SMS fix for Verizon MVNO's - Nexus 6 General

With the help of logs and testing from @evilryry I have created a flashable zip that will fix slow SMS send times and higher than normal fail rates.
The zip has changes to CarrierConfig.apk for MVNO's that use Verizon's network. It will do absolutely nothing if your carrier does not fit that category. If you are actually on Verizon this zip will cause all sorts of trouble, do not flash it.
All testing has been done on the Nexus 6 (Shamu) on Android Marshmallow. It is possible that it will work on other nexus devices running MM, if it does not I would be willing to help with those as well.
So far this is confirmed working with the following carriers, I will update the list as people post it working.
Bluegrass Cellular
Thumb Cellular
Instructions:
Flash the VZW MVNO-Sms Fix-Shamu-MM.zip in recovery.
Report back here with your carrier name and results.
If it doesn't make any improvements, you just prefer your SMS send time to be a little longer, or you are on Verizon and flashed it anyhow...
Flash the VZW MVNO-Sms Fix-Undo-Shamu-MM.zip in recovery.
Downloads:
VZW MVNO-Sms Fix-Shamu-MM.zip
VZW MVNO-Sms Fix-Undo-Shamu-MM.zip

I was the Guinea pig for this. Happy to report this works after months of trying to fix this myself. Thanks to @daheazle for his hard work. Seems to be the problem was users on Verizon LRA carriers were being detected and loaded as actual Verizon users, which loaded features such as VoLTE and ims which clashed as they are not supported by our networks. This should fix sms lag for my carrier bluegrass cellular, thumb cellular, Pioneer cellular, Appalachian wireless etc just to name a few. Again big thanks to daheazle, make sure to thank him for his hard work and willingness to help!

Will this work for the Nexus 6p? I'm on Bluegrass Cellular and having the SMS delayed problems (I had them when I owned my Nexus 6 too). Just want to make sure before I flash the ZIP and take a chance of screwing up my Android install.

I'm not sure this particular flash method will work on 6p, make a backup before flashing it. What rom are you on/are you rooted and on a custom recovery

Currently my phone is as stock as it was when it came out of the box. No root or unlocked bootloader. I will try to unlock the bootloader in the coming days and give this fix a try. I'll report back here if it works.
Thanks for the help and a fix.

Yeah sorry for the requirements, only way to fix is to at least have root access and a custom recovery. Fix hasn't been tested on 6p or on a odexed stock rom so please make a backup and let us know what happens when u try it. You *may* need a deodexed custom rom. Not sure

Like evilryry said it is unknown whether it will work on a 6p. Make a backup of your rom and give it a flash. I suspect that it will work just fine though. If it doesn't I'd be happy to make one for the 6p, would just need you to send me a file or two.

Works on Nexus 6P!
Wanted to update this thread with my results. I unlocked the bootloader on my phone and flashed the ZIP with a custom recovery to my odexed, stock Android 6.0.1 ROM. I'm happy to report that it fixes my SMS delayed issues on Bluegrass Cellular! So for anyone wondering, this ZIP will fix delayed SMS on the Nexus 6P as well as the 6.
Also on a side note, I managed to get MMS working natively on the 6P with Bluegrass Cellular if anyone is interested in the fix, PM me.

Apn type add mms in there and add X-MDN at the end of the apn? Like http://mms.iot1.com/bluegrass/mms.php?X-MDN=123456789 (numbers being your 9 digit number? That's what I did to fix mine. Glad to hear it works on the 6p tho.

I edited the automatically detected Verizon/VZWINTERNET apn and included http://mms.iot1.com/bluegrass/mms.php in the MMSC field, then added mms into the APN type. Basically what you did, although I didn't have to enter in the X-MDN part. It worked without that.
On a side note, does Google know about this problem with the CarrierConfig.apk not detecting Verizon LRA carriers correctly? I'm just thinking that this could easily be patched from their end, but I doubt they even know this bug exists.

