Now I feel really dumb. I fell for the pre-order rush to get a $200 discount which I used for Samsung extra's I didn't really need or want. This is less than a month after official release. I would have preferred to just save the extra $200. I wonder if the same thing will happen with the S7+ which I have on pre-order.

us early adopters already picked up the unit like we always do. by hook or crook us early adopters will eat ramen noodles or whatever it takes to be among the first to get these toys.
but now , with the world still reeling from a global pandemic, lots of regular common folk don't have disposable income for a $1000+ dollar phone, hence samsung reducing the price. its a smart move and remember, samsung are in business to turn a profit, not make us early adopters feel good about our purchase.
$250 off at Best Buy and it looks like they're still honoring trade-ins.

I completely agree with you. Early adopters know what pitfalls they are in for. Whether early software bugs or full retail price at launch, there is a cost associated with being first to the table. I feel no remorse about jumping in head first, do so every year. Sammy is out to make a profit and they got my sold without saying much.

Lmao you're like me, Samsung has me opening my wallet every year and they don't even have to do much. I always trade in so it never really hurts me because I put 50 dollars a month away towards the next phone and just put 50 dollars into the savings account on the 1st just this month when I pay most of my bills. There's some of us who just have to be first in line and we could care less about the price usually but I could see how it would bother some people though because when I was ordering at the time I wanted to see what the price was without the trade in and the phone itself was 1,299 without the military discount and after taxes it was almost 1,500 dollars so I'm guessing not many people have that much to dump right now. All in all it was worth it to me I love this thing but there's too many people nit picking about stupid crap such as the battery but with the speed this thing charges at its like no big deal.

I'm not entirely mad myself. It happens with tech, even video games. discounts happen due to poor first month or first week sales. I still made out with the sudo BOGO($1000 off 2nd phone) deal with Verizon since I switch both my lines. Then again we'll see in the next few weeks how much the gap closes in on me.
If you received yours late and are still in the 14 day window you can price match. I received mine last week and with the new 200$ off pricing I was able to price match to Best buy for an additional refund. I believe the item has to ship, but you simply go to chat and let them know that you would like to price match to best buy's 200$ off price. They will ask for a link directly to your exact model of N20U and once you provide that they approved my price match. 2 Hours later I received a notification of refund. I ended up getting an even better deal by getting it late. All discounts, free accessories, cancel credit and price match!
Samsung will price match Best buy. I got $200 credited back which after education discount, trade in, and cash back, I am around $700 out the door for 512 GB note 20 ultra

Combine this with the great price they gave me for my wife's pixel 3a plus the first responders discount and I feel pretty good
Anyone have any luck price matching past 14 days? I'll try tomorrow and see if Samsung will, doubtful, but doesn't hurt to try right?

You shouldn't feel any type of way about it. It's the enthusiast tax. If you want it on release date with the earbuds to boot it's OK to pay a $200 premium. Worst case just sell your buds live and recoup most of your money if it makes you feel better :cyclops:

I see $450 being thrown about but come on, that's too good to be true. I called Best Buy and was quoted $700.

actually retail$450.$150 instant discount,u pay $300 up front then u get back $100 mail in rebate that leaves to $199 with new activation.
Wouldn't be surprised if there's a lot of misinformation floating out there, but I called a Sprint Store directly and they informed me the retail price is $449. He had to put me on hold to call corporate. $450 is ridiculous for something like this, and I still don't quite believe it.
What sucks even more is my 30 day window closes on June 2nd!! But if I can sell a brand new hero for $200 I won't mind fronting the other $250.
When the EVO was announced at CTIA I immediately signed up for news updates at the Sprint EVO site. Yesterday I received a promotional email FROM SPRINT that says "...$449.99 - $150.00 (two-year activation) - $100.00 (mail-in rebate) = $199.99 (final price).". I literally just now copy and pasted that quote from the email!
So, will Best Buy offer it at the same price or not? I'm ashamed to say, when I was there pre-ordering it this afternoon, I was assured that pre-orders were for unsubsidized phones as well as new service (or upgrades) but I forgot to ask what the non-discount price was because I assumed it was the same. Now I'm wondering...
I just pre-ordered my Evo at BestBuy today and didn't even think to ask what retail was. I just assumed it was the $450 like Sprint said.
Sure hope I'm right. I thought it was too good to be true as well but coming out of Sprint's mouth it was hard not to pay full price.
I preordered at bestbuy too.
occasionally they mess up and give me the lower out of contract price but either way...I'm buying this phone!
Return it

