Just to explain my situation, I have just purchased a Note 4 which is rooted, has recovery and Blisspop ROM already on.
It has a N910FXXU1BOC4 baseband.
I take a lot of pics with my phone, so would like to install a TW based ROM.
What I've read so far states I need to flash a BO13 bootloader and Modem in Odin? Will this effect root or recovery?
Then when this is done I boot into recovery, wipe data, cache and dalvic, then flash the ROM? Is this correct?
Sorry for the noon question. Not done this in a long time.

N910FXXU1BOC4
Download Phone Info from playstore, open the app and go to firmware tab.
Bootloader will probably say N910FXXU1BOC5 which is Android 5.0.1
I think at a minimum you will need COI3 bootloader and modem.
Should not affect root, WILL not affect recovery.
Still you are on BlissPop you will probably be better off flashing the entire stock firmware which you can grab from sammobile. Just create an account to download.
After reboot you will be on a stock 5.1.1 ROM.
You will then need to flash custom recovery, flash the ROM. Try and find one with a custom kernel and root already included.
Then if the modem is not working, find one and flash in custom recovery also.

so i have an s4 that had 4.3...well it has an unlocked bootloader and recently i lost the stock recovery and no custom recovery was on there. so did the 4.4 ota update like a genius and now the phone is stuck in odin download mode. cant get it to boot cant get anywhere. im in the process of downloading the stock 4.4 firmware and i downloaded a custom rom and custom recovery. i didnt know where to go from here. would it be ok to flash the stock firmware with odin? or could i just try a custom recovery and custom rom in odin?? looking for some serious help. thanks in advanced
Do you have an i337, because if you do the bootloader is not unlocked. You're going to have to flash the stock firmware in Odin

You're screwing up because you haven't read about the things you are trying to do. If you want to learn and do things correctly, I suggest reading the pinned threads in the general and q&a sections paying close attention to the information that is specifically about your model and firmware version. The things you are trying to do and the questions you are asking have been answered many times over in those threads.

You need to flash full nb1 to regain stock.
Once you are in nb1 you can choose to stay stock or downgrade to mk2 to root and install safestrap.
From there you can install any Tw rom not AOSP YOU CAN NOT FLASH CUSTOM ROMS.

Hi guys,
Noob question: In custom rom installation steps, they say, must be on 4.4.2 with 4.4.2 bootloader.
What is this 4.4.2 bootloader? What do I have to do to get it? I don't want to screw something up.
I am on stock 4.4.2, with stock recovery, rooted with towelroot. I've installed xposed framework and several modules. I am thinking of moving to a custom kernel (or a custom rom if i have to, anything for more battery life). I have an SM-9005.
More noob questions, please excuse me:
To install cwm recovery (for flashing other kernels), I'll just flash a cwm zip from odin. This will work right? I saw this on Max Lee's site galaxynote3root.
When I reboot to stock recovery, there is an android lying down in the middle of the screen with a red exclamation mark on its tummy. Under it, is written 'No command.' . When i reboot, the text changes to 'Error!', and it boots normally. What in the world is this?
If I succeed in installing cwm recovery, will I be able to flash roms and kernels normally?
I'm new to this phone and new to xda, not so new to android.
Thanks.
If you flash custom recovery your Knox counter will be 0x1 = lost warranty for motherboard.
For flash recovery via Odin you need CWM.tar or CWM.tar.md5 and after this flash you can flash custom kernel.

Find any 4.4.4 ROM and flash it. You will need a 4.4 modem also I believe, so find a recovery flashable one. Don't use Odin for it, just to be safe and not upgrade your bootloader.

i was looking at the http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2447482 rom.
is there a difference between the ones that say safestrap/twrp or need one just for the i337 with CWM?

Hello
Given that no one has put this up anywhere legible for the whole community to have access to here it is.
If you are upgrading to CM12, you are required to upgrade your phones firmware. Most new ROMs will check for this firmware upgrade.
This can be found here
If you are downgrading to CM11 or CM11S basad ROMs they REQUIRE a downgrade or you will experience all sorts of issues.
This can be found here
Make sure you use your favorite custom recovery to flash these
Cheers

How to install?
Could you please tell how to proceed? Do I flash the firmware over the installed ROM and then do all the wipes and last flash the new ROM?

The simplest thing to do is to just download the latest CM12 nightly, flash it, wipe the phone(not internal storage)... And then install the LP ROM of your choice
Sorry, I forgot to say that I want to downgrade to CM11S or CM11.

That isn't the simplest solution, the simplest solution is to just flash the firmware zips that are available. Flashing the whole CM12 ROM is kinda like buying a new car because you ran out of fuel, instead of just buying the fuel.

If you want to downgrade to CM11 or CM11s I'm rather sure you don't need any, because they come with the firmware. If you want to install a custom ROM than you probably need to flash the firmware extra before you flash the ROM.

The CM12 nightlies contain the firmware so there's no need to flash it if you're flashing CM12. If you're flashing another Lollipop ROM you do need to flash it though.

Boot into TWRP, full wipe (system, data, cache, dalvik cache), flash firmware and modem, reboot back to recovery, flash CM11, reboot into ROM. You don't need to unlock your bootloader, that remains unlocked unless you specifically lock it again via fastboot. Each time you flash a new ROM you need to flash SuperSU again to get root, unless the ROM is pre-rooted.

Hi Timmaaa,
Thnks for your help. Just one last question, do I need to install TWRP again after flashing CM11s.
ThnX
I seem to be unable to successfully flash ROMs on my phone...
I am not sure what's going on.
Yes, I am rooted. Yes, I am flashing ROMs made for my phone, and flashing the appropriate firmware to match the ROM. Yes, I perform a clean flash by wiping everything first.
I have tried wiping cache/dalvik after flashing, still no luck. I have tried not flashing gapps, still nothing...
No matter what I do, it never boots. I sit at the Verizon screen for hours on end.
Any ideas?

Never heard of this. You might have flashed the wrong thing. We don't flash gapps with our Roms. Start over by using Odin to flash a full stock tar of NGC and root again.
I'll give it a try later. Thanks.

If you're on NK2 then most of the Roms I read you flashed won't work on that build. After you flash a ROM built for OC4, like FreedomROM for example, you need to Odin over the OC4 firmware (which includes modem and kernel) to the device otherwise Roms won't start. Same thing goes for everyone other ROM with the firmware except it has to be for the respective build.

Yeah, I've got that all figured out now. Never really had to do that with any other phones I've had, it was always just flash and go, never really messing with different firmware and whatnot. I have since tested 4 different ROMs and they have all flashed with success..
Thanks
