so every region got the MM update for the moto except Europe
I don't understand the logic here? why they are that late if they have it ready and tested?
I am talking about carrier free of course.
Well, someone has to be last
In this case we European. But Motorola always rolls out updates in Europe at last..
Maybe because its an US company and they think most of us in Europe swinging from tree to tree and communicating via smoke signals.
For some reason carriers still have to test firmwares. I'm am waiting as well with an euro device.

This sucks bug time. I have a uk version but it says eu , so if every carrier in Europe will test this we are screwed. I do not live in Europe actually and I do not get it why the carriers need to test ****
This is the 3rd European Moto X thread I've seen on here, with everyone asking the same question, I should know, I started my own thread asking this exact thing, is it possible to merge all of these into 1 thread?

I have an idea about the long delay for the whole Europe. Last year for lollipop on moto x 2014*we had*several software and updates came out at different times. For example retde for germany, retgb*for great britain, retes retfr etc. Reteu was residual for other countries. This year for the style there is only one software for all*Europe, reteu. Probably the approval process of all countries requires a longer time than the individual country. IMHO

i bought from clove uk, it says 23.21.18.clark_reteu.reteu.en.EU.retgb which i have no idea what does that means because i just moved to android from wp
and like said i do not live in the middle east and it works fine as long as those bands are the same.

Yes, that what is annoying.
Tell me about it, believe me when it's released, I'll let everyone know, I've got multiple android forums on the go, but in all honesty, Google+ and XDA will be the best place to look
In Europe the only M upgrade seems to be for moto x 2014 in UK. Retgb software. So I believe that is correct what I said. The approval process for style requires longer time because we have only one software for all countries, reteu.

Hi,
I'm thinking about getting a Galaxy Note. Unfortunately I'm in the U.S. So I'll have to get it from overseas. Even if I get it from a US seller, the phone is probably imported anyway. I'm planning to get it from Handtec. They have the EU version I believe.
Now if Samsung relases any OTA, does anyone know if I'll be able to get it here in the U.S.
Thanks.
As I understand, the Note doesn't need OTA's per se, as they're also downloadable directly into the phone through your WiFi using a piece of software called Kies, that is instaleld both in your phone and in your desktop.
I don't own one yet tough, so I'm just passing along forum information.
Funny you are asking that on XDA. Who cares? You can always come here and get it. Be much more concerned about the lack of warranty. The only thing holding me back from getting the Note

Correct me if I'm wrong but the Note comes with an international warranty... Well my Note did. I'm in the UK and bought it as an import from Germany. Confirmed the international warranty with the supplier too and it's definitely in force. Got a warranty book in the box to prove it.

the availability of OTA is dependent upon the region the phone originated from, not which country youre currently in.
ie. if you have the european note, it will only update when a european update is available, not when the US update is available. doesnt matter if youre in US or australia like me, cant update until they release a european update.

It doesn't matter where the warranty comes from, but if any Note user decides to:
a) root their device
b) install any custom rom/kernel
the warranty will be gone in most cases. The warranty will cover hardware or software malfunction but if you install not-stock stuff on your phone, then you can't complain if your service provider or repairshop won't do it for free.

Yes, but I believe his question was more about if an american carrier would broadcast a european OTA over their networks. They don't, but Kies take care of that.

I wasn't expecting the update to be broadcast from the carrier actually. I'm expecting Samsung to broadcast it directly. It sounds like I should be able to get the update, either through OTA or through Kies. It'd be nice to be able to update without requiring a desktop though.

carriers only broadcast updates to carrier locked phones iirc.
if you purchase an unlocked phone, it doesnt matter what carrier youre on. when you go to check for updates, it should be connecting to samsung's servers, not your carrier's.

