Nexus 6P DPI and Tablet UI - Nexus 6P Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Now I know this is a highly requested feature *sarcasm*, but I miss having Xposed and App Settings. How on Marshmallow can we say have tablet ui for our devices. At the very least can someone direct me of where to go to change the dpi. Thanks in advance.

The basic way is (= means was in the past on other devices!) to change the DPI in the build.prop with root. You can either try with terminal emulators or root explorer, but there are also some apps on the play store for that purpose
Edit: search the play store for "display density"

Go to system/build.prop and change LCD density from 560 to a lower value.

FYI anything under 484 will trigger a tablet UI interface for Swiftkey and Google Play Music, so I'm assuming it will for other apps as well.

Textdroider DPI still works even though the app was last updated in 2012! Adjusted my DPI with no issues

Fyi; I am at 420 dpi and still no tablet ui

How did you change it? A direct build.prop modification or using wm density or an app?
Some apps (mainly Google Search/Now Launcher) query build.prop for the density to use, ignoring anything you may have done to override it with wm density or apps. Haven't tried with Xposed yet.

There is a version of App Settings specifically for Marshmallow that actually allows you to set DPI for individual apps just like what it did for KitKat.
But no, Tablet UI or even Phablet UI is still no dice - modifying the layout and DPI of Android System and SystemUI gives distorted portrait nav bar and no keys on landscape nav bar.

Do you have a link for the MM version of App Settings? I only find the older one, which mostly works.

I don't know if the older version works or not, but this indeed has a newer version number (1.13) than the one I got for Lollipop (1.11).

Hey, do you still have a working link for this?

320 would enable system wide tablet mode. 440 works great for day to day.

F_cking Dev-Host auto deleted my file... Here you go in the attachment, should be a perma-link this time.

Per App dpi based on orientation?

I'm currently running carbon for mako and I'm using an exposed framework module to handle per App dpi.
I was wondering if there is any way an app can changed its dpi based on if it's in landscape or in portrait.
Sent from my Nexus 4 using Tapatalk 2
first, if you want anything dpi, use PA. xposed/pad is not 1/10 of what hybrid is and does.
PA can do what you want but it must be unlocked,
i would advise against this, you don't change an apps DPI while its running and get away with it.
most app will simply implode.

Thanks for the answer.
So changing dpi while app is running = bad idea.
I was using PA for quite some time and then I decided to switch over to carbon to try it out again.
Going to switch back to PA soon.
well its against googles compatibility guidelines. apps calculate bounds once and then rely on it. if you change an apps size or worse, change its resource-folder - they will go nuts. thats why i didn't go on with this, its not worth it.
There's App Override (from a XDA-Dev ?) which also can handle per App dpi.
Afaik App Override can be used to set an App to launch either in landscape mode or in portrait mode.
So if you are willing to launch it always in landscape mode you could set the dpi to a value of your desire.
I don't use it but maybe it is possible to set different settings for a single app. As in:
IF portrait mode THEN set dpi TO
ELSE set dpi TO

Changing dpi on GEL

Can i change dpi to Google experience launcher??The icons are huge...
If you don't mine losing the "Okay Google" feature, you can use the Launcher3.apk from CyanogenMod11 roms that allow 5x5 rows.
You could change the app's DPI using Xposed Framework's module App Settings once they become compatible with KitKat in the near future. Otherwise you have to edit the build.prop and change the whole system's dpi, set it to 300dpi, you'll get 6x5 rows. However it can cause authentication issues when launching PlayStore, to fix that just clear the app data of PlayStore and Play services.

[Q] Per-App DPI for Lockscreen

Root: Yes
Rom: Beansrom v6
Does anyone know which app is responsible for drawing the android lockscreen? I set my build.prop DPI down to 320, which is awesome for most of the device, but it makes the lockscreen unlock grid really tiny. I have access to the xposed per-app dpi settings on my phone, and have successfully fixed other problematic applications, but I can't seem to find the lockscreen anywhere. Any input would be appreciated.
Lockscreen is controlled by Android System. I set it to 320 just to test it and it messes up a lot of stuff.

