If you buy an EVO 4g off craigslist for the price they are selling them for, you deserve it. I think it'd be cheaper to buy it on a new line for 199.99 and take the ETF.. LOL
all the ones around the atlanta area were for around $650... I think I can wait a week and get mine for $199.
However, I can't say it didn't cross my mind to bust out my check book.
I wish I could just put myself into a cryogenic sleep for 10 days.
... on a side note, that might be the nerdiest, most pathetic thing I've ever said.
There's more of a cost than just ETF, taxes, etc...
I got mine pretty cheap, cheaper than the $199 cost + ETF, so for me anyway I won at your logic..
Plus if you get one of the I/O phones, you get an extra $10 off your monthly cost (which they don't list it as a year or two year thing either...) because it's a dev phone.

where'd you get one for less then 199???????????/ tell me plzzzzzzz
people paying like 6bills heck even 7 are the dumb ones..
Someone here in Orange County was selling his boyfriend's for 350, he said he got it for a tech blog to review and just needed to get rid of it. Don't think they knew how much it really was worth. D;

$199 + ETF is not less than $199.
I myself am going a route that is not to be discussed on this forum... but I don't want to buy a phone for $450 + Taxes (around here it's roughly 10%), so in the end it'd have been close to $500. So instead of that, I paid less than $400 with a free month of service (including 4g, and the option to go the dev plan route later).
But yes, $600-700 is too much, but there's a decent amount of people out there with more money than time. Just like Wii, iPhone, etc.
I paid 500 for mine straight up, new in box. After having it a week I will say it was worth every penny! This is the device I have been waiting for all my life.
i'm excited for the phone, but you guys are like fiending for it... the device you've been waiting for all your life?
I got mine for $500. It is out for delivery right now. The anticipation is killing me!
None listed for my area but I can wait some people are flipping out to get it early

Same here. I'm not remotely eligible for upgrade yet, so I'd be paying $450 + tax for it anyway. $500 for the phone and getting in on the $10 off via the Google I/O dev deal is worth it!
I just ordered my Nexus 4 off ebay for 499...8gb model overnight shipping because I didnt want to wait weeks for google and lets be real here the Note 2 and the s3 are 6 to 700 dollar phones and the N4 could easily be that price too because its worth it based on its hardware and just being a bad ass phone!!!!!!....but here's my situation....I sold my Note 2 for 600...ordered Nexus 4 for 500...seller paid for overnight shipping and I still have a 100 to buy accessories...and dont have to wait weeks for shipping!!!!! lol I know google is cheaper but I feel like I came out on top in this deal.....Im very happy....Have any of you guy bought one off ebay yet bcuz you didnt want to wait????

You could have agreed for a Nexus 4 contract with TMo, pay 200 for the phone and immediately cancel and pay the ETF for 200. Total, 200+200+tax (free activation promo).

what a waste, ur $.
For someone that lives in the US and had a decent phone [Note 2], it makes very little sense to me why you'd go to ebay for the Nexus 4.
Just wait a little dude, and you'd save yourself even more money.
They reason I did the deal is because I make money buying and selling phones and also I have an Int s3 and a backup Note 2...I have alot of people here where Im from who wants the Nexus 4 and will pay top dollar...I usually buy every phone that comes out and maybe keep them for a month at the longest and resell for something else...its a hobby...I already got a sell for my nexus 4 for 650...bcuz like me people dont wanna wait 4 weeks or more for a phone...sorry if you guys dont understand I myself like to try out every phone instead of being on here saying this phone is better or that phone is better...I just try them all...maybe ill find a phone worth sticking with but I enjoy all of them...but once again its just something I like to do and its a hobby sorry if I offended some of you...just was stating a deal I got...

I have never understood why eBay brings high prices. Some people just get in bidding process and feel urge to bid more.
Just all comes down to how bad someone wants the product .
And someone's phone might have broke, water damage etc and they cannot wait 4-5 weeks. They need a phone in 1-2 days.
So lots of factors why someone would pay $650 for a $400 phone ($350 plus 5-10% sales taxes plus $13 shipping).
And some people either are afraid of craigslist or just live in an area where there aren't a lot of craigslist sales.