I have heard that what people are doing in a situation like yours, is that they are just going to return it, get another phone (like the moment or something) and then return it again for the EVO. Sure you'll have to pay restocking fees, but it will cost less then selling your Hero.
449 is probably the starting price based on signing a 2 year contract. It will likely be higher if you are going with a non-contract outright purchase. Our prices at The Shack work that way at least.
With Sprint from the past, whatever the price is before they apply the discount for new service, new line, or upgrade is usually what the price of the phone is. It is a little hard to believe this amazing phone is $450 but I've noticed one thing android phones tend to be cheaper than their WM counterparts, not always but usually. With that said I'm sure Sprints plan is to keep as many customers as possible as well as get more with this phone and they can always make it back with the cost of the plan. I also went to pre-order mines from best buy today but before I commit to it I wanted to make sure what the unsubsidized price would be but unfortunately the guy helping didn't know. He just said it would probably be about 600-700. The email as stated though says $450 so before I committed I wanted to find out what the real price will be before I commit to a higher price than what Sprint is actually selling for since I just used my upgrade in January for the Hero so I have to wait until next January. I have had the experience depending on who you deal with that even if you aren't eligble for an upgrade they would still sell you the phone at the upgrade price. Also a post above stated that they were going to get the 100 rebate still, is that even possible without it being a new activation or upgrade or were they just helping you out?
Chatted with Sprint rep today via website and confirmed...
...that the off-contract price is $449. If this turns out to be true...that's FU*KING GREAT!!! I really hope this phone ends up being the real deal. This could be an all-out effort from Sprint to extend what potentially is the hottest phone of 2010 to anyone who's interested at great price whether new customer or otherwise. Gain new customers and stop the bleeding of existing ones...makes sense.
there also seems to be a very gradual shift away from outrageous off-contract prices (FTC pressure maybe?)... nokia smartphones have been reasonably priced off contract (gsm models anyway) for some time now, and while 450 is a bit low it doesn't seem impossible.
Yeah, I'm going back to BestBuy today to cancel my preorder. Their are just too many rumors of BB charging $600+. Hopefully I will have luck on my side on June 4 when I go to the Sprint store to buy one.

$450 from Sprint directly. Periord. End of story. Other retailers such as Best Buy and RadioShack have the ability to raise the price if they want, and it has been confirmed that Best Buy will be gouging it to $600. It has been reported that RadioShack will only charge the standard $450.
Can anyone confirm the 450 in writing from a sprint store after you paid for a pre-order?
I will go to 20 sprint stores in my area if one will do that for me.

Yeah, I've printed a copy of that announcement from a link someone posted to be safe but what I'm most concerned with is trying to get a pre-order confirmed at that price. I don't want to have to wake up crazy early and then hope that they don't try to screw me that morning of by telling me they are only selling to upgrade customers since those are the people they make money off of. That could very well happen, that's exactly why I want to pre-order.
Appears that corp stores are NOT taking pre-orders. If anyone finds out different please post about your story.
Thanks
Will bb price match?
Assuming that we stick with the fad here - the Epic 4g will be $199 on first line contract pricing. Do you all think its safe to assume the $599.99 price tag for a full retail price?
I'm curious because I will most likely make this my next phone the day it is rooted and don't have an upgrade to use on it.
Before I decide, I wan't to see Quadrant/linpac/benchmark Pi scores before I buy - I have every suspicion that it will beat/match everything else on the market with the GPU it has in it. SuperAMOLED will be nice as well.
why pay retail? Just get someone you know who worships an iphone to buy one on contract. Have them end the contract the next day (pay the $200 ETF) and give them the $400 to cover their cost. Save yourself $200. Never understood why these phones have inflated prices on ebay and stuff. When i was low on cash last year, i did this repeatedly and got hundreds a week on craigslist. There are so many ways to legally make money in this world for those that want it. If you don't, somebody else will. I could write a book with the crap I've learned through the years.