My phone was purchased from the UK with CID__001 but I live in Qatar & still have not received the update.
I remember the same situation with the One X where UK phones were always delayed compared to other European phones (were talking about SIM free phones).

just in case you are still wondering even though 10 others from the UK posted already, to put your mind at rest I can also confirm no update in UK Too.
Hope that Helps you come to a conclusion if you was sceptical of others answers,
Why did my phone come with this software version? :/
I received the update on my Taiwan version
Alright... before the huge amounts of responses and memes responses, let's make something clear:
This is the US version purchased from amazon.com during a trip to the US.
I have a mobilicity (Canada) SIM in my phone
Still no update
The only thing I imagine is blocking my update is my IP address/GPS location or my carrier sim card.
- Does anybody know how to bypass this check? or fool the phone to think i am in the US? I am not really into rooting this phone or losing the warranty on it.
- Anyone with a US version in Canada who received the OTA? what carrier are you using?
Thanks in advance.

Same boat here: Moto G XT1064 (USA GSM, Unlocked, Carrier-independent) bought from Amazon in early November, still no Lollipop update for me, also checked OT and via Motorola Device Manager. Apparently Moto has pulled the update to fix some bugs, but they've done a TERRIBLE job of messaging this. They have an "official blog" which trumpets the launch of Lollipop but no mention anywhere, on any of their support pages or their blog, that this update has been shelved to fix some bugs. I'm fine with that, but I need to *know* that's what's happening rather than just sitting around pushing update and wondering why my phone still hasn't gotten the update yet.
Moto needs to better message this stuff so that we don't have to hunt through forums to find answers to our questions. I even contacted Motorola support a few days ago and they didn't mention a word of this, so it almost seems like the left hand doesn't know what the right is doing. Either way, this has been a really disappointing rollout

interesting. I too believe that is OK if they had to pull it... but had i known they had done this I wouldn't have checked every day like a maniac hoping to get the OTA.
what you mean OT and via Motorola Device Manager. I tried using the MDM but it never detected my device. When i plug it in, windows 8.1 detects it as XT1064 and i am able to access the memory card, etc. But MDM did not see the device. I read somewhere that this happens if its not supported.
how did you get MDM to work with your device?
What you mean by OT? did you mean OT"A"?
Hi. I'm from London in the UK and I'm a massive Moto fan. I'm not quite sure when the moto z force will release here so I was wondering if I wired the money could someone but it for me and ship it over. Obviously il be covering all costs. Thanks
I'm willing to do that for you. You may want to consider waiting to see if the force version comes out internationally first so you can get one with a warranty. I won't be getting this device until September because the Verizon versions are sure to be locked down and unrootable. Something else to consider.

Also considering buying it when it's released. Verizon doesn't lock their phones, just google for "device-unlocking-policy verizon" Don't know about the rootable status though.

Everything I've read so far indicates that Moto Z Force is a Verizon exclusive in the US, there is no end date for this exclusivity, unlike Moto Z which will be available in September.
I'm just hoping that Mozo Z Force is not "world wide exclusive to Verizon" so that I can purchase it, but you won't be able to purchase it unlocked in the US.

Verizon phones are not network locked. You can use them on any carrier. Whether or not LTE will work depends on your specific carriers bands.

Thanks. What would be the differences in the America release and uk release. Maybe just the Verizon logo I'm guessing. Do you know how much it costs? Then I can calculate how much it will be in pounds.
The difference between the two would be the Verizon logos, the bands may be different and LTE may not function right (or it could function perfectly), and the Verizon one won't be able to have an unlockable bootloader which means no root.
Retail price is $720.00 and only comes in 32gb version. Also if you preorder they give you the JBL mod for free right now. The phone also ships with one back cover as well as far as I know.
Hmm I see. Sounds like a gamble with the LTE and bands not working. Don't know what to do really want this phone.

I'll wait for international release in 2 months, you probably do not want a Verizon phone unless you really have no other choice and cannot wait.
Even though Lenovo announced that it's "Worldwide Verizon exclusive", but I'm hoping it's just miscommunication. There are rumors that Moto Z and Moto Z Force will be released in China in September. As long as it's not "Worldwide Verizon exclusive", chances are Moto Z Force will be released in many more countries.
Hey seh6183. May have to take you up on the offer of shipping over the Z Force. There will be no unlocked version in the US, it's forever exclusive to Verizon. Only Z and Z Play have unlocked version. Our only hope is Moto changes its mind and releases unlocked international version in other countries, but you'll never see an unlocked Z Force in the US.

