here the problem is discussed in desire forum, but the problem came up also on my 2 nexus ones.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=656192
here my final solution that solved my connection problem on all phones:
My problems are gone, here is what I did (after testing hours with different firmwares and radio combinations, APN Settings, Resets, a.o.):
Nexus One on Sunrise Switzerland Network (Phoned sunrise they performed a SIM CARD and data connection reset, problem is gone)
HTC Desire on Sunrise Switzerland Network (see solution above)
HTC Desire on Orange Switzerland Networt (exchanged SIM Card, was too old)
For your Information:
I had the problem all 5 minutes, best way to test it was GMAIL APP, LABELS, select a label => Switch between 3G/H but no datas, after 10 seconds => No connection, retry, when I retried connection was here...
Now: Switching between 3G/H but immediat data connection
so far if you don't have a solution for your problem it may be worth to try one of the above solutions...
I am also 'near Zurich' and I've never had a problem with my Sunrise connection on my N1.
I have 2 nexus one here, one works without problems with sunrise, the other had the connection problems and I solved the problem with a sim card reset.

Hi!
My HD2 loses connection to the web randomly. When this happens I still got H or 3g, but Opera, Twitter, Facebook++ can't be used. I have to restart my device to get the web connection back. This happens randomly, but probably around 1-2 times a day.
Starting to get very frustrating. Help?
Running my default 1.48 rom.
I had this on my diamond - I thought it was Sure's data service being rubbish. I get it sometimes on my HD2 between 12 and 60-odd hours use. I can't tell if it's a phone or network thing though.
However, there's an easier way to get connection back. Just turn the data connection off and on again - takes a few seconds, much faster than resetting.
Turning the data connection off and on again worked. Thanks!
Anyone with a more permanent solution?
I've got the same issue here. Switching on and off the data connection indeed helps, but a permanent solution would be great!
Regards
+1, have the same issue. Thought it because I use two APN's (one general and one for work to reach exchance server). But seems to be more general issue.
Hi...
There are many of us struggling with the same issue. Hardly an outside chance that all of us have the same provider, which only leaves one possibility... must be something related to the phone. Options I can think of are listed below.
1. Hardware issue - would help if HTC were to release a statement either way.
2. Software issue - wonder if the problem can be traced back to the browsers?
Suggestion: lets all place a feedback on the thread regarding when the problems occur. Until now I have seen the issue haunting me in 2 browsers; Opera 9.7 and latest downloadable skyfire version. Only once or twice in IE. I'm inclined to think it is a software issue
Not only a browser issue for me. When this happens I can't update the weather, facebook, twitter or mail...
When I went to bed yesterday everything was working fine. When I woke up today the web was gone...
What happenes if you guys try Skyfire as web-browser?
I have similar problem with my WiFi, but it dies within 1 min after restart.
Only skype and skyfire work, youtube and opera stop working.
data connection drops out
same problem here (Netherlands Vodafone) ?????
i think.... this may be because of the network switching between H and 3G versions.. when it happens, a temp stop in all network activity will occur
can confirm it here also on 1.43 and 1.61 roms. I found that setting my phone to hsdpa only (as upposed to hsdpa and hsupa) it improved stability.
Vodafone nederland denk ik ja.. ik heb er namelijk ook altijd last van! :S
same here... having the intermittent network problem. My HTC Hero was much stable then. This phone is indeed having lots of issues. Disappointing....
I had it on 1.43 regaularly, since shoehorning 1.48 into my Vodafone UK HD2 it hasn't been so regular, I think only once.
When I had it on 1.43 it was like the data connection was active but there were no available resources remaining to use it. Not sure exactly but I noticed the more programs I had running and connected to the internet in the background the more frequently it would cut out.
I have this too, it's easily the biggest problem with the HD2.
This problem didn't start with me until I switched from the stock UK T-Mobile rom, to the 1.48 WWE and later the 1.61 which makes me think its a software problem. Prior to switching ROM's the data connection was brilliant, way better than my Diamond.
My connection has been stable and running for 71 hours since I removed Dutty's taskmanager. Could be a coincidence, but maybe worth a try?
I have this problem also but only since a shortwhile. Might it have something to do with the SIM contacts hotfix? After that my problem with the data connection begun. Going to deinstall this hotfix and see what happens.
P.S.1: My TP2 does not suffer from this problem
P.S.2: Does anyone know how to deinstall this SIM contacts fix, cause it's not listed in the installed programs list. Or does anyone has the radio version belonging to the original 1.48 Dutch ROM??
Did a hardreset
Installed only Resco Explorer
En the problem is stil here!!!
Rom 1.44.172.7 Vodafone Netherlands

