Hey. I have an HTC Magic (32A) from Rogers. I followed the guide on the CM wiki for rooting my phone and installing CM 6.1.0. The installation and such went without a hitch; it's working fine, except my data connection no longer works. WiFi works perfectly fine, though. It's just a shame because I'm now paying for a data plan that I can't use.
I read around here that it's usually an issue with the APN info, but I triple-checked it and it seems all fine and dandy. The "Data connection" option is also checked, as it should be.
The only thing I can think of at this point is the ridiculous 911 debacle, but the Rogers waiver form for reactivating data says my IMEI is invalid -- this seems like a very common issue, but I'm a bit weary of calling tech support since I have a rooted phone.
If it's even possible at this point, I wouldn't mind even reverting back to my stock 2.1 state, except I didn't make any backups with nandroid first. Any help would be appreciated. Here's my version stuff:

Have you tried popping your sim card into another 3G capable phone, and see if it can manage any 3G traffic?
If so, then it is not a provider / data enable issue, but rather a phone issue.
If you installed CM, then your APN should have been set automatically (CM comes with a big list). If you messed with the APN and saved it, you might wanna check it a 4th time
Have you tried the 2g/3g toggle button in the power widget that comes with CM?
Have you tried the settings of the power widget that comes with CM, where you can configure the toggle options for 2g/3g?
Do you even have normal "g" (GPRS)?
Do you live in a concrete underground bunker? Have you got good enough signal for data traffic?
Data service enable from your network provider is usually to the SIM, and not to the phone (where you IMEI resides).
I think if they block the phone based on IMEI (or don't recognize your IMEI), then you will have no connectivity (both data and voice/txt).
Thanks for the reply!
I tried putting the SIM card into another phone just now (a Nexus One, unrooted, stock ROM), and it's the same thing: voice/text works but no data.
I've had no luck with the APN list from CM. I tried another list I found on the internet somewhere but that didn't work either. I've since reset it back to the CM default.
Tried the 2G/3G toggling, didn't work.
I've never even seen the data icon that shows 3G or regular G. Is there a better way to check if I have a GPRS connection?
I've tried it at multiple altitudes. Right now I'm sitting in an office and I've got all four bars on my signal.
My uncle happens to work for Rogers; I asked him about it and he said he'll send me a list of instructions on what to do, in case the problem is indeed on Rogers' end. If it works then I'll post it here for y'all.
Hi all,
Been having some problems recently on my wife's Nexus 3g (tilapia). She had it for about six weeks now, I rooted it and installed PA on it (same as my grouper).
Everything was working fine until recently, 3g stopped working for no reason that I have been able to figure out.
What I've tried and noticed so far:
Clean install (full wipe) of PA, and also tried different custom roms - 3g not working
Tried the simcard from my phone to rule out network errors (since I'm on a different network) - still not working
In notification window, 3g coverage bar shows blue when wifi is on, asa it's turned off, a little H appears next to 3g bar, which straight away goes grey and stays that way until wifi is turned back on (this is all in range of wifi network, 3g icon does the same thing if i move far enough to lose wifi access). Strangely enough the carrier (Telstra) shows on my lockscreen, but any attempts to use the connection, like playstore, browser, go sms, all return a no connection error. Also when wifi is off and 3g icon is greyed out, the device sometimes crashes (hardlock) when trying to unlock the lockscreen (maybe unrelated).
Flashed back to stock following these instructions: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=32075129&postcount=1 - problem still remains
APN settings have been tried on both auto and manual, no luck.
At this stage I'm starting to think this may be a hardware issue with the 3g modem and thinking of just returning the unit altogether.
Has anyone had anything similar happen?
EDIT I've returned it on warranty
At work on Friday I was trying to do anything but work. So, I took the sim out of my work iPhone and put it in my 6P. After booting I noticed it wouldnt connect to 4G/LTE, didn't think much of it. Turned off, the put correct sims back in phones. iPhone boots with LTE connection with work sim, 6P boots with 3G connection with personal sim. Hm.
I tried toggling Airplane mode, data on/off. Tried various 'LTE OnOff' apps. Dialed *#*#4636#*#*, reset APN to default, cleared cache in Storage menu. Wait until I get home, flash latest Android M image (except userdata). No changes after boot, still only connecting to 3G.
Now I've flashed Jan/Feb/March images, no luck on any. Tried Android N, still 3G only...
When I put my personal sim into my Moto X, I have LTE connection and speeds.
Looking for help???

