curious if I am able to use a I9505 rom on a I337m S4? It seems that theoretically it would work considering the hardware is the exact same (correct me if I'm wrong) but I'm just curious if it were to work could I potentially run into issues with the baseband being different? Sorry I'm really new to this whole flashing thing
Any help would be greatly appreciated,
PhantomMango
Yes. I used foxhound for a while on my i337. I had to use an auto-loki recovery but you won't need to if you have an i337m. Just make a backup and don't flash i9500 roms.
Sent from Alpha S4 courtesy of Jamison904, mrimpossible, gharrington, tunasty and other great devs.
Really? I had a whole thread on this question lol well atleast someone answered it somewhere else. I had the impression you could not since i tried to flash a rom from the i9505 section and it did not boot after that. I had to use one from here , It didnt make much sense why they wouldnt be compatible in the first place. So you can use roms that are from i9505?? Maybe I had a bad flash ??
Did you flash a kernel from here right after flashing the rom? I would download a kernel and the loki-doki zip. Try the kernel first and if it doesn't boot, try Loki-doki zip then boot. Like I said, I used foxhound for about a month not one issue.

Wow thanks for the replies everyone!
But I just have some more questions, when choosing a custom ROM do they already come with a kernel or do I have to "supply" my own that made for my is particular carrier? And I assume it would just be trial and error to find out which kernels work best with a particular ROM. Or should I just use the custom Kernel that the ROM developer suggests since I337m has an unlocked bootloader.
Thanks,
PhantomMango

You may have run into these issues if you have the ATT i337 -- as posters above have said, you'll need to apply the loki patch or otherwise your device won't boot.
i337M (Canadian) users, to my understanding, should be able to flash i9505 ROMs as is, given the unlocked bootloader.

I believe some stock kernels will work, not sure if all will. I used Omega on my i337m with KTs T-Mobile Kernel and it worked really well.
Thanks for the feedback so far,
But I just want to be 100% sure that I am able to flash this ROM on my phone after rooting. I am wanting to flash this ROM using this guide so can somebody again provide reassurance to me that this would work on my I337m phone and not brick it. I just don't want to cause any confusion with what I meant by custom ROM (In this case AOSP).
Thanks,
PhantomMango
I wouldn't follow guides outside of XDA. There are plenty here that have been proven to work. Read the ROM's OP and first/last 20 pages at least. Your're bootloader is unlocked so no loki-doki needed.
For Canadian, you want the TMO kernel from here--the TW Jellybean 4.3 one and follow flash instructions in KT's OP there
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2289140
Always Nandroid before flashing new things and have sdcard backups on pc as well as the Nandroid
And if still uncertain--READ READ READ

Oh, OK then. I had heard that term and probably read about it. Just forgot. The kernel is OK for you. Just don't use his ATT ones. Just the TMO.

What's a good lightweight, no bloat TW rom? I noticed Omega has a lot of additional features, which I would never use like the Xposed framework.
I was thinking of going with Goldeneye, but not sure if it has been updated to support I337M again.

same here ..
you should try xposed framework ,and wanam xposed .There a lot of xposed module and i can costumize touchwiz like i want, like maximize widget, wich allow me to click on a notification without having to unlock. For shure its a personnal choice.
But in omega you can choose the app that you want ,if you dont want xposed just unselect it ,it use aroma installer when you flash it,you can remove a lot of apps

Goldeneye never lost compatibility with our phones, so not sure what kind of support you expect or require.? IB4STiD simply requested not to complain from Canadian side for known problems, like lack of 4.3 modem for our phone, which we now got.
Simply flash Canadian compatible third party kernel, (one without knox) after flashing goldeneye, that's it.

Thank you a lot.
EDIT: Do you mean the kernel in step 6 in this post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=47819176&postcount=9322
It's in GE thread, first post, Canadian fix. Guess iB4STiD opened it up for us again.
But basically go to original development and whichever tw kernel you pick, follow the links to Canadian or T-Mobile compatible version. Kernel makers usually describe whether we have our own or we should use T-Mobile one

So, as I understand, we absolutely need this Advanced CWM recovery if we are running MK6.
We can't use standard CWM or TWRP recovery?

From what I gather, we can use CWM or TWRP, it just blows the Knox counter and warranty is void. Which is why cf-auto-root can still root, and why u can just throw rom manager on to install cwm (then remove, dont install roms with rom manager). This is only for MK6 (rogers/canadian). I would try a cwm or twrp, and just use cf-auto root to reinstall the stock recovery with odin if you run into problems.

This is only relevant for GE versions 13/14. The latest is GE15. As already explained, just follow steps in 1st post. There is a section called 'Canadian install guide', can't miss it. The fix you flash after the rom is the kernel for our baseband (Step A). Easy as pie. Step B is optional, changes network icons from default to whatever your carrier uses (e.g., 4G to LTE).
I would recommend creating a backup of stock once rooted before flashing custom roms. Not sure if there's ever going to be a fix for resetting knox, but traditionally it was a good idea to have this in case you ever want to revert back to stock and unroot. Also backup EFS to be safe, for more info: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1308546. I personally had to use an app for that after updating, knox kept preventing me from connecting to the program but that was when OTA was launched, might work for you.

FYI I did it the easy way using the Cyanogen Installer.
Ended with CM10.2 and CWM 6.0.4.4.
Then I flashed CWM Touch 6.0.4.4 from CWM. Downloaded TWRP but did not try it.

Hi All
Does anyone know if an app like Safestrap exists for the Note 3 SM-N9005??
In the original thread it mentions its only for Verizon phones??
The reason i ask is there are so many custom roms and i'd like to find out which out suits me the best (without having to fully test and flash 10 different roms).
Other than that, what custom roms are you guys using at present??
Bobcat, X-note and Omega seems popular at the moment
Phone facts:
Knox at 0x1
Phone on MJ7
Recovery is CWM
Based in the uk
Thanks all

I'm on crash rom I've tried them all
All good roms crash and omega are almost stock and the others are themed
@jaythenut
Brilliant, wondered why there was so many roms but most of them all do the same thing!!!
I've read up on Omega but never heard of Crash, will look in to in now.
How did you choose which rom was the best for you?? Did you flash each one individually?? That must have been so time consuming!!

Hello, I've installed tons of custom roms on quite a few different devices before, but this is the first one I've owned with a bootloader that can't be unlocked and I'm still kind of confused as to how all of these workarounds function and what ROMs they're compatible with. I've unlocked the phone and am using it on T-Mobile. It's currently on the MLD KitKat leaked version.
This is possibly wrong, but my understanding is that you are currently unable to install custom ROMs like CM and Omni on this device. So would it be possible to at least flash the stock T-Mobile ROM instead of AT&T? Right now, I have no access to hotspot, which is included in my plan, and I'd also like to use WiFi calling if possible. Has this been done before and is it possible on my firmware?
Thanks in advance for any help; it's greatly appreciated.

You can not flash their stock firmware. You can, however, use Safestrap to flash a ROM from their section, which as long as it is based from the stock firmware will have those features.
I have flashed HYPERDRIVE ROM with T-Mobile compatibility pack and works fine ! Even WiFi calling works!

Also, if you havent done so, you might want to enable AWS for further compatibility. You will need to use the stock AT&T TW ROM in order to do so.

Since you're using Safestrap, you can't flash a kernel anyways due to the locked bootloader. You should be able to go ahead and flash that.

Sure you could. You need to root the phone, install the flasher (either flashfire or stafstrap) and flash a custom room.
