[Q] Problems connecting to data connection on HTC Blackstone (Orange UK) - Touch HD General

Two days ago I flashed the latest NRG MAX SENSE ROM (August 13th, 2010 – Build 23129), I have flashed many times before over the last year with no problems before.
After one day my phone would not connect via data connection, no matter how I tried to start it, for example from a favourite within the HTC Internet Tab, a favourite within Opera Browser, through Internet Explorer, Comm Manager, nothing worked.
I assumed this could be a problem with the new ROM, so I performed a hard reset and still wouldn’t work. I then tried re-flashing this ROM once again and performed two hard resets with no luck. Finally I decided to go back to the stock Orange ROM that came with my phone.
Initially I could get a connection via GPRS, 3G, H, but in Opera there would be no activity, the pages would not load, same using Internet Explorer. Within the last 24 hours I continued to be able to connect via data connection but it was very hit and miss whether any pages would actually load.
Within the last couple of hours I can no longer get a data connection again.
I have checked the settings and they all seem exactly the same as they have been since I’ve owned the phone.
Does anyone know any tips to try or any information on whether there has been a problem with the Orange UK network recently or weather my antenna could have become faulty.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The Orange data network is poorly ATM

Thanks a lot, been looking into it and heard similar rumours today, this confirms it.

Wifi to GPRS/3G

I have searched this and other forums and have not seen either this problem or an answer to it. Per AT&T's suggestion, I just upgraded to the new AT&T rom version that adds PTT and seems to have big problems. My current issue is that when I first boot up and connect via GPRS/3G all works well. When I get to a wifi area and switch to wifi, again all works well. However when I leave the wifi area (or just turn off wifi) I can't get any data via GPRS/3G. The balloon comes up saying it is connecting. The little "G" and bidirectional arrows in the top left indicate it is connected. However in the browser, it just continues to grind away with "Locating" in the bottom right corner until it finally times out and puts up a screen that says that the "page cannot be displayed because the connection was lost". I open the connection manager and press and hold the "Data Connection" icon until that goes off and try again, same problem. The only way I can get GPRS/3G data connection to actually work again is to reboot. Any ideas what is going on or how this can be fixed? Forgot to add that this is an HTC 8525. Thanks.
From your description I wasn't able determine whether AT&T's suggestion was aimed at remedying the issue, or if it's something that came about with the update.
Assuming the latter, you may want to try a hard reset first and run it for a bit before loading any other apps. Failing that, reflash the ROM. I had a lot of trouble with my radio when my 8525 was new, but it mysteriously cleared up after a few radio flashes.
Thanks but still a problem
Thanks for your thoughts here. I hard reset and reflashed.
Yes the firmware is the latest one that AT&T has suggested that everyone who had the older Cingular phones upgrade to. It provides the AT&T logo, the "push to talk" feature, and some other junk. I have contacted AT&T about this and their response was to send me a new phone that they claimed had the old firmware, since they have been getting a lot of complaints about the new firmware. It didn't have the old firmware and also it's SIM card reader appears to be broken. I called HTC and they said that they too have had lots of complaints about the new firmware quirks but had nothing to offer to solve them. Anyway, the old firmware had no problem switching between wifi and CGRS so I don't think it is in the hardware. On the other hand I'm surprised that nobody else is encountering the problem from the upgrade.
I'm having the same prob. Purchase three of these phones and the other users have little technical expertise. First I set up a sync with my office PC. Then loaded the ROM update. I run MAC's @ home had difficulty connecting to my home wifi. Finally determined that the 8525 would not accept the 13 key ASCII wep password. Needed to use the HEX. So I connected. Went to work and had problems syncing with my PC. Active sync had to rediscover the device. Now I'm back home and can't connect again. My Device ID changed names upon "resyncing" and I updated the Airport Base Station with my new name. I've spent a lot of time on this issue.. Maybe I need to send em back for an iPhone!
Well I found a solution to it
This is a great forum - though somewhat hard to search through thoroughly. Anyway the solution for me was to go back to ROM 1.34. Found how to do that through flashing from the micro card at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=311704&highlight=cingular+8525+rom+version and getting the production ROM version at http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Hermes_Upgrades. Back to normal - everything works fine. Just for a trial, I also downloaded ROM V2.1.1 and it works find also - but sure seems a bit large - ends up with 42.9M of storage free vs V1.34 that has 50.25. Think I'll try the the memory expansion process at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=298327&highlight=want+more+storage. That seems to at least provide a more than 9 megabyte smaller MBH file but I don't know what that translates to in memory usage yet.
Suspect there is a way to fix this problem but I haven't seen anything in the forums on it.