I thought I remember my phone originally being in 'Global' mode
Anyways, my choices are
Global
LTE/CDMA
LTE/GSM/UMTS
I dont have an LTE Only option. I switched to LTE/CDMA, restart. No change. Same when choosing LTE/GSM/UMTS.
Toggle Airplane mode to kick it back to LTE. I've tried a few fixes including changing APN Type but that hasn't fixed it, still happens.
EDIT: Skimmed over the part where you said you tried it, sorry. Try changing the APN type to "default, admin, mms, supl, fota, hipri, dun" in that order.

I tried your APN settings and the settings from this site (https://apn.gishan.net/settings/1259_13_verizon_apn_settings_for_huawei_nexus_6p.php)...no luck
Using the same sim card (my personal one that previously worked in the 6P).....
The *#*#4636#*#* menu is showing Network Type: EvDo-rev.A on the 6P and LTE on Moto X
Speedtest on 6P shows - D:2.61 Mbps U: 1.13Mbps
Speed test on Moto x- D43.62Mbps U:20.37Mbps
Speed test on iPhone - D: 34.99 U:18.74
This tells me it's not a sim card issue but something changed on my 6P
Took it one step further, went all the way back to stock, wipe userdata, fastboot flashing lock. Reboot, still 3G.

I'm having the same problem with 6P on t-mobile since last week when I applied April update.
T-mobile say there are no issues with local cell towers, Google pointing finger at t-mobile
saying: " appears that the phone is receiving a signal that is switching the cellular data to Edge which is an older technology. It is possible that your device is receiving a signal from an older tower. Older towers do not work well with newer multi-band devices and this could be causing the issue".
I'm talking to t-mobile again to confirm they've not got any issues, but given the timing and given the fact that I see this on all the local towers I'm more suspicious about the phone/software, but we'll see.
I've tried factory reset, replacement sim reflashing a few different versions of stock rom.
I'm currently (slowly) working my through the logs in the bug report. It's slow going but interesting reading.
Do you remember what versions of the radio rom you've tried?

I have that network type selected. When i select a different band, should i expect something to happen? Do I need to restart?
Got a new sim card yesterday as well, no difference.
Looks like I may have fixed it!
Did not work:
-flashing images for MMB29P, MHC19I, MHC19Q, NPC91K (DP2 ANDROID N)
-New sim
-Messing with APNs, toggling airplane mode, selecting different bands in *#*#4636#*#* menu
I knew when I originally rec'd the phone, everything worked. So I figured, why not try the original original images?
Solution: Go back to stock! Flashed MDA89D and my LTE is back.
-As soon as it booted, I made test calls/texts. *#*#4636#*#* shows Network Type: LTE and Preferred Network Type: LTE/GSM/CDMA auto (PRL)
-APN page lists 6 APNs (it wasnt doing this when I only had 3G) and selected by default is VZWINTERNET
-Update to 6.0.1 immediately popped up as well. LTE still active after update! (This takes you to the December Security update. Then you go month-by-month to most recent)
My problem is obviously different as I'm on t-mobile but f.y.i.
I flashed October's image (MDB08K) which is an image that doesn't support the newer LTE bands (eg 12) and now I have LTE again.
[Q] Stuck on "EDGE". How can I change the Network under "SIM Status" ?
I'm running Dirty Unicorns 9.8 OFFICIAL (5.1.1) on my Nexus 4. The other day I noticed I had like one or two bars so went into Settings > About phone > Status > SIM Status and clicked "Network". Usually, there are a handful of providers to use there and sometimes changing to a different one improves my reception (This is a T-Mobile phone). I don't remember what I left it on.
Today the phone is stuck on "EDGE" under "Cellular Network Type". I tried to get back in the "Network" to check and see if I left it on something stupid, but I can't get back into the provider selection. No matter what I do, the device won't hook up to "LTE" (whatever HSPA/HSPA+ thing T-mo says is LTE). Everything worked fine last week. Haven't applied any patches or anything other than messing around with the Network settings. Any idea what I might try? Is there a magic dialpad entry to use to reset the Network?
Thanks

