Stock SM-G900P black screen, functional status bar and car mode only. - Galaxy S 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

EDIT: Resolved by using android device manager to push a factory reset.
Today my phone boots fine and applications like my VPN begin running normally. However, the entire screen is black (besides my status bar) and there is no haptic feedback or lock screen accessibility. I changed my lockscreen and encryption password last night and never properly rebooted; the phone powered off due to lack of battery... I suspect this may have triggered the problem.
- I can pull down the status bar and change settings, activate car mode (which works,) etc. I cannot enter the full settings menu or any applications though. Nor am I prompted to enter my lock screen password after the initial decrypt during boot.
- Removing SD card does not help.
- Booting into safe mode does not help.
- Opening S finder via pulldown menu briefly flashes my home screen or whatever application is open.
Does anyone have any ideas about how to fix this?

Crashing home screen after installing AlienAqua 1.0 on Cyanogenmod 4.2.8

For those few unlucky people that are having problems with the AlienAqua 1.0 theme on Cyanogenmod 4.2.8, there is a solution without having to manually update.
First off, the problem:
After phone reboots, the home screen (.ahome) keeps crashing and you need to Force Close it via the popup that appears. It crashes both in landscape and portrait mode, nothing seems to function at all. It even happens in Safe Mode.
The solution that I found is as follows:
Power off the phone
Plug in USB to phone and computer
Power on the phone (not in safe mode...power up normally)
Press Menu to unlock the display
Press the Force Close button when the home screen crashes
Slide the display out so it goes to Landscape mode
Press Force Close once again if promoted
This should give you a functioning home screen with the AlienAqua 1.0 theme. Now open up CMUpdater, and download/reinstall the CyanogenMod-4.2.8. Let it install, and when it reboots, you will be back to normal. There is no need to have to go through the steps manually to install it, the automated method with CMUpdater works like a charm.

Phone on but not responding [RESOLVED]

Hi. First boot worked (stock unbranded phone from best buy/carphone warehouse). I put in another different to the vodafone one I put in initially and now the phone won't complete the boot cycle.
It boots, and after the splash screens and the toolbar states media scan, and then media scan complete it goes to a star-burst screen background with clock and so on - but no options and no ability to do anything. There's a ! icon in a triangle in top left corner, and network icon on right - but again as I said no other options icons etc. power button allows me to do usual airplane and data disable modes, or power off, but that's it.
The manual doesn't say what's what.
Any ideas? Help appreciated.
Edit : Splash screen is just over top of launcher. pinching / swiping it out of the way fixed it. Leaving post here incase any other new samsung users find same issue on second boot. Feel a bit silly

[Q] OP2 screen turns off

My OP2 started turning the screen off randomly. I tried rebooting, safe mode etc without any help. Finally I returned the factory settings. The problem persists, but it is now more systematic:
- when turned off, the battery charge animation shows on the screen
- after booting, the Oneplus logo and start-up animation show on the screen
- after that the welcome screen shows (as usual after returning factory settings) and I can select the language and press next >
- on the following page I can select the keyboard, but when I press next >, the screen turns off (but the phone stays on)
So, it seems that the screen and touch panel are functioning, because the first start-up pages are shown as usual. The third start-up page always turns the screen off, but before it does I can see that there would be wifi settings. Could it be that activating wifi (or some other?) resources have some impact on the issue? In any case this seems to be a HW-related.
Any ideas?

Some parts of the system lost their functions

Hello,
There is this weird problem that came out of nowhere. I usually sleep listening to music and sometimes I weak up with the phone battery completely drained so I have to charge it. Today after charging the phone some parts of the system lost their functions. These are the problems I discovered so far;
-The home(LeEco) and the multitask buttons are not doing their main functions even though the phone registers the touch inputs from the buttons and they light up. The home button can even lock the phone on long press but won't take me to the home screen.
-I have the swipe shortcuts button enabled but it won't take me to home screen or multitask screen. The "go back" option, however, is still working along with the back button. I can go to the home screen by swiping or exiting apps with "go back" button.
-I can't download apps from google play store even on wifi with auto-update enabled. it's stuck on download pending.
-I can't open the notifications management from notifications.
-Connecting the phone to my PC does not show connection options.
-Screenshot doesn't appear in the notifications. The notification area remains empty.
So far these are the ones I discovered. Do you have any idea what causes that and how to fix it? I didn't do a factory reset yet as I can't transfer the data to my PC. Eui 5.9.026S I haven't had any of these problems up until this morning.
Thanks in advance.
Backed up data using an app and factory reset solved the problem.
The actual problem seemed to be:
1-The multitask screen virtually opens but it appears behind the background aka it doesn't actually appear. I think because whatever app that is responsible for it does not have the draw over other apps permission(?).
2-The notifications are there but does not appear in the notifications bar menu. I made sure by using the a notification history app. So it might be notification access permission problem(?).

HELP! Can't get past lock screen (Pie Stable)

I was on official Pie beta (which worked excellent for me) with locked bootloader and today morning I got OTA for Pie stable. I thought what could possibly go wrong and updated it.
After updating successfully, On lock screen, I swiped up to enter my password, and it just showed me black screen. I tried various ways to go past that black screen. Nothing seemed to work. I tried reflashing Pie BETA zip from SD card in recovery, but that also failed as it showed error that it cannot flash old version when on new version. I don't want to factory reset as all my important app data will be gone. I can't even set the USB connectivity behaviour to MTP as selecting that option also shows me black screen. I am able to use camera and google assistant directly via lock screen but when trying to do anything else it shows me that black screen. I tried clearing cache from recovery, but that also didn't get me past that black screen. I can receive calls but can't do anything else. Even Whatsapp Web is working but I cannot open Whatsapp from my phone. I can't afford to factory reset as all my assignments are there in an app.
My last bet is to wait for someone or Asus to post Pie Stable zip and then reflash that zip from stock recovery via SD card.
If someone have any solution or has suffered from similar problem, please help
Hi,
I was also facing the same issue after updating to android Pie.
Here is a way around, using which I was able to access the phone.
Press power button.
You will be able to see the lock screen.
On the bottom bar, you will be able to see buttons,
on left, mic
in middle lock
and on right camera.
Swipe mic button, it will open the google assistance, however, it will ask for unlocking the screen.
Once you unlock this screen, you can go back to home screen.
If all go right, you will be back on your home screen and now your lock functionality will also be working as expected

Click to collapse
Thanks for answering
Entering password on that black screen also works.
Simply switch to a dark wallpaper instead of a light colour wallpaper.