Minus your $60 ebay fee, minus $20 paypal fees, minus $10-15 in shipping to the winner of the auction, means you netted $555. Meanwhile the guy that sold it on CL for $520, netted $520 and didn't have to deal with running an auction, or shipping an item out. Seems like a lot of extra work for $35.
You are insane. You said you sold your Note 2 but you have a backup note 2? WTF!? Who has money to waste like this. I'd much rather wait for the phone and pay $350 than way over retail. Yes those other phones are high priced but that's what they set them for retail. The Nexus 4 is better but was set at much lower retail and I'm not willing to pay over retail. I don't have $600 to go waste on a phone.

ok heres the deal....I sold my 1st note 2 on craiglist for 600....I have another one...why keep 2 of the same phones....I bought the nexus 4 on ebay for 500...profit 100 on that deal
next....I sold the nexus that i bought for 500 for 650...profit 150...
next....just got another one in off an even trade of craiglist...I traded an international s3....I know have both phones nexus 4 and note 2....+150 to buy accessories for the Nexus 4 guys....now do you all have an clear understading....
Im a business man and dont have time to wait on phones from google...money and time dont wait on no one neither will I...but once again this is what I do buy sell trade phones...
you guys bought your nexus to keep and hold...not me...I bought it because i wanted to try it out and sell it for the next big thing...like i said in my first post phones are a hobby for me....i get bored with the same phone after about a month...so thats why I buy sell and trade i love the new experience....hope u guys understand that everyone has something they like to do or something their good at....phones is just my thing man...just look at my previous device list thats only from a couple of months ago and I didnt list everything just got tired of typing like now lol...
If you're asking if we would have done the same, the majority of us would answer no. People are calling you crazy because you were willing to pay a huge premium; you don't necessarily have to agree with them if you're happy with your decision since it's your money and your phone at the end of the day.

You can do whatever you want with your money -- I just can't believe that you got a 8GB Nexus 4 for $500 (intending to keep it and buy accessories with the $100 "profit") to changing your mind and finding a buyer in your network (without phone in-hand) for $150 more, all within 20 minutes.
I think your business model and obsession with phones no matter the premium makes no sense, but to each his own.
So what started off as a 500$ unlocked (16gb) to 400$ and now to 300$ all in 5 months. [August Release Date]
What sort of resell value are we looking at before the Moto X2 comes out around august?? Im only curious because I would like to purchase this moto x unlocked phone now for 300 and sell around July/August.
At this rate, its looking like ~100$-125$? What do you guys think?
You should not consider a smartphone as an investment. It depend on how much more discount Google will give it. If the price stay the same, I would say if you keep it mint, my guess is $240.
You couldn't even buy a mint (international) Galaxy S2 for $125 and its 3 years old.

I am not looking at this as an investment. I am simply need a temporary to use a 4G/LTE compatible phone because I am using ATT Iphone4s on Tmobile network, which is very spotty due to different bands (And lack of). I will probably look into a top tier phone like S5 or Iphone6 come July. I am just looking to buy one motox new (take care of it) then sell it and have it hopefully cost me 20-30$ a month on average.
Im happy everyones so optimistic that till still be near the 200$ range considering its only $300-330 now. Whats the best way to sell? Craigslist, ebay or Swappa? Thanks guys!

Craiglist only if you carry a Remington 12 gauge for protection, otherwise Swappa is hassle free. You might be able to get a few dollars more from eBay, but they have lots of fees so in the end it's not worth it.
I think you should look to buy a phone as a keeper than just temp use. People have said Moto X feel faster than their Note 3 due to better software optimization. Seems like a waste if you're buying it just to use LTE temporarily.