Same problem here with metro pcs who uses T-mobile
After a few days of this, and several chats and calls to T-Mobile, it seems T-Mobile is "working on towers" in my area and things will be like this for a few days. The situation is this according to the last phone call with T-mobile:
* HSPA+ is no longer available on the towers in my area
* LTE and GSM (Edge) are the only supported modes
* LTE is not supported on the Nexus 4. tuff-shizz. buy a new phone.
Ok well this sucks... so here's what I did in the past couple days.
* Installed Chroma ROM and the the LTEEnable zip file thing floating around all the forums here.
* Found out Chroma was a rebranded AOSP ripoff so uninstalled it.
* flashed Dirty Unicorns 6.0.1 to my Nexus 4, bluetooth seemed funky so flashed the .33 radio from "dmitry" ROM that I found on several threads. Also flashed LTEEnable zip, not sure I needed it. LTE now working.
* dialed *#*#4636#*#* and went into "Phone Info"
* Network Type: "LTE"
* Set Preferred Network Type: LTE/GSM (PRL) -- originally had this set to "LTE only" but no voice calls could go out, or come in.
You would think this is the end of story, but wait. Voice calling takes 20 seconds to connect (even voice mail). With "LTE only" settings all incoming calls go directly to voice mail. never even rings the phone. Are you shizzing me?? With "LTE/GSM (PRL)" the phone waits for 20 seconds to drop from LTE back to "Edge" before the call finally hooks up.
Today, found out nexus 4 doesn't do VOLTE (Voice Over LTE). at least thats what google said. That would explain the Drop to "Edge" when dialing out.
Thing is, I tried this with a NEXUS 5 on my account, using two different sims , running stock Android Whatever on the N5 and it does the EXACT SAME THING. dropping calls to "Edge" before connecting. Takes 20 seconds to dial out. Incoming calls on LTE (which the n5 runs by default) all go to voicemail.
So it seems the workaround now is to dial the "magic number" above and set the "Preferred Network" to "GSM only" (Edge). That's the only way to get phone calls in or out of either device on T-Mobile's network today. Don't bother trying to Google anything though because it won't re-connect to LTE to do it. On either my hacked N4 or the stock ROM N5. You may as well be using a dial-up modem to get any data through either phone.
So, in the end, I don't have anything screwed up under "Network Settings". I'm stuck in "Edge" mode because Tmo is updating towers for LTE. It remains to be seen if I have to upgrade both and N4 and N5 to stay on T-Mobile however. The next few days will tell. I still think this is a bit of a ****-move on T-Mobile's part. Especially if I have to upgrade the N5. It's an expense I wasn't planning on. They could at least kick in some rebate to help out with the cost of new devices. No idea if it would save any money to switch carriers at this point.
This is a Galaxy S5 on the Sprint Network with Lineage OS version from a few weeks ago.
Last week this was working fine and then since Sunday cell service stopped working completely. The only change I did was updating TWRP, I did not update LineageOS, but I can't imagine TWRP would have affected it. I ended up reverting back to the stock ROM thinking I would have to call Srpint customer service, but then it started working under the stock ROM. Reflashed TWRP and Lineage OS and no service. Tried older and newest versions of TWRP and Lineage OS but nothing works except stock ROM (yuck).
The cellular connection says "no service" with completely empty bars. About every 5 seconds it will flash like it is connected, with most bars and the little R for roaming, then immediately goes back to "no service". I've tried changing preferred networks and looked at settings but can't find anything to fix it.
Any ideas? It's almost like the network is rejecting it but I don't see why it would matter if it is a custom ROM.
EDIT: oh yeah and on start up it says "Activating cellular service... This may take up to 5 minutes" or and then after a while says "Couldn't Activate" and that it may be fixed by restarting the phone (which of course doesn't fix it). Also I'm not entirely sure if it is related to roaming or not.
EDIT2: I'm wondering/betting this has something to do with the ICCID number. I noticed with Lineage OS installed it says "DUMMY_NV_ICC_SERIAL" but with the stock ROM it is a long string of digits. Now maybe I can change the ICCID on Lineage OS? Or maybe Lineage OS isn't reading my sim card properly (from googling what ICCID is)?
Did you ever figure this out? I have the same issue. Until the most recent build, I was forcing the phone down to 3G because of the SMS bug, but now that I have it set to use LTE, it won't connect (even to fallback, I don't care about getting LTE, I would just like not to miss calls/texts because I do have voice roaming).
Firstly, check the baseband, if it's the newest. Sometimes this causes the problem. If this doesn't help, then only the ROM is the actual problem.

I did not figure it out. I went back to my home area, re-installed LineageOS and then it activated on the Sprint network fine. But I suspect if I was in roaming again it would still not work if I did a factory reset or an update while in roaming. So I guess the only "solution" I've found is to be on a home network, let the phone activate, and then you can go back to roaming area. Not much of a solution if you are not near a home area.
I use https://forum.xda-developers.com/xposed/modules/app-roaming-control-v1-0-t3267154 to re-enable national roaming.
Also had some problems getting the modul work. I had to enable modul by toggle flight mod. Also i still have to enable roaming befor i switch from wifi to data connection then i can turn roaming (international) in system off and national roaming still works.
Maybe you have to do so :fingers-crossed:
