Hi!
My HD2 loses connection to the web randomly. When this happens I still got H or 3g, but Opera, Twitter, Facebook++ can't be used. I have to restart my device to get the web connection back. This happens randomly, but probably around 1-2 times a day.
Starting to get very frustrating. Help?
Running my default 1.48 rom.
I had this on my diamond - I thought it was Sure's data service being rubbish. I get it sometimes on my HD2 between 12 and 60-odd hours use. I can't tell if it's a phone or network thing though.
However, there's an easier way to get connection back. Just turn the data connection off and on again - takes a few seconds, much faster than resetting.
Turning the data connection off and on again worked. Thanks!
Anyone with a more permanent solution?
I've got the same issue here. Switching on and off the data connection indeed helps, but a permanent solution would be great!
Regards
+1, have the same issue. Thought it because I use two APN's (one general and one for work to reach exchance server). But seems to be more general issue.
Hi...
There are many of us struggling with the same issue. Hardly an outside chance that all of us have the same provider, which only leaves one possibility... must be something related to the phone. Options I can think of are listed below.
1. Hardware issue - would help if HTC were to release a statement either way.
2. Software issue - wonder if the problem can be traced back to the browsers?
Suggestion: lets all place a feedback on the thread regarding when the problems occur. Until now I have seen the issue haunting me in 2 browsers; Opera 9.7 and latest downloadable skyfire version. Only once or twice in IE. I'm inclined to think it is a software issue
Not only a browser issue for me. When this happens I can't update the weather, facebook, twitter or mail...
When I went to bed yesterday everything was working fine. When I woke up today the web was gone...
What happenes if you guys try Skyfire as web-browser?
I have similar problem with my WiFi, but it dies within 1 min after restart.
Only skype and skyfire work, youtube and opera stop working.
data connection drops out
same problem here (Netherlands Vodafone) ?????
i think.... this may be because of the network switching between H and 3G versions.. when it happens, a temp stop in all network activity will occur
can confirm it here also on 1.43 and 1.61 roms. I found that setting my phone to hsdpa only (as upposed to hsdpa and hsupa) it improved stability.
Vodafone nederland denk ik ja.. ik heb er namelijk ook altijd last van! :S
same here... having the intermittent network problem. My HTC Hero was much stable then. This phone is indeed having lots of issues. Disappointing....
I had it on 1.43 regaularly, since shoehorning 1.48 into my Vodafone UK HD2 it hasn't been so regular, I think only once.
When I had it on 1.43 it was like the data connection was active but there were no available resources remaining to use it. Not sure exactly but I noticed the more programs I had running and connected to the internet in the background the more frequently it would cut out.
I have this too, it's easily the biggest problem with the HD2.
This problem didn't start with me until I switched from the stock UK T-Mobile rom, to the 1.48 WWE and later the 1.61 which makes me think its a software problem. Prior to switching ROM's the data connection was brilliant, way better than my Diamond.
My connection has been stable and running for 71 hours since I removed Dutty's taskmanager. Could be a coincidence, but maybe worth a try?
I have this problem also but only since a shortwhile. Might it have something to do with the SIM contacts hotfix? After that my problem with the data connection begun. Going to deinstall this hotfix and see what happens.
P.S.1: My TP2 does not suffer from this problem
P.S.2: Does anyone know how to deinstall this SIM contacts fix, cause it's not listed in the installed programs list. Or does anyone has the radio version belonging to the original 1.48 Dutch ROM??
Did a hardreset
Installed only Resco Explorer
En the problem is stil here!!!
Rom 1.44.172.7 Vodafone Netherlands
Radio 2.04.50.22-2