Why not a moto g?
Also IIRC ebay + paypal fees run about 13% on a phone I think - about $40 on a $300 sale? Swappa is $10 + paypal fees (3%) - about $19.

It actually started out at $600 for those who just can't wait when a new phone is released. :/ I've sold phones on eBay and Craigslist. As mentioned, you might get a little more from eBay but Craigslist is usually faster. Regarding the shotgun comment, always be sure to meet in a public place and don't give your description until you arrive. Most people are decent and just looking for the item you're selling.

It's true though that the X has lost more value from release date in 6 months than nearly any other flagship I've ever seen. Yes that's because google and Motorola themselves have dropped the price. But even so, resell value for those who bought on release date has dropped well over 50% in 6 months. That's remarkable. Takes an iPhone about 2 years to lose that much value. Samsung and htc flagships don't drop that fast either, by a long shot.
I'm thinking the major discounts are going to level off...I can't really see Moto selling this phone for less than $300. It's possible it might eventually hit $300 off contract as the standard price, but if you keep your phone in good condition, I would think you would be able to net $200 for it in the summer (so $220-230ish before fees/shipping). That's what I'm hoping at least...
I've never bothered selling an old phone....I gift them to family and friends that have even older phones.
But, based on current prices of the Moto x, I'd say we won't be getting too much selling them used later. I've seen used nexus 4's for almost the same as used Moto x's.....
Guess we'll see later.

After I got the Moto X, I sold my previous phone (the HTC Rezound) on eBay for $80 (although I included 2 spare batteries, and had it S-OFF with an unlocked bootloader).
That phone was in rough shape, and heavily used. I think $100 will be the absolute minimum the Moto X would go for. A nice, thin 4G phone with great battery life? You won't get $250 in July, but it'll still hold up pretty well.
One problem I see is with bizarro color combinations, and the effect that will have on resale value.

Never thought of that. LOL. Moto makers will be a tough sell. They'd have to like the color combination to even consider it. Personally if I saw a wood back phone in the classifieds, I'd be hitting the back button before I read a thing. No matter the price. Lol

Definitely not true. Prior to the price drops, 16GB Moto X's could be found on swappa for roughly 450 dollars. Roughly about the same price on ebay, but I was able to snag a very lucky BIN for $400 for a 16gb back in November.
If you look at the most recent sold listings on swappa, most of them are still in the $350 range, which is plenty good considering they had their huge fire sale for $350 a month ago AND the $300 sale the other day.
Phones that are usually subsidized by the carriers and that are actually POPULAR, like the HTC One or S4, usually sell for much less at this point in time. Look on swappa's listings of sold S4s, they're all low 300s. Granted the phone has been out longer, but that's nearly a 250-300 drop in value. The X's used price hasn't changed very much in comparison, given that Moto dropped the price over 150 dollars over the past couple months.
That my friend is supply and demand. There isn't an abundance of used x's like every other phone yet. I don't even think Motorola sold that many new lol. Up until a few days ago second hand was the only way to get them overseas. Now that's not the case so I still say the prices will drop, but you're still better buying and selling at full price than subsidizing with Verizon or at&t. Especially if you switch every few months.
For the op however, I reiterate... Nexus 5

How many of you will be rooting and flashing even though youre on a next plan?
What happens when youre on an AT&T Next 12 plan and you go to hand your phone in 12 months from now?
This is when you restore the device back to factory and they are non-the-wiser about any of it.
.....They really do not go out of their way to discover if you rooted or not (at least around here they don't).

You guys really need to look into second hand devices. I bought my Verizon G4 (unlocked and can be used on AT&T) off Swappa for $360. It's like new and came with the original box, accessories, and a case.
If you don't have the cash up front, set up a credit card with your PayPal account and make the same monthly payments that you would be paying to the phone carrier. Only difference is now you're paying about half of the price you would be originally and you OWN the phone. Something new comes out..... Pick it up off Swappa (or CL, celltraderonline.com, eBay, Amazon, etc) and sell your old one on a similar outlet. There's even Facebook pages devoted to buying/selling phones.
I haven't been under contract with Verizon (mainly because of my grandfathered unlimited data) for years. I own/use every new device that comes out and most of the time I make a few bucks when I sell the old one. I can't understand why people pay full price for a phone, or finance it just to trade in on another one. We pay high cell phone rates in the U.S. because carriers subsidize phones. If we're paying the high rates AND paying full price for phones, that's a win-win for them.

