Sprint No Root Tether? - X Style (Pure) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Any solution for sprint to tether without root?
I am on MM now and need to tether, but I am willing to root once a non experimental root exists.
Until then i need a no root way, foxfi fails so that's a no go.

Without root, you can use Clockworkmod Tether to tether via USB. I don't know of a way to wifi-tether without root and without the entitlement.
Good Luck

Temp root gives you all the benefits of rooting until you power off the system (I believe.) If you are not sure if you want to root, temp rooting is a good way to check out what it's like to be rooted.
Permanent rooting is exactly what it says. It roots the Fire and will stay that way until you decide to unroot it, or if Amazon pushes another update that breaks root.

WiFi for Root users on ICS

After upgrading to ICS on my SGH-T859 I am no longer able to use the WiFi for Root users app anymore in order to connect my laptop to get internet access. Can someone advise a fix for this.
Thanks

You need to re-install the root application (Superuser or SuperSU). Updating your tablet to ICS has removed root rights from the su binary. Re-installing will fix that.

Are you still rooted or are your root apps with prior permissions still using their old grant? Try a new root app see if your able to grant a new permission.

Yes. Im sure you can use the kk version of ss and flash roms. Your issue is this is your only shot at having root. Meaning if you soft brick in some manner and you are forced to use odin to recover you will lose root with no way to retain it or regain it. If you dont need root to take advantage of tethering on a unlimited plan then maybe its not a issue for you. But if u need root to be happy with your device I would stay stock and just disable otas til your ready to try survival mode again if ever needed.
Edit. At least until a new root exploit is found if ever anyways.
still rooted

Root for Adblock Plus and then Unroot

Would it be possible to root my phone and just use Adblock to modify my hosts file and then unroot it? I'll obviously have to keep my bootloader unlocked. I'm just wondering if I'll have any issues with Android Pay and the monthly security updates. Can I take updates with a modified hosts file?
Just root it and leave it rooted. My phone is rooted and Android pay works fine. You just have to check unroot in super su to add the credit/debit card . check to reroot and your good to go
Hmm will you be able to take OTA updates without sideloading though?

Probably not, but you have a custom recovery anyways, don't you?
What I did was add credit card to Android Pay, root, apply AdBlock with AdAway, disable root in SuperSU and then left it off, since I don't need root very often. I left SuperSu installed, just turned it off in its settings, so it would be easy to gain root again.
I can confirm that Android Pay works with root simply disabled. I made a purchase today with it. I will try with root tomorrow.

AdAway just applies a modified hosts file. It then does nothing except update that file, so you can unroot and keep adblocking active. Adfree also does this, and is my preferred app, however on my 6p it blocks some YouTube ads and then the actual video won't play either, which is a big problem, obviously.
*AdFree website may be down currently
AdBlock works without root you have to go into wifi settings manually set to localhost and proxy to 2020. It did not take at first but after several restarts over a day it is finally working. I am on Project Fi so I do dont know if the Network you are on makes a difference but I am not seeing adds now.
why not use systemless root from Chainfire?
You can have root and do updates by flashing system and radio if needed

Root without PC?

Is this possible in any way? Will it be possible soon? Thanks.
The only way to root without a PC that I know of is an app like King Root. But you don't want King Root. It only works on certain phones and probably not this one because dual partitions make it much more difficult even if you have a computer. But King Root is pretty much malware. It loads adware onto your phone, sends unrestricted data to servers in China and refuses to give root access to any app that King Root considers a threat to any action that King Root wants to perform on your phone. The fact that anyone actually uses the app is unbelievable to me. There may be an auto root app that is less malicious but probably nothing that would work on this phone.

You need an unlocked bootloader.
You need a computer to unlock the bootloader.
You need a computer to flash the images.
There is no way to OEM unlock without a computer.

King Root actually works on some phones where the bootloader can't be unlocked. That was the only reason I tried that garbage app but any benefits from rooting aren't worth the problems caused by the app. If the bootloader is locked but you are rooted you can run apps that require root access like Titanium Backup (as long as King Root doesn't block root access like it does with Adaway) but you can't flash a custom kernel or custom ROM.