Don't you have to pay the deposit and I'm pretty sure you have to pay the first months bill even if you cancel out.. that's about $125 for the deposit and likely about $120 or so for the first month.
no deposit on a contract phone. If you cancel the next day, at worst, you'll pay pro-rated amount of contract (69+10)/30 or about $2.60.

Not true, I almost went for the HTC Hero back in November and I paid the $125 deposit. It depends on your credit, I have zero.
Yet somehow I still have a 680 dollar bill at Verizon for 2 BB Storm 2's I bought and returned within my 30 days...I am taking them to court over it. Either way.

Hope you get lots of money from them for their stupidity. You should get more then just the refunded $680, they should pay all the legal fees and plus extra for wasting your time.
Retail for all (high end) Sprint PDAs should be $450 for the time being. EVO, Blackberry Bold, the Epic.
I had to upgrade to my Evo before the April 1 deadline because of the Premier Program changes and I was able to jump in the best buy buyback program for free. And since I don't think I am the only one around here I was wondering.
When I look at what the retail price for phones on bb.com compared to sprint's retail prices, bestbuy is almost $100-200 more. (e.g. sprint Evo $450/ BB Evo $600) Has anyone tried to get them to pricematch sprint when buying a phone at retail price? If you go to bestbuy's pricematch policy the first FAQ is
"What is considered a local retail competitor? "
and the answer is ....
"A retail store located in the same market area as your local Best Buy store."
The reason I ask is this. On the same web page there is a link for a New York Price Match Class Action lawsuit about a similar situation where an individual bought a camera from Best Buy then found the same camera at a "local" camera retail shop for less, and BB wouldn't price match it. And this individual won. (Reference the Decision and Order Document. The conclusion is on the bottom of page 31)
Note : There is more to the story, but this is what started the wheel turning in the lawsuit. I recommend reading that specific document thoroughly so you can see how scandalous retail can be.
I can understand not matching contract prices, although in the past they have for me. But in this case we are talking "retail" price. I have up til August to get 50% for my Evo ($300) and I was thinking for future sake how i would attack the upgrade. I could either do an ETF (about $180) and lose my mobile #, but pay contract price ,or I could just cash in the Evo for the program and buy phone at retail.
Has anyone had any experience with this situation with BB?

I had to purchase my Evo at full retail price and i looked into this too. I was inclined to purchase it at Best Buy because they actually had it in stock where as the sprint stores near me put me on a waiting list (this was during the 2 week wait list stuff)
I hoped to price match because i knew people there from working there 3 years beforehand
They wouldn't price match for me either
I ended up getting my Evo at Radioshack after walking in randomly to see if they had them in stock. It was like 25 bucks more, but after being on a wait list for over a month i decided 25 bucks more than Sprints retail price was worth it
A little off topic, but on the price match subject at Best Buy. I just bought a new high end refrigerator from best buy, and before she rang it up she went online and checked all the major appliance sellers for the product and Lowes had it for $159 cheaper so they matched that price with out even asking. Of course, I had already shopped around and new of the lower price and was planning on making them price match. I prefer shopping at best buy for big purchases to maximize my reward points.

$300 for an EVO which is nearly 2 generations old hardware is a VERY good amount to receive for it.
They only fetch $200-250 average on craigslist, and that's begging the buyer to pay more.
I have purchased a phone from best buy at retail price and they matched the price to sprint for me. I don't know why they would not. That seems kind of stupid.

A lot of times it depends on the sales person. Same thing when you walk into a Sprint store for an upgrade, exchanges, or just service.