You have to look at the bands of the phone and try to figure out if they are compatible with your carrier. I know for sure it will work with your carrier, I just don't know how well the LTE will work. I am still willing to ship you a device if you'd like. I can buy it new or used and we can do paypal with or without the fees. However you want. I have been in your situation before and really wanted the Moto Razr HD and the only variant I could get was from Canada and no one would help me. I know how you feel lol.
Thanks for understanding.. you know how I'm feeling then. I will find out about the bands and whether it would actually work here. Are u aware of the price for new unlocked moto z? And why would they not release unlocked z force for u guys tbh would prefer the force because of the 21mp camera rather than the 13mp. Wonder if it's a massive difference anyway

In US, most people get their phones from a carrier/telco. From what I understand (I'm not from US), a phone will not sell well if it's not an iPhone or a Galaxy if it's not available from a carrier. Phone manufacturers will need to partner with at least one carrier to sell the phones, and sometimes the carrier demands an exclusive as a condition of selling the phone.
Motorola has a long history with Verizon, so I guess they want to maintain the relationship and agreed to only sell Z Force through Verizon.
What I don't understand is why would they make it a "worldwide Verizon exclusive", it makes no sense at all. Verizon doesn't compete with other carriers in every other countries, so not selling Z Force in other countries is not benefiting Verizon. The only reason I can think of is to force anyone in US to purchase from Verizon if they really want a Z Force because there is no possibility of purchasing from other countries. So if you are a current AT&T customer and you really want a Z Force, you must purchase from Verizon and cannot purchase from UK. The number of people in this group will be so low that it's crazy to use this a a reason to not sell Z Force in other countries.
Seems a ridiculous thing to do. I think Motorola told me that they are not releasing just to force (mind the pun) customers into buying the Z. Hmmmm what would u guys do. I really wanna snap this up rather than waiting any longer. Will give it a thought over the weekend. Atleast I know there are helpful guys on here who are willing to give feedback and offer to ship. Thanks :highfive:

Doesn't make sense at all, why would they prefer to sell Z over Z Force? I still think it's 100% to do their Verizon partnership, but if it's not, then it could be manufacturing/stock control issue. They were selling X Force in some countries last year, but this year not even Lenovo's home country (China) gets Z Force.

If you can wait, wait. If you really cannot wait, then IMO the downside of getting a Z Force Droid are:
1. No way to unlock the boot loader, so no way to root (unless a vulnerability is found, but that will probably be patched if you upgrade to any newer Android release, and you'll lose root)
2. Limited LTE bands
3. No support & warranty in UK
4. Updates are provided by Verizon, which doesn't have good track record
5. Bloatware - review says 17 of them. Some are removable, many are not
If you don't care about anything above, go ahead and get a Z Force Droid. Otherwise, think about Z or Z Play, depending on what features you value more.
Those first four reasons are pretty significant, the fifth one not so much as was stated it can either be uninstalled or disabled.
I trusted Samsung when they said that the updates for the unlocked US models will be handled a lot better. The carrier versions started receiving May 2017 security updates. It may be little bit to early to declare that Samsung is sticking to their old habits/shenanigans but ill be jumping to Essential phone if i do not see updates coming by the time Essential is out for sale.
Anyone received updates for the unlocked USA model?
Could of swore you could flash one of the canadian xac firmware on the american phones, kinda defeats the purpose though but it is another option. What security patch is the unlocked s8 on?
April 1, 2017
Give Samsung time, they have hundreds of different Systems they have to build and make. Give them time.
XAC has been updated to AQEJ and that was a few days ago. I see TMO is the only US varient that has received a updated this month so far but all off out firmware is the same, only thing different is user data. So you could download the TMO software and flash the normal files minus user data and that will be your unlocked U firmware.