Advantage wont connect to internet

I have been having a problem off and on with my advantage connecting to the internet for browsing and for the telnav connection. It started about a month ago when my battery would go dead in about 6 hrs of use and when I wanted to connect to the internet it would say: "cannot connect Dialed: The answering has disconnected. To check your connection settings and change them if needed, tap settings" So after doing various voodoo things like turning the phone on and off in comm manager, sometimes it would connect. Bear in mind, it is not the network or my settings, as my unlocked 8525 works fine when the advantage isnt. They are both on t-mobile with identical settings. I reloaded the ROM and it seemed to fix everything. he battery lasted 2 days, I could connect any time any where. This lasted 3 weeks. Now the connecting problem is back. The battery life issue is fine for now. I dont want to reload the rom which takes forever and then all of my programs and such every 3 weeks. Is there something I am missing? This is my first post and through 5 htc phones, my last before this being the 02 exec, I have always muddled through. But I need help this time as I cant figure it out. I love the phone when it works, and I need it for my business. HHHEEELLLPPPP?
more info
Sorry here is a little more info I forgot. I am connecting through T- Mobile data, I usually use Opera but the problem still exists through I/E. It works great right after a reload, but, with no change of settings, it just stops. I have put this SIM into my 8525 and it works fine. I put it back in the advantage and no joy.

Thanks for the reply

HD2 Web Connectivity Issues and Analysis

Seriously people....
I've seen lots of threads recently. People are complaining that the HD2's data connection cuts out, leaving them unable to access the Internet from their phones for who knows how long. I know, it IS kinda annoying...But the thing is..
I can tell you this IS NOT a hardware problem. It's something to do with either the OS....or something in the phone's registry settings which no one has picked up yet...I hear that phones like the TP2 do not have this error, and I agree. My old unbranded Touch Pro 2 was brilliant, I could use it for IM and texts anywhere...LOL I used to sit on the Bus while people stared at my phone, while I was on Messenger talking to my phone. Anyways, here's what I wanna tell you guys. Hope I help out everyone in some way or another.
What I have:
HD2
3 Mobile Sim-So yeah, My Operator is 3 UK
Living in London, UK
Using ENERGY's 17th March Version ROM
HUSPA, HDSPA Enabled
What I've noticed:
The phone cuts out the signal when the transition between 3G and H occurs in the icons. As a result, the Internet cuts out temporarily, and programs such as Messenger lose connectivity for a while. For example, when the icon is on H, and no one's talking on Messenger, the Icon changes back to 3G....during this moment it cuts out sometimes..until it reverts back to the H icon (Got that? I know, it's a little long and complicated when I word it like that, but read it out and it'll make sense xD)
Now, whenever I have the phone connected to my PC/Laptop (Either as a Wi Fi Router or through the cable and then using Internet Sharing, either way, the phone does NOT change back to 3G, it stays constantly on H (Mind you, I usually download during this period). Anyways, the point being that the connection is VERY stable and constant, when in this state, connected to my PC/Laptop and the device is accessing the Internet through my phone's Data Connection. So what do you all think? And what have YOU found out? Leave your responses and ideas below
Some things I have found out are, if you Enable ONLY HUSPA in the Settings/Connectivity options, the connections seem to be more stable. Furthermore, if you really want to, Disable Advanced Connections, stay only on 3G, and enjoy a LOT of stability (At the cost of slower speed surfing and downloading )
My HD2 does not connect at all anymore. I called in to support because I completely lost data connectivity (web browser, email, slacker, whatever - no connection). They verified no troubles on their end. I moved the sim to my old touch pro (running Energy ROM w/ winmo 6.5 and Sense 2.1) and that phone connects fine. So it's not the SIM, and it's not the network.
I've also done a hard reset to get back to stock and still have the problem, which tells me that it's not a registry / software setting.
They only thing that leaves is faulty hardware - or firmware that a ROM hard reset wouldn't affect. Either way I need to replace the device altogether.
Unfortunately, tmo is out of stock and so I can only wait for a more to become available before it can be replaced.