Obviously you didn't read the Class Action I referenced. In the reading the customer was told he could not price match because the identical camera was sold at a local retailer that specifically sold photography equipment, not an electronics chain store like Ultimate Electronics or Circuit City for example. Also they were practicing within the Best Buy chain that they would not price match it it was not cost effective, like a percentage of profit over cost.
Now I know from being a part time manager in the past at an Autozone store that we were not allowed to price match oil/antifreeze products against Wal-Mart, Target, etc., specifically for the reason they were big box stores. But we "could" pricematch other auto part retailers (Checkers, Napa, etc.) This is why I asked the question, because I was wondering if Best Buy has ever said that when buying a phone retail. Because I could see something said along the lines of, "Well they have lower retail because they receive your monthly payment."
In a "for profit" business, I don't think it would be stupid on their end not to price match as they give back considerably higher buy back on phones over Sprint. Also Best Buy may not buy as many phones as Sprint so their bottom line could be slightly higher.
The best buy buy back program is a scam. I'm glad you got it for free; its like saying hey you pay me $250 upfront to purchase this $1000 laptop, and when you trade it back you only get 500. This is stupid and Best buy wins. I used to shop at best buy all the time until realizing that their markup on everything is like 30% higher than normal retail value. I purchased my heroc on launch day at best buy and paid 100 bucks for it with upgrade. I believe at the time sprint had it for 199 with upgrade. I think their full retail price is much higher on phones because they just cancel out the rebates. I purchased my evo at radio shack for 99.88 but their full retail price was also much higher than sprint's as well. Hmmm

Yeah, there is no way I would have purchased it.
However, the situation was at the time was that I had an upgrade that I was going to lose in April whether I used it or not. So now with the EVO3D and the Nexus S coming out, I would like to take advantage of it if necessary.
Not sure if many people know about this or not but Bestbuy has a trade in program you can use for your older phone to upgrade to new phones such as the Nexus S or Evo 3D. No I'm not talking about the Buy Back Program because that you have to pay for. I looked at the price that they would give me for my Shift and turns out I can get $145.00 for it so yeah My upgrade is on June 1st So I think I might get the Nexus S which will only cost me about $65 bucks. Just wanted to share my findings with all of you. Pretty sweet deal considering The Nexus S is pure Android or I might wait for the Evo 3D because I'm sure they will be announcing it here soon.

Yep, wrong.
Trade-in's @ BB are free, but be prepared to take a pretty lowball offer if the phone is older than 6mo and not in mint condition. Also, all "cash" is given in Best Buy store credit or $ off your new phone through them.
Additionally, anyone who purchased a new phone prior to the last week in Feb is grandfathered into their Buyback program, no charge.
Just put your phone on craigs.bb offered me 20 for my hero trade in towards the shift.helll no! I sold a broken one for 35 lol

you're right i was thinking of the buyback program - http://goo.gl/wO0yz
I was also under the impression, you had to purchase your phone from BB to get them to offer any trade in value.
the no charge thing is not true. i purchased this phone in january and they were charging for it then. they did run a promotion for a week or two but when it was offered to me, it was $$ and not free.
do you have any links that say it will be free if purchased before end of Feb? That would be great.