Yeah for the record I really regret doing their plan. I way overpaid for my device.
If I sell it and pay the phone off ill be out an extra couple hundred bucks. The best I can do now is pay it off early and own it. Either that or just keep paying the minimum payment and then hand it over after 12 months for a brand new flagship but then be back in the same exact spot as before.
The key here I learned is patience. Let the flagship come out, wait 2 months and then hit Swappa.
I think ill pay off the device early in a few months and then go crazy with flashing and the like.
If anyone is interested on how hard I was bent over:
LG H810
Equipment Price:$669.99
Down Payment:$201.00
Amount Financed:$468.99
Installment 1 of 28 06/04 $16.75

I agree with this MUCH cheaper. Even though I went through the next program to get my iPhone 6 several months ago, I just paid it off the next day onto my credit card (Got $200 cash back from it lol) SO I had $200 off ON TOP of I got AT&T to pay my phone bill for a month which was another $174. Because of paying it off early, credit card etc. After it was said and done I have about $250 in a brand new iPhone 6.
But anyway even I were to follow the next program it would rip me off by the time that 12 months came, I wouldnt get half of what I could sell it online for.

Not sure where youre getting like 30% cash back from, thats insane, also I havent heard of AT&T paying peoples phone bills for early payoffs.
Yeah the used device average sold price on Swappa has already plummeted down to $450, the more I think about my plan of action, ill try and pay off the phone in the next few months so I at least own the damn thing.
How many of you will root your AT&T while youre on a Next plan?

each time I make a large purchase I look for a credit card which gives you so much back for spending a certain amount.
AT&T has a credit card if you spend $2k in 3 months you get up to $650 credit on a phone. So pretty much a free phone.
Also the paying my bill was part of me being able to help me afford the phone. If I didn't buy the phone they wouldn't had credited me it as they couldn't give a discount on the iPhone it's self.

So are you opening and closing credit cards every time you make a large purchase? My Amex only gives me 1-3% cash back on purchases and we use it for almost everything. It seems like they have me $150 the first 3 months for spending a couple grand.
At some point, credit card companies would no longer give you the promos and it would wreck your credit opening and closing cards.

While I agree in the idea of buying second hand devices. I can't speak for other carriers but on AT&Ts Next plan the person outright owns the phone on a 0% finance plan. Yes there are trade in months and such but that's just it, trade in the phone and they recover the cost from a resale. They give you the full financing disclosure showing the 0% Apr and other such disclosures.
Edit: Back on topic. I have Next and I will be rooting tonight.
Also why would someone want to pay off something that is an at cost price of a brand new device financed with 0% with a credit card that will charge financing. Suddenly the device now costs more because of the fact the credit card is likely not 0% Apr.
The only advantage to credit card financing is the ability to trade up whenever you want like you state.

Because buying 2nd hand is typically half the price of buying new. So get a 0% card for 12 months or even one that charges 30% interest. No matter how you look at it, you'll pay less than full retail when it's paid off.

Well its true, I am not being charged any interest and I have more spending power right now because of that. I can just hand them $17 a month and use the rest of my paycheck on whatever I want.
But I also overpaid for my device by at least $200 to be able to have that luxury. So technically I paid that interest, just up front.

Full price @ 0% is still a bad deal IMHO. I sorta look at phones like cars. The MSRP price is the starting price for negotiations. It's the price that no one pays that gives salesmen the ability to say "but this is how much it's really worth, you're getting a great deal".
Overseas carriers don't subsidize plans so their monthly rates are much lower than ours. I can justify full price for those guys, but not in the U.S.