Which phone company are you with? I experienced the same problem with 3UK in North London for a couple of months up until the beginning of last week but it was a problem at 3's end, not mine. Other people have been experiencing similar issues with non-3 phones in London (http://www.3g.co.uk/3GForum/showthread.php?t=102192).
yes, I had problems in London too before Good Friday. Especially on Tues+Wed.
Others around me inthe library also had similar issues with their iphones. I kept on switching the baseband and modes, and reapplying my 3G settings to keep it alive and solve the outages.
Most people with issues were on vodafone or O2 (like me).
It would work, then cut, then work.
I thought at first it was because I had a custom ROM, but iphone users had the same - and lots of timeouts on requests.
I DO believe however that running ROMS like energy's and Dutty's HG 1.7 with 2.10 (which I'm currently running) bases as 2_08 radios is not great for the uk and exacerbates the connection issue. 2_07 is better...and in any event we SHOULD be using 1.72 based roms with 2_09 radio.
I have also noticed that on COM5 23544 builds the opera mobile 9.7 and 10 google boxes do not work. They come up as failed connection, but then i click on teh link and it works...weird huh???
So I think last week was because of network faults in London. But in general, these 2.10 based ROMS and their radios are not ideal for stability.
I had perfect call and HSDPA stability with 1.48stock+2_09 radio.
Having turned to a 23544 rom (Dutty's HG) with 2_08 radio I've had much less call and internet stability (and quality) over the stock with 2_09.

Strange Data issue post radio/ROM flash

I haven't been around here for quite some time so I decided to take a peek at upgrades...
I went with an old faithful, the Energy ROM, specifically the latest build of Windows type as well as the recommended 2.07.50.27_2. Although I'd never heard of it before, I had read up on Task 29 and conducted one of these prior to flashing.
A successful Task 29 followed by successful radio and ROM flashes, I had fun playing around with the new bits and bobs that NRG had included, as well as internet, setting up every program I typically use above the standard NRG fare.
Things were going fine but it had not resolved a long-standing sync issue... so I decided to investigate this. It involved me performing another Task 29 and ROM flash with some PC-side bashing and I solved the WMDC sync issue. After this I decided to load up all of my programs, customise the phone and make it mine again.
This is when the issue started...
T-Mobile UK connected fine to the internet. My connection was for all intents and purposes connected and stable yet I was receiving no data, unable to surf webpages or connect to IM services.
I tried resetting and reconfiguring T-Mobile UK internet settings and even getting T-Mobile to SMS me the up-to-date settings direct from them to no avail. I performed another flash of the radio and ROM and tried the internet immediately but to no avail.
Confused is not the word for it. It was working about 9 hours ago and suddenly, even with a fresh Radio flash and ROM flash, it refuses to transfer data yet connects stably every time.
Could anyone shine any light on this situation?
Well, I left my phone hooked up to my PC all night.
When I woke up in the morning, I connected it to the internet and lo and behold, the internet worked... websites, youtube, radio streaming, instant messengers...
Crazy

[Q] HTC data connection freezing.

Hello all,
Not sure if anyone else is having this problem.
First of all, better to mention what my Aria is running on:
Stock ROM unrooted. Updated to Froyo from HTC via FOTA. I'm not located in the US therefore my phone isn't under AT&T which many here are. My ROM is strictly HTC's Asia's ROM.
Now I don't have much in a way of problems with my phone, its just odd to me that every once in a while (around once every week or so) I need to reboot my phone. This is because for some strange reason, my phone won't connect to the data network (3G) or it shows that it is connected but no data activity (even after I've instructed the phone to sync all information, i.e. weather, emails, etc). I've tried switching on/off the data network connection and also have tried switching between airplane modes on/off (in hopes to reset something) but nothing works.
I'm not sure if this is an inherent problem to the Aria's 2.2 update or if there is something wrong with my carrier, however the problem is ALWAYS FIXED right after a fresh reboot.
Anyone have any thoughts on this?

Phone information. Set preferred network.
Try switching between the different options.
Sent from my HTC Liberty using XDA App
Thanks for the hint thinkhope. I'll try your suggestion. May I ask what you think the problem may be?
Update: I tried it for a couple of days and I still get the same problem. I tried switching between preferred networks but the problem persists. Quick reboot and once again, fixed.
I also have this same problem, stock/custom ROM no matter which ROM the problem is still there, up to a point that made me wanna smash my phone on the ground. I tried to use my SIM card on my wife's SGS and seems like no such problems faced. Is this a common problem for HTC phones?