LTE/Reception/I'm an idiot issues

Hey guys having a bit of problems. I tried the LTE enabler since we have it where I live now. I got the zip from a popular thread in the general section, I asked in there but figured this warranted it's own thread. I had no bars, so I switched back to the latest radio and now I'm permanently stuck with zero cell reception of any kind. I've tried everything I can think of to fix it, I flashed a new ROM, restored a backup, I even flashed the stock image from Google, and did each piece individually in a terminal, so I know I flashed the radio and I'm STILL not getting any service.
Today, I went into Telus to get a new sim card because I thought that was the problem, but that didn't help at all.
Please don't tell me I'm screwed. And yes I did try the disable zip multiple times.
I've attached screenshots of my APN and mobile network settings. Trying to join the network results in an error message.
Anyone? Would greatly appreciate some help as I'm stumped and this is my only phone.
Restore the Nandroid you made before starting the process.

My apologies if I was unclear in my original post, I've tried that. Multiple times.
i followed this thread, and LTE worked like a champ. Though i did not stay on a stock ROM, u personally used DirtyUnicorn rom, but still followed steps to edit the build.prop manuall, and flashed the radio .33. You must use the correct apn's. For US T-Mobile, there is a old epc.tmobile.com apn that does not get LTE reception even if you have a lte equipped device, i had to use the fast.t-mobile.com apn, im sure Telus has an updated apn as well.
http://hippowise.com/how-to-permanently-enable-lte-on-android-4-2-2-nexus-4/
BTW, i dont think it matter what android version your in, cause when i did this, i was on a stock 4.2.2 and it worked, and then i flashed over to the DU ROM, and made the same edits since i used a new rom, and it worked perfectly again. Make sure to press *#*#4636#*#* once all is set said and done and put the netowrk setting to LTE/GSM auto-prl. Not sure why the option for LTE/WCDMA/GSM is not available, maybe someone could help with that one???????
One thing most people forget is that your provider plays a big part in your LTE service. If your sim/account is not provisioned for LTE you will never get it.... period. IN my case I came from an android phone that had no LTE support so it was never provisioned on my account(att). And since the nexus wasent shipped with LTE support or part of att' s LTE phone lineup...they refuse to add LTE support for my nexus. The only way for me to get LTE provisioned on my sim is for me to buy an att LTE compatable phone....then I could just use the sim in my nexus. Try flashing a stock Google image, see if it helps.

Help: T Mobile LTE not working on Android 5.1 Stock. Rooted.

Hello everyone. I just decided to update my device to 5.1. I did a clean install. I downloaded the proper radios and changed my APN to match what is suggested. I even changed my network type to LTE only. For some reason I can't get Internet to work though.
The Nexus 4 doesn't officially support LTE, so you'll need to flash an older modem (which would need root). Google disabled LTE awhile ago due to some regulations.

Freedompop N900P help

Hi all,
I have a freedompop ( they use sprints network) Note 3 N900P. Since the phone uses the sprints network indirectly, I am not sure which roms I will be able to install. Also the phone comes with lollipop; can i use the cf-root app? It says that it only supports the 4.4 bootloader, but the phone is running 5.0.(not sure if the bootloader was updated).
I would like your advice.
Thanks in advance
The Faqs show that phone as a Sprint model so i would expect the Sprint forum to have the answers .

No one replied; I can confirm that it already has twrp installed. The only thing I am curious about is if the roms in the general note 3 threads will be compatible.
USUALLY any non-exynos rom will work. I'm on ringplus. I just add my APN and done. Tried using Music of life LP rom, though that one is tricky to add apn because it's greyed out with the SPR csc. Use the XAS csc to get apn to work. I'm now using darkera13's s7 edge port which gave me no problems editing my APN. I'm assuming the s7 edge port in this forum might have a similar experience.
Oh and the sprint section was no help for me. I had to figure it out on my own.

No, I never could. For that you'll have to try sprint-based roms. Personally, I've gotten a signal just fine without updating prl.

Probably APN. Find out what your cell provider's APN settings are and make your own.

The phone get APN form provider, also i added it manually, but can't get 4G.
I think the problem, is that the phone is sprint and 4G work only in USA, right ?

oh right you're not in the US. If the bands aren't supported then you won't get the data. I don't believe a cdma phone was the right choice to use outside the US. Have better odds using a gsm phone.

How to root the T-Mobile Note 7 using the sprint leaked firmware.

