With the impending release of Marshmallow, I've been wondering what to do since I'm an rooted. Wanted to gather some opinions. Do you guys think it is worth flashing back to stock to take the upgrade when it drops? Or just wait until a stable 6.0 rom (Cm 13 or AICP) hits and flash up to Marshmallow that way?
Just curious to see what all you are planning on doing!
I got the notice, but I'm Rooted, with su and TWRP and xposed and viper4 Android.I'm going to wait on Development, cause back to Stock and relocking bootloader, seems a bit much.

Hi,
This is my first post with XDA, but I have been using XDA for reference and guides for years. I am a programmer, web developer, and BTC Miner.
I have speculated that, since only the CM11 source code has been released, that the Official CM 11 for the Note 3 will be released around Late February or even March.
I want to experience KitKat before then, so, even though I am a huge Custom Rom user, I have decided I will try the Stock release of 4.4.
I'm worried about KNOX interfering with my transition back to stock. I have had a few thoughts on this, but I still haven't figured what the outcome would be.
Samsung wants people to use stock, right?
Would Samsung have a "punishment" for having used a custom rom before?
Could there be extreme KNOX updates that prevent returning to Custom?
Could the possible trouble be too much for being impatient for 4.4?
I currently have a Moto X Pure with ResurictionRemix (7.1.2) on it, with the last version of stock being the last Marshmallow update. Would there be any benefit to update the phone to stock Nougat (updating the bootloader, modem, etc.) and install another custom rom onto the phone, or will that cause issues (unable to install a custom rom). Thank you for your time.

So not that it would cause issues if you upgraded to 7.0 then to a custom ROM... It literally isn't possible. Honestly if I were you I'd stick on custom ROMs. Going back to stock to upgrade to stock 7.0 will be a huge pain in the ass if you ever wish to go back to custom ROMs again. Honestly, not really a benefit to stock 7.0, and I wouldn't recommend especially if you wanted to change back again if you didn't enjoy stock 7.0.
So what I'm saying is you can't upgrade to stock 7.0, then to a custom ROM, as none are compatible with the new bootloader introduced with stock nougat. And to revert to stock 6.0 from stock 7.0 is kinda sketchy...just read around the help forum for this phone here to know what I mean
Sorry for the formatting, hope that makes sense
There's only 1 custom ROM (check the Lineage 14.1 thread) that works with the 7.0 firmwares that anybody has made public. I don't seem to have much free time to work on getting any of my builds to work on 7.0 firmware. So if you want to upgrade to 7.0 you get stock or Lineage 14.1. Not that there were a lot of options before.
I'm now using Android Oreo, but I'm considering installing unofficial Android system to my Nexus. I'd like to try Android Oreo or android Nougat. But the thing is I'm afraid that my phone may be laggy or buggy.
According to the post for Nougat port, the camera doesn't work well on the system.
So I'm wondering if I can downgrade to my Android Lollipop in case I can't stand the new system.
Thanks!
You can switch ROMs back and forth at any time, just make sure you make backups and always do a clean flash. Custom ROMs are always a subject to bugs so go for the most stable one you can find which would be Lineage OS.

There are many rock stable Nougat ROMs available for mako and you can easily find them on xda. Even some of the Oreo ROMs are stable enough to be daily drivers...
And yes, you can downgrade or upgrade the versions as you wish (that's the benefit of having a Nexus phone, isn't it?)

I have upgraded to OnePlus 6 for a while now and have finally retired my OPO. My OPO is one of the early builds as it still has cyanogen logo on back. I bought this in Jan/Feb 2015 and have been using it since then. I haven't had any issues with phone, haven't replaced anything (although I am planning to replace the battery before handing it over to my parents), the phone is unrooted and running the last OTA update that was provided.
Based on the info above, do u guys have any good ROMs to suggest for my parents. They aren't too tech savy so probably some ROM that provides OTA updates and doesn't crash would be the best. Also, higher the android version, the better it is(if working stable).
I am comfortable enough unlocking bootloader, installing custom recovery, rooting, etc but I just want to give something to my parent's thats stable, better than stock, and keeps the phone from getting outdated.
Thanks for your answers!

Slim 6
official LOS 15.1
-no drains
-OTA
-latest security patch
Hello,
I'm looking for a ROM that has OTA updates and is actually being developed. What I see is that half of ROMs are abandoned, and other half will be abandoned in the nearest future, which imo is a real issue with custom ROMs.
Do you know any ROM, that will live for at least 1 year, will received updates, and won't be necessary to wipe data for every update?
Shamefully I see that there's no official LineageOS ROM for this device, which would be really great
Noone can say how long a Rom will be developed for at least 1 year. I changed from unterwelts Aicp to DotOs which is uptodate with security patch.
There's no official custom rom for markw, so no otas on any rom.
You don't need to clean flash if you're updating the same rom.
Markw is already a 2 year+ old device, looking for custom rom with 1 year long support commitment is ambitious for us, as there's not so many devs out there for markw. What they're offering, we're grateful for that.
If you don't want the hassle of flashing roms manually, want a stable device, I guess official miui is the best choice for you.
