Hey bro
I don't think there is a Linux version for Odin unfortunately I have looked myself and haven't found one. I came across an article here (4 paragraphs down it mentions it aint compatible with Linux but not sure on the academic legitimacy of the article.) I guess not at this stage. You could always use it in a virtual environment like VirtualBox using Windows.
Heimdall. I don't know if works with Y

Geez, I thought Android is based on linux kernel? xD
Tried to emulate Odin via Wine?
ya i'm try with wine not working its not detect post ........ may be some driver issue
I found an interesting thread Here
So it looks like the answer is no, doesn't work on Linux
But it looks like it does work with VirtualBox
Maybe you don't understand me.. I flash my I9100 in linux with Heimdall, but I don't know if Heimdall works with Galaxy Y.

Hey friend
I did understand you but the OP was asking specifically about Odin. I have thought about Heimdall as well but it does not work as far as I know for Galaxy Y. Check this out.
Odin only works in VM i think.
I see, because i want to switch to Linux completely. Just adjusting, but it seems important apps like this one still don't have a linux version.
I've switched to linux recently. I'll see if I can run Odin on my end with Mint 12.

My first post here turn out to be an answer... LOL
Anyway, yes, you can use Odin in VirtualBox to flash (not the OSE version). One thing that you must do before it works is to uncheck UHCI USB controller in virtual box as shown in the attached picture (that is true for many other USB devices as well, it should have been turned of by default i VB i think).
Yesterday, I resurrected a bricked Galaxy S 4G on 12.04x64 -> VirtualBox -> Windows XP -> Odin3-v1.85.
Good luck!

I use Ubuntu 12.04 x86_64 (though I know it works on 32 bit as well)
As for VB, see attachment. Note that you must NOT use the OSE version, that will not work. Also, as per previous screenshot i posted, make sure that you add your phone in VB USB settings, and disable "USB 2.0 (EHCI) Controller".
Oh, and one more thing; you must add your user to the group "vboxusers", with
Code:
sudo usermod -aG vboxusers <your username>
after that, logout and login again
1.Download android x86 iso from here
http://www.android-x86.org/
2.To install arm apps on android x86 use arm translator
for that you need to download 3 libraries from Buildroid and copy them into the system folder (so make sure you select to install the /system directory as read-write while installing Android-X86!):
Since the latest Android-X86 uses an ARM translator, not all ARM applications will work, for instance, Google Chrome won't work. Angry Birds (as well as Amazing Alex) on the other hand, worked in my test using a custom Android-X86 build in VirtualBox, though it was kind of slow (probably because of VirtualBox):
I'm sure there are readers who are wondering if Netflix works with this new Android-X86 release, but unfortunately I can't answer to this question because Netflix doesn't work in my country so if you try Netflix with Android-X86 4.0.4 RC2, let us know if it works in the comments!
you can download arm translater from here

Okay .. wow.. there must be a back-door/virus in these builds!?!
How can such an UGLY website be the only place to get working 4.2 previews for x86?!
The AOSP 4.2.1 2013-01-24 was a bit portly (182mb) but it ran like a top on my virtual PC and I'm off to try it on the laptop/carpc.
Up until now I'd been running 2.3.7 as it's the only build that would work with everything, but it's getting old fast!

Lappy did NOT boot from it. Much sadness followed and I'm still on the hunt for any 4.x releases that will run on my older `Centrino` class laptop. I'm not expecting full support, I'd be fine with USB blue-tooth, even USB WiFi, all I want for it to do is boot with the CPU/audio/graphics chipset combo I have in the laptop.
It'd be so nice to have it booting droid native vs. only being able to run it in VirtalBox.

Hi guys,
I've been trying to get Sailfish running on my LG Optimus L9 (OMAP 4430 - same as Galaxy S2 or Pandaboard).
1. First step of course was to build CM (in this case CM 10.2). So I built it.
2. Second step - get libhybris running on it (it's a layer allowing bionic Android drivers to work on 'normal' C based X11 or Wayland) - did it (at least applied patches and still successfully built CM)
3. Third step - Build Mer using Mer Platform SDK - did it, but can't get it to work.
I have Android kernel which should be capable of running Wayland, have a Mer build (WIP, untested), so I think it's very close to running Sailfish (just have to zypper install ARM packages on this Mer).
The thing is I got stuck - please help. I have my CM+libhybris working (can't test libhybris but it's not crashing).
I have Mer system in a folder and in a tar.g2 file. Can't flash it though because fastboot says it's too big and recovery fails to flash while flashing it through Android kitchen -> update.zip.
If anyone has any idea - please share.

That's what Mer Platform SDK outputs. It takes a kickstater file for the build and produces a tar.g2.

it depends what output option did you specified, usualy i use loop image.
may be you images is bigger then partition which you try to flash.
also you can ask polish guy stskeeps on libhybris irc channel.

No, partition size is ok, flashed it today with recovery (edited flash script). Boots past LG logo, throws a few errors and freezes. I'm not at home right now, but I think it's symlinks' fault, it can't find some script, will check it later.

if you didn`t do this then you phone still use initrd from android, you should at least change kernel command line because sailfish do not use initrd.

Yeah, I believe it's my current problem. Fastboot is not really a perfect Linux-booting tool. I got my bootloader unlocked and it only allows fastboot. Every way to boot Mer I found so far uses U-boot or a similar bootloader. Usual Android bootloader may not be able to manage it. Maybe that's the reason Ubuntu was abandoned when flipped images came out... I will look into that further, thank you for your replies.

So I checked the file - the architecture was ok (ARM7HL) so I only edited repo links in .yml file - links were dead.
The problem is - in the tutorials I found people dd-ed the output tar.bz2 to an SD card and boot their devices from it. I don't know if that's possible for a stock Android bootloader and I don't know how to bypass that.
Regarding boot.img mentioned earlier - I'm using the one built from libhybris-slightly-modified CM sources.
I don't really know where to go from here, I would love to rum Mer/Harmattan/Sailfish on my phone, but it seems I have to wait until they release their Nexus 4 work and then try porting it. So fingers crossed.
The error I'm getting is "Cannot execve system/bin/sh". And that's not a typo on my part - it print "execve". Checked it more than once - this file is a symlink to file "bash" in the same folder, my updater-script sets this symlink and executable permissions for the file but it doesn't help.

i`m think you should create it manualy using mkbootimg.
boot.img is kernel + initrd + command line combined into file.
initrd contains root filesystem and android do not do switch root as desktop linux do.
system.img is mounted under /system dir, if you flashed sailfish os root image on partiotion where was system.img then it will not work.
because boot.img started first and it expect usual android system.img on that partition.

Flash Drive not appearing in MultiROM
Having some problems here...
I successfully installed Lollipop on my external flash drive, messed around with it for a bit then I deleted it. The problem is, now when trying to do install PA 4.6 (not sure of the version), the usb drive isn't even appearing in MultiROM as an option. At the same time though, it's available when I load my current ROM (KK 4.4.4). Any ideas as to what my be going wrong? (Tried multiple drives, refreshing).
Edit: Think I've figured it out. Reformatted it to exFat and it's working now (was pretty sure I'd used NTFS before, but guess I was mistaken).

Update within Multi-Rom
Hi guys, i hope this question hasn't been asked too many times but there are over 100 pages, I looked through a bunch but didn't see it asked.
I have the Google Nexus 5 and it came with 4.4.4. I rooted and all the other good stuff, downloaded multi-rom and tried out some roms, everything works great I found a 5.0 lollipop stock rom that I'm happy with and would like to continue using for now via multi-rom.
I recently just had a pop up on my phone saying System update available to 5.0.1, my question is can i download and install this update even though I'm running multi-rom? Is there anything I need to know before doing it?
I appreciate any help.
Thanks!
USB-OTG is un-seletable in twrp-multirom.
Hello,
I am having problems mounting USB-OTG drives using multirom v30. When I go into the mount option in TWRP USB-OTG is un-selectable and refuses to mount my usb drive. I have tried multiple usb drives to no avail, it simply will not let me select USB-OTG in the mount options. Any help is appreciated.
I take it no one views this thread! It sucks, I have less than 10 posts and can only post here. I am still having this issue if anyone is interested in helping. I would like to install all of my secondary rom's onto an external usb drive. This is supposed to be possible in multirom but I cannot get this to work...

Ubuntu as main ROM
I've noticed there's special kernels for different versions of Android, but can I use Ubuntu Desktop as my main ROM?
I already have Ubuntu Desktop 13.04 installed on my Nexus 7 (2012) and I would rather not lose all my data and changes I had to make for it to work properly, however, I would also like to be able to use Android.

3. Ubuntu Desktop
Ubuntu desktop for*Nexus 7*has been discontinued and is no longer updated. 13.04 is the last release.
Download Ubuntu 13.04 image from*here. Put the image in the memory of N7 or to USB flash drive and go to recovery. Select Advanced -> MultiROM -> Add ROM and choose "Ubuntu" as ROM type. Then select the Ubuntu's image and confirm. Clean installation of Ubuntu is 1.5gb big, and takes a while (10 minutes?) to install.
The first boot takes a bit longer, and 13.04 stays a while (30-60s) in console ("Enter login:") before the GUI shows up, so just wait a while.
Ubuntu ROM must not have spaces in name!*

That wasn't helpful at all, you just quoted how to install Ubuntu Desktop as a SECONDARY ROM.
I suppose it doesn't matter, because I formatted my device to have CyanogenMod 11 as the PRIMARY ROM.
But what I wanted was to have Ubuntu Desktop as the PRIMARY ROM, aka Internal.

So you are on the wrong thread. Because it is not related with MultiROM.

I am not on the wrong thread, I asked a question clearly pertaining to MultiROM, note the use of the terms PRIMARY and SECONDARY ROM.
You clearly have no idea how to answer my question so please stop attempting to.
Oh yes, I was not even awake.

"main ROM" Does it mean Primary ROM ?
If you have already install Ubuntu, What's the problem to set it as default ROM ?

In MultiROM, There are only two types of ROM : Primary & Secondary.
As your question is not enough explicit, I try to understand.
Do you want to use Ubuntu Desktop as primary ROM and have some Android ROMs as secondary ?

I feel your pain, nobody here is helpful at all.
I'm going to have 10 posts by the time I'm done here though.
You can install Ubuntu Desktop without MultiROM.
That is the only way.