I removed my email accounts, en now the problem is gone.
i have a dataconnecion that is 22 hours stabil
hi,
for a while i notice problems with the internet-connection (3g) on my magic.
sometimes the 3g-symbol disapears automaticalle - sometimes not
-> if this happens, gmail & browser cannot reveive data from the web.
the connection only comes back after switching to flight-mode and back (or full reboot of the phone)
(i'm using cyanogen 4.2.13 - a friend of mine using the original fw reports the same probs - network: vodafone[a1]/austria)
any ideas/solutions???
kind regards, bono
here the problem is discussed in desire forum, but the problem came up also on my 2 nexus ones.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=656192
here my final solution that solved my connection problem on all phones:
My problems are gone, here is what I did (after testing hours with different firmwares and radio combinations, APN Settings, Resets, a.o.):
Nexus One on Sunrise Switzerland Network (Phoned sunrise they performed a SIM CARD and data connection reset, problem is gone)
HTC Desire on Sunrise Switzerland Network (see solution above)
HTC Desire on Orange Switzerland Networt (exchanged SIM Card, was too old)
For your Information:
I had the problem all 5 minutes, best way to test it was GMAIL APP, LABELS, select a label => Switch between 3G/H but no datas, after 10 seconds => No connection, retry, when I retried connection was here...
Now: Switching between 3G/H but immediat data connection
so far if you don't have a solution for your problem it may be worth to try one of the above solutions...
I am also 'near Zurich' and I've never had a problem with my Sunrise connection on my N1.
I have 2 nexus one here, one works without problems with sunrise, the other had the connection problems and I solved the problem with a sim card reset.
Hello there!
My Defy+ (Motodefy Plus) reboots when initially powered in 10 seconds after the proposition to create a motoblur account right after the moment the Mobile Data Connection is established. I have written a letter to motorola support 3 days ago, all in vain - I have no answer from them on this matter. There is a way to evade the described reboot - skipping the motoblur registration and disabling [Mobile Network Data] setting in [Data delivery] section of [Battery and data manager] settings helps to prevent automatic reboot cycle. Using Motorola's official site recommendations upon this cycle reboot issue, I have done factory wipe&reset and changed my simcard for a new one, I have tried sims from different operators and tried switching on [2G only] and [3G only] modes. None of this actions helped to cure the reboot cycle. BasebandSwitcher was ineffective as well. *#*#INFO#*#* with its selector did not help to solve the problem. I have made log files by CatLog market application, which point to the source of the problem - the MOTOBLUR raising a bp_panic event. I attach the logs to this post.
The firmware is the handtec stock ROM 134.DFP-84. The Baseband is stock EPU93_U_00.5F.00.
Does anyone have the same problem? I have searched the forum and found similar issues handled by basebandSwitcher, sim change and nordic firmware, but they do not work for me.
Any ideas?
I've got the same issue here with Defy+ . It started rebooting just after unboxed.
Enabling the Mobile Network Data will make almost instant reboot. But sometimes it reboots without having mobile data enabled. Have you sorted this out ? It is really annoying.
Did you skip motoblur registration? I am trying to figure out the pattern of the problem's appearance and origins.. With no success.
I think I did skip the motoblur registration, but later on I've registered.
Mine started rebooting a few seconds after a very first boot. It restarted a couple of times in a row and than stayed fairly stable for a bit. Now I can't use mobile data at all, but it sometimes still reboots anyway. Safest option is the airplanemode :/ . Has motorola support replied to your mail ?
Yes, Motorola did reply to my email. Actually, the techsupport asked for my IMEI number in reply to the bug-report similar to the first post of this topic. This fact distressed me a little. I provided the IMEI and have not heard from Motorola since then..
You should consider contacting them as well, otherwise they will not treat the issue as a serial bug. As it appears to be.
Okay, meet the official Motorola reply:
Thank you for contacting Motorola.
In response to your query, our technical team has checked the issue for you, we would recommend you to check the SIM card, try to replace the SIM card, and please make sure that it does not have the code (N5) on it.
The N5 SIM card was used by several network providers in Europe, and it causes the phone to reboot.
If the problem still persists, we are afraid that we would like you to contact the place of purchase as it might be a faulty phone, we do apologize for this inconvenience.