Here's how you do it: Follow the EXACT SAME GUIDE FROM THE SPRINT NOTE 7 SECTION!
http://forum.xda-developers.com/sprint-note-7/how-to/root-super-leaky-bros-sprint-galaxy-t3447202
To get LTE to work again just add the T-Mobile APN (not that hard).
Also, you might want to freeze all the "Sprint OMADM" packages with titanium backup once you're rooted (will cause less of a hassle everytime you boot. I understand the devs in the "all things root" thread are holding this from you because they want to fix wifi calling but I think giving you root at all will tie you over for now. Also, I'm having problems downloading the gear VR apps with this so it's related to following this tutorial.
Thank you so much to the developers who made this possible for the Sprint note 7 and for everyone who brought this to the other variants (the T-Mobile note 7 was the easiest imo). It's a little funny to think that this whole time it was this easy and we could've been rooted all along. *If you really need the T-Mobile firmware rooted so you can enjoy wifi calling I've been working on something for a few hours but it's not ready.*

If you're wondering why the model number ends with a "P" is because it's sprint firmware, silly. Your model number will appear as that. In the video you can see I am on T-Mobile. Yes, I do have a T-Mobile note 7. You can find some of my posts of me waiting for my note 7 in Charlie's waiting room thread.

It's literally the same thing as rooting the sprint note 7 except you need to add your APN and disable a few packages. Not that hard.

Uh, this is from freeza? It's his thread that you are following but for the sprint note 7. It turns out it flashes perfectly on the T-Mobile note 7 with no problems and you can add the T-Mobile APN to fix LTE (that's what worked for me).
He leaked the firmware, we're toying with his work (well I barely did anything as you didn't need to do much different for the T-Mobile variant). But yes, I can see why you'd wait for the official ONLY if it is based off of T-Mobile firmware.

It's fine, it's root. Better than nothing. You can always use a Google voice number for the meantime if you really want to. We can always make a T-Mobile flashable ROM and flash it with FlashFire.

You need to make a folder called "sun7". Then extract all the contents of the zip you download into that folder. Wherever ADB is installed that folder needs to be in the same directory. Or if ADB is not in the same location provide the path.
Example: adb.exe push C:\pathtofilehere /directory/guide/tellsyouto/pushfoldercontentsto

Rooted HTC 10 and VoLTE?

Just bought, on Swappa, a VZW HTC 10 to replace my rooted, S-Off VZW HTC One M8.
I intend to use this on a VZW MVNO, Boom, which earlier this year became the first VZW MVNO to offer VoLTE.
I've never owned a non-rooted phone before. I bought them already rooted, I've never actually done the rooting process myself, but have experience in flashing ROMs, I know what TWRP and SU are and how they work, etc. Not a complete newbie.
The phone I've bought is already running Nougat. So I'm aware that to get it S-Off and rooted, I'm going to need to send it to J-Case, which will delay me activating/using phone.
My question ... and it's not the ultimate newbie question about "which is the best ROM," I've learned to do that homework on my own. I've also done some searches and not really found a clear answer.
Will I still get VoLTE if I S-Off and root this phone and use an alternate ROM? Because getting VoLTE is the only reason I stayed with a VZW phone and didn't go GSM instead of CDMA.
Thanks!
Deleted. Sorry.

So I guess I have to choose between VoLTE and the advantages of rooting at least for now. I'll see if VoLTE is that big a deal and go from there. Thanks for input.

Maybe not with a custom ROM, but running stock, rooted with Magisk VoLTE works fine here.
Stock rooted HTC 10 VZW variant running Viper10 Rom and VoLTE works for me. You might have to downgrade the firmware and sunshine soff and unlock bootloader then update the Rom and check the network settings via the phone info menu that's hidden. That's where you can set everything as far as Radio Band and cell signal

I may have to contact J-Case and see about S-off since this is already on Nougat. I'm not a tinkerer ... I'm still running flipping Lollipop LOL! on my M8 because everything still works fine and I don't like change for the sake of change ... but I like debloat, AdAway and AF Wall, plus rooting goes along with my control freak nature. As noted, I just don't want to screw up the VoLTE.
