Hello,
I'm looking for a ROM that has OTA updates and is actually being developed. What I see is that half of ROMs are abandoned, and other half will be abandoned in the nearest future, which imo is a real issue with custom ROMs.
Do you know any ROM, that will live for at least 1 year, will received updates, and won't be necessary to wipe data for every update?
Shamefully I see that there's no official LineageOS ROM for this device, which would be really great
Noone can say how long a Rom will be developed for at least 1 year. I changed from unterwelts Aicp to DotOs which is uptodate with security patch.
There's no official custom rom for markw, so no otas on any rom.
You don't need to clean flash if you're updating the same rom.
Markw is already a 2 year+ old device, looking for custom rom with 1 year long support commitment is ambitious for us, as there's not so many devs out there for markw. What they're offering, we're grateful for that.
If you don't want the hassle of flashing roms manually, want a stable device, I guess official miui is the best choice for you.

This phone has been on the market for some time now and there are almost no custom Roms for this phone. There are certainly no Froyo roms. Is there a problem with development? Did samsung release all the drivers needed?
there are in fact many custom ROMs already.
but the guys making the custom ROMs are waiting for Froyo to be released, before they go crazy on it (same here)
Samsung is releasing Froyo sometimes in September, just in time for back to school
for the time being i'm mostly evaluating all the softwares i wat to include into my own custom ROM once froyo has been released, and also building a list of build in apps that i don't use and want to remove
you can install any of the many available custom ROMs already from the DEV section just search for [ROM]
Samsung have released the source code, but reportedly the drivers are encrypted. This means all custom roms for the near future will need to be based off the official (and leaked) Samsung releases with just optimisations (eg: MoDaCo R3) or theming (eg: SamSet 1.6), but no ports or AOSP until the drivers can be recovered.
However, work has started on Cyanogen 6.0 for Galaxy S. They are stil very much in the initial stages however.
Official Froyo is due sometime in August (Korean release), so it's easiest to just wait for that and then go from there. However, we may get some leaks early if the stream of beta firmwares (still 2.1) is anything to go by.
Actually i'm quite sure Paul said that next MoDaCo release won't be based on an official samsung firmware, so I think it's just a matter of time and many ROMs will appear.

After a recent disaster with my S5 I replaced it with a Note 3 n9005.
Am very happy with the phone but it has so much potential to be better. Are there any 7.1 roms that are actively being updated and is there any chance of official builds any time soon.
I would love to put 7.1 on this phone but don't want to get stuck with bugs I have to put up with for extended periods.
Thanks for any advice in advance.
Official 7 for Note 3 . No never according to Samsung .

There are always bound to be bugs when dealing with unofficial software like ports or ROMs, they're not perfect. As for an official Nougat release for a 4 year old phone that doesn't even have an official Marshmallow release? I highly doubt it. I would suggest just sticking with stock.
Thanks for the reply guys.
I know Samsung will never upgrade this phone to nougat or above but the custom rom community have done some amazing things bringing the latest versions of android to older phones when their manufacturers stop supporting them to make you buy their latest an greatest phone.
When I asked about official builds I was referring to Resurrection Remix or Lineage LOS 7.1 builds which get weekly updates. There will always be bugs I know but weekly builds help to fix them.

If I may suggest, I would try out a Note 7 port. I know it's not Nougat but in my opinion, Marshmallow with the Note 7 features is just as good and a lot of people have tested them out and are really stable. But as for more Nougat ROMs, RR and Lineage I think are the only options but I haven't tried them myself.
There is an official Note 5 Nougat rom out, so it should be possible to port that. We just have to wait for someone with the knowledge and interest to do it.
I'm running the Note 7 Phronesis Marshmellow rom, and I highly recommend it if you don't want to wait for a Nougat rom.

Thank you am currently trying the Phronesis Rom N7 v5.2 and am liking it very much very smooth and seems very stable.
And if i'm reading the forum correctly there should be a V6 version becoming available in the next couple of days.
thanks for the recommendation this rom will do very nicely until or if someone ports the N5 nougat rom which we can only hope for.
Hi guys,
I'm wondering why redmi note 7 doesn't have official stuffs. Most important is TWRP.
But it don't have pixel experience or Lineage too, the 2 most biggest rom.
I know unofficial build exist, but personally i don't really like to use them. We don't know what they did put into them, what they did.
Is there any technical explanation or just every dev bought a redmi note 7 pro? But i don't think so because the pro isn't launched worldwide.
I'm really missing an official twrp at least
smae with me bro...
there really won't be a difference between unofficial and official. the only "benefit" from official is having the download link available on the rom's official page; daily usage wise they should be identical. if anything a rebase after going official might make the rom buggier in the short term, but roms here are stable enough as they are. it's only your loss if you refuse to use working roms simply because they are unofficial, and sooner or later they will have the official status anyway.
your point about official twrp is valid though, having 3 twrps is really confusing.
Well, official TWRP isn't there but official OrangeFox recovery based on latest TWRP is there.
Also there isn't official Pixel Experience ROM but there is official AOSP Extended ROM, SybarianOS ROM, Evolution X ROM.
You just have to wait for those, which aren't has official support. As far as I know, after a week or two the official Pixel Experience ROM is coming.
Like I said up there, you have to wait. Don't be hurry-ish like that.
OrangeFox is already live, and stable, it´s way better than twrp, abour roms, just hang cus it might take some time before get lineageOs and other going official
Any links?
And if I flash it on to begin with will it then just receive normal updates when 1 is available?
Thanks
What do you mean by "regular Android Pie"?
You can flash any Android Pie based ROM but most, if not all, don't support updates through OTA, so you have to manually update your phone every time a new update is released.

So it would never just update/ update in settings?
And regular android pie without miui overhaul, so just the basic like on the pixels.

If you install an "Official" ROM, then you have OTA update if I'm not misstaken.
regular android pie sounds like pie built from android official sources, which wouldn't be very pleasant to use since it lacks a lot of features :silly:
but since u mentioned "like the pixels" (surprise, pixel system is also a skin), there is pixel experience for u to try, and an official one just got published here, so I'd recommend u try that. however, it still lacks a lot of other customisations that custom roms offer, while they still also offer a stock pie feel. so if you're not satisfied with pe, u can also try other custom roms.
official status is not required for ota updates; I've used several unofficial roms that had otas. ota is only available if the dev is nice enough to provision for it. official status does increase the likelihood of it happening though.
Anyone plz tell me
Thank you.
Official ROMs are usually better supported and have a quality certificate from the developers. There aren't many official ROMs for lavender now, but for example the unofficial OTA LineageOS is both full-featured and stable enough for daily use.

Why UNOFFICIAL roms are not getting OFFICIAL for lavender ?
Because the devs don't have time to support them. They would need to do it to remain official.
Official roms require commitment from the dev, like periodic updates and not filling the rom with features not present on other devices...