http://www.bestbuy.com/site/null/null/pcmcat232000050000.c?id=pcmcat232000050000&h=488
The important takeaways are:
1) Going forward, 50% off buying into the BB plan if you combine w/ the Geek Squad Black Tie protection plan (it's $10/month, and blows Sprint's insurance away - I've used this for the past 3 years and love it. So, it's an extra $20 upfront to get into the BB program.)
2) For mobile phones only, they'll give you a % of the RETAIL, not purchase cost. So, for example, you bought the Shift in Jan/Feb w/ your upgrade for $149, and you want to return it in July for the 3D. Provided your phone is in good shape, you'll get around $250 or so off the new phone regardless of upgrade. And if you're eligible for upgrade and in the BB program, you'll get your new phone for free, plus an extra $40 or so in store credits to purchase a case or larger SD card, etc..
From their website:
"How does the Buy Back Program work for mobile phones?
For mobile phones, the Buy Back provides exceptional value when you want to get the latest and greatest. The Buy Back Program for post paid mobile phones is based on the full retail price of the phone, not the discounted price of the phone. Your phone is typically discounted in price when you renew or sign up for a new contract. If the retail (non-contract) price is $600, your buy back value would be based on that amount, even if you purchased the phone for a lower price if the phone price was subsidized by the carrier.
For example: you pay $199 for a mobile phone which normally retails for $600 and also purchase the Buy Back Program. If you decide to redeem your buy back within 6-12 months of purchase, you will receive a Best Buy Gift Card in the amount of $240 (40% of the original retail price) to put toward your next purchase. "
again - it was free from superbowl week to feb 26th.
it wasn't free before that date completely.
From pcmag link:
What's Best Buy's Buy Back? In January, the retailer launched a program by which customers could pay $69.99 at the time of purchase to enter in to the program, for laptops, netbooks or tablets.
The program allows you to:
* Redeem your Buy Back within 6 months from purchase effective date, and get up to 50 percent of your purchase price
* Redeem your Buy Back after 6 months to 12 months from purchase effective date, and get up to 40 percent
* Redeem your Buy Back after 12 months to 18 months from purchase effective date and get up to 30 percent
* Redeem your Buy Back after 18 months to 24 from purchase effective date and get up to 20 percent
* For TVs only, redeem your Buy Back within 48 months from purchase effective date and get up to 10 percent
Phones command a special deal: the program is based on the retail price of the phone. If a subsidized price of a phone is $199 with contract, but the phone costs $600 unsubsidized, then the Buy Back value is based on the value of the phone. It's unclear what Best Buy will charge at the register, however.
For now, though, that doesn't matter - the Best Buy Buy Back program is free for both tablets and phones until Feb. 26. TVs are not affected.

Eh...
Me thinks if you still have your receipt, you've got a fairly good shot of getting BB to honor it when/if you decide to get your next phone from them. I'd imagine they would like to keep a customer in this case. Worth a shot!

Right on, lol.....
Hell, if the Hero's are still selling for $100 on CL, then these phones can definitely command a price of $250 eaaaaaaaaaaasy.

And here's a cool thing. I bought my 6045i from Amazon.com on Dec 5 for ~$250. I saw this price drop, chatted with a CSR and he instantly with no hassle gave me a $50 credit back to my credit card.
Wow. Decent price drop. Wonder if it'll stay that price or if it's a limited time holiday special. Those contemplating on buying this phone need to act now.

..and if you want to double dip most credit cards nowadays have "price protection" and if you show them the ad plus your original receipt they have an insurance policy that will also cut you a check...that's how I got MY $50 back when the price dropped to $200 for one day only back in mid june or so...I purchased mine in may. Amazon typically will only do price adjustments within 10 days of purchase.
Awesome deal. I paid $179 during a promotion around launch time but after rooting and flashing cm12 it is easily worth more than $200.
Why is everyone so happy? 95% of the people that want this phone already have it. When they drop the price it just lowers the resale value.

The idol 3 was never gonna have very good resale value even if price stayed at $249 until idol 4 is released. I plan on keeping mine as a backup since the display and speakers are great and it runs a lot better on cm 12.1 or vanir. Should also get some MM ROMs in the near future.

The resale price would have been fine if they would stop discounting it into foodstamp range. The $150 sale on Cricket practically makes it worthless and now the unlocked version is back to pre order. $250 is a solid ask for the hardware, they are just insulting us by cheapening our product they refuse to update.

Do you think that the amount of people attempting to re-sell the phone outweigh the amount of people looking to buy a brand new phone for a very low price? Your argument makes no sense for anyone involved outside of yourself...

Look in the menu bar bud, you see that link to Swappa? Once we are done modding our phones we get bored and sell it. If you hold on to a phone for three years you won't be buying a $200 phone in the first place.
Only 115 on Swappa right now, if anyone wants one this one is a total steal! ( no it's not mine)

Its people like you that ruin phone market and make the companies release the same phone with little upgrades worthy of the price jump instead of providing updates......

And why wouldnt i not buy a 200 dollar phone and keep it for three years? So your saying because i pay 200 dollar for a phone theres no point in keeping it for three years? Lmao wow ok i see now why samsung and apple dont have to work hard to get people like you in the stores to upgrade in couple months!!!
Actually what i'm saying is they are costing me money. If someone snatched $60 out of your pocket you wouldn't be so happy.