Hello,
I have recently gotten myself an HD2 and i am very happy with it (apart from running into bugs every day)
the problem i have is the following, every other day i need to soft-reset my phone in order to get my syncing working again. The weather and windows live mail wont update unless i reset the phone, this is bothering me a lot and i havent been able to find a solution to it. Does anyone here know how to fix this?
Greetz,
Mega
I have exactly the same problem..
Weather and email won't synchronise. Phone tells me that I can't be connected to the network. Than I turn the data connection on and off, and than it works for 30 minutes or something. And than the phone refuses to synchronise automatically until I do the same thing again.
ROM: 1.48.404.2 NLD
Sorry for my poor english
i have the NLD Rom as well, another thing is that MSN instantly tells me i have no or poor connection.
anyone knows something for this?
Chaps,
Have you checked to ensure your SIM cards in your phones are 3GS compatible, ie the latest version Sim cards?
WB
in my previous phones (Touch HD and Touch) the syncing worked without any problems with the same SIM card. but even with HDSPA it does not sync
*bump* anyone?
i found out that the connection was permanently lost after going through a zone known as one without data reception
3g and hdspa all have trouble connecting in and near these zone
for dutchies: train amsterdam sloterdijk to haarlem spaarnwoude has this issue (vodafone)
*bump again*
Sim card is all ok
connectivity butts out after a while idle time
- MSN Messenger not signing in
- Weather not updating
- Mail not syncing
Please, anyone? solutions found here did not work for me...
Two days ago I flashed the latest NRG MAX SENSE ROM (August 13th, 2010 – Build 23129), I have flashed many times before over the last year with no problems before.
After one day my phone would not connect via data connection, no matter how I tried to start it, for example from a favourite within the HTC Internet Tab, a favourite within Opera Browser, through Internet Explorer, Comm Manager, nothing worked.
I assumed this could be a problem with the new ROM, so I performed a hard reset and still wouldn’t work. I then tried re-flashing this ROM once again and performed two hard resets with no luck. Finally I decided to go back to the stock Orange ROM that came with my phone.
Initially I could get a connection via GPRS, 3G, H, but in Opera there would be no activity, the pages would not load, same using Internet Explorer. Within the last 24 hours I continued to be able to connect via data connection but it was very hit and miss whether any pages would actually load.
Within the last couple of hours I can no longer get a data connection again.
I have checked the settings and they all seem exactly the same as they have been since I’ve owned the phone.
Does anyone know any tips to try or any information on whether there has been a problem with the Orange UK network recently or weather my antenna could have become faulty.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
The Orange data network is poorly ATM

Thanks a lot, been looking into it and heard similar rumours today, this confirms it.
Hello all,
Not sure if anyone else is having this problem.
First of all, better to mention what my Aria is running on:
Stock ROM unrooted. Updated to Froyo from HTC via FOTA. I'm not located in the US therefore my phone isn't under AT&T which many here are. My ROM is strictly HTC's Asia's ROM.
Now I don't have much in a way of problems with my phone, its just odd to me that every once in a while (around once every week or so) I need to reboot my phone. This is because for some strange reason, my phone won't connect to the data network (3G) or it shows that it is connected but no data activity (even after I've instructed the phone to sync all information, i.e. weather, emails, etc). I've tried switching on/off the data network connection and also have tried switching between airplane modes on/off (in hopes to reset something) but nothing works.
I'm not sure if this is an inherent problem to the Aria's 2.2 update or if there is something wrong with my carrier, however the problem is ALWAYS FIXED right after a fresh reboot.
Anyone have any thoughts on this?

Phone information. Set preferred network.
Try switching between the different options.

Thanks for the hint thinkhope. I'll try your suggestion. May I ask what you think the problem may be?
Update: I tried it for a couple of days and I still get the same problem. I tried switching between preferred networks but the problem persists. Quick reboot and once again, fixed.
I also have this same problem, stock/custom ROM no matter which ROM the problem is still there, up to a point that made me wanna smash my phone on the ground. I tried to use my SIM card on my wife's SGS and seems like no such problems faced. Is this a common problem for HTC phones?
Hello all,
Im "happy" owner of new i9100. Everything works great except data connections. When im standing still in one city everything works great. Problems starts when im moving city to another. When 3g drops to 2g or other way my data connections are totally lost. My phone finds the new network, network indicator is full and phone / sms works great. Only thing what is missing is data. This happens every time. Due to my work i drive a lot in a day and thats why this pisses me off. Its not my operator because iphone 4 works like it should. Ill tried three different rom and allways same results. Im forced to use my "superphone" locked to 2g networks ...Shouldnt be like that.
Any suggestions? Could it be hardware ?

Get a replacement...most probably your phone is defective...i had same exact problem on my first SGS2...nothing could cure it....and my second SGS2 which i got does not have this problem at all...using it with the same telco, in the same spot, does not reproduce this defect on my second phone...so for me the first phone was defective when using mobile internet in gsm/wcdma auto mode.