Maybe I'm just a village idiot here, but what is a cheaper price? Lol My Next plan financed this at $650ish on June 5th release day.(i don't have the exact about in front of me) That was the purchase it now price that day. I saw it priced higher on Amazon that day. I don't count eBay or swappa and such.

Its the same with when I bought my car, I had a ton in savings and was only going to finance a very very small part.
So he was pushing low payments on me, saying we can get you this % and this low of a payment, and i straight up told him he could make my payments $600 a month and i wouldnt care because I intended on paying it off very quickly, all I cared about was bottom dollar.
If only I bought my phones with the same mindset!

Sort of same here, A lot just look at the monthly payments, when sometimes they could prob be paying high interest on them.
I was sort of the opposite with my car purchases but I first worked on getting the actual price down, then work out that monthly payment, etc.
The only reason I would use next is if I got a deal OR I must really want a device without waiting for it (Then regret it later) lol.
Now I feel really dumb. I fell for the pre-order rush to get a $200 discount which I used for Samsung extra's I didn't really need or want. This is less than a month after official release. I would have preferred to just save the extra $200. I wonder if the same thing will happen with the S7+ which I have on pre-order.

us early adopters already picked up the unit like we always do. by hook or crook us early adopters will eat ramen noodles or whatever it takes to be among the first to get these toys.
but now , with the world still reeling from a global pandemic, lots of regular common folk don't have disposable income for a $1000+ dollar phone, hence samsung reducing the price. its a smart move and remember, samsung are in business to turn a profit, not make us early adopters feel good about our purchase.
$250 off at Best Buy and it looks like they're still honoring trade-ins.

I completely agree with you. Early adopters know what pitfalls they are in for. Whether early software bugs or full retail price at launch, there is a cost associated with being first to the table. I feel no remorse about jumping in head first, do so every year. Sammy is out to make a profit and they got my sold without saying much.

Lmao you're like me, Samsung has me opening my wallet every year and they don't even have to do much. I always trade in so it never really hurts me because I put 50 dollars a month away towards the next phone and just put 50 dollars into the savings account on the 1st just this month when I pay most of my bills. There's some of us who just have to be first in line and we could care less about the price usually but I could see how it would bother some people though because when I was ordering at the time I wanted to see what the price was without the trade in and the phone itself was 1,299 without the military discount and after taxes it was almost 1,500 dollars so I'm guessing not many people have that much to dump right now. All in all it was worth it to me I love this thing but there's too many people nit picking about stupid crap such as the battery but with the speed this thing charges at its like no big deal.

I'm not entirely mad myself. It happens with tech, even video games. discounts happen due to poor first month or first week sales. I still made out with the sudo BOGO($1000 off 2nd phone) deal with Verizon since I switch both my lines. Then again we'll see in the next few weeks how much the gap closes in on me.
If you received yours late and are still in the 14 day window you can price match. I received mine last week and with the new 200$ off pricing I was able to price match to Best buy for an additional refund. I believe the item has to ship, but you simply go to chat and let them know that you would like to price match to best buy's 200$ off price. They will ask for a link directly to your exact model of N20U and once you provide that they approved my price match. 2 Hours later I received a notification of refund. I ended up getting an even better deal by getting it late. All discounts, free accessories, cancel credit and price match!
Samsung will price match Best buy. I got $200 credited back which after education discount, trade in, and cash back, I am around $700 out the door for 512 GB note 20 ultra

Combine this with the great price they gave me for my wife's pixel 3a plus the first responders discount and I feel pretty good
Anyone have any luck price matching past 14 days? I'll try tomorrow and see if Samsung will, doubtful, but doesn't hurt to try right?

You shouldn't feel any type of way about it. It's the enthusiast tax. If you want it on release date with the earbuds to boot it's OK to pay a $200 premium. Worst case just sell your buds live and recoup most of your money if it makes you feel better :cyclops:
