I am having a problem on my phone where I am frequently losing LTE - my phone goes to 4G and I have trouble with data.
If I turn Mobile Data off and back on it connects to LTE again.
This seems like it started happening after I updated to the GoldenEye ROM - before that I feel like my LTE coverage was a lot better and more consistent.
Can anyone advise me on how to diagnose and hopefully fix this issue?

I have both mobile signal widget and netswidget installed on my home screen, and either something new is started or I missed it before.
Is the G2 ACTIVELY managing the difference between UMTS and HSDPA?
With these two widgets, I see the phone in 3G (UMTS) and when data exchanges (email delivery for example) it goes to H (HSDPA) and then exchanges the data and then goes back to 3G. I have seen this happen a lot of times, so it is not coincidence or signal issue.
If the phone is doing this, could this be a contributing factor to the problem with signal? I have seen a lot of people post that they have a reboot or signal lost right after doing some data activity. Could it be the switch from H to 3G and back that is causing a problem, maybe if the HSDPA is not that strong?
Just throwing out ideas trying to troubleshoot these issues.
My N900 did the same thing. If it sat there idle it would stay on 3g but if there was data being sent it would bump up to 3.5
anyone experiencing data drops particularly when the phone is in weak 4G coverage? It acts like it cant switch between 4G and 3G. sometimes it might take 5 min or more before it will reconnect to data. the phone works fine when it is in a strong signal area. So far I have just experienced this behavior in low signal coverage.
Yesss! Experienced that yesterday. But came back on in 5 min. Usually fixed when u go to settings and switch from the lte to GSM and back to lte but haven't had trouble with it today

Yours is the first case I've seen where data drops altogether, most have just been going back to 3G too often.

I am having the no data issue as well! I leave my house (on wifi and supposedly 3G or 4G) and I want to start listening to music immediately in my car but I have no data connection once wifi is off. It can take over a minute or more to get a data connection! I was wondering if this had to do with LTE protocol negotiation, as this is my first 4G phone. However it seems way too slow and its very aggravating. When it does get data back, it is usually 4G not 3G. Toggling data mode on and off doesn't fix it. I have not yet tried toggling between CDMA and GSM.

does it only happen when you're leaving wifi and going to cell data?
My experience with data connection was spotty for the first couple days. Going from WiFi into 4G then 3G on the way to work required a reboot to pick up the 3G after I arrived.
I think I may have found my issue.
Settings -> More... -> Mobile Networks -> Network Mode
Was originally set to "Global". I've found that "LTE/CDMA" works better for me.
hope this helps some.
Sprint LS980
Looks like most of my issues have been solved so far with this phone except for the fact that sometimes when a call comes in (or sometimes even out) the hand off between the 4G network to the 3G network is either very slow or doesn't take place; as in I get missed calls with a full signal or the phone gives up and makes me roam even though I have a full Sprint signal.
Anyone else have this issue or could offer any advice on a fix for this?
Are you aware of this?

Unfortunately I have read that article before. It does look like all of the towers in my area were upgraded last month and the service bulletin confirms this. Wasn't sure if anyone else was experiencing a hand-off issue; doesn't seem to be there when I set the phone to 3g only...
I just wanted to share my experience with some issues I had with my cell connectivity randomly dropping during the day and then randomly coming back. AT&T was no help what so ever and their only solution was to wipe my device (I'm rooted).
The Cause: Crappy LTE coverage in my area
I live between two towers that offer LTE coverage in my area, but not close enough to one or the other for them to connect. I solved the random drops by disabling LTE in the networks menu and then also going to *#*#INFO#*#* and using GSM only in that menu. I miss no more calls and everything works now. Apparently the phone was trying to get on LTE, succeeded in a handshake, and then didn't have enough signal to continue. It would then drop and try to reconnect several times before attempting to jump back on the GSM tower I can throw a rock and hit.
I can only hope AT&T gets their crap together and I hope this helps anyone with similar issues
Hello All,
I use VZW variant VS980.
I came from a Rezound and never had issues dropping to 3g at home or work (I always had good 4G coverage). I have been trying different modem/radio versions (10b, 11a, 12a, 12b) but it just seems that the G2 does not have a great antenna. Or is there something I can do to improve the signal strength and stop it from dropping to 3G? Also, sometimes it appears the only way to get it out of 3G is to reboot or go into airplane mode and then turn it off.
Any suggestions would be appreciated!