Really, like what? I've been running like this for a month and the only thing I've noticed was the small unlock grid (and a few samsung apps with weird layouts that I have since fixed individually)
Also, if I adjust android system, it will adjust everything (font, notif. bar, etc...) Any idea on how to adjust only the lockscreen?
I set dpi to 320 and my keyboard blew up to the point I could only see four or five of the keys. TW Launcher on the other hand shrunk to the size of a 4" phone. I could've fixed most of the issues but I didn't feel like messing with it. Also, I don't know how to adjust only the lockscreen. I think that modifying it without some dev experience would be difficult.

[Q] Camera/Dialer/LockScreen DPI Fix

Long time lurker here, love XDA and just actually got up and running with my new Note 4. The same thought went through my head with the stock Note 3... "Why the hell do they make a phone so large and just blow the icons up, it does me no good, I'm not a blind man..." So, naturally, one of my first steps after getting root was changing the DPI.
Like with the Note 3, I quickly realized that the Samsung Applications don't play nice with the custom DPI.
I realize this may be a completely stupid question, but my Google-fu has failed me so far. I've tried using Xposed to change the DPI (just on the Camera so far) back to defaults, but nothing seems to change the camera. Is there an alternate method to tell these applications to use the default DPI, are there modded version of these apps released yet, or is there a guide I could use to assist with modding these apps to make them friendly to DPI changes?
did you enable (tick) the (app settings) at module page of xposed? I am using note 4 too, and set default dpi = 480, and notice camera app is not support custom dpi, so i use app setting to assign it back, wish this can help.
Oh samsung, you still haven't made the camera app multi dpi, that's poor

Hey thanks for this info, but I don't seem to be able to change dpi of dialer/phone with app settings (camera and lockscreen worked). Am I changing the wrong app? (changed com.sec.phone and com.android.phone back to default 640)
Anyone know how to change recent apps dpi back to normal?

Nevermind, I forgot it was to change contacts apk. Also, with the new DPI, minimizing apps by drawing in from the corner no longer works. It will show as if it is shrinking the app to pop-up window then it will vanish. However, the window is still active as I tried multiple apps and then it prevented me because it said there is already 5 popups active (which is the maximum). Thanks for any help in advance!

I am not a developer, but I like all the work developers done for Android phones. I also had the same problem. Camera problem has been solved using "App Setting" application thru Xposed framework. However, Dialer and Keyboard didn't work.
Then I finally download Google Keyboard , which is the best one to use instead of Samsung Stock Keyboard. So, I am looking for another alternative for Dialer. lets see, I will post here if find anything. Thanks!

Multi DPi

Hi, could someone to do Multi DPi ROM? Alternatively, only applications? Something like MultiX would tkari for Note 3? I don't like huge icons and font. and sorry for my english.
You can use xposed app settings apk to alter dpi on a per app basis. You can also edit your build prop to alter your dpi but make sure you have another launcher installed just in case as some app's are hard coded

Xposed is not a solution for Samsung Apps who are not built to display well at lower dpi. Because Samsung can't be bothered to use Google guidelines in their apps.
What the OP asked is what I kinda wish we had, an X-Note ROM or something equivalent, in which the Samsung apps are modified to run and display properly at lower dpi.

Does that work better than it had previously with some apps on the Note 3, such as the Email app having huge text?

Which apps did you set back to 640? I use 480 aswell, but only my carrier text on lock screen and key field for entereing key pass looks awful. I did not change anything back to 640 and everything seems to be ok with samsung apps. Until now I tested Galaxy Apps, S Health (with wanam fix), S Voice and E-Mail. No Problems.
@zerojay:
I have no big characters when I write or answer mail.
So default dpi is 640 and not 650?