This is some kind of bull****, I bet they did not even bother to look upon the log-file. I have 4 defy+ at my disposal, three of them work well with all kinds of sims available to me. A disclaimer from Motorola, nothing more.
I offered a remote access to usb debugging via "USB over network" to them, but they seem to ignore this proposition.
I sent the RMA form to handtec, waiting for their decision. The preliminary is to replace the phone for a new one. I hoped to solve the problem quicker though. It was excessively self-confident, I suppose.
It is good to know that if your phone has established the mobile data connection even once and successfully transfered any amount of data through it then it is completely free of the discussed bug.
I've contacted motorola support as well, they advised me to check sim card and do the Factory reset which I'd already done before. To the question if they have encountered this issue they replied they haven't had any similar issues that are not linked to either the sim card or the SD card.
I am going to replace my phone.
Anyway is there any stock SBF for defy+ I can use to get to the original firmware as I've also tried some custom roms ? Thanks
Interesting. So, they did not encounter a similar bugreport from me. Tried to report this problem for the second time through the motorola.com support form, but received a reply from the same person (Abdullah) and the same text to check the sim with a "resolved" mark.
Yes, there is an official stock ROM named 134_DFP-10 from clove.

Good luck with the replacement!

So, it is not a MOTOBLUR problem.. Does it mean that we have a buggy hardware?
Thanks for the official SBF.
Well I suppose it is a hardware problem, but I've just tried different nandroid backup versions with motoblur included so far. So it still might be the motoblur or something software related deeper in the system.
After trying MIUI I can't boot up the phone at all that's why I wanted the stock SBF. A new phone is on the way so I just need to get it how it was and try a new one. I'll let you know if the replacement is working fine or not.
What is your serial number? Mine is M776QS6VFV. I wonder if they are from the same consignment. China TianJin, 2011 September.
Mine is M776QU2L4S. After flasing shadow_2.3.4-134_DFP-10 it worked much better than before, but it still reboots occasionally, but now it is able to establish data connection and download some data.
Anyway the replacement works fine. Software version is identical to the first one.
i was thinking to buy defy+ m from india. should i go for it ?
Definitely yes
Phew, I'm glad I'm not alone , after flashing a custom rom straight away, the phone did reboots with 3G enabled, I was going nuts! I tried baseband changer, every ROM flashable. Currently running CEE SBF 2.3.5, 2G works but reboots from time to time. Eagerly waiting for a solution, will try new SIM, shutupbattery app (possibility of phone rebooting due to low signal). Hope we will find a solution soon!
Had the same problem.
ItS a hardware fault.
I took mine back and got a new one and now its all WORKING!!!

Yep, I thought so and have sent mine back to the store today. Hope soon will get back a new one that'll be all working)
I purchased Defy+ 20 days ago and really like the phone a lot except for the bizzare problem which many have pointed out. the phone reboots at random in middle of conversations or while accessing data through mobile network or while I'm present in area with extremely low network signal.
I suppose these problems are not specific to motorola products only. I've heard many other products to have such or similar problems.
I'm trying out a new SIM card from a different provider, as recommended by few members in other threads. I hope it'd work out.
Fingers crossed....Will update soon.....
Narasimha
Same problem here, as soon as I activate 3G or enable data transfers, my Defy+ reboots. To use it I must be quick enough to disable data et go back to 2G.
This problems happens with or without Motoblur account and I tried to exchange the sim card of a working Xperia, the Defy+ reboots, the Xperia went on good surf!
I also tried to update the android system (from 2.3.4 to 2.3.6), it does not solve anything.
Another test with a SIM card from another service provider (Orange) show me the Defy surfing on the Web with the 3G or H symbol (in blue like for the wifi) and without rebooting. It looks like a frequency band swithching problem because my service provider (Free) does not use the same frequencies for UMTS or 2.5G.
As this problem seems to be ignored by Motorola, I will ask for my money back and buy something else. But on the paper, the Defy+ is a great smartphone.
I hope someone can help me. This happens to me every time i flash a rom based in cm10.
When i connect to wifi, everything seems to work fine. The wifi icon is blue and webpages loads just fine. But after 1 minute or less, data transfers stops. I can't load any page, play store doesn't work either, but the wifi is still connected and blue.
Right now i'm using paranoid rom (i tried several others roms from team-optima, but the only one without any problems are the stock based roms). And my phone is an e612g, and i'm from Chile.
PD. In google i find some solution by disabling automatic date and time zone, but it didn't work for me. I tried too, changing the region code in wifi advance options, but there is no Chile, and non of them worked for me neither.
PD2. After ten minutes of internet inactivity, the wifi icon goes grey.
